The Young and the Restless Justin Hartley Video Interview: Taking On The Role Of Adam Newman, His Primetime Success & Genoa City Co-Stars!

Since joining The Young and the Restless, Justin Hartley has been taking Genoa City by storm with his portrayal of the black sheep of the Newman clan, Adam Newman, but with a twist! The guy is posing as Gabriel Bingham.
As Adam (who everyone believes has died except for Jack Abbott) lurks around his wife and his son without them knowing it, the stage is set for stunning revelations and complex storylines for months and months to come.
In the hands of the more compelling and very talented Hartley, fans have been on the edge of their seats. What makes Justin’s transition into the role all the more intriguing is that he had the unenviable task of being a recast after fan favorite Michael Muhney’s controversial departure. Currently, Justin is winning over viewers of the number one soap opera with his own take on Adam.
Before joining Y&R, Hartley had made a name for himself with primetime successes in the series; Mistresses, Revenge, and Smallville to name a few, but in a bold move to some, he then decided to returned to his soap roots (he started his career on Passions) for this plum role on Y&R, and in this chat he elaborates on that decision.

When On-Air On-Soaps sat down with Justin for this very special video interview it was on the morning of his birthday last Friday, and while we kicked off his all-day celebration, we also got the chance to chat with him about working with his Y&R co-stars including: Peter Bergman (Jack), Eric Braeden (Victor), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea), Kelly Sullivan (Sage), and Sally Kellerman (Constance), and what he thought about the recent touching scene where Adam gets to hold his son Connor for the first time since his mysterious return to Genoa City. Later, we played a little game show segment with the birthday boy to see how well he recalls some of his previous television roles.
Currently in story, it looks like Adam/Gabriel’s goal is to move-in on Chelsea, and as Justin mentions in our interview, he is curious to know what would happen if Chelsea falls for Gabriel! Does he ever reveal that he is really Adam … or does he let her be in love with his faux-persona? Find out Justin’s thoughts on the matter!
Watch Justin Hartley’s video interview below! Then let us know … what was your favorite part of it? Are you digging Justin in the role of Adam? Looking forward to what’s in story for Adam during Y&R’s February Sweeps disaster storylines? Share your thoughts below!

KUDOS FOR HER CO-STARS
Speaking with Access Hollywood, Deidre shared how affected she was by seeing those she work with taking time to honor her five decades contribution to the soap. “You look out and see this face, and this face, and this face, and think, ‘I know all of you. I’ve worked with all of you. I’ve suffered with all of you. I’ve wept with all of you. I mean, it’s just a family.”
Deidre was surprised by videos played to her during the celebration from Alison Sweeney (Sami), Thaao Penghlis (Tony) and Leann Hunley (Anna), plus The Young and the Restless icons, Eric Braeden (Victor) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki).
Speaking to the Access Hollywood cameras, Eric Martsolf who plays Deidre’s son on the show, Brady Black expressed, “My first day was with her. I walked in and she gave this giant just enveloped hug. I knew right then and there that this was probably a place I was going to be for a long time.”

Susan Seaforth Hayes, who plays Julie Williams, added, “When I was losing my husband (Bill Hayes) in real life, who was also my husband on the show, she came to be at Bill’s bedside. The support and the the tenderness, that outpouring has stuck with me a lot.
Stephen Nichols said, “It’s the queen, the diva of daytime television, Deidre Hall. I had to dress up and I know that she’s the kind of person who would appreciate that because she’s always so perfectly coiffed and beautiful.

RYAN GOSLING/DEIDRE HALL COLLAB UPDATE
With 50 years and showing no signs of slowing down, Hall recently learned she had another big star who also admired and adored her, three-time Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling. Hall gave an update if a collab with Ryan and Deidre is in the cards? We know Ryan’s partner, Eva Mendes is all for it! “I’ve been in touch with Eva, and she’s amazing and generous, and kind and thoughtful. So, I hope we all get to go toe to toe at some point.”

