Y&R Casting Younger Leading Role of Ally! What Are Your Casting Suggestions?
News today out of Soap Opera Digest has The Young and the Restless casting another character! And this time, it is for a young woman in her early to mid 20’s!
According to SOD, “Y&R is looking for a “strong”, preferably brunette actress to play Ally, in what will be a lead role. The character is 20-24 years old and described as “sweet, lovely, and eager to begin her path.” The role begins shooting immediately.”
So based on the casting breakdown: what actresses who has appeared on soaps before, or who you have seen on primetime television, do you think might be a good fit for Ally?
Who do you think Ally is, and related to on the Genoa City canvas, if anyone? Are you among the fans that feel that Y&R has to many characters on the canvas that are newbies or veterans, who already under-utilized or non-existent in current storylines? Comment below!
I’m hoping she might be a recast. And yes, I’m one of those fans who thinks there are way too many newbies who have way too much airtime.
Time moves on..
Out with ”some” of the old in with the new..
It gives new stories and keeps thing fresh..
Phelps and Griffith have gotten rid of at least one-third of the show’s cast since their arrival, and at first I could buy that it was under the guise of getting back to core family stories. But then they dragged in a whole host of new faces. Aside from Hunter King as Summer, not a one of them has taken off. Okay, Chavez is decent but the actor remains on recurring. Michael and Lauren were finally given a storyline, but at what cost? The show is simply painful to watch, with storylines that are dull, uninteresting, or simply far-fetched. And did anyone else notice the completely awkward interaction between Victor and Noah the other day? I wasn’t expecting a warm, grandfatherly scene–that wouldn’t befit The Black Knight anyway–but it was clear that the two characters so rarely interact, and Noah has been so frequently recast, that any credibility it shot. Don’t get me started on the Rose storyline. Poor Kristoff St. John deserves better than, well, anything he’s getting.
I fully agree with everything you said. I thought that Phelps and Griffith would jolt Y&R with the spark it needed, but so far, the new regime has disappointed me. Kyle was completely miscast with Hartley Sawyer. Melissa Ordway is an okay actress, but Marcy Rylan was MUCH better as Abby. Carmine is creepy and Marco Dapper is an awful actor, as is Mishael Morgan (Hillary). In fact, the whole Rose storyline is ridiculous, and the only way I feel it can be saved is if Hilary turns out to be Drucilla’s long-lost daughter and Dru is brought back (I love Victoria Rowell). I like Erin Chambers (Melanie) as an actress, but her character is completely pointless and was only used as a plot devise to keep everyone hating Adam. Leslie and Tyler are equally as useless, and Redaric Williams is getting on my last nerve; get rid of them both! Ignacio Serricchio (Alex) is good, and I like Hunter King (Summer). Dylan as a character is a bit of a snooze, but Steve Burton is a fantastic actor, and I know he can play pretty much everything (too bad he’s getting suckered by Chelsea and her not-so-McAvoy-baby!)
The sad thing is that all of this was at the cost of Genie Francis, Tristan Rogers, Stephen Nichols, Michael Graziadei, Marcy Rylan and Blake Hood, who I wish were ALL back on screen, rather than who we have now. Michelle Stafford recently left as well, and Y&R will probably add to their list of recasts with Phyllis, as she is a vital character (hopefully it’s with Robin Christopher).
I’m tired of the vets getting the boot for all of these new characters that mean nothing. Phelps and Griffith really need to shape things up, because I’m getting very fed up with the state Y&R is in these days.
I too was hopefully last year when the new team took over– and I think the day to day dialogue is better than before. And I don’t mind the new faces– because the truth is even if the vets were on screen without a decent story line it would be just as bad. I use to love Vicky and Billy, but now both of them are a shadow of what they were because the story there were given is just blah. Same with Nick– all gooey eyes over Avery. And Avery and Dylan wouldn’t be so bad if they were portrayed as so damn perfect– come on– give them some flaws, some depth. Right now I rather see the newbies get their characters assassinated rather see my old favorites get that treatment.
I am assuming this character is meant to be a love interest for Noah– but why the name Ally? It sounds too much like Abby– and the girl who left Arianna—I mean can’t the writers go past the A’s in the Baby Naming Book in order to come up with a new character name?
This show is having trouble at the moment writing for the characters they do have, adding a new one isn’t going to help that. But I will give her a shot– all characters started off as the new kid on the block at one time– but adding so many at once isn’t the way to do it.
STOP with the new characters!!!!!!!! Not a lick of ’em add up to a Phyllis, Katherine, Tucker, Ronan, Nina or the existing characters who are being terribly wasted: Victor, Nikki, Kevin, Jill or Paul. Youth doesn’t equal interesting!
I have to agree, without Phyllis the Y &R will not be the same.
Whoever Ally may be, I hope she is a love interest for Noah. And on the topic of newbies, Steve Burton as Dylan is an epic fail. The second I heard he was being cast as Avery‘s ex, I knew the role was doomed. It doesn‘t matter that he is an Emmy award winning and popular actor. When you bring someone like that on, you have to give them a character, a story, and tie them to established characters. As it stands, Dylan is nothing but a dim witted dupe for Chelsea. The sho no doubt jumped through hoops to hire him, and it is a shame they didn‘t plan a fleshed out, well developed character.
