Y&R Poll: Which Arrival Or Return Are You Most Looking Forward To?

Photos: JPI Studios

The Young and the Restless is currently in reset mode bringing back popular fan favorite actors and characters and beefing up their cast.  The series recently won three Daytime Emmy Awards for scripts and shows under former executive producer and head writer, Mal Young, but who at the same time saw the ratings drop for the series, although it still remains strongly ahead of the other soaps at number one.

Now with Anthony Morina (EP) and Josh Griffith (Head Writer) steering the ship in Genoa City, the powers-that-be have already brought back: Doug Davidson (Paul), the new Adam in the form of actor Mark Grossman, plus Mishael Morgan (Ex-Hilary), who is now making appearances.  However, there are more favorites to come next month and into the summer.

Now, we ask you to cast your vote in our latest poll.  Which arrival or return are you looking forward to most?

There is Michelle Stafford’s major comeback as Phyllis, Greg Rikaart reprising his signature role as Kevin Fisher, the announcement of former All My Children and CSI:Miami star,  Eva LaRue, joining the cast as Rey and Lola’s mom, plus the return of Melissa Claire Egan as Chelsea. Perhaps, you are most excited about someone who has not been officially named to join the Genoa City canvas, or are hoping for another big acquisition, or blast from the past?

Let us know by voting below and tell us why you are most excited about seeing them back on Y&R in the comment section!

Chelsea and Kevin

All except Chelsea— liked her, neither as Annie (AMC), nor as Chelsea–not fond of this actress.
The best return is, of course, Michelle–the best arrival is Eva.
The picture would be complete if Billy M were to return!! Yeah, baby…..

I think Chelsea shot Adams

I agree, very unlikeable character (Chelsea).

I am really excited to see Kevin (Greg Rikaart) return as well as Michelle Stafford as Phyllis. Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) will be a welcome return. The Eva LaRue thing I sincerely couldn’t care less about. Now here’s what I’ve been thinking – silently so no one hears it – I am watching the character of Billy Abbott currently portrayed by Jason Thompson – who I have ZERO beef with – and I am feeling like he is on the way out. And here’s where it gets good — I really think Billy Miller could be on his way back. I don’t know where I’m getting this vibe but I truly have been feeling it. Amelia Heinle had such chemistry with Billy Miller. She hasn’t had that heat with anyone since. Billy Miller is honestly the only Billy Abbott. We have had the substitute teacher in long enough. Come on home Billy Miller. If Y&R is able to make that casting coup I will suffer through any Rosales character as long as the hotness that is Billy Miller is on my screen. C’mon it will be Christmas in a short while..Santa in case you’re reading this from your summer vacation in Jamaica..pretty please? I’ve been so good I swear..(well not really but I really want this) Had to speak it into being…

Please I liked him on Y&R as Billy but hate his character on GH and how they write for him.

I would love to have Billy Miller back, also.

All I can say and I know I am in the minority here, I am not looking forward to Greg Rikaart (Kevin) back…I have never been a fan of the character of Kevin…I don’t mind seeing the others return…

agree with you…

Love Y&R…plz put Nick & Sharon back together!!!

Not looking forward to Michelle Stafford at all. Melissa Claire Egan and Greg Rikaart are great! Eva La Rue, I don’t know but she looks the same age as Jordi…

None, U like them all, but I’m already feeling many of my favorites (Traci/Devon/Lauren/Michael/Jack get so little screen time, this will only add to the characters competing for focus.

Jack? He’s on the screen every time I turn on the TV. A matter of perspective, I guess, lol.

NOT Chelsea!

I’m not excited over any of those peoples return.
They are all reruns / been there done that.
(no big deal)
The only rerun that would excite me is–
Michael Muhney !

And that’s not happening so eeehhhh.

I agree that Michael Muhney should have returned! The new Adam is NOT that interesting or likeable whatsoever!

Michelle Stafford

I would have to say Ms.LaRue and Kevin, if he is the old Kevin and not a newer version and doesn’t bring Chloe with him.

Greg Rikaart for sure. Iffy on the others. I know it all business but I think Gina Tognoni got shafted so not over the top about Stafford’s return. And, it seems off that they would get rid of the character of Arturo just as they bring on his mother.

I quit watching YR when Chelsea left. I’m thrilled to have MCE returning. Curious to see Stafford reclaim the role she originated and love anything Eva la Rue does. All in all I’m very happy.

I am excited about Greg and Melissa coming back. I really liked Gina in the role of Phyllis, so I am NOT thrilled that Gina was let go, so Michelle could come back. Michelle plays the character too over-the-top. I liked Gina’s more nuanced, balanced portrayal. She is my all-time favorite Phyllis-regardless of Stafford originating the role. I know that Eva is a great actress, so I am willing to give her a chance. I wish they would back Robert Adamson(Noah), Judith Chapman(Gloria), and Billy Miller(Billy). I like Jason Thompson, but Billy M. is still my favorite Billy.

I voted Chelsea – I want to see Adam & Chelsea reunite. I also like the fact that Kevin w/b returning. While I was a fan of Michelle Stafford when she played Phyllis, I loved Gina T. from Day #1 – never have I accepted a recast so quickly, and she has become my favourite; not to mention the way she appeared to have been treated which infuriates me and which has coloured my thinking about seeing MS again.

