bradmain.jpgOn the stage of The Bold and the Beautiful at CBS in Los Angeles, Brad Bell and his producers, colleagues, crew members and some of his stellar cast including: Lesley-Anne Down, Brandon Beemer, Susan Flannery, Jennifer Gareis and Jack Wagner – gathered to celebrate the series nomination for the 36th annual Daytime Emmys.

We caught up with Brad, who not only discussed the nominations, but previewed what’s to come on the show now that Don Diamont, Rick Hearst and Jackie M., are going to take front and center stage.

Here are some thoughts from executive producer, head writer, and Emmy-nominated Brad Bell!

What shows did you submit for competition that got you into the final three of the Outstanding
Daytime Drama Series category?

We submitted the shows where Storm took his life to save his sister. So, heavy drama, mostly hospital scenes with great family drama, and tragedy and triumph, and everything that goes into drama! We did submit those two back-to-back episodes, and did submit the same shows for writing and directing. Those were my special shows in the whole run of this series, I think.

Did you feel, with the Storm suicide/heart transplant story, that this was your big shot to nab the prize? Did you feel good about your submission?

Absolutely! I thought this year was better than what we had in previous years. I thought the story with Betty White and Stephanie going home to confront her mother was strong, but this one was top tier. So, we will keep our fingers crossed

Were you shocked there were only three nominees in the category?

Totally shocked! Maria Arena Bell (head writer and co-executive producer, “Y&R”) sent me a nice email already. It is a shock because “Y&R”, in the ratings, is by far and above the top show. It’s a brilliant show and deserves to be nominated. So, it’s hard to understand. But, it’s great to be nominated and it’s great that a show from each network is represented in the finals, and it’s great for all the networks.

How do you feel about the Emmy broadcast being on the CW and not on a major network that carries daytime soap opera?

I think it would be great if it was on one of the networks that airs these shows, but we are in a time of change. I hope this will deliver good ratings for the CW, and we will find a new home, and it will be fresh and interesting.

Do you think the networks are looking to see how it does this year?

I think so. It’s a time where programmers are making up their minds and forming their opinions of where things need to be heading, and what’s best for the networks.

Now that Guiding Light was cancelled did you ever think of trying to make “B&B” go to an hour?

I am very happy to have a half hour show, and it’s wonderful to be that.

Big news is that Rick Hearst who just left his role on General Hospital is coming back to “B&B” to reprise his role of Whip Jones. Will he have a romance? What can we expect?

Yes, Whip Jones is back. We will have some new romances on the show.
I think with Bill Spencer, played by Don Diamont, and Whip, played by Rick Hearst; we will also go back to the fashion house part of our storytelling. Jackie M. has emerged as the new Spectra. There was nothing like Sally Spectra, but now we have a ‘cougar’ running a fashion house in Jackie.

Is Jackie turning a bit more to the dark side?

Well, it’s going to continue to be sexy, and there are wonderful and unique relationships that come up. We are building around Jackie M., and now Spencer Publications is in the middle of the mix. So you have two fashion houses, Bill Spencer in the middle, and it’s wonderful and all new and exciting.

How did you nab Rick Hearst to return to “B&B”?

I had heard he was let go. There are only a few people in the history of our show that you can bring back. And, Rick is such a great actor, and there was a need for someone like him. So I jumped on it.

lesleyann.jpgWill Whip be entangled again with Brooke?

Brooke, The Jackie M group, and Stephanie….We are going back to Forrester being about heavy drama, and Jackie M being a contrast to that. There is a lot of drama, but also there will be lots of fun. We are bringing camp back, which was popular in the 80’s and the 90’s. It’s time to have fun again, and I think that’s the difference you will see in the show in the next six months to a year. We are going to have more comedy, silliness, and craziness… and it should be a fun to watch.

Lesley–Anne Down is really doing a great job. Jackie Marone is truly in charge here!

It works so well, because Jackie is going to lead this fashion house. She is like a Bond girl. We are writing her as the boss, and she is going to handle all these guys, and she is not about to fall in love overnight.

But many this week thought perhaps she was crossing the line in sexual harassment of Owen. What is your take on Jackie’s point of view?

It’s interesting. It’s about a woman in control. Owen is like this surfer dude who’s come up and into this fashion world, and obviously he is falling for this woman. He is intrigued by her. She is like no one he has ever met, and he is the one who is going to fall head over heels. While she will be like, “No, get a grip! Try to control yourself.” A lot of people would think Owen would be the one calling the shots, but she is the one in charge

bb_celebrates.jpgWhat about Madame X? Will Bridget ever have her own man?

Bridget’s going to have her own man, soon.

Would you ever consider bringing back Deacon, played by Sean Kanan, at this point in time to mix things up even more with Jackie and the gang?

Sean as Deacon is wonderful! Right now, we are on to Bill Spencer and the return of Whip, but don’t rule anything out. Sean is a great actor, a wild-card, and can cause trouble for the lives of the characters on our show.

My best Halloween costume was definitely Rubik’s Cube. I was about 11 years old and all of the older kids in the neighborhood were calling me, Rubie. I felt so cool. 8)

Y&R’s Sharon Case, Mark Grossman & Jordi Vilasuso Talk Love and Betrayal in the Rey/Sharon/Adam Triangle

This week on The Young and the Restless, Sharon (Sharon Case) and Adam’s (Mark Grossman) kiss took centerstage and went viral when a photo of the passionate moment was seen by Sharon’s husband, Rey (Jordi Vilasuso), and fiancée Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), and many more citizens of Genoa City!

