THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Nick Has Been Masquerading As J.T. And Blindsides Victor

Courtesy/CBS

On Monday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, as Victor (Eric Braeden) comes face to face with J.T. he tells him that he’s a coward hiding in the shadows, who goes after the defenseless, but now the tables are turned.  Oh, have they Victor?  Might want to think again!

Victor reaches into his pocket making it look like he might pull out a gun, and all of a sudden the voice emanating out of J.T. is a very familiar one!  It’s Nick’s voice who says, “What? You’re going to shoot your own son now?”  And with that, Nick (Joshua Morrow) pulls off his prosthetic mask of J.T. revealing himself with a typical ‘Nick-ism’, “Sup Dad?”

Nick then lets loose and tells Victor that he has been behind everything that has happened surrounding “J.T’s re-emergence” including the leaked documents.  Standing his ground, Nick tells his father how he has been watching how Victor operates his whole life, and how he has always been perceived Nick as weak.  Then, Nick launches into how Victor was proud of Adam who was more in his image, by the despicable things he would do in business, and in his life.  Nick says he could deal with Victor making a mockery out of Nick’s business career, but not taking his son, Christian.

Victor is not impressed, and somewhat amused by his son standing up to him.  However, Nick has warning for him, stating: “Things are in motion that can’t be stopped!” Nick doubts that Victor will mention any of this publicly, because that would mean he was taken down by his “underachieving son.”

Later, Nick returns home to Sharon with flowers in tow  Then, Victor shows up.  Sharon asks Victor the latest in finding J.T.  Victor guesses Nick hasn’t filled her in on the latest developments and exits.  Sharon asks Nick, “What have you done?” Nick reveals he has been masquerading as J.T.  You can see just how Sharon is somewhat freaked out, because she is covering up J.T.’s “murder!”  Nick goes on to admit he leaked the documents, too.  Sharon is shocked, and said she saw J.T, out the window.  He apologizes for scaring her, but he needed to carry out his plan.  Nick says once Victor got custody of Christian by attacking Sharon’s mental state in the arbitration, he was going to make him pay.  Sharon asks if Nick even thought what pretending to be J.T has done to his sister, Victoria (Amelia Heinle).  Nick will not apologize for what he has done intimating there is more ahead,  and leaving Sharon to question his behavior stating, she doesn’t know who he is anymore!

I was very disappointed in the whole so called reveal/showdown between Nick and Victor. I knew this was going to happen and couldn’t wait for the fireworks. There was hardly any emotions, and they acted like they were just reading their scripts to each other. Also the women ganging up on Nick, after all the crap Victor pulled, was very unrealistic to me.No use saying any more. Everyone will have their own opinions about this, but Nick being a favorite of mine, has my suppirt, and wish he’d done more to the old S.O.B.

I agree favorite actor off screen nice guy but man he has for years played the mad frat boy or the horney frat boy! The best storyline he has ever done was Cassie’s death. I do find it silly that everything Victor has done to Sharon she has any concern for Victor just tell Nick the truth and bury this storyline along with JT

Victor hardly shows emotion anytime. He acts as deceitful and crooked as always except when he was acting sick then he showed emotion but it was for himself.

“Negative Nancy”? Say, I never heard that one before (and hopefully never again!) :):(

You’ve never heard of the saying “Negative Nancy?” It’s just like “Debbie Downer,” but instead of a downer, they’re negative. It’s just a saying, Nance!

Gotta keep you guys in line, T.
Seriously, I was pretty young, but, I do remember another time….another place …..another Cricket…almost a lifetime ago…loved her. Christine is too much of a hard-arse. I liked the softer side of her, which translates into Cricket.
I wouldn’t call her dealings with Michael Baldwin as a relationship, exactly!!!! My memory is a bit foggy….He was a perv, wasn’t he? Now he’s one of the good guys? Ha!!
I am soooooo feeling nostalgic for those days….. weepy!!

Michael was a creep, a good guy and now a GHOST!

Celia

Right, My T?…does a fiend really change so drastically?
However, it is a soap….and, yeah; where are Michael and Lauren?….it’s like “Phake”-Phyllis is acting as Lauren’s ambassador these days. She is one of the dominatrices on the show and beyond…..FakeBilly is not even close to Billy Miller’s gambling persona; no matter how much he tries….
I’m awaiting for him and Summer to tumble onto the proverbial ‘sex in the hay’, except that the hay will also be fake….incendiary, soooo, all smoke!!
Me no like!! Everything about this gambling thing is flat, been there, done that. Not interested or interesting.

