As Y&R gets ready to officially kick-off their 50th anniversary season, beginning tomorrow on September 30th, the CBS soap opera will be serving up audio-only episodes in a showcast, and go live on weekdays via podcast platforms everywhere.

Harkening back to the golden age of soap opera which began on radio, The Young and the Restless, will offer up a modern take on the audio soap, making it the first and only network soap opera to do so.  This way fans can listen in to the drama anytime anywhere.

In a statement to Deadline, Steve Raizes, EVP of podcasting and audio for Paramount, shared: “We are thrilled to be launching The Young and the Restless as a showcast. As we continue to expand our podcast offerings, we find shows that share a deeply passionate fanbase translate well into the audio space.  We’ve seen significant success with this strategy with The Late Show Pod Show with Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show: Ears Edition and expect similar results with The Young and the Restless.”

So, will you be checking out Y&R’s audi0-only episode showcast? Comment below.

I’m not a big podcastee (?) but I’m glad this market is becoming available for YR fans. By the way, in celebration of the 50th anniversary, my favorite alumnus Billy Miller will be guest starring on the October 3rd episode of NCIS. Can’t wait to see the best, the brightest, the sexiest Billy Abbott the show ever had. I miss him every day.

Lolll
Cbs and Sony either don’t give a shit or are truly lost
Viewers can barely stay awake during live episodes on tv what makes them think audio podcasts will be any less worthless
We don’t care about gimmicks or ugly new glitzy sets we just want a real writer and e.p!!
Fire Griffith and Morons and then we can celebrate the 50th anniversary!

I’m a lifelong viewer
Everyone I know who was also lifelong viewers have stopped as it’s simply no longer recognizable
Besides the character s and actors the feel, story and quality of the show is completely unwatchable
It’s cheap, cheesy and just garbage
I watch out of habit hoping it can even be a quarter of it’s former self
Griffith, Morina , Sony and cbs should be embarrassed
If you think this show is good I feel sorry for you

Being old and having listened to the soaps from the late thirtys, I can tell you they were just as exciting as they are now.You used your imagination and though you couldn’t see a person standing in front of a microphone reading a script, believe me you knew exactly what the character looked like. The Golden Age of Radio was exactly that.

While I would ordinarily think this is a great idea, Y&R first needs quality storylines that I’m interested in following. Take a look at the past….housekeepers such as Mamie and Esther were main characters. Mrs Martinez needs to be a main character….and give her a family. The Rosales family was a step in the right direction for diversity and new blood, but now they are gone. So we need Mrs Martinez and family. Stop with the mergers and acquisitions. The family business aspect of Y&R was interesting way back when….back then the stories were interesting….cosmetics, the men’s line and Brash… Read more »

For those of us who are movie buffs this anniversary celebration feels a little like the old photographs of the MGM anniversary party. One last look before the industry changes forever and the movie system as we knew it was gone. I always thought Young and the Restless would be the last soap to go. Looking at its ratings I thonk the fans should prepare themselves for the inevitable move to streaming.

‘Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles’ Josh Flagg to Make Guest Appearance on Days of our Lives

From real estate agent to soap opera star, that’s where Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star Josh Flagg finds himself when he visits Salem and Days of our Lives on-air next spring.

According to a report from PEOPLE.com, Flagg will appear in the May 12th, 2023 episode streaming on Peacock.

The details of his character’s arc is being kept under wraps. But when looking at the first look exclusive, Flagg appears in scenes with DAYS Rob Scott Wilson (Alex) and Abigail Klein (Stephanie).

When questioned how he came to be cast on DAYS, Flagg shared that the Days of our Lives casting team reached out to him because they thought he would “play this particular character very well.”

Turns out that Josh is a longtime fan of Days of our Lives and recalls watching the soap with his mother growing up.

In addition to his DAYS stint, look for Josh tomorrow night, December 8th, when an all-new season of MDLLA bows on Bravo at 9 p.m. ET.

So, what do you think of Josh Flagg coming to DAYS? Is he playing a real estate agent? Comment below.

Anne Heche Final Autopsy Reveals No illegal Substances in Her System at the Time of Fatal Car Crash

The final autopsy report is in, which puts a bit more into perspective what happened to Daytime Emmy winner, Anne Heche (ex-Vicky/Marley, Another World), when she crashed her car into a home back in August, which ultimately took her life.

It has been suggested for months that Heche was impaired while driving erratically on August 5th, which ultimately caused her to crash and suffer a life-ending brain injury.

However, the L.A. County medical examiner-coroner‘s office revealed that the final toxicology results (concluded from blood and urine tests taken when Heche went to the hospital) showed the presence of benzoylecgonine, an inactive metabolite of cocaine. That indicates past use, the examiner confirmed. Results also showed prior use of marijuana, but not at the time of injury. There was no alcohol detected in Heche’s system either.

There had been speculation that Anne was inebriated at the time of the accident which was further fueled by an image that appeared to show a liquor bottle in the front seat of her vehicle.  In addition, the Fentanyl detected in Heche’s system was administered in the hospital after her injuries were sustained.

The medical examiner had determined that Anne died of inhalation and thermal injuries. She was trapped in her Mini Cooper for around 30 minutes before she was rescued by first responders. The official report lists sternal fracture due to blunt trauma as another “significant condition.”

Heche was hospitalized immediately following the fiery car crash. She went into a coma and was declared brain dead the evening of August 11th.  However, her body was kept on life support until August 14th when her organ recipients had been found.  She was 53-years-old at the time of her death.

What do you think about the autopsy report on the death of Anne Heche and the ending of such a talented and respected actress? Comment below.

Tony Khan Confirms William Regal’s Exit from AEW to Return to WWE

On Wednesday, ahead of tonight’s AEW Dynamite on TBS, and to promote Saturday’s Ring of Honor Final Battle pay-per-view, AEW President Tony Khan spoke with the media and answered questions on several topics.

Chief among them is the status of William Regal who reportedly is heading back to the WWE.  In story, Regal was taken out by MJF on last week’s AEW Dynamite, after Regal helped MJF become the AEW World Champion during the main event at the Full Gear pay-per-view in November.   During last week’s episode, Regal was carried out of the ring by stretcher after being clobbered in the head from behind with brass knuckles by the new champ in another swerve.

Today on the media call, Khan reportedly explained the Regal situation sharing that Regal approached AEW executive Megha Parekh and requested to be released form his contract so he could go back and work his “golden years” coaching his son, Charlie Dempsey, and to the WWE.

This all went down around the time Khan was with his mother in Toronto, who was undergoing a major operation when doctors found that she had a spot on her heart and if the spot was removed, that it the best chance of stopping the strokes she was having.  She has already had two strokes, previously.

During this time, Khan arranged a call with Regal and shared that Regal had good intentions for wanting to go back. He was very empathic to the situation, given what he was going through with his mother and his own family at the time.

Khan added that Regal is still with AEW through the holidays, but he wishes William all the best and that it was “hard to see him go”, and they’re going to make some on-screen sacrifices to help him do the right thing for his family.  In addition, Regal’s release was on the condition that he could not be on TV next year, meaning Regal could then only work behind the scenes at WWE, anyway.

Tonight on ‘Dynamite’ look for Khan to address the William Regal situation.

Reports from Pro Wrestling.net, Fightful.com, David Bixenspan
