The Queen Latifah Show Is Canceled! Another Daytime Talker Bites The Dust!

Queen Latifah is the next name to join the ranks of having a canceled daytime talk show! The syndicated show from Sony Pictures Television will shut down production at year’s end. Originals though will continue to air on CBS stations through March, but not continue after that

“We want to thank Dana (Queen Latifah’s real name), the producers and the entire staff of The Queen Latifah Show for creating a program that we are all very proud of.  Thank you also to our terrific station partners and advertisers who supported the show,” said Sony Pictures Television in a statement,

Queen Latifah then took to her facebook page to share this message for herself ,and the cast and crew of her show.

Dear Dana,

Just a little note to say Thank You… Thank you for your strong work ethic and great effort in getting The Queen Latifah Show off the ground and running.

Your dedication and sacrifice was crucial to the entire team, and in the face of intense challenges, you displayed “True Grit”!

Your Family, Partners, Staff and Crew showed up with you every step of the way. Be very proud of that! Not everyone can say the same.

You can also say you have been a blessing to and been blessed by amazing guests and incredible audiences for this show. We truly changed people’s lives for the better.

So… STAY POSITIVE, STAY STRONG, and most importantly, STAY OPEN… There is so much more God has in store! Lovingly, You!

P.S. This letter is for me, my staff, my crew, and everyone who was by my side for this incredible journey. The most important thing in life is that you wake up every single day and take chances. No matter what the outcome…believe in yourself and continue to fly.

Now with the cancellation notice today, it looks like the previously announced Men of Y&R episode slated to run next week on November 26th, has been put on hold and will air at a later date, On-Air On-Soaps will keep you updated as to when it will run.

What do you think of the cancellation of The Queen Latifah Show?  Did you watch it?  Do you think it deserved to go? What can you say about how Katie Couric, and other well-known celebrity figures aren’t getting the audience numbers they need to survive?  Can the networks finally see that the daytime space  is way to crowded with so many talkers? I am not shocked..
Talk show have become very lackluster..
They struggle to entertain..
I wouldn’t waste an hour of my time with people talking loudly about nothing important..
Most talk shows are junk TV …

But you gladly waste an hour of your time watching and singing the praises of misogynistic and disgusring rapists, murderers and criminals on the show formerly known as General Hospital. LOL. You crack me up Su.

Yes, it’s entertaining which is what TV is for.

You do realize the irony of that statement being made on a soap board

American soaps are the epitome of junk food tv. You learn nothing feel nothing and half an hour later you forgot you even watched a soap in the first place. 🙂

Well I humbly disagree with both you and Suooo, because both of you are painting too broad of brush, painting all soaps and talk shows as being the same. Yes, Suoo some talk shows were dull, but over the years I learned, felt many emotions, and was entertained by a number of talk shows. Likewise the soaps Nicole, some stories are like junk food easily forgotten, but over the years I watched stories that moved me greatly. I can remember some stories from twenty years ago just like one remembers a great book of literature, so to say one can… Read more »

Speak for yourself. I don’t watch soaps to ‘learn’ anything, as I said, I watch to be entertained.

This news is no surprise to me. Her talk show was boring and uninteresting although she had A-list celebrities as guests. But her interviewing skills are a lack thereof was off putting.

I think just the opposite Lou! She did have A!-list guests, but I like her interviewing style. I like her enthusiasm for her guests. I don’t watch talk shows much anymore, not even Ellen much who I love.

It won’t change my life if it’s gone, but I could name several that should be gone before hers!

I want almost all daytme talk shows gone and more soaps, but that ship has sailed!

