RATINGS: DAYS Overtakes GH And Takes The Number Three Spot!

Following their triple-crown victory of winning Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Writing Team in a Drama Series, and Directing Team honors at the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Days of our Lives continued their upswing when the recent ratings were released this week.

For the week ending April 30th through May 4th, DAYS moved past General Hospital as the third most-watched soap opera. Considering DAYS has been in the fourth position of all four soaps for the last several years, this is definitely worth noting.. DAYS came in with 2,301,000 average total viewers for the ratings week, while GH had 2, 288,000. In addition, GH tied an all-time low in the womens 18-34 ratings share.

As for The Young and the Restless, they also lost the most viewers for the week with -174,00, while coming in at 4,089,000 total viewers. Even though they remain at number one and are far ahead of the other three soaps, it seems the show, which in the past has hovered around 4.5 million a week, is down. In addition, the ratings reflected that B&B is now tied with Y&R for the number one show in the womens demo 18-34, and Y&R has tied some lows in total households, and the women 18-49 ratings share.

The Bold and the Beautiful remains second of the soaps with 3,227,00 viewers, but is down over 100,000 total viewers from last year at this time. View the entire ratings picture via SON here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,089,000 (-174,000/-75,000)
2. B&B 3,227,000 (-90,000/-129,000)
3. DAYS 2,301,000 (+93,000/+229,000)
4. GH 2,288,000 (-56,000/-162,000)

So, what do you think about Days of our Lives now in the number three position of the four soaps? Will they hold on to the spot over GH? What do you think about Y&R and B&B’s ratings? Comment below.

wtf, i’m overwhelm w/ the new look, the first thing i found myself looking for was the comment section, its my fave part of your website to know what my fellow soap fanatics think on any given soap news, so its disappointing that its hard to find and that we’ve been regulated to the bottom.

this is distracting.. all the busy -ness of multi-media . argh! with all due respect to Mr. MF. it is a business. all the trappings of internet. suck.

I hope all the past posts are brought back.

it wont let me comment

Thanks Micheal..glad im still able to be part of this wonderful group…you have the best site ever!!!

I was almost in tears for two days, aria……there was no warning, NOTHING. This is soooo disappointing because it is soooo cold, clinical and sterile–no true interaction with you guys. I guess it’s a matter of getting used to it ??
I thougt it was my both my cell and ipad….and, I was ready to call Apple. Wow!!
Good to know it idn’t just moi.

it will take some time getting used too…but im happy to see you and other familiar names back on here too…

Right back ‘atcha’, Jimmy.

Hi Celia – did you throw me a life line yesterday ? do you have an 8 year old. woah it was godsend… I SWEAR to “you”.

I do not “work” computers.. I read and this site is about my maxed OUT. LOL.

understand the tears. i’m going to have to give @Aria another shoutout… !!!!

where are my soap addicts

Hollah… all may be well

any way… when I got that notification in my e-mail… I was like.. “something’s working” i’m not lost yet .

“… If I lose you guys….what can I say? Au revoir? LOL. ”

spill the thrill

Yes, Patrick …thst was I. Wow!!!! You received that? I was experiencing despair because I thought my ipad went awry…..then, I tried my cell; same thing..and yes, my son Nico, who is 8 knows more about computers than I do. LOL.
He did tell me Error 404 meant that the website had probably moved.
My husband, actually, re-routed me to these new boards.
Imagine my relief when I saw all the familiar names. We’re like family and no one should mess with family. LOL…❤️

Going to keep an open mind but not really sold on the new look for the site. Also disappointed that so many of the comments on previous stories are gone (Including the one I just posted on this story over the weekend).

I am missing the allure of the darkness of the old board and the old message board-
It had an atmosphere– a deeper drama feeing..
Yes, I will miss the feeling of the now-defunct board 🙁
It was unique, indeed.. like none of the other sites/boards..

But! I also like change and Michael has done an outstanding job with this new site and it will serve him much better..

“…I am missing the allure of the darkness of the old board ”

thanks.. you are so funny and RIGHT on

all this glitz will not distract from my meaning

Ahhh, SuzieQ….we can get the darkness back. LOL.
I am beginning to like this……no one can send cryptic, ‘mean’ posts in our inbox any longer. HaHa….

