Queen Latifah is the next name to join the ranks of having a canceled daytime talk show! The syndicated show from Sony Pictures Television will shut down production at year’s end. Originals though will continue to air on CBS stations through March, but not continue after that

“We want to thank Dana (Queen Latifah’s real name), the producers and the entire staff of The Queen Latifah Show for creating a program that we are all very proud of.  Thank you also to our terrific station partners and advertisers who supported the show,” said Sony Pictures Television in a statement,

Queen Latifah then took to her facebook page to share this message for herself ,and the cast and crew of her show.

Dear Dana,

Just a little note to say Thank You… Thank you for your strong work ethic and great effort in getting The Queen Latifah Show off the ground and running.

Your dedication and sacrifice was crucial to the entire team, and in the face of intense challenges, you displayed “True Grit”!

Your Family, Partners, Staff and Crew showed up with you every step of the way. Be very proud of that! Not everyone can say the same.

You can also say you have been a blessing to and been blessed by amazing guests and incredible audiences for this show. We truly changed people’s lives for the better.

So… STAY POSITIVE, STAY STRONG, and most importantly, STAY OPEN… There is so much more God has in store! Lovingly, You!

P.S. This letter is for me, my staff, my crew, and everyone who was by my side for this incredible journey. The most important thing in life is that you wake up every single day and take chances. No matter what the outcome…believe in yourself and continue to fly.

Now with the cancellation notice today, it looks like the previously announced Men of Y&R episode slated to run next week on November 26th, has been put on hold and will air at a later date, On-Air On-Soaps will keep you updated as to when it will run.

What do you think of the cancellation of The Queen Latifah Show?  Did you watch it?  Do you think it deserved to go? What can you say about how Katie Couric, and other well-known celebrity figures aren’t getting the audience numbers they need to survive?  Can the networks finally see that the daytime space  is way to crowded with so many talkers? I am sorry to hear this.I will miss her show.

I am not shocked..
Talk show have become very lackluster..
They struggle to entertain..
I wouldn’t waste an hour of my time with people talking loudly about nothing important..
Most talk shows are junk TV …

But you gladly waste an hour of your time watching and singing the praises of misogynistic and disgusring rapists, murderers and criminals on the show formerly known as General Hospital. LOL. You crack me up Su.

Yes, it’s entertaining which is what TV is for.

You do realize the irony of that statement being made on a soap board

American soaps are the epitome of junk food tv. You learn nothing feel nothing and half an hour later you forgot you even watched a soap in the first place. 🙂

Well I humbly disagree with both you and Suooo, because both of you are painting too broad of brush, painting all soaps and talk shows as being the same. Yes, Suoo some talk shows were dull, but over the years I learned, felt many emotions, and was entertained by a number of talk shows.

Likewise the soaps Nicole, some stories are like junk food easily forgotten, but over the years I watched stories that moved me greatly. I can remember some stories from twenty years ago just like one remembers a great book of literature, so to say one can never learn or feel something from a soap is just not true. Soaps and talk shows are both a reflection of life, and life is made up of the good, the bad and everything in between.

Speak for yourself. I don’t watch soaps to ‘learn’ anything, as I said, I watch to be entertained.

Brett: Shortland Street, Home and Away, Neighbours, River City, People of the Valley, Eastenders, Emmerdale, Days of our Lives, Doctors, General Hospital, Hollyoaks.

This news is no surprise to me. Her talk show was boring and uninteresting although she had A-list celebrities as guests. But her interviewing skills are a lack thereof was off putting.

I think just the opposite Lou! She did have A!-list guests, but I like her interviewing style. I like her enthusiasm for her guests. I don’t watch talk shows much anymore, not even Ellen much who I love.

It won’t change my life if it’s gone, but I could name several that should be gone before hers!

I want almost all daytme talk shows gone and more soaps, but that ship has sailed!

Exactly Laurie I am with you. I loved QL when she was on the other Network but I refused to watch it on ABC because of them Cancelling our Soaps I only watch GH on the Network now. And QL was an excellent interviewr she was fake or boring. Lou i would love to know what you think a Talk Show should be. And if she was that bad she would have had a Talk Show for he 2nd time. She got cancelled because of us devoted Soap Fans refused to watch it no matter how much we love her. I have fought for our Soaps from day one when they starting talking about taking theim off. And me and my Group will continue until they get the message. And as for your opinion about Queen bye Felicia smdh

Lou, I agree with you totally about her lack fo interviewing skills, which made for a somewhat boring show. Queen, herself, is a sweet and likable personality, but that’s not enough to carry a daytime talk show to success.

don’t get me wrong her show was not that bad, wait a minute I take that back it was kind of hella boring, but I’m not surprised at all one bit. First Katie Couric gosh I cannot stand her, then the revolution now her show? shit what talk show is next? Oh could the spew be next on the list?first they cancel good shows for stupid dumb boring ones, now they cancel a talk show.if this is the sign of karma, then I definitely want the stupid spew chew to be the next one on the list to be axed!! That show makes me sick so bad,I just want to puke!