Exactly Laurie I am with you. I loved QL when she was on the other Network but I refused to watch it on ABC because of them Cancelling our Soaps I only watch GH on the Network now. And QL was an excellent interviewr she was fake or boring. Lou i would love to know what you think a Talk Show should be. And if she was that bad she would have had a Talk Show for he 2nd time. She got cancelled because of us devoted Soap Fans refused to watch it no matter how much we love her.… Read more »

Lou, I agree with you totally about her lack fo interviewing skills, which made for a somewhat boring show. Queen, herself, is a sweet and likable personality, but that’s not enough to carry a daytime talk show to success.

don’t get me wrong her show was not that bad, wait a minute I take that back it was kind of hella boring, but I’m not surprised at all one bit. First Katie Couric gosh I cannot stand her, then the revolution now her show? shit what talk show is next? Oh could the spew be next on the list?first they cancel good shows for stupid dumb boring ones, now they cancel a talk show.if this is the sign of karma, then I definitely want the stupid spew chew to be the next one on the list to be axed!!… Read more »

Right on, I sometimes have to endure a couple of minutes of The Chew when I switch from CBS (b&b) to ABC to watch GH and those 2 minutes are plenty, terrible presenters, dialogue, content, why on earth this gets the ratings and stays on the air is beyond me.

IT was a great show and I love her show because she was down to earth and not fake. And fun. I will not disrespect any good talk show especially when they are not be mean and treating people like dirt like the View. She treated all her guest with respect. But maybe that is what this world want with all the hateful nasty things on tv now all they can comprehend is violence, sex, etc. You want to know boring try watch Meredith V yarn. Sorry that her show was cancelled but I warm them on their FB page.… Read more »

I love QL when I found out that they were going to go to ABC I posted on her page don’t do it. You are messing with the Soap Fans and it will be your downfall. But like ABC/Disney they didn’t listen. Woo Hoo #SOAPS4EVER

I believe CBS owned the Latifah show and in many markets it was shown in the morning. The show was syndicated, local markets buy it or pass on it. I don’t see any relationship to the canceled ABC soaps. I didn’t watch it myself, I have no idea if. It was any good or not.

LADY G

Ok if CBS own it why wasn’t it still on CBS here. I just know that every show that has been in that spot has failed on ABC. Except our Soaps

And really and True ABC said themselves that they cancelled the Soaps not because of the ratings but because they want to make cheaper programming and how that work our for them noooot. SMH

I’m curious. Wonder what the ratings and longevity are for afternoon shows, other than soaps, on all networks? And then how they compare with soaps? Is afternoon just a “black hole” for ratings networks want? Or is having stable audience numbers not enough for bottom lines that are always expected to grow? At least soaps were holding onto a loyal audience and filling air time that the new shows aren’t. If preferred demos and audiences for soaps weren’t growing at the pace networks wanted, perhaps they should accept some of the blame by looking at quality of writing and pace… Read more »

I only watched the show a handful of times and had no interest in watching again. the same goes for Meredith Viera…I watched it a few times and it was torture…I actually felt bad for her as it seemed so strained for her. I used to tape access Hollywood but they replaced it here in Chicago… I liked it. I would watch it as I prepared dinner to rid my head from a long days work and stress and just decompress. The Talk, The Chew , The View… enough. Just boring dribble.Tyra? saw her years ago and I am quite… Read more »

People that watch talk shows are killing the soaps.

Even if you watch a talk show on a different network than your soap(s), you are strengthening that talk show which will lead your soaps network to consider ending your soap for a talk show!

If you love your soaps more than talk shows, end the viewing of talk shows or lose the soaps!

It’s a war between soaps and talk shows…What side are you on?

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.

Chris Harrison In First Interview Since ‘Bachelor’ Controversy Says He Wants To Be Back as Host; But GMA’s Michael Strahan Says Apology was a “Surface Response”

Thursday’s Good Morning America featured the highly-publicized first interview with ‘Bachelor’ franchise host and executive producer, Chris Harrison, since he stepped away from the show following his controversial remarks on current Bachelor contestant Rachel Kirkconnell, amid the airing of a season that has seen the first-ever Black male lead of the reality series, Matt James.

Speaking with GMA co-host, Michael Strahan, Harrison spoke of remarks he made during his interview with ex-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay on Extra that sparked the firestorm.

Harrison admitted the words he spoke to Lindsey were “in a manner that perpetuates racism,” adding “I am an imperfect man I made a mistake and I own that. I believe that mistake doesn’t reflect who I am or what I stand for.”