Patrick Muldoon Laid to Rest in Celebration of Life Attended by ‘Days of Our Lives’ Stars
Over the weekend on May 16, former Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place star, Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin Reed) was laid to rest in a celebration of life service attended by many who worked and knew him in the DAYS family. The mass was held at the St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California.
Muldoon passed away back on April 19 when he had a sudden and fatal heart attack. The fan favorite actor was 57-years-old. The coroner’s report and death certificate reportedly indicated that underlying causes included: pulmonary embolism and coagulopathy disorder, a genetic condition that impairs the blood’s ability to form clots properly, were involved.
Galen Gering (Rafe, DAYS) posted an incredibly touching video montage, showing the handout of the celebration of life mass for Muldoon. Then, the lyrics to one of Muldoon’s beautiful songs, as he was also an accomplished singer and songwriter. That was followed by a photo of Christie Clark (ex-Carrie, DAYS), Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami, DAYS) and himself, and then one of Patrick with Kate Mansi (ex-Abigail, DAYS, now Kristina, GH). At the end of the compilation, Gering wrote, “We will never forget you, Bruv.”

Kate Mansi shared a photo on her Instagram Story with Galen, Christie, Alison and herself from the the Celebration of Life expressing, “One beautiful day celebrating the spirit of Patrick Muldoon. No surprise it was as authentic as you my friend.”
Rodney Peete, the former USC football star also attended and took to his Instagram and shared, “Tough Day saying goodbye to my friend Pat Muldoon!!! He was my Teammate, My Brother, My Friend🙏🏾 miss you already brotha!!” It should be noted that while Patrick made his career in acting, he was also quite the athlete when he was growing up, including playing tight end for the USC Trojans in the 80s.
In addition, Patrick Muldoon’s ex-girlfriend and dear friend Denise Richards’ (ex-Shauna, B&B) daughter Sami Sheen was also in attendance and shared a snap of the handout for the service on her Instagram.
Soap fans first saw Muldoon as Kate’s (Lauren Koslow) son on DAYS back in 1992, where he quickly became pat of the love story between Austin Reed and Carrie Brady and of course, Carrie’s sister, Sami, wanting Austin for herself! Patrick left the series in 1995. He later made a comeback for appearances in 2011 and 2012.
On Melrose Place, Muldoon played bad buy Richard Hart from 1995-1996. He launched his acting career while in college landing the role of Matt in the 1990 sitcom Who’s The Boss? alongside the likes of Judith Light (ex-Karen, OLTL) and Tony Danza. Following his graduation, Patrick nabbed a recurring role as Jeffrey Hunter in Saved By The Bell by 1991 and the rest was history.
Now below, take a look at the images from Patrick Muldoon’s celebration of life and remembrances from Galen Gering. Then let us know, were you touched to see Patrick’s DAYS colleagues in attendance to remember one of their own? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

General Hospital
‘General Hospital’s’ Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’
The on-screen father/son combo of General Hospital’s Dante and Rocco Falconeri as portrayed by Dominic Zamprogna and Finn Carr were part of high emotional stakes scenes on episodes airing May 11-15.
First, Finn Carr’s Rocco is so guilt-ridden and burdened with the secret that he shot WSB director, Ross Cullum that it’s eating him alive. So much so, that he gets into a heated argument with Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) and Danny (Asher Antonyzyn). Rocco feels so badly that Danny’s father was taken from him for parts unknown by the WSB, all because Jason refused to implicate Rocco as the shooter.
In a heartbreaking scene, Rocco shows up at Britt’s door and lets her know he can’t take it anymore and that the secret he is keeping is tearing him apart. The fear is palpable in Rocco’s eyes. Britt calls Rocco a hero for saving her life and Jason’s and he has to remember that. Britt hugs him and promises that he can come talk to her anytime. In that moment, Rocco felt seen and felt safe.