I know Scott, right? Negative Nancy and Debbie Downer all into one. LOL…..I need uplifting here….
Did you see today’s episode? I had touched upon the fact that I had heard Hilary was going ‘out’ with a melodramatic bang…..but, I was hoping it would not be true…
….awful finish…..more and more I am being sunk within the Y&R doldrums…oh, shucks!!
By the by, is the network allowed to use the words “Summer in the City”? If you noticed, the phrase appeared on GC Buzz. Isn’t that a song by The Lovin’ Spoonful? Isn’t that plagiarizing? Does it apply? I always thought it was a no-no.
I make an effort to instruct my students to use quotations on “borrowed” material…..no matter the length.

HaHa, Joe. Too funny.

Alan

The whole Mission Impossible mask bit is soooooooo not Y&R’s style and Nick doing this is completely out of character as he would never do anything to cause beloved big sis Victoria anxiety over the possible return of her abusive ex.

Celia
Celia

Tell me about it, Alan…..as I said on the other thread, I expected Faison to turn the corner.
Also, I don’ t know how much more of Nikki’s living-on-another-planet-behavior I can take.
Here is a mother who is so incensed over what her son did ( Gee, like father like son much?), yet is deaf and dumb when it comes to Victor.
I don’t know….perhaps, it is just I? I doubt it…..to a mother, her kids come first….before all others, includingn her spouse…..except for Nikki. Ha! Pathetic mothering….always was, always will be. For a NY minute, when she clocked JT to protect Victoria, I thought; ‘yeah, good for you, Nikki’, but, NAH, she is beyond pathetic.
On another note…I take it the baby Hilary is carrying is not Devon’s? Why the subterfuge with the sexy “guest” then?
Hmmmm, sperm donor, mayhap??
Also, I have said this a few times that Mishael must be pregnant in real life, at least a couple of months ago….or trying….finally, the little bump reared its adorable head.
Why else would TPTB be trying so hard —making a big deal, rather, in getting her pregnant on the show?
I heard it through the grapevine that Mishael is, indeed, expecting her second child?
I don’t like the way ‘they’ are ‘making’ her leave—-if true. We shall see.

I was never a fan when General Hospital concocted these stupid masquerading storylines with masks, and I am still not a fan. SO. STUPID. NO. THANKS. Also, the “love” scene between Ashley and Neil was so awkward and forced-embarrassing to watch.

damien
damien

the only people blindsided were the viewers who actually thought this storyline would go somewhere!
..totally lame. what a waste of time.Victor vs his son 3.0, Along with Billys gambling 3.0, Hilary and devon 3.0 , mariah and tessa 3.0, Paternity undoing of a legacy character 3.0….
damn. ANYTHING EXCITING OR WORTH WATCHING ON THIS SHOW ANYMORE? this show revolves around 4 boring dragged on storys with the same 8 characters like c’mon!.. we need Jill back, Lauren, Michael, Paul,Christine more Kyle, Mariah, nuNate and younger characters for the summer.
End the J.T murder mystery and the current regimes murdering of this iconic soap.

dmr
dmr

You are SO right, Damien! I think I fast-forwarded thru most of yesterday’s show. Billy’s storyline is atrocious. Kyle setting-up Mariah and Tessa is not a storyline that I am interested in seeing (and watching Devon pretending to act and set them up was cringe-worthy. He can’t act period). Lily acting as though her children have a bigger stake in Devon’s company, than his own offspring, is so funny. I think she is one of the dumbest characters EVER to appear on daytime television.

Celia
Celia

Yeah, damien. …said the same thing. The repetition turns the viscera. But, I was surprised!! I actually thought it was really JT….I wished it, so that I didn’t have to deal or listen to those four hens clucking and squawking every single day!!!! Wide-eyed with oh-my-we-are-doomed…

k/kay

Apologize to everybody who guessed this I thought Y& R would never stoop to such nonsense. A friend told me that got a Sony question in the mail about food or talk shows ! I have no idea but I think they might be on thin ice. They have froze salaries that’s why they lost Ed& Mm. Crazy

Harry
Harry

It’s disappointing. I really hate that Nikki accidentally killed JT and then those four idiots decided to cover it up and bury his body rather than do the right and rational thing–call the damn police.
I hate that JT is dead and died as a one dimensional villain. JT was a complex guy and I would have liked him to undergo therapy to figure out why a once heroic man, turned into an abuser of women. And no, not to EXCUSE his behavior, but to EXPLAIN it.
I still hold out hope that JT is alive. He had a heart condition which could be used to explain why those four idiots found no pulse.

