GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny, Carly, and Ava Learn Of Morgan's Death!

In an episode featuring heartbreaking performances from: Dominic Zamprogna (Dante), Maurice Benard (Sonny), Laura Wright (Carly) and Maura West (Ava), GH kicked in to high gear the drama following the car explosion that killed Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig).

The sequence of events looks on the surface to be botched hit on Julian Jerome (William deVry), since Morgan was apparently blown up and went over the cliff at Angel’s Bluff next to the car he stole that was Julian’s. The explosion was witnessed by Jason (Billy Miller). Earlier, Sonny had called off the hit on Jerome, so something went horribly amiss.

Dante was first on the scene following a call from Jason, and a devastated Dante learns his brother was just outside of the car before it exploded.  Julian happens upon the scene looking for his stolen vehicle.  Julian realizes there were no skid marks, and that there had to be a rigged explosion meant to kill him, but instead Morgan perished.  A reeling Dante tells Julian to stop talking … as he is trying to cope with what just befell his brother.

Next, Jason has to deliver the news to Sonny.  He arrives at the Corinthos’ home to tell Sonny there was an accident involving Morgan.   Sonny and Jason run to Angel’s Bluff, where Dante tell his father there is no sign of Morgan.  Sonny in disbelief, panic, and grief-stricken, decides to jump in the waters below the bluff to search for Morgan’s body.

Sonny can’t sustain himself in the water and the divers pull him out, because the current is so strong.  Next, Dante learns they have found remains enough to do a DNA test.   Sonny is taken home by Jason.

Meanwhile Jordan (Vinessa Antoine) shows Dante they have recovered Morgan’s phone with missed calls from his mother, and Kiki (Hayley Erin) who has been desperately trying to reach Morgan.  Julian returns to Ava’s and tells her what happened, that they need to be careful and that Sonny put a hit on him, but instead Morgan was in the car and died.  Ava is absolutely rocked to the core.

Julian informs his sister that Morgan had been heavily drinking and he shouldn’t have been doing so because of mixing his bipolar meds with alcohol.  A sickened Ava begins flashing back to switching his pills with placedo and admits this is all her fault, but Julian doesn’t understand how deeply she means that!  After Julian leaves, Ava recalls her love affair with Morgan, and how she destroyed his life and breaks down on the floor.

Now, Sonny is outside of his home with Jason and is preparing to tell Carly about Morgan.  He tells Jason he will tell Carly alone.  When he opens the door, Carly is so happy after their night of lovemaking and Sonny’s vow to not seek revenge on Julian, but a disheveled Sonny tells Carly he has something to tell her and it’s going to hurt.   He then tells her there was an accident and Morgan is dead.  Carly is at first in disbelief, and then we see her crumble to the floor through the window in Sonny’s arms.

So, what did you think of the performances of Dominic Zamprogna, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, and Maura West? What do you think about what happened to Morgan?  Look for more heartbreaking drama in the episodes ahead.  Comment below!

Maura west once again proved why she’s atop the food chain, the writers are involing her in many stories and interacting with other cast members

I am very disappointed in the show. I thought they were REALLY going to go there, but they didnt. They copped out by doing the explosion/over the cliff/body not found presumed death. It lessens the impact….it allows Sonny and Carly to go through the motions of grief until an undisclosed sweeps period in the future when Morgan returns with a new actor. It is cheap and lazy storytelling. The show never makes Sonny pay in any lasting way for his crimes.

That being said…I am VERY impressed with the writing lately! Some of it has been downright Shakespearean, where actions lead to consequences. The stories are interconnected. Yes there is a lot of fluff with newbies, and I still just plain dont like most of the characters on the canvas….but the bigger stories are working. It is pretty dark and heavy though…it needs to be balanced with some romance and humour.

All in all…keep up the good work!!

Yeah, the “Death” wasnt that creative BUT its a soap and its about drama so Carly acts out the loss and she will act out the “He is Alive!” Its okay to me. She is doing a great job!

      we’ve certainly heard…. A mother would know… often enough

yet saying that… still amped the drama that followed

the disbelief and HUGE LOSS of a child

I don’t know… how any one deals… when what really rings

no child should go before their parents

the grief… no matter who … wallop

      the end

Ava: Well, everyone IS out of Maura’s league, in my opinion. This incomparable, infallible thespian stands alone. From what inner source; from what painful element in her life in which this woman draws her emotional dispay of rancor, grief and pathos come? Enigmatic. Coming to a halt. Standing still. Good for you, Maura. I love you!!
Ava’s dispay of all these complex emotions flow so naturally…I must believe it’s an innate talent. A true performer. When I find myself on the floor with her; feeling her, wanting to comfort her, albeit knowing full well she did this to Morgan; that’s the mark of an actress who is able to transmit and transport the viewer onto her ride.
Carly: she was ok. I won’t speak too soon. I expect more from a grieving mother. Then, again, as I said, no one compares to Maura when besieged with grief.
Sonny: as I said on the other site: kudos. His face was an open book of feelings, albeit he seemed in a daze…..incredulous; trying to come to grips with what was happening around him. That’s exactly how one is expected to exhibit the shock of such news. Again, Maurice really did it for me.

Okay…..I take it back. Carly moved me. The frantic movements in looking for the charger….such a simple task became so important to her at that moment. It was as if finding it was synonymous to finding her son. Listening to his voice was her lifeline.
I am personally familiar with her actions…..
Of course, we all knew that once the realization dawned on her that Sonny was responsible for Morgan’s death, it would be both hers and Sonny’s undoing.
I should not feel pity for Sonny….but, my gosh…how lost and remorseful he must feel!!!!
I know it’s just a soap. But, it does mimic reality. I will never understand how these women , knowing into what they are getting, fall for these me. Living on the edge? Love of danger? Think of your kids!!!! This lifestyle will forever hold drastic and deadly consequences.
I cannot even imagine living in that ‘isolated’ world.