Courtesy/ABC
ROCCO ON THE EDGE
All of the beats mentioned above were played with depth and acting maturity by Finn Carr; that it is so very clear why the writers and the producers are so comfortable giving him the ball in this umbrella story. He steps up to the plate every time and hits it out of the park.
Rocco also overheard his parents fighting over him after Dante figured out that Rocco was responsible for the shooting, and confronted Lulu (Alexa Havins) for withholding the truth from him. As their argument escalated and their relationship was further threatened by the lies, Rocco listened to the whole thing from the outside porch.
Eventually Dante, who had learned the truth by having Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) help him piece together what happened the night Cullum was shot, has a heart to heart with his son. He asks Rocco to tell him in his own words the events that transpired, and promises Rocco, that even though he is the police commissioner, he is going to help him. Rocco goes step by step over how Cullum was about to strike Jason with a weighted-baton and how the gun was loose on the ground and he shot him. Dante says his actions saved Jason and Britt’s life, and that he is going to help his son from here on out. He just wished everyone had come to him sooner, because as the father it’s his job to protect his son, not the other way around.
DANTE COMES TO TERMS
Still later in the week, Dante is visited by Elizabeth, and they discuss how they are going to cover-up any evidence that Rocco was at the hospital the night of the shooting with a hand injury, and that Dante is going to make sure the evidence against Rocco disappears. Something that is a huge disconnect for anyone that knows what a fine and upstanding cop Dante has been through the years, but he is determined to help his son stay safe and to keep him close.
However, Cullum is on the hunt for said evidence, and thinks Danny may have shot him in the back (or does he … and he knows Rocco shot him?). He visits Dante’s office and wants the evidence in the shooting. Meanwhile, bets are we are a few story beats away from Danny learning Rocco shot Cullum.
Throughout all the material given to Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna they rose to the occasion. Finn, getting the opportunity to play the often uptight Rocco on the edge, and Dominic, showing us how he can make us feel what Dante is feeling just by watching the emotion and hurt in his eyes. Therefore, Michael Fairman TV names Finn Carr and Dominic Zamprogna our picks for the Power Performances of the Week.
Now below, let us know if you agree with our picks of Finn and Dominic as the standout performances of the week, and if so, what moment really tugged on your heartstrings featuring Rocco and/or Dante via the comment section.

Loving Justin as Adam/Gabriel.
Just put Sharon and Adam back together and I will be happy. I am very upset the writers forgot Sharon and Adam had years of friendship and super couple. Chelsea does not come close.
That is what I said. Sharon and Adam should get back together. Sharon knows Adam better then anyone. Adam could not live without Sharon his entire time on the show. Why are the writers changing history anyone can look back and see how much Adam and Sharon meant to each other. Chelsea never should of been the person to give Adam a kid. Sharon was the love of Adams life he repeated time and time again for so many years
I wish Adam had told Sage that Sharon is a good mother, etc. They were married once upon a time.
I was one of the viewers caterwauling,”No Adam recast!” I really did not think it was possible. I am happy to be found wrong.
Michael Muhney was brilliant at creating a complex, nuanced character. This actor has run with the baton he was handled paying fidelity to the characterization of Adam while also making it his own. While the two actors do not look alike, their mannerisms are similar. Justin Hartley has a certain glint in his eye which is strongly evocative of Michael Muhney’s Adam. That said, I would not mind a friendship or a romantic relationship being re established between Sharon and Adam. Certainly both characters know how it feels to be treated like the Newman’s bastard red headed step child. I also wouldn’t mind seeing him reunited with Chelsey and his son. I would REALLY like him to be absolved from the hit and run killing of Delia as that story never set well with me.
