As Y&R gets ready to officially kick-off their 50th anniversary season, beginning tomorrow on September 30th, the CBS soap opera will be serving up audio-only episodes in a showcast, and go live on weekdays via podcast platforms everywhere.

Harkening back to the golden age of soap opera which began on radio, The Young and the Restless, will offer up a modern take on the audio soap, making it the first and only network soap opera to do so.  This way fans can listen in to the drama anytime anywhere.

In a statement to Deadline, Steve Raizes, EVP of podcasting and audio for Paramount, shared: “We are thrilled to be launching The Young and the Restless as a showcast. As we continue to expand our podcast offerings, we find shows that share a deeply passionate fanbase translate well into the audio space.  We’ve seen significant success with this strategy with The Late Show Pod Show with Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show: Ears Edition and expect similar results with The Young and the Restless.”

I’m not a big podcastee (?) but I’m glad this market is becoming available for YR fans. By the way, in celebration of the 50th anniversary, my favorite alumnus Billy Miller will be guest starring on the October 3rd episode of NCIS. Can’t wait to see the best, the brightest, the sexiest Billy Abbott the show ever had. I miss him every day.

Lolll
Cbs and Sony either don’t give a shit or are truly lost
Viewers can barely stay awake during live episodes on tv what makes them think audio podcasts will be any less worthless
We don’t care about gimmicks or ugly new glitzy sets we just want a real writer and e.p!!
Fire Griffith and Morons and then we can celebrate the 50th anniversary!

You know how to STOP watching

I’m a lifelong viewer
Everyone I know who was also lifelong viewers have stopped as it’s simply no longer recognizable
Besides the character s and actors the feel, story and quality of the show is completely unwatchable
It’s cheap, cheesy and just garbage
I watch out of habit hoping it can even be a quarter of it’s former self
Griffith, Morina , Sony and cbs should be embarrassed
If you think this show is good I feel sorry for you

surgery. Need writers to always include firmer fami5nembers we all have newstiries, news Tories, as we age, love any age, illness, drugs, family worries, deaths,Ccident, finances, epidemics.we need people that remember the show history Young writers,go back, learn the wonder of this show. This is A Erica hist5,not Sony new owners and writers bring back as the world turns from the radio to today’s reality
.

Trevor St. John is the BEST news ever for this or any show!

Absolutely! Hope it’s long term and not just a guest appearance.

Being old and having listened to the soaps from the late thirtys, I can tell you they were just as exciting as they are now.You used your imagination and though you couldn’t see a person standing in front of a microphone reading a script, believe me you knew exactly what the character looked like. The Golden Age of Radio was exactly that.

We agree, all ages and sexes, all occupations watch .

While I would ordinarily think this is a great idea, Y&R first needs quality storylines that I’m interested in following. Take a look at the past….housekeepers such as Mamie and Esther were main characters. Mrs Martinez needs to be a main character….and give her a family. The Rosales family was a step in the right direction for diversity and new blood, but now they are gone. So we need Mrs Martinez and family. Stop with the mergers and acquisitions. The family business aspect of Y&R was interesting way back when….back then the stories were interesting….cosmetics, the men’s line and Brash & Sassy gave us everything from products to marketing to modeling. But these days we get boring mergers and hostile takeovers with little else.

For those of us who are movie buffs this anniversary celebration feels a little like the old photographs of the MGM anniversary party. One last look before the industry changes forever and the movie system as we knew it was gone. I always thought Young and the Restless would be the last soap to go. Looking at its ratings I thonk the fans should prepare themselves for the inevitable move to streaming.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