Latonia Franklin

I loved it,but I really hate to see Father and Son fighting against each other! I was really hoping it was JT coming back, because I don’t think he’s really dead!Father and Son fighting takes the fun out of it!

Mister Media

This would have been more compelling if Victor had shown any reaction at all. I didn’t see a “shocked” Victor. Maybe Eric Braeden thought it was a travesty and threw away his performance in protest? Not even so much as a “well I’ll be damned”. I hoped that he would end the scene by shouting. “Now get out of my alley! You got that?”

Celia

Whoa, Mister Media!!! You’ve got Victor down pat. I love it!!
I don’t remember a time when these two weren’t at each others’ throats…..part of the ‘decor’, right?!

I thought I had seen it all the day Jordan arrived on a crime scene wearing high heels. The nice clothes she wore were ok with me but the footwear bothered me because I don’t think anyone needs to look glamorous if that someone works in a police department.

Well, Nick did have to grow a set BUT to me its a way to TRY and fill a void missing on the show, ADAM! I dont buy this at all!

My comment was deleted after the website had issues today, so I am resubmitting it
In another writer’s hands this might have worked– the “good” son pushed beyond his limits to seek revenge on his father then slowly descends down the same path that will eventually turn him into the very thing he hated — his father– very Shakespearean— but with Mal’s style of writing, it will be a tragedy but not in the good sense of the word. I wish it was Adam under that JT mask- because frankly the show has never been same without him. JH was good but there has to other talented actors out there who could take over the role, if MM is forever to be banished–yet with Mal writing style, if Adam was on the show, he would just destroy that character like he has been slowly butchering all the characters since he took over as head writer.

Celia

It wasn’t deleted, Mary….it was crossed….you can find it on one of the GH threads. I forgot which….
I actually commented on the mix-up. Some of our other comments appear there , as well. I thought it was only happening to me.

It’s time the Nick character to fight back to victor as he has gotten away with too much. In real life one would never get away with all the dirt and mean things this Victor character had gotten away with. Want to see Nick and Sharon stay together and not let the over dramatizing Phyllis get her claws on him. Some of it these days are so boring wish things could happen to make it exciting Sooner. Let’s see what happens in the near future

I am sorry, but it was sooooo ridiculous. C’mon Mal Young, Y&R fans deserve better than this. Y&R is not GH or DOOL the Jim Reilly years. It just didn’t work. On another note, when will Billy stop being the town screw up? You know he will put Jabot in jeopardy and Jack will swoop in and save the company, which will bring about the departure of Eileen Davidson/Ashley in September. This was once my must watch show, but I can”t say that anymore.

ahaa!
My man Victor will Destroy Nick..
Victor now can have Christen taken from Nick if he wants to.
And, when Sharon is known to have taken part of covering up a murder, well Christian is sure to have another home.

Nick is no Adam.
Nick did a cyber crime, it was nothing much to get files and release them and there is not much game to that.
Adam was a challenge for Victor but not Nick, Victor will destroy him, wait for it.

Celia
Celia

But why, SuzieQ? Victor is propelled in doing what he does by selfish ego. Not love. Does he not realize it’s wrong??…Nick loves Christian as a parent should, regardless of his DNA.
Victor is obsessed and possessed. He treats his family members as puppets and possessions. There comes a time when children do rebel…..
Look at Victoria and Nick. Victoria is all in for the money…..that was the first thing she asked her father—-commanded, rather….very disappointed in her. Always liked her….hmmmm….
By the same token, Nick and Abby are not driven by money but for the greater good.
And Nikki? She should get on her knees and beg God for forgiveness, turning her back on her son. In my book, that’s sacrilegious.
I can’t see how anyone can derive such satisfaction by hoping for a father to quash his child’s endevors, dreams….whatever, su. That’s love? Are you a mother? LOL.
Victor has one foot in the grave. He should find some Rosary beads and start praying, snake that he is.
But, hey, I do love Eric—he’s an excellent family man, loving husband, father, and grandfather.
I, especially, love that little thing he does by raising his brow during the show’s intro. Very endearing to me.

OK…you know what: Nick ‘masquerading’ as J.T. is further proof that Nick is nothing but a clueless and drooling IDIOT!!!!! I am now starting to root for Victor…which truly SICKENS ME…lol. BEYOND YUCK!!!!!

