This past Saturday, Shay Mitchell, Ian Harding and Ashley Benson of Pretty Little Liars presented the award for the Outstanding Daily Drama category at the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco.  Chandler Massey and Freddie Smith who portray Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis, the two openly gay characters on Days of Our Lives accepted the award on behalf of the NBC soap.

On accepting the award, Chandler Massey said, “Hopefully sometime soon playing a gay character on a soap opera will be kind of a non-event.  Well maybe not like a complete non-event but it will be as big of a deal as, I don’t know, faking your own death, or getting possessed by the devil, or finding out you’re a robot, or something like that.”

Watch the video after the jump of Chandler and Freddie receiving The GLAAD Media Award on behalf of DAYS. The awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives.

2 minute clip, and 1 minute was useless.

Ashley Benson presenting was nice, since she was Abby on DAYS.

But to the real news, those boys are adorable out there! They should win and accept more awards (together and separately lol)….and they no doubt will 😉

LOL! I love Chandler but he totally tried to hog the mic!!!! Glad Freddie interrupted Chandler so he could get a word in! I hope Chandler isn’t getting too cocky and selfish with all of the attention he’s received recently! Chandler is young though, but I hope the “fame” doesn’t get to him.
I love Chandler & hope he stays on Days for as long as the show is on! Such an amazing actor!
Love Freddie too!

Chandler’s definitely gone Hollywood in terms of his grooming/ coiff, but still seems down-to-earth in his interviews. All told, if he continues as Will on Days to the point where Will is married to Sonny and rearing Will’s daughter, he will have had a profound influence on gay representations on TV, and he clearly puts everything into his performances. He will become more and more loved as an actor, I think. Quite simply, Chandler is the complete package.

OH! BUT sooo proud of Days for doing the gay storyline! Chandler has been amazing! And as Chandler said, hopefully a gay story won’t be such an “event” in the future. I love Days and Will is one of my fave characters! Chandler is one of my fave Days actors, along with James Scott & Ali Sweeney!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2020 marks the final appearance of Kristian Alfonso’s iconic run as Hope Williams on NBC’s Days of our Lives, a role she played on and off for more than 37 years.  Make no mistake about it, Alfonso was a staple of Salem and the DAYS family since she made her debut back in 1983.