Con’t…..they found remains? Oh, boy! Could the remains be of Nikolas Cassadine? Gee, I don’t know…..has anyone else disappeared without a trace? Remains? What ? Some skin found scraped on a rock? A torn piece of clothing? I don’t trust ‘their’ remains.

Couldn’t help but wonder if that window shot at the end actually represented someone looking in and watching, and if there will be a Morgan recast along the lines of when Billy Miller took over as Jason.

    • Celia

      October 12, 2016 at 3:48 pm

We think alike……Of course, there will be a recast, Rita. I said this as soon as Morgan started going downhill. All the tell-tale signs were there.
I actually thought that he would live….. in a hospital…..with bandages on his face, and in a coma, waking up with a different face.
But, your assumption is even better…..he drifts downstream; some good samaritan finds him, but, Morgan has amnesia.

I believe Julian put the bomb in his own car to frame Sonny…but did not intend for Morgan or anybody to be in the car when bomb went off!!!

    • Marge H.

      October 13, 2016 at 10:20 am

I just googled that very idea…hoping that I would find something that would show that Julian did indeed plant the bomb himself, as a way to frame Sonny and get him out of his way, without getting blood on his hands…Big mistake!

      October 14, 2016 at 3:36 pm

Jim, I think it was Dr Joe Rivera. My guess it was Carlos’s brother seeking vengeance for the murder of his brother.
Also, Bryan Craig last air date is supposed to be in November. I think he’s going to be climbing up that cliff in a few weeks. I wish I could say the same for Nikolas.

        October 14, 2016 at 6:08 pm

Sonny just admitted today he put a bomb in Julian’s car when Carly was blaming him. He didn’t deny plannig the attack…he just kept saying he called it off. With that said, I, too, thought of Joe in the event it wasn’t Sonny, Harry. I also have this crazy notion that Carlos isn’t dead..that
somehow Joe was impersonating Carlos…he was the one that got killed…and now the real Carlos is out for revenge…

        @Harry and Becs

you two are teasing… ie: Jeffrey Vincent Parise

I’ve yet to find any thing on line… about his exit

yet it’s all over the internet on his return as Dr. Joe

        what gives?

I hope he’s one of Frank Valentini pets… whatever it takes to keep the man

trying to keep it light… he has a charisma that energizes

however he came across as a mobster
he disproved right away as Dr. Joe

that’s a wide spectrum in which to cull

across the board the cast loved REELing with

Hats off to JELLY, they did it, a nice twist where Morgan steals Julian’s car that is set to end Julian’s life but instead ends Morgans. I loved it! It causes a ripple through Port Charles that the A Team can take a bite out of. The A Team? Sonny was good and Ava was great! They are both hurting for many many reasons! I cannot remember the last time I watched GH and didnt want it to end! Monday was good and Tuesday was great! The B Team was Carly and Dante. The F Team was Jason. Billy Miller was horrible! Why the hell do they keep him around if he is just going to mumble around with NO emotion!

PS: When JORDUMB arrived at the scene I saw all the evidence go POOF, just like Morgan! Hey, I wander if Morgan and Nicholas will run into each other???

    • Ces

      October 12, 2016 at 7:07 pm

it must be that time… will Billy Miller… tune in ?

        ie: headline from

unless he turns Quartermaine…. this is a lost cause

I couldn’t believe when he was following Morgan… there us nothing compelling about Jason, outside of his puppy dog looks

      • Ces

        October 13, 2016 at 3:25 pm

I do like BM’s puppy dog looks 🙂 But they really need to have him say/do something other than just follow people around. I don’t get it?
I wasn’t a fan of Steve Burton either though…. Maybe it’s just the character itself that is a DUD?

Well, I think the best of Laura Wright is yet to come, which left Maura West to go for another no holds barred performance. As much as I despise Ava’s truly demonic actions, this actress is so phenomenal I almost forgot her deeds and actually felt a twinge of sorrow for her. And those flashbacks reminded me of how electric it can be when two actors really spark off each other. Morality aside, you could almost feel the heat between Ava and Morgan. Compare that with other “couples” like Jordan/Andre or Kristina/Aaron, or even Nathan/Maxie and it becomes sadly apparent that some actors simply do NOT click. So, brava once again to Marvelous Maura and her seemingly endless talent.

    October 12, 2016 at 11:08 am

Maura West did it for me. How anyone can take a character who’s done such horrible things and still make you feel compassion for her is in a league of her own.

    • Ces

      October 12, 2016 at 7:08 pm

Agreed. I actually believe she regrets what she did.

      • Rebecca1

        October 12, 2016 at 7:57 pm

She definitely regrets it. She had no intention of hurting Morgan…just wanted him to behave so erratically that Kiki would leave him. If you recall she was trying to look up what the effects of withholding medication would be when Scotty knocked on her door last week…Regardless, she once loved him so passionately…her devastation, remorse, disbelief…she crushed it along with my heart. Amazing performance and so poignant with the flashbacks of their relationship.

      • Ces

        October 13, 2016 at 3:29 pm

I agree with that Rebecca. MW just makes you *feel* — I felt her character’s genuine remorse! How dare “stiff” Bobbie question her? At least Ava looks sad. Loved the flashbacks; that was back when I actually like the character and actor. I just feel toward the end, BC started to get a wee bit egotistical.

      • Harry

        October 14, 2016 at 3:38 pm

        I agree with Rebecca too.
However, I really, really want them to find out that it was Ava who replaced Morgan’s meds with a placebo.

I thought for sure… “someone” was going to pick up his discarded pill box @the floating rib ?

why do they have to go so dark with Julian and Ava

        they are superlative actors

it just doesn’t bode well.. when Sonny is given a “pardon”
and Carly is IN YOUR FACE… back off

no recriminations .. Sonny has henchman to do his dirty deads
        Carly strong arms any one

        how interesting

      • Ces

        October 15, 2016 at 10:52 am

Oh, I thought he had taken them. Or that they went missing when Andre when to check them. Must have tuned out at that moment.

someone has to figure out that his meds were switched. I wonder if we’ll ever see Andre back onscreen again? I’m surprised he wasn’t on the last couple shows with all the news about Morgan’s death. It’s those “little” things that annoy me most about GH — continuity!

