Y&R’s Eileen Davidson, Knots’ Donna Mills & GH’s Laura Wright Talk On Life in the Soaps

Three of the most recognizable names in the soap opera genre, Eileen Davidson (Y&R, Ex-Days, Ex-B&B, Ex-Santa Barbara). Donna Mills (Knots Landing, Ex-Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Ex-Secret Storm) and Laura Wright (General Hospital, Ex-Guiding Light, Ex-Loving, Ex-The City), chat with Michael Fairman in this virtual conversation about their careers working in front of the camera on daytime and primetime soaps.

Each of the actresses appear on ABC’s “The Story of Soaps” two-hour special airing on Tuesday night May 19th (9 p.m. EST). to which this interview is a prelude.

From her role as Abby Cunningham Ewing on Knots Landing to her role as GH’s Madeline Reeves, Donna Mills shares memorable stories from her career, and from her role as Y&R’s Ashley Abbott to playing five roles on Days of our Lives from Kristen DiMera to Susan Banks, Eileen Davidson recalls her start and the time she played five roles at one time, while bringing to life Carly Corinthos on General Hospital every day is a joy shares Laura Wright from her early start on ABC’s Loving which changed the trajectory of her life.

What a superb interview with three amazing women Michael! Thanks so much for this gem. As a lifelong fan of both Donna and Eileen you had me at go, but since I don’t watch GH what a wonderful introduction to the equally enchanting Laura Wright. The combined intelligence, talent, beauty, warmth and charm of these three superstars is magic. Falcon Crest’s Abby Dalton Dead at 88

Actress Abby Dalton best known to soap fans as Julia Cumson on the 80’s primetime soap opera, Falcon Crest passed away following a battle with a long illness.  She was 88-years-old.

According to the Hollywood Reporter,  Dalton died last week on November 23rd in Los Angeles,

On Falcon Crest, Dalton played the daughter to Jane Wyman’s Angela Channing and was the on-screen mother to another name familiar to soap audiences, Lorenzo Lamas (Ex-Lance, Falcon Crest, and Ex-Hector, The Bold and the Beautiful).

 

From 1981-1986, soap fans will recall that Julia turned out to be quite the murderer on Falcon Crest after being emotionally-damaged by her mother.  She was sent to prison, was institutionalized in a mental hospital, presumed dead, and eventually would up in a convent!

In addition, Dalton made an appearance on The Young and the Restless in 1995 as Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) mother, Lydia.

Dalton was also known for being a mainstay on several game shows from: The $25,000 PyramidPasswordMatch Game and Body Language.  She was also notable as a regular on the 60’s sitcoms,The Joey Bishop Show, and for her role as Calamity Jane in Hennesey.

Abby is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack D. Smith; her daughter, Kathleen Kinmont, sons Matthew and John; grandchildren Mac, Jack and Ayden Grace; and great-grandson Mathias.

Briana Lane Wraps Her Run As Brook Lynn On General Hospital

Monday’s episode of General Hospital brought with it the last episode of Briana Lane in the role of Brook Lynn Quartermaine. Lane took over the role while Amanda Setton was on maternity leave.

In story, Brook Lynn tells her father, Ned she needs some distance and is leaving town, so she is heading to Bensonhurst.  She tells Valentin, she is leaving Port Charles and he wishes her luck,  But hold the phone! After Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) exits Brook Lynn pulls out a pregnancy test!  Is she preggers with Valentin’s bi0-child?  Guess the story will play out when Amanda Setton returns.

Lane took to her Twitter account to thank the fans and GH for being part of the show even if it was short-lived, expressing: Last day on #GH Effortlessly talented captain of the ship @valentinifrank ,goddess  @lisalocicerogh, guiding light @wallykurth … still had tears in my eyes from Wally + I’s last scene as father + daughter. TY to everyone for all the sweet responses, goodbyes + wishes tonight!!”

Prior to that, Lane shared an additional message on her departure: “Playing the role of Brook Lynn Quartermaine on @GeneralHospital has been an absolute joy + honor. Feel lucky to have been surrounded by such a gifted cast, kind crew + passionate producers these past 4 months + it’s an experience that I will always hold close to my heart.  And HUGE thank you to all the fans who have been so welcoming to the new kid! Your support has meant the world. Passing the baton back to beautiful + mega talented Amanda Setton. Looking forward to watching what will definitely be a new and exciting chapter for BLQ!”

Tyler Christopher Shares “After a Near Death Experience … I’m Ready to Start Over Again and Get Back to Work”

Daytime Emmy winner, Tyler Christopher, took to his Instagram account to let his fans. former colleagues, and friends know that he is headed back to California to continue his acting career and get back to what he loves to do most – turn in those amazing performance that soap audiences have come to know during his runs as Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital and Stefan O DiMera on Days of our Lives.

In his post Christopher explained:Coming back to California. Miss you friends. After a near death experience in December, doesn’t matter. I’m ready to start over again and get back to work. Can’t wait to see you all!”

Tyler had moved to Indiana, and as had been reported he had struggles with his battles for sobriety, and ultimately his wife Brienne Pedrigo filed for divorce.

 

Now, turning the page and creating a new chapter in his life, Tyler is looking forward to being back in Hollywood, and his friends and co-stars are definitely rooting him on including: Greg Vaughan (Ex-Lucky, GH Ex-Eric, DAYS) who shared, “Let’s GO” while GH’s Maura West (Ava) sent him a comment full of hearts, and the former Steven Lars of GH, Scott Reeves, expressed, “Amen bro! Happy for you.”