General Hospital

GH’s Steve Burton and Maurice Benard Deliver “The Power Performance of the Week”

Last week, as General Hospital aired the final episodes they had in the can, prior to the coronavirus TV production shutdown, viewers of the series were left with a one-two punch of gut-wrenching performances from Daytime Emmy winners, Steve Burton (Jason) and Maurice Benard (Sonny)

Burton, also received great news last week, when he found out he was again Emmy-nominated in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, while Benard, told fans he did not submit himself in the competition this year, when they were wondering where his name was in the list of the finalists in the category.  However, Maurice won last year for the second time in his career, for Outstanding Lead Actor.

Now on last Tuesday and Wednesday’s episode of the ABC daytime drama series, Jason was trying his best to break it to Sonny that Sonny’s dad, Mike (Max Gail) is not going to get any better as he continues to decline from Alzheimer’s disease, and that Mike is waiting for Sonny to let him go.  Sonny is devastated sitting with Mike watching him being completely unresponsive.  He tell Mike he will be back to see him tomorrow, as he leaves Mike reaches out his hand slowly.

Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) has just told Jason that she believes the signs are all there that Mike is on his final decline and battle with Alzheimers. Mike is unresponsive, not eating. and slipping away quickly. She believes he wants to let go, but is holding on for Sonny’s sake, something that tears through Jason.  Knowing Jason was told something by Elizabeth, Sonny asks what it is.  That is when Jason tells Sonny he thinks Mike is waiting for Sonny to let him go.

An overcome Sonny tells Jason that he worries that Mike might still want to fight, but for what? He is a shell of himself and has no memories.  It is then that Burton as Jason, in a touching performance, tells Sonny what he’d want if he were in Mike’s place. Jason reflect that he wouldn’t want machines keeping him alive or his kids having to go through what Sonny is having to deal with right now   Jason goes on to say that even when Sonny put walls up between himself and Mike through the years, that Mike never stopped trying to break them down.

Photo:ABC

Once Jason leaves, with tears running down his cheeks, Sonny sits with Mike trying to come to terms with what he must do now.  Will Sonny let Mike die and spare his father any further misery … or will he try to prolong whatever time Mike has left?

ABC and PEOPLE’s ‘The Story of Soaps’: What Was Your Review Of It?

Tuesday’s night airing of ABC and PEOPLE’s two-hour special The Story of Soaps featured many notable daytime and primetime soap stars, past and present, clips from backstage to classic memorable moments, and some participants who were providing commentary on the erosion of the daytime soaps in our culture.  Still others, maintained and realized that everything today is serialized from the news we watch, to some of Netflix’s most binge-watchable series, and of course, the birth of reality-programming.

Throughout the airing of the special, The Story of Soaps was trending on Twitter and social media either at the #2, #3 or #4 spots for the entire duration of the broadcast presentation, and the cancelled and beloved All My Children was also at one point trending.

However, known soap writers, journalists, ardent fans, and actors of the genre, were all on Twitter last night live-tweeting their thoughts as the special went down, and there was definitely mixed reactions and reviews, when all was said and done.

What the special did not shy away from, but tackled, was Luke’s rape of Laura at the campus disco on General Hospital. and how that moment now, as Genie Francis (Laura), so eloquently put, would be considered as ‘date rape’ in our culture.  The series even included a pivotal moment where Laura addresses Luke (Tony Geary) about the rape years later, after helping Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) through her rape ordeal.

John Stamos (Ex-Blackie Parrish, GH) got a bevy of “Right On’s!” for his comment that the soaps do not get the credit that they deserve and clearly came through as one of the soaps greatest supporters, as did former The Doctors and Knots Landing star, Alec Baldwin.

However, throughout the two-hours, Andy Cohen’s commentary was thread throughout; mostly citing soap’s demise and the creation of reality-programming and his “Real Housewives” franchise, that the special touted as the new soap operas.  It continued on the narrative that people preferred to see real-life drama then made-up drama on a fictional soap.  And while, that has been a trend in American culture for decades, the commentary came off as often out of place in a celebration of the soaps; and bringing in a lot of negativity to the special that soap fans were tired of hearing.

DYNASTY Season Three Finale: A Stripper & Sammy Jo and Alexis & Jeff Bring The Heat; While Adam's Past Comes Back To Bite Him

In a lighting rod moment, Cohen stated: “I know Susan Lucci doesn’t agree with me, but I think that the Housewives have replaced soap operas because truth is stranger than fiction. Soaps became kind of unnecessary because you could do it with real people, and they’re writing the drama themselves.”