That moment looks to be a game-changer.  Now what will Rey do? Will he continue to try to salvage his marriage to Sharon? Will wheelchair bound Chelsea, hatch a plan to payback Adam and Sharon? Will Adam and Sharon meet up for some dangerous liaisons? There’s so much to this story left to play out.

In a new interview on The Michael Fairman Channel, Sharon Case, Mark Grossman and Jordi Vilasuso chatted candidly about their on-screen love triangle and more including: what happened when Mark auditioned for the key role of Adam, the character of Sharon’s battle with breast cancer, and who Sharon feels is Sharon Newman’s true love, Nick (Joshua Morrow) or Adam? Plus, the trio share their reactions to the news that their castmate, Sasha Calle (Lola) was tapped as the first Latina ‘Supergirl’ in the upcoming DC Universe film, The Flash.

During the conversation, Vilasuso said Rey was not blindsided by Adam and Sharon’s ongoing attraction: “Rey’s known for a long time, c’mon!  I had somebody on Twitter post all the videos on how long I’ve known about Adam and Sharon. (Laughs)  I had still had a beard on the show back then!  What’s he going to do?  I think this Adam sickness, this addiction, this pathology that he has, I think Rey hopes he can just arrest him and he will just go away for ever.  That’s playing in the back of my mind, like, ‘there’s no way Adam can keep up this behavior for much longer’.  Rey is crazy about Sharon. T here’s also some ego involved here, too of, ‘I got to be the guy here.  I can’t lose to this guy’.  But man, does Rey have a threshold for dealing with this stuff.  Remember, his (ex) wife had sex with his brother, and then she did it again, and now they are having a child together… and Rey was still able to move on.”

Case clarified from her previous 25th anniversary interview with Fairman, just who is Sharon Newman’s ultimate love, Nick (Joshua Morrow) or Adam?  Case had stated Adam.  The actress explained:  “When you think about what the character’s have been through, the history of The Young and the Restless, how stories are usually told – and what I mean by all that is Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) have always been the “It” couple of the history of Y&R and they are very different.  They actually remind me more of Adam and Sharon then Nick and Sharon.  Nick turned out more to be the good son, while Adam was more in the image of his father, and it would be the obvious choice to guess that Nick and Sharon would be endgame.  I think soaps try to not go in the obvious way.  The two men that she has been married to, and were the biggest loves of her life, and both Victor’s kids, choosing between those that is why I said what I said, and why I think that’s true.  Sharon and Adam don’t have all of the pain, that Sharon and Nick have had from multiple cheatings and a loss of a child which is very hard for a couple to ever get past that.   I also think that Sharon and Nick are sort of together now anyways as co-parents and are such good friends.  They have a new relationship – they are not together in a romantic way – but their relationship is really great now and very full for what it is.”

Grossman shared that knowing Chelsea has a history of being con-artist, that she could potentially pull some stunts on Adam and Sharon to keep them apart:  “That’s always in the back of his mind.  You know, maybe she will start to con Adam and maybe he might pick up on it, maybe he doesn’t pick up on it, but obviously it’s a really sad situation that Adam is in.  There’s a lot going on in Adam’s life. It’s unfortunate that Connor (his son) is not there as he is off to boarding school, and then Adam wasn’t there because he went to Sharon’s wedding to peek his head in, and Chelsea had her stroke.  So there’s a lot of guilt there.  I think it’s really frustrating to him that he can’t have a conversation with this woman – who is his fiancée – and this is his fault and he caused all this.  But there’s always the underlying pull from Sharon, and after they kiss there are a lot of conflicted feelings there.”

Linda Dano Talks Taking On DAYS Vivian, Heartfelt Memories of Another World & Felicia Gallant, One Life to Live, Winning a Daytime Emmy & More

Currently, daytime fans are getting to see one of the most beloved actress in the history of the soap genre, Linda Dano, on NBC’s Days of our Lives in the role of the villainess Vivian Alamain.

Dano is taking on the part originally made soap-famous by Louise Sorel, and last played by Robin Strasser. Now it’s Dano’s turn to bring her own style to the role as viewers have witnessed that Vivian has kidnapped Eli (Lamon Archey) and Lani’s (Sal Stowers) twins, thanks to Viv’s sidekick, Ivan (Ivan G’Vera), and the story and all the drama continues this week.

Photo: JPI

In a very special conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel, Linda chats with Michael about the challenges she faced stepping into Vivian’s shoes, and working with the cast and crew at DAYS.

Linda also shares her sorrow over the heartbreaking cancellation, and then taping final episode of Another World, where she played her signature soap role of Felicia Gallant for 18 years.  During her run, Dano won the Outstanding Lead Actress Daytime Emmy in 1993 for Felicia’s battle with alcoholism, which as she reveals she is still stopped on the street about to this day.

Soap fans will recall that Dano is the only actress to crossover to all of the ABC daytime dramas when she returned to One Life to Live, (following her time on Another World), in the part of Gretel “Rae” Cummings, and we learned that Rae was the bio-mother of Skye Chandler, played by Robin Christopher.

Throughout her career, Dano also appeared on Guiding Light and As the World Turns, hosted the talk show, Attitudes and is known as one of the fashionable people in the business.  Linda formerly helped dress many of your favorite soap stars, wrote a book on having just the right look, and is always on the cutting edge of the fashion world.

As you will see, the conversation was poignant, humorous, and candid, but what else would you expect from the one and only Linda Dano?  You can watch the full chat below.

What have you thought of Linda’s portrayal of DAYS Vivian thus far? Was your favorite soap role of Linda’s … that of AW’s Felicia Gallant? What story that she shared in the conversation did you enjoy hearing about the most?  Let us know via the comment section.