Amen, su!!! This website’s so bright, I gotta wear shades! Between that and the “open floor plan” of the new “Fairman Manor,” I am feeling a bit bereft! Could we at least please go back to the black background and reverse type???

it is way too bright…i dont mind changes but i do miss the darker background…also wish there was an edit to correct mistakes or if i want to add something!!!!

Wonder how many up votes it will require to return to the dark background????? I just gave you the first one, jimh!

Hey there, CeeCeeGirl! I took a few days off and look what happened! Whilst this is an impressive effort, I have to admit I’m missing the old format, too, but I’m just glad we can still keep in touch! Anyway, will have to return to further delve into this brave new “Fairman World” when time permits. Hope all is well with you! Later, mia amica!

Welcome, amica mia bella…….I searched regularly in hopes of spotting you….here you are!!!!!
Later, Shaybelle.

WOW!!!!!! I really like this now, Shay. Mr. Fairman sends personal approvals of our comments? Thank you, sir!!!!!
Hey Shay, I mostly like how quickly there’s a turnover of comments. Nice!!

I did previously respond to you several times on the “old site,” regarding a few of our ongoing topics, CeeCee, but for whatever reason, my posts didn’t appear! Guess the “moving men” left them behind…Lol. Please try to reply directly to my link here so I can see if it will turn up in my email with Mr. Fairman’s “seal of approval,” okay? (Sounds very cool…) Anyway, I’ve much to say about NB, Anna, Scorpio, Finn and (of course!)….Alexis! Until my next installment, mia amica! P.S. Have you enountered the fair Miss Phyllis on any of the non-GH threads? Been missing her immensely…hope she favors us with her presence for this inaugural week of FairmanTV! That would make the celebration complete!

Okey-dokey, Shaybelle…
And, no, Phyllis has not made an “appearance”….I had to think twice, well; thrice , Shay, figuring out to whom you were referring. LOL…..I said to myself you could not be talking about Gina Tognoni….HaHa….
Remember the fall I took at the skating rink? Well, I was at the clinic…..so much pain….getting cortisone shots. My husband literally dragged me there, this morning ( by the hair)….Do not like doctors—oh, the irony of it all! …Ha!!
So, you are OK with the revamped sites? At first, I thought communication would be too impersonal….but, as it turns out, it is very personal—I like the private communications on my inbox….as I said, the feedback is our own comment ……no nasty posts.
Ciao, amichetta…..

Well, I hope Phyllis sees this post and knows that she is missed, CeeCee! So sorry to hear about your ongoing physical discomfort following your ice skating mishap….may you be feeling better in no time! At any rate, I’m trying my best to get into the spirit of celebrating this new format….I also like the more direct approach to replies…now if we could only have “private messaging,” too! However, I am still struggling a tad with the overall concept…it’s a bit too bright and airy for my taste…I’m not at all into the minimalist thing design-wise…white walls everywhere make me mad! Lol… Sooo…still a work in progress, but Mr. Fairman is obviously on top of things and very accepting of both our complimetary comments and constructive criticisms….well done him! Anyway, it’s about time I scurry on over to some other threads…this is the only one I’ve navigated thus far…I shall try not to get lost! Later, mon amie! P.S. I’m not big on doctors, either…hence I try to stay as holistic as possible, but sometimes needs must! You are oh so lucky to have your own “personal physician!!!”. Take care!

aria, I am totally with you here. Also, you would think that, on the day a massive change is made to the website, the comments would be up to date. Instead, on this inaugural day, the first few features appeared to have no comments as yet.

Perhaps lost in the shuffle was my comment praising DOOL for its ratings surge. I predicted on these pages months ago that DOOL would indeed pass GH. In my opinion, both shows are decidedly deserving of their current trajectories…

To end on a positive note, notwithstanding our shared complaints about the difficulty in finding the comments, I do like the eye-catching design of the new website!

@aria; @Jamesj75

wow disconcerting to say the least. LOVE your comment @aria .

“… fave part of your website to know what my fellow soap fanatics think on any given soap news, ”

I got this to work on my tablet … so we shall see if this is : a waiting for your consideration… ???