Pratt hear our cry! SHARON and ADAM belong TOGETHER! I never EVER liked Chelsea from day one. Sharon and Adam for years had me excited to see The Young and The Restless. They just need him to come back to show he loves his son but as soon as he does he WILL go find as the role of Adam Newman can be seen in many videos he will find his true love Sharon. Infact Adam has always said “Sharon you can’t quit me!” He loves Sharon. STOP treating Sharon like a doormate! Also bring back the REAL Drucilla aka Victoria Rowell!!!!!! 🙂
NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!! this whole year has been such a long wait for us fans waiting to see Adam and Chelsea reunite. Chelsea is the Love of his life. Sharon cannot compare with Chelsea. Sharon needs a new love interest and stop circling from one Newman to another. Leave Chelsea and Adam alone. he is going to be the next Powerful Newman with his beautiful family there right beside him and Victor can retire from Y&R.
Shadam was Sharon Case & Michael Muhney. It was their chemistry that sold that pairing. Justin Hartley may be a stud muffin, but he’s no Muhney. I know a lot of people are licking his banana, but he’s got a long way to go before he’s up to that task of making the viewers forget about Muhney’s version of Adam Newman. Let Hartley stayed paired with MCE’s Chelsea, who is more his speed. Leave Case with Morrow. At least they have a long term history together.
No way should he get with Sharon!! Sharon is an idiot!! Chelsea and Adam are HOT!!!
Mr Pratt and JFP please hear our cry! Also bring back the REAL Drucilla aka Victoria Rowell
Adam ONLY married Chelsea because what happened instead of Victor trying to frame Adam for Skyes death Victor changed it to frame Sharo because Sharon went to Hawaii to clear Adams name & ask Skye to come back. But Skye fell into the volcano & Victor watched Sharon try to help save Skye but instead he let Skye die and Sharon take the blame. Then he told Nick and Nick said if Sharon sees Adam he wil take Faith away, Nick is always pointing his finger at Sharon when Nick has always been a skirt chasing whore daddies little boy! Sharon did a time in jail for her crimes but Sharon when let out had to be forced to choose Adam or Faith . Adam was so upset he was drinking and Chelsea the pregnant barfly came along & Adam felt bad for her. She got him to feel bad for her & he had nobody so she was second choice! Chelsea was never right for Adam! Adam always adored & obsessed with Sharon truly loved Sharon & she him. At least Sharon has Dylan but Sharon should STOP being nice to Avery and Chelsea!
Love the new Adam, better looking, better actor and so far, no cockiness.
He and chelsea have incredible chemistry, unlike chelsea and billy. He’s like a mannequin.
Sharon and adam? Why? Nick will always be the love of sharon’s life, just like Victor is Nikki’s. Doesn’t matter who they’re with, they will always be emotionally tied to Nick or Victor. Why make Adam miserable?
I want him to be absolved of Delia’s death too, and I have a feeling we will find out that it was either Kelly or Sage who did it. My money is on Kelly. I so want to get rid of her and that crazed lapdog look she has on her face.
I think Justin has done amazingly well stepping into the role of Adam Newman; he’s really gone ahead and made the role all of his own. I’m looking forward to see the outcome of Adam’s deceit and when it’s come to light that he’s alive and has been functioning in Genoa City as Gabriel Bingham. I have a strong feeling this disaster storyline is going to be where all of that comes out.
Michael thanks for the interview but Shadam fans want to know will we get back Shadam. Sharon and Adam have such a romantic history . Remember New Orleans 🙂
That was with MM &Sc in the parts no going back let them rewrite history! Adam & Sharon were a tragic love story but it was the actors that sold it! Let it go
No I love Sharon and Adam also. I will never be down for Chelsea with Adam . It was never a love story. Chelsea was preggers in a bar and Adam sad he could not be with Sharon . Nick made Sharon choose either its Faith or Adam of course Sharon had to pick her child. Chelsea has zero chemistry with Adam . The nuAdam right away had amazing chemistry with Sharon just in the little we seen. It was so so exciting #Shadam 🙂
I agree with Kay. There is no going back and the new Adam/Gabriel needs to stay with Chelsea. Justin is doing a great job but that magic your talking about was S.C.& M.M. in New Orleans. If it we’re to continue with M.M. do you really think Sharon would have been going through this custody case without Adam by her side? The writers have given Justin his own story line and we have to put the past where it belongs. Even when Sage asked about Sharon in the coffee house Adam only said “my ex wife”. We need to bury Shadam.