Solid actors but where will this story take us? Will there be any comeuppance for the guilty and complicit? Any genuine evolution or growth for there characters? The fallout of such a climactic moment can be so compelling to follow.

    • KansasGuest

      October 12, 2016 at 4:31 pm

It can. Both characters have had plenty of chances to “reform” their ways, and it doesn’t seem to take. But, when a child is affected, it’s often a reason for someone to go off the deep end. I really don’t want Ava to change too much. She’s to GH what Alexis was to DYNASTY – multilayered, conniving, passionate, gutsy, & she has an incredible wardrobe. Making her turn into the equivalent of Krystal Carrington would be boring as h*ll, much like Krystal was for the majority of the time. It took Alexis to bring out any personality in Krystal.

Maura West’s reaction to the news about Morgan from Julian was a superb performance. No one could have played that better. I thought the closing scene on GH Tuesday night where Carly had broken down and was with Sonny, as seen from the outside through the window, was really good. But, today’s opening with Bobbie waking up Carly and Carly thinking Morgan’s accident was a dream… that just seemed off.

I like how Dante’s reaction has been playing out; he’s finally getting a chance to do some acting. Sonny’s in denial that it was his fault….seems like he’s in emotional stock. Once that passes, will it turn into anger towards himself or Julian?

    • Celia

      Hi, Max,
The episode with Carly, today was not off, in my opinion.

I think some interesting choices are being made to really challenge viewers (and the characters) about things like forgiveness, revenge, justice, etc. While I know that realistically no police officer would be allowed to continue investigating his relative’s death, I’m glad there weren’t other officers on scene (Nathan, Valerie, etc. ) to keep Dante, Sonny & Jason from discovering the price of revenge.

The B stories seemed to tie in to that too. I see a lot of talks between Sam & Jason, & the kind of people they need to be if Franco is in Liz’s life. The stuff between Carly & Nelle was weird in that respect. But, I’ve always thought Nelle looks similar to the original Carly (Sarah Brown). All the reminders about Carly’s past lately seems to be setting her up for some “All About Eve” action since Morgan’s death may send her spiraling down.

Awesome post, KansasGuest. Certainly a lot of head-turning and double takes. I was thinking the same thing when Dante was leaving Carly. He would not, or should not be involved in this case, at all.

I truly did not, like… the scenes with Griffin and Sonny… at the “chapel”

way too contrived and does not carry any weight …. with Sonny character

god… at the metro court… carly mentions.. “there’s something different, you seem so relaxed”

      LOL… okey dokey

      as if the remorse of losing a child… isn’t enough… he’s got to be shown… ???
what… atoning for his sins… having a moment with the higher ups?

just doesn’t wash…. I swear… Charlotte needs to be Griffins… give me a wafer and grape juice

        October 13, 2016 at 4:58 am

        Hey, Patrick,
I had replied to you on the other site about the scene in the chapel, but it was not posted.
Chock-full of hypocrisy and holier-than-thou , hot air.
Sonny’s vendetta is based on the fact that Julian had Duke killed; that he could not understand how Julian walks free . Helllooo!! Who killed AJ and got away with it? Child’s play. In what real does a murdered get a pardon after a month in jail?
I understand the point of the scene——Griffin has many regrets and he tries to convey the fallacy, futility, and immorality of seeking revenge. Well, it worked. Sonny called for a “stand-down”, albeit all hell broke lose.
I think the explosion is the moral of the story. Sonny is paying the piper…..but, at what cost!! There is no price worth its mettle if it means losing one’s child. I am sure Sonny wishes he could turn back time; if indeed, this was by his hand, per se.
TPTB will fix this. Now, the writers are scrambling to blame someone else for the blow-up. Who will it be?

I’ll give them all this much and say the performances were great but that’s not surprising, because GH has always had great actors, and no matter what the storyline has been the actors always deliver. with that said, I guess if you have to pick the typical soap opera story for an exiting actor then you go to the most melodramatic one and have the charater presumed ” dead” this then generates ” drama” for the other characters because the charater going away to recuperate or down the line be recast won’t generate enough drama so I’m not mad about that but another charater back from the dead especially with this family it’s just going to be unoriginal and we all know the charater will come back from the dead, so till then I’ll watch and enjoy the acting chops of the actors because as usual the writing is very c level …

Killing off Morgan was a good move for the show. Not only was the character on a downwards spiral and becoming intolerable, but this move will serve so many story directions. First, it will cause a major rift between Sonny and Carly, who have been in happily-ever-after mode for a while, and with these two that can never last. Then there’s Ava, who will feel greatly responsible (as she should) for what happened to Morgan, and that will cause a rift between her and Kiki. Speaking of Kiki, this will take a huge toll on her, and hopefully steer her in Dillon’s direction. This will also effect Michael greatly, who has just experienced a huge loss with Sabrina less than a month ago.

GH has been in a slump for a while now. The serial killer story failed to generate the hype it should have, and the only significant death was Sabrina, who has seemingly been forgotten about already. Morgan’s death isn’t without consequence, and will continue to be felt for years to come – that is, if he’s actually dead. Sure, they found remains, but that’s not to say that he wasn’t badly injured and floated down stream.

Generally, I don’t like when shows kill off legacy characters (B&B did this with Ally, DAYS did this with Bo and Will, and Y&R seemingly has with Adam), but I think this was the right move for both the show and the character. Morgan needed a believable exit, one that would impact a lot of people, and sending him to a psych hospital for a while wouldn’t have the effect that this has. Plus, it was a bold move for a writing regime that has come under a lot of criticism (and in my opinion, rightfully so). But this was a good move by Jean and Shelly.

And the performances have been amazing. Seeing Dante upset like was wrenching, as was Carly’s collapse at the end of the episode, and Sonny trying everything he could to find his son. Ava’s breakdown was also amazing and well deserved for a character who has caused so much pain. Each actor brought their a-game, and should at least receive a nomination for next year’s Emmys.

