NBCUniversal has decided to given an early season 2 renewal to The Kelly Clarkson Show, which has been providing strong numbers in syndication, according to Deadline on Monday.

Clarkson, a Grammy Award-Winner and coach on NBC’s singing competition The Voice has a talker that now will take it through the 2020-21 season.

Kelly’s afternoon show ranks as the No.1 new syndicated program.  It made its debut back in September and had the strongest start to any new first-run syndicated series in seven years with an average of 1.9 million viewers per episode.

In addition, The Kelly Clarkson Show is performing in the fourth position among all syndicated daytime talk shows, and the show’s social platforms have gained more than 1.5 million subscribers since September.

In a statement, Tracie Wilson, EVP, Creative Affairs, NBCUniversal Television Distribution said on the pick-up: “The Kelly Clarkson Show is connecting with viewers in a unique way and we are so happy to build on that momentum, bringing Kelly’s brand of humor, heart, and, of course, the incredible ‘Kellyoke,’ to stations for a second season.  It is a privilege to be in business with Kelly and our production team, led by Alex Duda, who have a clear creative vision and a talent for storytelling and creating quality entertainment that invites you in for a good time and leaves you feeling happy.”

Of course, it would be renewed for a second season,,
good or bad, the talk shows cost TV next to nothing to support.
And daytime needs a lot of low-cost shows=talk/cook.
And in a way that’s a good thing because it lays wat to be able to suport$ the soaps!! that is a good thing..

“A clear vision and a talent for story telling” …too bad that’s not applied to the soaps on ANY network.

I can’t stand this show because Kelly just yells instead of using a speaking voice. Calm down!!!

Robert Newman Shares Why There Has Not Been a Return to Springfield & ‘Guiding Light’ On-Screen Reunion

Robert Newman, best known to daytime soap fans as Josh Lewis on Guiding Light, sat down earlier this week for a wide-ranging interview on his career with Lauren Van Hemert via her You Tube Channel.

The timing of the posting of the interview as in-line with the date GL was officially canceled back on April 1, 2009.  The series began its historic run on TV from radio back on June 30, 1952, and ultimately aired its final episode on September 18, 2009.

From 1980 to 2009, Robert was one of the mainstays and key leading men of Springfield, and of course, the Josh and Reva (Kim Zimmer) love story is one of the most popular ever in the annals of daytime drama.

Right off at the top of the interview; Hemert noted that what she was asked most by fans of Newman’s and GL’s, when and if there will ever be a Guiding Light on-screen reunion.

Newman responded to the question: “I get that a lot.  That question is unfortunately in the hands of Procter and Gamble more than anything else … and they made it very clear over the years that they’re just not going to release the characters and copyrights to the show.”

Robert also added, “In terms of what you are talking about where there might be some sort of production, where there’s an actual reunion, and we see where Josh and Reva are today and that kind of thing (on their probably 15th marriage) … unless Procter and Gamble is somehow willing to shake loose the rights to the show, I don’t see it happening.”

Watch the full interview with the talented Mr. Newman below.

Then let us know, since P&G has made it very clear for the last several years they are out of the soap business completely, do you think its time they just sell the rights so viewers can see some sort of reboot down the line, especially for a show as beloved as Guiding Light? Comment below.
