Olivia is coming back to Genoa City for awhile and that means the return of Tonya Lee Williams to The Young and the Restless. The actress, in a new online interview today discussed Olivia having been severely underused and missed by fans. Williams spoke from  her hometown of Toronto, Ontario Canada for the film festival she created… The 10th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival. Topics of conversation turned to her thoughts on the new Malcolm, Darius McCrary and shaking up the African-American storylines on the show.   Here are some excerpts below!

Tonya Lee on working with the new Malcolm, Darius McCrary: “I had a couple of scenes with him and I thought he was wonderful. I like the fact that they’ve gone completely opposite. I think it would have been impossible to get someone that was like Shemar [Moore; ex-Malcolm] because there’s no one else like Shemar. What Maria likes to remind me is that she went back to the original bible and Bill [Bell; the show’s creator and former head writer] had always wanted the character to be “this” kind of character. But then Shemar came on the scene and he just went with “that.” But this is originally how the character was meant to be written. To be almost like the Nathan character. A really rough and tough character so when Shemar started the role, it was clear that he was not going to be that kind of character, so they just wrote for him. I think it’ll be interesting. I definitely saw a great scene between [Malcolm] and Neil (Kristoff St. John). I think he’s a strong actor and it’s hard to step into shoes like that. ”

Tonya Lee on bringing back more black characters to the Genoa City canvas: There’s so many characters that they could bring back. I think if the fans got vocal about it, they’d do a lot more about it. I said to her [Maria Bell] that I hope I don’t play in-between the two  brothers again [a triangle with Neil and Malcolm]. I’ve done that to death, so let’s not go there.”

Olivia is one of the most boring characters ever.

When she got involved w/ Brad while Ashley was going thru chemo, the character was pretty much done.

I can’t believe MAB actually told her “I want to get that BLACK storyline pumping.” She is so out of touch w/ reality, but since she’s a Bell, the soap media does not trash her like they do w/ Goutman or Wheeler or McTavish or Pratt or even Frons.

No one has even gone after MAB for writing out Philip, the botched gay storyline, Adam’s botched bisexuality, no more Rafe and all the crazy casting choices.

I can’t believe she wants Aunt Mamie back, but no mentioning of her wanting Dru back!