All of the performances were amazing, but the one that stands out to me was Dom Zamprogna ( Dante). DZ is A terrific talent, continuously underappreciated and underutilized, in my opinion, on GH . He brings great nuance, realism and raw emotion to all of these scenes. He made me FEEL Morgan’s loss from the start. Although he didn’t have much with Bryan Craig’s Morgan, I remember those first scenes with little Morgan like yesterday, DZ Brought me back to being a daily GH viewer when he joined the show. Dante’s tough, cocky exterior belied a sweet, sensitive, loving interior.. I remembered when Dante threw himself in front of a car to save Morgan and how close they were. DZ portrays Dante as a conflicted man, in love with his father but hating what he does as a criminal that effects all the people around him. The first time when he called Sonny “dad” it was with love and compassion the second time he said it to Jason with bitterness and anger. Dom’s scenes were heart breaking and I think this story will give him plenty of material for an Emmy reel.

Agreed. He took the material and really went with it. I felt worse for him than anyone in this episode. All of the acting was incredible, but he really drew me in without being over the top all the while truly serving the other actors. I also want to say that in this particular episode, the writing actually matched the acting talent. This is the GH I love!

Agree 100%. The prior scenes Dom did with Maurice when he was trying to talk him out of pursuing JJ were even better than the post accident grief. Well done, I hope he submits. Cheers

Great post janeway…love your analysis of Dante. I agree. He’s a great character, conflicted as you say, and hasn’t had any great stories since he first found out he was Sonny’s son. These scenes really allowed him to shine..the incredible depth of emotion, yet subtle…brilliant…very powerful. What I don’t remember are the scenes you just mentioned with Dante and a younger Morgan…do you know what year that was?

Thank you. Yes, those scenes took place in 2009. Dom’s first scene on GH was at the end of the episode 6-22-09 and continued on 6-23-09 , that’s when Dante grabbed Morgan in the woods (not knowing it was his brother of course). And the episode where Dante pushes Morgan out of the path of the car was 9-9-09. They can be found on youtube.

I want to invest in all these gut wrenching moments– I want this to be a real story– with honest to goodness long term impact on all the affected characters– I want this to be real– YET– I have watched soaps long enough to know the old “body blown up never to be found” is code for the character will come back at some point alive and well– well almost well because he should have some part of him missing since they found a part to identify the “remains”

And I suspect in the end Sonny will not be to blame– I remember when Sonny ordered the hit, he told the guy to make it look like an accident, something that would never be traced back to him– a car bomb is hardly an accident– so my Soap Sense is tingling saying someone else put the bomb in the car, another enemy of Julian’s— or maybe a friend of Alexis who wanted to get her justice– but in the end it will not be Sonny– but in meanwhile we will have to watch months of heart wrenching guilt scenes– only to have them undo it all– so I feel like they are wasting my time– if I was certain that this was final, then I would say this was classic soap at its best– and the show and the actors will have a great Emmy reel they might win with it– but for me as a viewer– the shadow of them undoing this all is spoiling the story for me

I believe it was someone else too-JULIAN!…he put the bomb in his own car to frame Sonny,,,,however, no one was suppose to be n the car when the bomb went off!!!

        October 12, 2016 at 8:07 pm

Really? I’ll admit I disagreed if you’re right but I don’t think so. I think it was Sonny’s attempt to kill Julian but he didn’t call off the hit soon enough. Carly’s warning him, begging him to not seek revenge wasn’t enough until Griffin stepped in to bring him back to his faith…only it was too late. And thus begins the domino effect as each person lashes out until they all fall down…

    Random thoughts…

Maura West was amazing as usual.

The flashbacks with Morgan and Ava were a sad reminder of how good this show was when Ron Carlivati was writing it. (And as with the flashbacks for Sabrina, the show had to go back to when Carlivati wrote the show for flashbacks because Jean and Shelly never bother with character development.)

Of course Sonny will be absolved of all guilt and this will all end up being the fault of that darn old Julian for not being in the car when it blew up. (Oh, and Carly’s rage will be over by week’s end when Sonny “cries” and proves he’s got the sadz over his son’s death.)

Maybe I missed something (nothing about this show holds my attention these days) but if Jason was following Morgan why was he on the opposite side of the road with his car pointed in the opposite direction of Morgan’s?

Everybody kept running up that cliff from the road — are we supposed to believe that the car exploded and everything was blown sideways off a cliff without any rubble or signs of Morgan left along the way? And how was the bomb supposed to kill Julian if it wasn’t timed to go off when he was in the car? It just went off randomly. Yet another lapse in Jean and Shelly’s writing that we aren’t supposed to bother thinking about I guess.

That final scene where Sonny told Carly about Morgan while the camera was outside the window was much better the first time I saw it: when the doctor told Karen Fairgate that Sid was dead on KNOTS LANDING.

The bomb was suppose to go off with no one in the car…Julian planted the bomb himself to frame Sonny for attempting to kill him!!!

        October 12, 2016 at 7:53 pm

The boyfriend says Sonny will be absolved of all guilt when it is revealed that it was Paul who had the bomb put in the car to make up for his letting Julian get away with murder. Sadly, that is just the sort of “twist” that I would expect from Jean and Shelly…

Give me a break. The show was a cartoon when Ron Carlivati was writing it. That’s why he was fired. People having sex in a mausoleum, characters wearing masks that get peeled off like a Scooby Doo cartoon. What a joke. Good riddance. The show has real emotion, real drama, real heart under Jean & Shelly. These episodes written by them and performed by the always fabulous GH cast were some of the best shows they’ve done in years.

      • Rebecca1

        October 13, 2016 at 4:36 am

I agree Brian. I feel this arc is phenomenal and I’m watching and being “in the moment.” I’m not going to over analyze every technicality or what they plan (or impromptu) down the road…no pun intended. Right now, the story is powerful, the acting is fantastic. It’s like these characters have been asleep and have suddenly awakened with more life in the midst of this horrific death. We haven’t had this type of “heart” on GH in a long time. If Morgan turns up alive, eventually, it doesn’t diminish (for me) what I’m feeling/experiencing in the current storyline.