The special did also address the cancellations of All My Children and One Life to Live, (which many were not sure they were going to do – given this special was airing on ABC), where One Life’s leading lady and six-time Daytime Emmy winner, Erika Slezak (Ex-Viki) said what we all wanted to sa ywhen the ax fell on the towns of Llanview and Pine Valley, “People were horrified”.

Clearly, OJ Simpson and his murder trial and reality-programming were also given a chunk of time to show where the once mighty landscape of daytime soaps which once had 13 shows on the air, dwindled town to 4.  But, it would have been nice to see more time spent on how in this day and age, the people in this current landscape of the genre work so hard to get episodes done at an unbelievable pace, and how in that climate the performers still deliver gut-wrenching performances.

Photo: ABC

Former Loving, OLTL and Breaking Bad star, Bryan Cranston, did point out how the once powerful soaps, just don’t have the dollars they used to, and need to, to help with production costs and their taping schedule.

Viewers were reminded of soaps’ socially relevant storylines including hankie-inducing moments from: Robin (Kimberly McCullough) and Stone’s (Michael Sutton) HIV/AIDS storyline on General Hospital, to Billy Douglas being a gay teen coming out on One Life to Live, played by a young Ryan Phillippe.

There also did not seem time spent on the contributions of William J. Bell; one of the most prominent writers of the soap genre of all-time.

For many commenting on social media last night, there seemed to be a feeling of some glaring omissions of participants who could speak on this genre, who have been in the trenches as soap producers, soap writers, pundits, actors, and more, who were not included in the special.

So, what was your review of The Story of Soaps? How would you grade it? Do you feel it accurately reflected the history of the genre?  Were you happily surprised,  or when it came to the end where you over it, or somewhere in between? Sound off in the comment section below.  Below are some tweets from notables who have worked as an actor, a writer, and a journalist in the soaps.

DAYS Stacy Haiduk and Linsey Godfrey Deliver ‘The Power Performance of the Week’

Fans of Days of our Lives knew when the mother of all showdowns was going to go down, it would be the payoff they had waited for – the rightful bio-mom would finally hold her baby in her arms!

In emotional and top-notch performances from Stacy Haiduk (Kristen) and Linsey Godfrey (Sarah), Kristen finally comes face-to-face with baby Rachel, who Sarah had kidnapped, although Sarah believed for so long that she was raising her daughter, MacKenzie.   When she learned the bombshell truth, that the child was not hers and that her baby died, she took off with the little one to Europe.

On last Tuesday’s episode, an overwrought and pissed Kristen tells Sarah: “Where the hell do you think you’re going with my baby?”  Sarah calls the child her daughter.  Trying to reason with her Kristen knows Sarah loves Rachel.  Then, Sarah goes on how she was there from the beginning and helped the baby through cancer.  Kristen knows and appreciates that, but also says it should have been her that was doing all of that, and all of those moments and more were stolen from her.

Sarah calls out Kristen and says she is incapable of being a good mother. Cornered Sarah says she will scream if Kristen tries to take Rachel out of her arms.  Kristen relates that her baby is alive and she’s so very sorry that her joy is Sarah’s mourning. Kristen truly thanks Sarah for everything she’s done the entire time to raise her little girl,  But, she asks Sarah to please hand over her child.  Sobbing, Sarah finally does just that.

Next, Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Xander (Paul Telfer) show up at the scene, and for the first time, Brady and Kristen hold their daughter. Their joy turns to more sorrow when they realize Kristen can never go back to Salem. If she does, she will be sent to prison for stabbing Victor (John Aniston).   When Brady agrees to disappear with her, Kristen won’t  let him do that.  Brady says that if he has to let her go to protect her and their child, he will step aside.  In another heartbreaking moment, Brady tells Rachel he loves her and says his heart will be with her, always.  Kristen promises to give her the life she deserves and the two say goodbye!

Later, Sarah returns to Abigail and Chad’s apartment where she tells Rex (Kyle Lowder) what happened and that she handed over the baby. She cries as Rex holds her as Xander (Paul Telfer) arrives, and Sarah is not-to-pleased to see him!

All complex emotional scenes, that is why Michael Fairman TV names Stacy and Linsey are Power Performances of the Week.  Let us know what you thought of their big scenes via the comment section below.