Right on, I sometimes have to endure a couple of minutes of The Chew when I switch from CBS (b&b) to ABC to watch GH and those 2 minutes are plenty, terrible presenters, dialogue, content, why on earth this gets the ratings and stays on the air is beyond me.

IT was a great show and I love her show because she was down to earth and not fake. And fun. I will not disrespect any good talk show especially when they are not be mean and treating people like dirt like the View. She treated all her guest with respect. But maybe that is what this world want with all the hateful nasty things on tv now all they can comprehend is violence, sex, etc. You want to know boring try watch Meredith V yarn. Sorry that her show was cancelled but I warm them on their FB page. Don’t go over to the ABC Network stay where you are at but they didn’t listen just like ABC/Disney doesnt. #SOAPS4EVER

I hate talk shows period!

I am very surprised about the cancellation of The Queen Latifah Show. I was not aware that the ratings were not very high.

she wrote a letter to herself to tell herself how amazing she is how much of a blessing she is to other people??? wow…

She wrote the letter addressed to Dana.

Dana IS Queen Latifah – that’s her name… it’s still a letter to herself (unless she suffers from DID (split personality) )

I love QL when I found out that they were going to go to ABC I posted on her page don’t do it. You are messing with the Soap Fans and it will be your downfall. But like ABC/Disney they didn’t listen. Woo Hoo #SOAPS4EVER

I believe CBS owned the Latifah show and in many markets it was shown in the morning. The show was syndicated, local markets buy it or pass on it. I don’t see any relationship to the canceled ABC soaps. I didn’t watch it myself, I have no idea if. It was any good or not.

Ok if CBS own it why wasn’t it still on CBS here. I just know that every show that has been in that spot has failed on ABC. Except our Soaps

And really and True ABC said themselves that they cancelled the Soaps not because of the ratings but because they want to make cheaper programming and how that work our for them noooot. SMH

This seems to be another indication that the audience does not want information after all.

Great news!

I’m curious. Wonder what the ratings and longevity are for afternoon shows, other than soaps, on all networks? And then how they compare with soaps? Is afternoon just a “black hole” for ratings networks want? Or is having stable audience numbers not enough for bottom lines that are always expected to grow? At least soaps were holding onto a loyal audience and filling air time that the new shows aren’t. If preferred demos and audiences for soaps weren’t growing at the pace networks wanted, perhaps they should accept some of the blame by looking at quality of writing and pace of stories. Or convert to 1/2 hrs instead of 1 hr to save money.

I’m waiting for Meredith Viera to be cancelled

I’m truly saddened by this one; Queen Latifah was a fantastic host and feel like CBS botched her series on purpose. She deserved to say on-air!

Get rid of that wretched drivel known as THE VIEW and I’ll be thrilled.

And somehow ABC Daytime believes bringing back Tyra Banks to host a talk show is a good idea?!?!?

eric…y-e-s…thank you!!!!! 5 years of Tyra Banks (from long ago) was QUITE ENOUGH!!!!! ROTTEN IDEA PERIOD!!!!!!

I only watched the show a handful of times and had no interest in watching again. the same goes for Meredith Viera…I watched it a few times and it was torture…I actually felt bad for her as it seemed so strained for her.

I used to tape access Hollywood but they replaced it here in Chicago… I liked it. I would watch it as I prepared dinner to rid my head from a long days work and stress and just decompress.

The Talk, The Chew , The View… enough. Just boring dribble.Tyra? saw her years ago and I am quite surprised TPTB believe she can draw an audience now when she never did before?

One more thing about the View…. they need to put it out of its misery.

I wish I had a good suggestion, as in business it’s always easy to criticize, but the hard part is to come up with a good resolution/ suggestion…and for this problem I have nothing to contribute.

Ok here’s where we Challenge MICHAEL FAIRMAN!!!! How about a reality show, say 30 minutes a day, in which every day you interview a soap star, get some real personal juicy 411, and get a big down the road”spoiler” out of each of them? I’d so rather watch that instead of TYRA! 😉

I think they all are a big snooze.

People that watch talk shows are killing the soaps.

Even if you watch a talk show on a different network than your soap(s), you are strengthening that talk show which will lead your soaps network to consider ending your soap for a talk show!

If you love your soaps more than talk shows, end the viewing of talk shows or lose the soaps!

It’s a war between soaps and talk shows…What side are you on?

‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast

Published

After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.

Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.

The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.

In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.

Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Photo: NBC

Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”

As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”

The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”

In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.

It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.

Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?

Published

on

By

On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.

As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.

Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Courtesy/ABC

Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.

BROTHERLY LOVE?

Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”

With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”

BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE

Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”

So, who do you think will be the person to blow Cassius’ cover? Will it be Britt herself? Josslyn? Liesl? Brennan? Nina? Lulu? Rocco, Maxie, Cullum or someone else? Let us know your pick in the comment section.