      • Dylan

        October 13, 2016 at 6:11 am

I second and third that Brian. I laughed out loud when this guy hinted that Ron did character development and Jean and Shelly don’t. Lmao! Like…say whaaaaaaa? Ron C was plot driven garbage!!

      • Alan

        October 13, 2016 at 3:45 pm

I stand by my comment that Ron developed his characters. Ron had characters interact and form friendships (Britt/Brad, Anna/Jordan, Sabrina/Felix, Dante/Nathan) and his stories had actual payoffs.

Look at the characters Jean and Shelly have introduced: Darby, Andre, Curtis, Amy, Finn, Aaron, Professor Parker — these characters have been in town for months and we still know basically nothing about them, nor have they been integrated into the larger story canvas past the character or two they interact with regularly. Ron was good at having a character affect other characters through a domino effect (example: Britt was obsessed with Patrick who was married to Robin who was being held prisoner by Britt’s mother Dr. Obrecht who was also holding Duke, the presumed dead lover of Anna, Robin’s mother and the obsession of Britt’s father Faison; Jean and Shelly have given us Darby who gave the Port Charles millenials microplasm genitalia and Aaron, budding chef who really digs Sonny and made Christina wonder if she’s as into the ladies as she thought she was).

As for cartoon plots, nothing Ron wrote was as awful as that ridiculous hospital killer “mystery” that Jean and Shelly just wrapped up. And don’t forget their other efforts: the worms in Tracy’s brain; the Weeping Nyad; Julian’s efforts to shut down CRIMSON; Olivia’s 15 minute storyline involving the public breastfeeding of her son (who has never been seen again) which culminated in the women of Port Charles taking their blouses off in court; the Nathan/Claudette/Griffin triangle (which has never addressed how Griffin completed seminary school and medical school at the same time and still had time to fool around with Claudette); and the Cassadine Island “adventure” with Lulu repeating the directions to the secret tunnel for a week, the skeleton in the tunnels, and the mystery woman who just happened to live down the road from the Cassadine compound (THAT was some straight up Scooby Doo stuff there).

        October 14, 2016 at 8:22 am

That might be so Alan…I loved Britt, Obtrecht, Brad…the relationships…all true. But our vets now have emotional stories…Alexis, Sonny, Carly, Jason. There’s been more emotional payoff…. Instead of glossing over breakups and betrayal, we see how it’s effected Alexis. Instead of grieving all of two seconds for someone who’s passed, we now have people in deep, realistic mourning. These writers have managed to tie in almost the entire cast through Morgan’s tragedy…it effects the Corinthos family, the Jerome’s, the Q’s (Jason and by way of Kiki, Dillon)… It will effect Sonny and Carly’s marriage, Kiki and Dillon’s almost-relationship, Ava, Julian…the possibilities are endless if played right. And it’s believable. Personally, I’d like it to turn out that It was Sonny’s order that caused it…more devastating impact, although now they’re casting doubt. Who knows…maybe it was Joe, Carlos’s brother ( unless Carlos isn’t dead and Joe’s the one who died). But I digress…good stuff!

      • Alan

        October 14, 2016 at 11:31 am

Yes, we “see” how it affects people but I think Morgan’s death would truly be “felt” if Jean and Shelly had built up the relationships Morgan had with the various characters. Yeah, he’s Sonny and Carly’s son, Michael’s brother, and Kiki’s boyfriend but he was more than that and if the writers had spent time deepening the ties between characters instead of wasting time on filler like the Weeping Nyad, Tracy’s brain worms, and Olivia’s breastfeeding this could’ve been played out to full effect.

Morgan was Bobbi’s grandson, Molly’s cousin, Lulu’s cousin and brother-in-law, Valerie’s cousin, Christina’s half-brother, Josslyn’s half-brother, Lucas’ nephew, and Rick’s nephew but I doubt that those relationships will get much — if any play — because it’s inconvenient to write for anyone but Sonny and Carly. Even if they do get a scene or two, it won’t have any resonance because we’ve rarely if ever seen Morgan share any scenes with any of these characters (the exception being the scene where Christina told Morgan she might like the ladies). Soaps have the greatest impact when they show the effect an event like this has on the family and with 200+ episodes a year there’s no excuse for not working in some character development/relationship scenes into the show.

Just a whole lot of missed opportunities in my opinion.

        October 14, 2016 at 4:36 pm

Alan..we got much less of that with Ron. When do we see ANY of these characters interacting with the others. Barely ever. With Ron, too. Ironically, Morgan did. Sonny, Carly, Michael, Kiki, Kristina, Darby, Ava, Julian, baby Avery, Dante, Jason, Andre, TJ, Molly…He was loved by them all, even with conflict. We’ll have to agree to disagree. I think, so far, this is a very effective, emotional story and I’m goin’ with it. I hope they can keep the momentum. My complaints thus far has been Bobby’s barely there reaction and Maxi and Luku switching gears practically in mid-sentence.

Totally unrelated but I’m starting to think Nell’s going to hit on Sonny…just like Carly hit on Tony. Maybe she IS Carly’s daughter!

Two presumed dead characters at the same time. The epitome of bad and lazy writing. Can’t they just leave on their own and come back later, if needed? No wonder they had to bring Mal Young from the UK with all the crap soap operas in the US.

What happened to Morgan is exactly what happened to Adam Y&R.
It is the same, and will play out as did Adams car wreck and him being dead with memorial etc and a year after WALLA! there he was alive and back with different face..
Just a copy of Adam’s death storyline.