I have to agree Jem.
Steve Burton is a huge talent – what a waste !!
TPTB crapped out this character and for me his screen time is like watching paint dry.
Don’t even get me started on the whole Rose storyline.
All I can say is they better do Katherine Chancellor’s death justice. They blow that story and I think I’ll be done with Y&R.
I am sure Jill will cast Brittney Underwood.
Oh, please, tell me this is a recast for Abby!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
the only reason I wouldn’t want it to be a recast Abby is because there are too many recasts already, I think they should let Melissa Ordway keep the role and see if she shines in it, at least for a little while longer. Don’t get me wrong, Marcy Rylan was 1000 times better, but I couldn’t handle another recast.
I’d like to see someone new, not a recycled soap actress, but a new never seen before actress as the Ally character..
Starting to get bored with soaps recycling actors from one soap to another, time for someone new!!!
I would love to see a recast for Phyllis, she is a much needed character, it may be hard to replace the actor. Rebecca Buddig would be my choice for the new character Ally…..
Rebecca Buddig is too old for the role. She’s in her early to mid 30’s by now.
For those that are fed up with all of the newbies and the direction of the show, I have just the thing to help what ails you! A friend of mine from San Diego and I have started up a campaign to rid the show of Jill Farren Phelps and Josh Griffith! Our Facebook page is called, “Save YoungRestless” and our twitter account is, @saveyrtoday. If you have both FB and twitter, please join us. Let’s get this campaign underway and let Angelica McDaniel (CBS Daytime Chief) and Steve Kent (Sony Pictures) know that we as the fans of Y&R are tired of the newbies and the sad, sorry state of affairs that are taking place at Y&R. It’s time to stop this madness before the show ends up being canceled! I don’t care what CBS chief Les Moonves says about the shows being profitable and all, without the fans watching, the show will be canceled and he is delusional to think that we as the fans will stick around and watch this crap that’s being put out day after day, week after week. It’s gotta end sometime and we might as well be the one’s to do it!
I don’t want Phyllis recast when the original one was perfect. Get her back.
Julie Marie Berman should get the role. Come on, she’s a 3 time Emmy winner!!!!
How about Brittany UNderwood from OLTL and Hollywood Heights.
ive recently tuned in to y and r again just to see the catherine chancellor ending,,i stopped when genie francis was let go,,omg…i cant sit through this crap,,,and i do mean crap,,if this show isnt cancelled in the next 2 years ill be shocked,,-it is just terrible,,,stories about new characters that no one gives a dam about,,,all the pros back burnered to a mere few lines,,so disrespectfull to the actors that have put in there hearts and souls to this industry..jill pharon phelps ,,you should hang your head in shame….you destroyed this once pulsating daytime drama,,,thank god for pvrs,,,sorry but i just cant hang in for the catherine funeral..its just that bad,,
First, Avery, Dylan, and Stitch……..then Hillary, Melanie and now Ally???? Enough with the newbies!!!! JFP kills every show she’s involved with!!!! Why don’t they bring back Ed Scott and Kay Alden??? Those were the glory days!!!! Bill Bell must be so sad!!!!!!! Sharon is pitiful and Michelle Stafford jumped ship!!! She’s knows YEAR is sinking!!!!!!!!!!!
Ed Scott and Kay Alden are my first choices to take over and right this ship! I was willing to give Jill Farren Phelps the benefit of the doubt, but no more! I’ve had it up to here with the crap she’s doling out and Josh Griffith has to take some of the blame here too. But yes, too many newbies and too many actors taking over roles that they never should have been hired for. Robert Adamson (Noah) has been completely wasted. Redaric Williams (Tyler) is a complete jerk (I’ve witnessed it first hand on twitter, trust me). I don’t care how much of a piece of eye candy he is, he is just not a good actor at all. I am not at all surprised that Michelle Stafford left the show. She didn’t like what was going on and she’d had enough. Next in line to go if something isn’t done will be Sharon Case (Sharon Newman). I’m sure that Sharon is tired of being handed the drivel that’s been handed and having to turn that shizz into gold. Backburnering Melody Thomas Scott and Eric Braeden has me pulling what little hair I have left out of my head. Ugh! I could go on and on and on. But I know you all get where I’m coming from. I can’t remember the last time I watched a full episode of Y&R. That’s how bad it is.
Sounds like more backstage drama at Y&R with Josh & Jill a must read article
I so agree with everyone’s comments that are critical of the show lately with new story lines, new younger actors, some who struggle even ‘saying’ their lines. Short dialogue for the veterans, no depth to interactions.
Question: What would it take to get Phelps out and a executive producer who can FIX the mess she’s crated. Someone tell me, please?
Maybe Frank Valentini can take a break from GH and come to Y&R to clean stuff up the way he did over there? That’s probably wishful thinking and it would never happen, but Frank and Ron Carlivati are THE dream team. The way they shaped up GH after (coincidentally) Jill Farren Phelps was ousted (I wonder why…) is all shades of brilliant.