As for ELR I know her from AMC – don’t like her; and certainly don’t know why they would bring a Rosales mother on when two of the clan have left. As for appearances, she looks younger than she is – although I’m assuming she w/b made to look like the Rosales mother, and Rey looks a bit older than he is – a weird choice of casting IMO and don’t look forward to her appearance at all. I can only hope it’s a short term gig, but haven’t read anything about that.

I assume Eva LaRue’s character will be Jack’s new woman.

Kevin n Chelsea. There is something “wrong” Abt the actress switch for PHYLLIS that is unfair. (Sorry, Michelle left cause she didn’t like it there so why does she get to come back when an excellent actress is ok as long her?)

Love Eva but too young to play Rey’s mom AND WHERE THE HELL WAS SHE WHEN HER DAUGHTER WAS DYING FOR A MONTH???!!!! Sorry… Just not wanting to see another Rosales.

Not watching young and restless anymore. Pushing lesbians, and the kissing is degusting. Not watching anymore

Here is hoping that Young and Restless has the good sense to hire Roger Howarth !! He would be a perfect match for Sharon !!!!!

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Dina was the on-screen mother to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

She returned to Genoa City for stints in 1991, 1996 and 2008 before being asked by then Y&R head writer-producer Sally Sussman to return in 2017, which would begin the top-rated daytime drama telling the story of Alzheimer’s disease. Speaking with Michael Fairman TV, Marla shared on her final scenes on Y&R when Dina passed away and was reunited with John Abbott, “It was heart-wrenching for me.  In the story, Dina died when she went outside and to the front door of the Abbott home.  They did not tell me before-hand, and that’s why it was so wonderful.  I hope they came in for a closeup of that because I had no makeup on, it was beautiful, and then, Dina said, “Oh, John.”  I’ve done everything from movies, to daytime, to nighttime, to Broadway, but that was the iconic moment for me, to do this gig with wonderful, wonderful actors and friends, and to do this particular storyline.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant. She also fondly remembered being the Miss Diamond Jubilee Queen during the 1954 celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ocean City’s founding.  A student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Adams appeared on Broadway in the 1958 production of The Visit at the Morosco Theatre with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and starred as June in the 1961 feature film, Splendor in the Grass

Over the span of her decades long career, Adams starred in more than 40 productions including television’s: The Golden Girls, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, The New Dick Van Dyke ShowHarry OAdam-12Starsky and HutchMarcus Welby, M.D.Barnaby Jones, and the feature film, Beneath the Leaves.

Y&R’s Allison Lanier Lands Her First Daytime Emmy Nomination and Shares “Being a Recast Can Be Daunting”

When the nominees were revealed for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series for the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, a fresh face was in the running for the first time as The Young and the Restless Allison Lanier (Summer Newman) scored her very first Emmy nod.

Lanier took over the highly-coveted role of Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) daughter from two-time Daytime Emmy-winner Hunter King, who won gold for this role in the now defunct Younger Actress in a Daytime Drama Series category.

During the Michael Fairman Channel’s 2024 Daytime Emmy Nominations Special on Friday night, April 19th, Allison was one of the nominated guests, who shared her reaction to the news that she was a first-time Emmy nominee earlier in the day.

Photo: JPI

When speaking of how challenging it can be to be a recast on a soap, and in particular on the top-rated drama, The Young and the Restless, Lanier filled us in how she dealt with it.

Photo: JPI

Allison related, “I’m decent at compartmentalizing, but yes, it was daunting. Being a recast is daunting. Going on a show, especially, one where we work the way that we do, that’s just daunting in and of itself. I do think that when you’re sort of having to follow in somebody’s footsteps, they’re (the audience) automatically going to compare you to somebody else. That’s daunting. But I do think that I was able to hold that was happening for me, but also I have to ignore that and I do have to make it my own thing, because we’re different people. We’re bringing different things to the character and that was really the only way forward for me.”

Photo: JPI

When speaking of the nominees along with her in the Supporting Actress category, of course, she is close with Y&R co-stat and fellow nominees, Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra): “I’m not as familiar with everybody from the other shows quite yet, but I can’t wait to get to know them and to see what they’re putting out there and watch their episodes and their scenes. However, I am so glad that Courtney Hope is nominated in this category. Her storyline was so heartbreaking and the way that her and Mark Grossman (Adam Newman) played that, it just like shot me straight in the heart.”

Photo: JPI

As far as what scenes were on her nominated-reel, Allison shared she first had a reel of 30-minutes in length, just to see how all the scenes played out she was considering, before whittling it down: “So, what ended up on my reel was Summer confronting Diane (Susan Walters) directly after the gala after Phyllis “died.”  It’s this kind of heartbreaking moment of anger mixed with pain and grief. I included the scene where Kyle (Michael Mealor) informed Summer that it is time for a divorce in her hotel suite. There was also one scene with Daniel (Michael Graziadei) after Summer knew Phyllis was alive, and I also had another scene with Michelle Stafford when Summer found out that her mother was alive.”

Now let us know, do you think Allison has made the part of Summer her own? Happy to see her nominated? Comment below.