JH is doing a fantastic job as “Adam Newman”. Michael Muhney was Great and I loved his portrayal but JH is has won me over!
Sharon has to find out its Adam . PLEASE mention Sharon Case in the interviews she is treated so horrible on the show
Ditto
I love the interview, Justin seem so down to earth and he has really made Adam Newman worth watching again. I can’t wait to see when everyone find out Adam is alive and I am curious on how they will get him out of all the legal trouble including the assuming another person ‘s identity and financial assets.
Well, he’s already kissing Braeden’s butt, so he’ll be able to stick around for at least a year.
Hartley should have thanked Muhney for developing such a great character for him to inherit, but Phelps probably told him to never mention his name.
I love this guy’s personality. Very real and down to earth. He is doing a killer job with this role. It was an adjustment after losing Michael Muhney in the role but he has really blossomed. He has similar intensity in certain scenes with Jack and Victor like Mr Muhney did. I am really looking forward to seeing his true identity be revealed to Chelsea and the rest of the Newman clan. Justin Hartley thank you for being so amazing and for taking the chance with the loyal Y&R fans. You are doing a great job. Keep it up.
Loving Justin Hartley as Adam. Michael who?
If not for Michael Muhney’s incredible work for over four years, there’d be no Adam Newman. Funny how silly fan girls forget reality.
LOL
YES! guys included
thank you for bringing to the forefront thee one and only Michael Muhney
I absolutely do know… that Justin Hartley is bringing show
just like Gina Tognoni…
I can’t believe that two recasts… are making their mark
JH has made Adam again
NOW : it’s feast time for ignite passion and frontburner Adam and Sharon!
MIchael Muhney : I hope you show up on DAYS
I’m just messing with ‘ya. I like Michael Muhney’s work, but I prefer Justin Hartley’s portrayal of Adam. As for Mr. Muhney, I hope he unloaded that “big backpack full of hubris”, learned from this experience, and finds success. Loved his Sheriff Lamb on Veronica Mars.
And “Fan Girl”? Really. lol.
this guy is bananas hottie fineness. He is Adam perfection!
so enjoyed this interview. We fans like to get a feel of the real personality of a favorite TV star.
Justin has done a fantastic job coming in as he has. Congrats and thanks.
Loved Michael as Adam, but if anyone could fit in it is Justin. He suits the character perfectly, handsome, young and sexy as H***. Best to You Justin, we will continue to watch….everyday. Young and Restless is MY daily stress buster.
I hope Sharon now goes and figures it out its Adam. Adam and Sharon were everyones favorite couple. The love and freindship was like nobody. Nick is nothing. Sharon and Adam would do anything and knew each other better then they knew themselves 🙂
I’m with you… I HOPE beyond HOPE that it’s Sharon who figures out who Adam is first.
therein… romance abound… and their lives are all that matter…. team up and bring down the dullard Newmans.. including Nikki
Not everyone 🙂
NOOOOOOOO I just do not think Chelsea is right for Adam. Adam and Sharon loved each other so very much. I really hate how the writers keep making Sharon be so abused by the Newmans. It is a shame . Sharon is a kind women. Adam loved Sharon and Sharon loved Adam. Nick does not do right by Sharon. Team Shadam
I can just feel the fan sentiment… that Y&R had better not screw this up… the true loves of their lives… one and only
Sharon and Adam!
period
for many reasons… I’m sick of the Newman “enterprise’ that y&r is built around
they dull the senses… i’m so over them all… except Victoria.. she’s thee more humane one… I’ll grandstand …
it’s heartache over… Sharon and Adam live on
I’m new to the Y&R since ABC axed OLTL and AMC. So I don’t know all of the histories, including Sharon and Adam. But I could see the two of them as an interesting story to rekindle. Especially from what I have seen so far. I haven’t seen all the “bad” stuff Sharon did in the past so I’m a little biased. But I don’t now like the way she’s being dumped on by everyone. Especially Nick. At least they had a flashback on some of what he’s done in the past, and I think he’s a narcissistic jerk.
