The TV Academy is currently weighing it’s options on how best to present its upcoming 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC in September, given the pandemic of the coronavirus and how it has effected scheduled and planned live events with people and attendees in close proximity.

According to Deadline, the Creative Arts Emmys scheduled for September 12th and 13th will now be presented virtually in dates to be announced in September.

The annual Governors Balls that follow those shows, as well as the Primetime Emmys on September 20, are being cancelled for the first time in history. In it’s place the the TV Academy is making a $1 million  donation to The Actors Fund COVID-19 Relief Fund.

Now as for the actual main broadcast, ABC is said to be “working with the academy to find the best solution. Discussions regarding the look and feel of the show, and whether it too will go the virtual route, are still ongoing but you can bet it will be a far different  event than we have seen in recent years.”

As daytime fans know, NATAS is holding their 47th Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony virtually to air for the first time in years on network television.  CBS will be broadcasting the show on June 26th beginning at 8 p. m. EST.