      October 13, 2016 at 4:46 am

Where’s the drama if “they just leave?” This has been an amazing ride, ahem, and it’s because Morgan was such a troubled, central character who touched a lot of lives…his fate having the trickle down effect and opening up many scenarios to come out of it. I personally loved Morgan and I think Bryan Craig was perfect in the role. I was a fan from the beginning. Personally? I’d love for the character to be found, alive…at some later point. Due to budget cuts I guess they’ll see what the overwhelming fan reaction is. Either way, for now, this is the best story they’ve had in a long time. And…it’s not good because the others were or weren’t…just as a standalone it’s really well done.

      • Alan

        October 14, 2016 at 7:21 am

There can be a lot of drama in someone leaving the story canvas without killing the character off. Good storytellers can generate years of plot from a character’s exit without resorting to the overused “death” of a character they have every intention of bringing back a few months down the road. For instance if Morgan had tried to kill Julian or Paul (for killing Michael’s girlfriend) and been sent to prison, it still would’ve been a loss to the Corinthos family and the show could’ve mined years of story: Carly finally realizing what the life she has subjected her children to has done to them and leaving Sonny once and for all; Michael dealing with his brother’s own violent actions so soon after the loss of Sabrina by teaming up with Bobbi to finally open that free clinic to help people instead of hurting them; Lulu and Dante dealing with her desire for another child versuses his concerns about bringing another child into the violent world they live in; Kiki falling in love with Dylan as she comforts him over the loss of his father at the hands of her boyfriend (and secretly visiting Morgan behind Dylan’s back); Ava being racked with the guilt of possibly being responsible for Morgan’s violent act and haunted by the fact that she doesn’t know what Paul did with the flashdrive containing her confession; Jason cutting Sonny out of his life for the good of his family and returning to the Quartermaine fold; and Sonny finding himself alone for the first time in his life and finally realizing that he is responsible for that.

Since we all know a Corinthos never has to pay for their crimes, when the show found a new Morgan his family could be shown visiting him in prison to slowly allow viewers to accept the recast before bringing him back to town. Also, having Morgan in prison could allow him to interact with other prisoners, such as a man looking for revenge after being indicted as part of the Raymond Berlin scheme; Morgan could inadvertently help the man learn about Port Charles and Hayden’s place there which would set up a new storyline and create more crossover amongst characters.

GH needs to dial back the whole “they didn’t really die thing” because it’s becoming as big a joke as having everyone in Port Charles kill someone. We’ve already had AJ, Jason, lil Jake, Duke, Robin, and Carlos come back in the last few years (and yes, the majority of those resurrections were under Ron Calrivati who I think did an overall good job as headwriter otherwise).

      • Rebecca1

        October 14, 2016 at 8:30 am

Alan, we already had Michael shot, in a coma sent to jail and raped. We already had Morgan going after Sonny’s enemy eith a gun and Kiki got shot. We already had Morgan is a mental facility…none of these things caused Carly to keave Sonny. We already had Sonny going to jail, we already had Sonny kill AJ. Neither Sonny or Carly left him the killing of Morgan, even if he does eventually resurface, is much more dramatic and not lazy writing. It’s some of the poignant stories they’ve had in a long time. Jail? Paul’s in jail, Johnny’s in jail, Steven Weber is in jail, Sonny was, Ava was, Julian was…so…the murder of a vet was much more dynamic with greater repercussions.

      • Rebecca1

        October 14, 2016 at 8:34 am

Correction: Neither Michael nor Carly left him (Sonny). Killing off Morgan…even if he resurfaces…

      • Alan

        October 15, 2016 at 12:22 pm

I agree that the death of a major character can generate dynamic story. Unfortunately with these writers I don’t expect to see that nor do I expect Morgan to be “dead” for long since various sites have been reporting casting for a role that sounds like a Morgan recast.

If the show wants to commit to the direction they have taken, they need to commit to it 100%. Morgan was never all that interesting anyway once he broke up with Ava so I can’t see where bringing him back would be worth the time and trouble (except of course to remove all guilt from Saint Sonny).

    October 12, 2016 at 4:19 pm

I know it’s daytime and I hope that since the grief will kill Sonny that the writers eventually write that they find Morgan’s suicide note. We’ve seen the story of success and survival with bi polar disorder with Sonny but have yet to see the unsuccessful side to it. It’s time that daytime deal with suicide in a compelling way. Show how it effects the parents, siblings, /!; friends when a person takes their own lives.

Suicide is the least spoken on soaps yet we flash guns like candy, flaunt rape stories and hero the rapists, we see serial killers walk free, gangsters exact revenge yet suicide seems to be too heavy a price for any characters

That being said, 2 of my favorite actresses playing Ava and Carly are given the opportunity to show all the newbies why these women are loved and admired and what acting REAL ACTING is all about! This is what I love abt soaps!!

    • Rebecca1

      October 12, 2016 at 8:11 pm

It wasn’t a suicude. Morgan acted spontaneously, he jumped in the car but had the sense and the desire to want help which is why he responded to Jason. He agreed to pull over, to let Jason help him…which makes it all the more tragic.

      • Celia

        October 13, 2016 at 9:40 am

Right, Rebecca. No way was it a suicide. Morgan had no clue what would go down. He listened to Jason and got out of the car.
However, I also agree with Jimh when he said that Julian planted the bomb. Why would he say to Ava, “We’re in trouble”?
By the same token, as I’ve already stated, it could have been someone else, with a gripe against Julian ……the writers do not know yet. Typical.
After all is said and done, there is no need for a couple of ‘our’ posters to attack others whose opinions happen to differ from theirs. It just doesn’t stop.
I respect Alan’s opinions. He has a voice. And, HE HAS A NAME!!!!

Yes, “Where’s the drama if they just leave”? I may be wrong, but there’s no way either Sonny or Julian is leaving, unless either wants to. If both were found guilty and not exculpated, they’d go to jail, I would assume.
And, yes, I, too, would like a new Morgan to materialize.
I know you love Bryan’s rendition of Morgan, Rebecca (lol)….. I was just never in sync with ‘his’ Morgan.

Good for Bryan Craig for moving on to greener pastures. His acting really blossomed while working with Maurice Benard and Laura Wright.