The incident began when photos surfaced on social media of Kirkconnell at an Old South-themed party that she attended back in 2018, along with allegations she “liked” many Instagram posts that were racist in nature, and what many viewed as Harrison coming to her defense in this time of what he then called “cancel culture”.

On GMA, Chris expressed: “Antebellum parties are not OK,  Past, present, future, knowing what that represents is unacceptable.”

He also apologized to Lindsay, who had to shut down her Instagram account because of viral vitriol being sent her way over the incident with Harrison, adding this message to the public, “Anyone who is throwing hate towards Rachel Lindsay, please stop. It’s unacceptable.”

Photo: ABC

As to how he is trying to make amends, Harrison shared: “I made a mistake and I own that, Racism, oppression, these are big dynamic problems and they take serious work. I am committed to that work.”  The longtime Bachelor host then announced he is working with race educator Dr. Eric Dyson who has taught him about the idea of “counsel, not cancel”.

Chris says he plans to be back hosting the reality-dating series, expressing:  “I plan to be back. I want to be back.  This interview is not the finish line. There is much more work to be done.”

Following the exclusive, Michael Strahan described his conversation with Chris Harrison stating: “His apology is his apology, but it felt like it got nothing more than a surface response on any of this. Obviously, he is the man who wants to clearly stay on the show, but only time will tell if there is any meaning behind his words.”

So, what do you think of Chris Harrison’s responses during his first interview since the controversy? Should he return to hosting The Bachelor franchise? Comment below. But first check out his GMA exclusive.

GH’s Wes Ramsey Makes Statement on Criticism, Social Media, and Professionalism

General Hospital’s Wes Ramsey, who portrays polarizing character, Peter August on the ABC daytime drama series, responded to a recent take on his role from cast mate, Tristan Rogers (Scorpio) when a video made its way through social media.

The video was from a Cameo appearance, where Rogers offered an assessment of the Peter August storyline and expressed that while he knows Ramsey is a strong actor, he felt he was “wrong for the character” being that Peter was the son of the evil Faison played by Anders Hove.

Rogers also came to the defense of Ramsey and shared: “Don’t be too hard on Wes Ramsey. He’s got himself into a horrible storyline, and the storyline is the fault of the show. What they’ve literally done is they’ve painted themselves into a corner, and they don’t know how to get out of it.”

Currently, Peter’s story is front and center on GH with his wedding to Maxie (Kirsten Storms), and the fallout from all of the character’s dirty deeds.

Now Ramsey took to his Instagram account to address what transpired and his thoughts on the perils of social media, professionalism and acting, expressing: “Actors are storytellers, shapeshifters, chameleons. We’re also in the business of cultivating trust bc that’s how the best work is brought to life. We have to trust our imaginations, our instincts. We have to trust our fellow actors, because without them, there’s no scene to play. In the collaborative efforts of bringing any show to life, we also have to trust our directors each day to steer the arch of our story (like a conductor with a symphony) & trust our writers who are tasked with composing the symphonies we play out. I came up in a world of classical theater, where trusting the play, text, story is essential to the tightrope balancing act of making magic.  You will never hear me critique (on any public platform) the people responsible for the creative opportunities I enjoy each day. Without the trust of my writers, directors, producers & fellow actors, it would be impossible to live out my dreams. My job (& my only job) is to bring fearlessness, playfulness & passionate conviction to what has been created for me. My aim is to stretch myself (beyond the limits of where I think my boundaries may lye) each time I’m entrusted with material that allows those boundaries to be tested.

Every actor must believe they are the right person for their part or they will never achieve their potential, let alone surpass it. I was raised a gentleman & have two wonderful parents to thank for that, however, my polite personality (while rendering me easy to get along with on set) should have little bearing on my caliber of performance nor my castability as a professional.  I am leery of the pitfalls of social media & believe there are advantages to maintaining some mystery (even as a public figure) but I will always defend & protect what I hold dear (my job & my career) when they are publicly challenged, especially by those closest to me, whom I love & respect. Please know I bear no ill will. As a society, we are all still learning the full ramifications of living in an internet dominated culture. To all my many fans out there who offer encouragement & support, I hear you & am grateful for you. I’m having a blast… 🙂. Onward we go.”