I hope that she is a new girlfriend for Noah.
Please suggest HEIDI MUELLER (Ex-Kay Passions) for this role, I think it would be a good choice
Another newbie… what is JFP doing to this show? Honestly, it was good for a little while after she and Josh Griffith took over (Jack’s pill abuse & rehab story were supreme), but now, I can barely stand to watch the show.
I hope this character is a new love interest for Noah, because Robert Adamson’s talents are being wasted right now. Brittany Underwood comes to mind as a possibility. But honestly, enough with the newbies! Get rid of Redaric Williams (Tyler), Lamon Archey (Mason), Angell Conwell (Leslie), Erin Chambers (Melanie), Mishael Morgan (Hillary), Hartley Sawyer (Kyle) and Marco Dapper (Carmine).
Melissa Ordway (Abby) is doing an okay job as Abby, though I MUCH prefer Marcy Rylan, but that won’t happen since she realizes Y&R was a sinking ship and jumped aboard GH. Steve Burton (Dylan) is a fantastic actor, but his talents are being wasted on the bore-fest that is Dylan.
Personally, I miss Rylan, Genie Francis, Tristan Rogers, Eileen Davidson and Stephen Nichols the most. Now Michelle Stafford is gone too… If this regime continues along the path they’re on, that statement by Les Moonves, saying that “Y&R will be on for a very, very long time” will be null and void pretty soon.
In two words….who cares? JFP and her team of untrained writing monkeys are killing Y&R deader than a doornail.
Instead of yet another newbie, how about using some of the talent already on screen?
Nah, that wouldn’t alienate enough viewers…….JFP, Soap Killer Extrodinaire!
Another newbie, no surprise and last thing YR needs right now…UGH! Not interested in another new face eating up more air time from the real stars of YR! It’s for Noah of course…..YR is a big mess of manure right now…..sigh
The show does not need any more new blood UNLESS it is a new EP.
You summed up exactly what I was thinking in that sentence, I tip my hat off to you. JFP is ruining the Y&R that I used to enjoy. Sure, Maria Arena Bell was nowhere near perfect (some may say she was worse) but at least Jess Walton was on-contract, and veteran actors like Genie Francis, Tristan Rogers and Stephen Nichols were brought on, who can actually act! Now we have talentless “actors” in the forms of Redaric Williams, Lamon Archey, Mishael Morgan, Marco Dapper and Hartley Sawyer
It is unacceptable that a posting such as this have misspellings …….the show has “to” many new characters…….really?! TOO
Let me guess… Ally is a recast for MacKenzie (sp?). Who do they want to play Katherine’s granddaughter?
No, not Mac? Ok fine, sure…
Besides, whoever the new character is, it’s not going to be a Black, Hispanic or Asian. So it will be another character that will blend into the background.
Y&R – surprise me. Cast someone that’s Indian in a leading role. I mean it. Cast a person of Indian origin. At least try.
Sounds great….how about the Beautiful Indian girl that Played in Martin Lawrences…Like Father like son….She was BEAUTIFUL!!!
Well, for one thing with characters getting older and some moving on, some new people have to be introduced to the show.
The new Abby (not as good as the old one), but is doing much better at the part. Both Avery and Dylan are a decent characters. Summer is a good character. Should have kept Phyllis, Daniel, Tucker, and a couple of the other older characters. The previous actor that played Kyle was MUCH BETTER than the new one. Fenmore – WORST on the show!!!
Better story lines would definitely help the show.
I do not think that you guys should add anyone else to the equation right now they have alot going on with adam and chelsea im very upset that it hasnt come out yet
So we are getting a new 24 year old to play Ally…hmmm Im not sure who she could be….Maybe someone to stir up trouble With Summer and Kyle….Or Tyler and Abby….or a love interest for Mason would be nice….even tho i think Lily and Mason would work because i love Tyler and Abby…the idea of a Mixed Newman in the future is great….I have a very good suggestion….she isnt a brunette….but she could be willing to due Her hair…how about the old Phoebe from the Bold and the Beautiful….she was Georgeous!!!Those long Beautiful curls…angelic smile…thats if this role is long term!! The Young Lady who played Steffys twin….or bring STEFFY ON!!! Jacqueline MacInnes…is FANTASTIC….LOVE HER!!!&she would be great With Any Y&R man…Tyler…Mason….Adam….Love her…but if this Lady is for Kevin…Phoebe fits better! 😉
Her name is Mackenzie Mauzy….or bring Jacqueline MacInnes Wood!!…Wood love to see her With Tyler or Mason…bring both ladies!!!
The story lines are getting pretty dull for me. Right now the best and the worse one is Katherine’s good bye..
The one that I am getting really tired of is Sharon..and having her dead daughter back to make her go after Nick..I am so tired of Sharon..for the love of all soaps Paul run the prints on that stupid lipstick case and find out she did it and actually make her pay for something she has done…
I Think Ally will be Nikki’s daughter given up during her stripping days.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE 16,000th Episode?