Of course Morgan is NOT dead. When they find the right replacement, they will resurrect the character.

However, I don’t know what it is about ABC dramas but I can no longer tolerate them. They are not exciting enough. Try as I might, I try to watch GH because Emme Rylan moved over there, but it does not hold my attention. The same thing for the night time. I tried to watch Designated Survivor but it is just meh to me. Same for Secrets and Lies. I wish I could put my thumb on it, but these dramas just seem fake and are not very organic anymore. 🙁

Once BC decided to leave, I’m glad they did away with the character and not recast him. Not to sound cruel but I hope the character stays gone. The acting from LW, MB, DZ and MW has been stellar!! The fact that Sonny will have to live with this ( and he better finally realize it WAS his fault ) will make for good MB material. I know some cringe at more Sonny time, but the self-righteous Sonny/Carly duo will be no more! Great job!!

I agree Ces that it’s phenomenally well done. The acting by all…with the exception of Bobby (Jackie Zeman) has been fantastic. But I wouldn’t count Morgan as dead…just presumed so…even if they find evidence.

I know some people are done with the coming back to life stories. I’m not. If I like the character and time has passed I’m usually happy about it. For now, I’m totally into the fallout and the emotional wallop.

Maura, Laura, Maurice, and Kiki all gave great performances after hearing about Morgan. I can’t feel too sorry for Ava…somehow Kiki and/or Carly are going to discover she changed Morgan’s pills, and hell hath no fury, especially from Carly. Then there’s Sonny’s payback, even though he probably put Morgan’s possible death into motion. And you have to add what Morgan’s possible death will do to Sonny and Carly. Am looking forward to how all this plays out. And also to when we get a new Morgan and Nicholas.

    • Rebecca1

      October 13, 2016 at 5:02 am

I feel very sorry for Ava, Rose. Of course I was infuriated when she switched Morgan’s meds and ther’s no defense. But I truly think she was so desperate to save Kiki from Morgan’s troubles that she thought by him reverting to manic it would break them up. Again, disgusting, amoral, unthinkable. Yet I truly don’t think she thought…just acted…with no intent but her goal. Wrong, but naive. Her devastation and shock, the guilt, indefensible but gut-wrenching when she realized what she set in motion. Can’t deny the real love they shared at one time…just a convoluted mess. Similarly, she loves Kiki but slept with Morgan behind her back. She doesn’t think of consequences which is her fatal flaw.

      • Rose

        October 13, 2016 at 6:53 am

Maybe Griffin can help her work things through. If he can get over Julian killing Duke, Ava really needs someone she can trust, and perhaps help steer her to some sort of redemption both for herself and others. It will be a lot harder for others, and could be the reason she loses Avery. All,the more reason Michael shouldn’t have given her to Sonny because that household is imploding as well.

I did forget to mention Dante and Michael’s excellent performances. Just hope the writers give Michael a break. It’s been one thing after another for him. Like to get him back to when he was running ELQ. He wasn’t such a wimpy person then, but life does have a way of taking your mojo away.

it’s the oddest thing… the first family of Port Charles and “mob” kingpin

the way Sonny and Carly are continually spotlighted with no real essence or instinct… no intrinsic value…they have no personality…. other than; all of port Charles knowing they are mob active and don’t you dare bring harm to their kids…. end of story

I agree with posts… after all the hoo-ha… subsides… will this REALLY change Sonny and Carly…. I doubt it…. they will continue to reign supreme with no shroud of guilt… no shame. etc….

their adversarial (s) Julian and/or Ava

the writers … have they ruined Julian beyond redemption yet he’s out
the writers… have they ruined Ava from all salvation…

Julian and Ava… continually act circles in and around their “worthy” opponents
        it’s laughable isn’t it

it’s like the writing is so ??? dime store… when it comes to propping Sonny and Carly

PS: I barfed @ Sonny and Carly love scenes

I can’t stand the way they … act out their romance… ugh! it’s so fake… I don’t get that they truly love each other

        it’s the actors chemistry

        PS: to balance my share

what if : Carly and Sonny do fall out ?

wouldn’t this be something for Carly to show some character

this is very much in the vein of how Sarah Browne REELED

why shouldn’t Carly fall off the rails… her tirades at Sonny and protecting her family come to a stop

so she seeks comfort with Ric Lansing…. what better way for Carly to get back at Sonny

just show some meat…. argh! it’s always something happening to one of their kids that’s for show and affect the audience

what are Sonny and Carly all about

        Sonny !

he’s been acting mob FOREVER ! GH gives him Laura and his family back…

epic fail… let’s see Claire Walsh back in town

in the end… this would be a BIG distraction… as each of them… go to their own corners …. lick their wounds… or just SHOW US SOMETHING ELSE !

You may be right, Rebecca. Nelle, could, indeed, be Carly’s daughter.
What a twist, eh?! As I understand it, Carly had an affair with Bobbi’s husband?
But…..ewwwww, Sonny????!!!!! Nelle’s a baby. Will Sonny succumb? Nah! Even I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
However, Sonny is in such pain; in desperate need of consoling; a shoulder upon which to cry, he may.
        Ohh, the possibilities…..

The Corinthos family always pulls me in. I watched this family for years, through times when Carly and Sonny were together or just as coparents. It was a bit cruel although soapy to make Carson fans wait two years for a love scene and give them one as their only biological child dies. I love they are making Dante a big part of this story, DZ has been outstanding. It would have been nice if Jason could have at least had a few scenes with Morgan before he tried to save him, he was his namesake after all. Little moments with them could have added greatly to the story and amped up the drama. The realization slowly sinking into Sonnys mind that’s it was possibly his hit that has killed Morgan, made me feel deeply for him. MB’s defeated look as he faced Carly at the end of Wednesdays episode was so powerful.
The person who hit me the most was Carly. LW hit all the right notes in my book, not over played, not underplayed. Sheer perfection, My only complaints are that I would have liked to see more of her. Her scenes were way too short, I wanted to see her denial last a little longer. Instead of hearing Sonny called Bobbie to help,I would have liked to have seen it and I also would have like vet Bobbie to be told on screen about her grandsons death. I also find it very hard to believe Michael would not have rushed to Carly’s side. These types of scenes are not to be rushed and I thought a bit too much happened on today’s show(Wednesday).