Adam does not tell Chelsea who he really is because he does not trust her. BUT I know Sharon loves Adam enough to keep him safe and keep his secrete. Now the writers should know that history and know Sharon and Adam are a true super couple . Loved them inj the past and will again team Sharon forever! 🙂
without doubt… TEAM Shadam “FOREVER”
Y&R has no other recourse
fan outcry NOW
@patrick it will never be the same MM & SC sold it I can’t imagine the same chemistry with JH so let it go I for one want my girl to just walk away from the Newmans
Great interview. Justin looks like a really nice person and is a great Adam Newman.
Love him as Adam
I love and will always miss Michael Muhney but this guy Justin is damn good as Adam and a nice guy to boot. Keep up the good work dude!
Justin is adorable! I have been fan of his since his days on Smallville, and I was thrilled that he not only wanted to come back to daytime, but that Y&R snagged him. He is doing a fantastic job as Adam/Gabriel. I cannot believe that he eats like crap considering how in shape he is. I love to eat too, but thankfully I choose healthy food.
I want to see Adam succeed in winning back Chelsea and Connor. There is a lot of potential for Chadam 2.0 with their great acting, looks, and charm. Both are under age 40 and both look young and great and should be a big part of the show now and in the future. They are a great couple with great chemistry and with good writing there is great potential.
Justin is doing a great job as Adam/Gabriel – another successful re-cast following Gina Tognoni taking over the role of Phyllis.
Now if we can just get another Billy Abbott.
I read this blog daily in hopes of Billy Abbott being recast. The actor playing him does not get the role of Billy at all! Agree with you on the recast of Adam and Phyllis, both are fantastic!
Shadam were not a great love story, and being involved with Adam was one of the gross stories that mearly destroyed Sharon’s character. They are better as friends. Chelsea is the love of his life.
AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Don’t want to see Adam ever with Sharon again. Him and Chelsea Make the show. Sharon is os whiney and always blaming her actions on her meds.its so discouraging to hear that for people who have bi-polar.Not being on her meds does not make you do things you don’t remember. It just gives you a BS attitude that you know what your doing but don’t care. That is another big mistake if they keep pairing sharon and Nick back together at times. Its old. we have already watched that for decades with Victor and Nikki.
That’s so true, Adam and Chelsea forever!
Michael, both you and Justin are such polite, gracious and fun loving men. Such a great interview. I would like to see Adam soften up a little more and make his friend Jack very proud of him again he needs to so he can actually show how much Conner means to him.
Did you notice when speaking of Sally Kellerman he said “the other day” making it sound like she is back filming scenes? An online search shows that in a Jan. 23 interview with The Morning Call, Kellerman confirms she was asked to return and she agreed. Will she be appearing in flashback scenes, as a ghost or is she still alive?
Yes I caught that about Sally Kellerman. I bet Adam will begin having nightmares or possibly Sage could.
I love Justin he is so hot .watching him just makes my day .you could say he came on this show just in time sorry about that,Justin Keep up the good work.
Justin is so very hot and is such a nice person too,and of course a fantastic actor. Love the interview.what a guy.
While I am a definitely a fan of Michael Muhney’s acting…..it just so happens I am a fan of Justin Hartley’s as well. I especially enjoyed seeing Justin in the primetime series Mistresses . He is the perfect replacement for the Adam Newman/Gabriel role. Besides being eye candy….he is a talented actor. I really wish Justin and Michael the best in their new acting ventures and look forward to seeing them both.. Great interview.