As for Maura West’s performance I also thought she was wonderful. Its obvious the writers adore featuring her and she deserves her piece of the story. But that being said, it was not Ava’s grief I wanted to see focused on and a large amount of airtime was devoted to her grief. I wanted to see the core characters I have bonded with over the many years. Wednesday’s show featuring the Corinthos family as well as Bobbie, Monica, Tracey, Laura, Ned, even a recast Dillon, Lulu made me feel like I was actually watching GH again.

Maura West…BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, PERFORMANCE on yesterday’s episode as well
as today’s show when answering Bobby’s loaded question “Did you ever love Morgen?”
& Ava’s anguished tear filled, heart breaking reply “yes”…. Emmy nomination hands down!!!
Laura Wright / Carly’s last 2 minutes of yesterday’s show where they went silent yet you
could hear every word as if spoken out loud was heart wrenching….and again today when
she accused Sonny of killing their son…was what I expected & hoped she would deliver.
When all is said and done wouldn’t it be something else to discover it wasn’t Sonny’s
doing after all…but in fact Paul’s last act of vengeance against Ava for forcing his hand
at Julian’s trial…. This is really taking from GH’s history, BC Lilly ‘s father rigged Sonny’s
limo with a bomb to kill him, but his daughter started the car & died instead……history
    repeating itself.

I really agree with Iakovos… the only one thus far….that’s going to truly REEL is Ava

    I dont’ think it’s lost…so much

    because… once again

    Dillon and Kiki are outstanding

Ned and Olivia are fetching….. big

    just what the doctor ordered

now get the move on @GH

    Mac and Felicia
    Kevin and Laura

    that’s love

Maura West is the primary reason that I still watch “GH.” I love her, and I love her character.

little ombudsman freshman Nelle…. is stretching it

    truth time

    roaring : Nelle and Carly

had it not been for my marriage to Sonny and this hotel… most people wouldn’t give a damn about me

    YES…… LOL

    and MORE YES

Nelle has been muttering to herself… of late

I think she did after… speaking with Kiki… and Carly

      she is suspect

Nelle is just too “nice.” I suspect she wants a way bigger reward for maybe being Jos’s donor than just a job with Carly. She has always just so conveniently intertwined herself into the Corinthos world. Even the heart-to-heart with Morgan and the last kiss he gave her. Don’t like to put Nelle in the same breath with one of my favorite songs, Behind Blue Eyes, but with her maybe more than sadness.

        October 14, 2016 at 9:26 am

well… who knows who she makes those phone calls to… along with her speaking to herself…. sounds a tad fishy

other than that: Carly and Nelle “relationship”

Nelle to Carly : “You have everything”

SOUNDS very MUCH like : “All about Eve”

Carly ( Bette Davis ) & Nelle ( Anne Baxter)

Anne Baxter was a viscious understudy and wanted Bette Davis Life

it was a happy ending… for the #1 star in the world… Bette Davis character , after continually bemoaning her “old” age… she was around 40 years old… left the theatre and her heart and soul met and she happily got married

As I mentioned above I’m starting to think she’s Carly’s daughter and is going to hit on Sonny.

GH Nurses’ Ball 2018 Conclusion: Anna Learns Henrik Is Her Son, Maxie Has Her Son, Ava Wows, Mike & Sonny Duet!

In the most moving and exciting episode of this 2018 GH Nurses’ Ball, all roads lead to the truth about Henrik and how he is really living his life as none other than Peter August (Wes Ramsey).  First, Robert (Tristan Rogers) who has punched out by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) on stage drags him outside of the ballroom for his part in the cover[up.  Robert is worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) safety. Nina (Michelle Stafford) confronts her husband about how long he’s known who Henrik is.  She later figures out why he has been trying to whisk her and Charlotte out of the country.

Onstage Mike (Max Gail) takes a mic, and makes a moment of saying he has Alzheimer’s and then launches into the song he remembers,“The Summer Wind.” As he sings, he imagines being accompanied by a big band as he proceeds to deliver a showstopper.  Suddenly, in reality, Mike is lost and disoriented … scared he stares around at the audience.  Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets up to the stage to help his dad by cluing him into the lyrics.  Sonny sings with Mike and gets him through the song.  They receive a standing ovation.

Ava (Maura West) who is preparing to perform her number comes across a moment between Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Griffin (Matt Cohen) backstage where they are in a hug.  Little does Ms. Jerome know that Griffin was consoling Kiki after her lewd run-in with Dr. Bensch (James DePaiva).   Then it is Maura West, who truly brings down the house for this year’s ball with her Ava’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me.”  That tune was certainly a nod to all those that Ava feels have wronged her.  Yup! Sonny, Griffin and Kiki we think are some on her list!   Dressed in a white pant suit and accompanied by a bevy of male dancers, West knocked the interpretation of the song out of the park, to make it work for her character and the Nurses’ Ball.

Elsewhere, Maxie (Kristen Storms) has gone into labor, and Peter is right there safely delivering her baby boy. Maxie is taken by paramedics to the hospital, while Peter calls Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) at Maxie’s urging to let him know what happened.  Spinelli has just found out, through Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) that Peter is Henrick!

Anna is walking into a trap on the pier as she waits for Henrick. When he appears, he has no idea that Anna is his mother, and thinks it’s all been a set-up.  He points a gun to eliminate her once and for all, but Anna says she has something to tell him.

The Nurses’ Ball concludes with a touching finale of “Champion” featuring: Epiphany (Sonya Eddy), Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), Amy (Risa Dorken) and the other nurses.

So, what did you think of the final episode of the GH Nurses’ Ball 2018?  What did you think of the musical performances? Do you think Maxie’s baby will be OK? Will Anna be able to tell Henrik that she is his mom? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