Thank you for your reply, Mr. Fairman. I really appreciate it. I assumed that the transition necessitated delays in posting or other possible glitches. But, like others, I was panicking for a moment…

I know that your primary role is as promoter/cheerleader/conduit for this genre. And you do an outstanding job in that regard! I also applaud your interest/willingness to allow this wonderful community of posters to air its wide-ranging views of the genre: supportive, critical, contemplative, humorous, impassioned, and indifferent.

As we know, change doesn’t come easily for some of us, particularly for devout soap fans: a new actor in a role, a new producer, a new writing regime, a new direction for a show, and a new website configuration can upset the apple cart and expand one’s comfort zone. But I feel that your community of posters is adaptable to the new look/composition of your website. As I mentioned, it looks great!

Thank you again for the work you do, and thank you again for giving us this platform!— You know we enjoy it!

Please take care.

James

Hope this makes it…i did say about the same about both GH and Days-they deserve the position they are in…GH is a bad train wreck right now…DR. Brandt pursing KIki without any other characters involved feels like a wasted filler moment…Franco and Finn dont work for me anymore-Franco no matter how they try to redeem him and Finn no matter who they pair him with…im still mad about Genie…and Frank V. who is a total weeni!!!

Hi, Jimmy…are you Jimh? There is another Jim……I’d like to make sure I got the right Jim. LOL.

yes,,,i forgot to use my h…ill add that starting today-lol

❤️
Are you watching DOOL, Jimmy? Ok…so, who do you think opened the door to Vivian’s buried-alive-‘tomb’?
I bet on Stefano? Who else? Andre? Tony? But, Tony is a good guy….and, Susan is in a ‘facility’.
Oh, wait…..what about Kristen?? Sorry, I’m all over the place. I guess I’m just ecstatic about finding you guys!!!!
Whoever it is, don’t you think it should have been aired as Friday’s cliffhanger?

i fell asleep and missed it…i suffer from chronic fatigue…im tired all day long…i will have to watch it on demand…and if someone opened it probably Stefan!!!

Hey look i can vote you a one up for comments…

it has to be Stefan….

I don’t know, Jimmy. From what I’ve gathered, Stefan is still mourning his mother…..and, he’s not that smart, LOL.
I am sorry about your problem, Jimmy….I understand, many people suffer from chronic fatigue. It was once considered a psychological problem….but, that conclusion went out the window with scientific progress in that field….what you have is very real.
Stay well, my friend.

Hey Jamesj75

thought we were all “lost” to each other forever! Couldn’t sign on!

Glad we are still here…glad MF worked things out…still missing a few other names…glad to see you are able to post gain!!!

haha. I think it’s so funny that we “regulars” were freaking out. We’ve all been on this site for a few years now and we’re like this little microcosm. I think the problem was that there was no warning! I thought I’d missed it because I hadn’t been posting as much recently. And then when I couldn’t sign on I was like, “it is me?” or is everybody having this problem. I thought how weird it would be if we all didn’t find our way back here; because we don’t have any other contact info…just poof!…gone!

So happy to see familiar “face” ;). I’m sure the others will trickle in!

Glad you found your way here, too, Jim! Wouldn’t be the same without ya!

Yes,,we needed a warning…where is that Lost In Space Robot…Warning!…Warning!…Will Robinson!…a new look is about to be launched!!!-lol

That would definitely have helped, Jimh! Lol

Hi rebecca1! I was feeling the same way, but relief has taken control… It’s great that we are all able to reconnect! Best to you and your loved ones!

And best to our other friends and posters here! You all make it interesting and fun!

Jamesj75…I think I went through withdrawal! Hahahah…I kept coming back to sign on and…nutthin! Felt like I was trying to get back into the house and I’d forgotten my key. I could look through the window but I couldn’t get in!

So glad to see your “smiling face” again! 😉

Hi Rebecca1 : Group hug , time, no?

@Jamesj75… “Nice” shared heart full

don’t ask me… when it may take upwards of 2-3 days for posts .. my first thought is always … I’ve been 86’d.

however.. these past 2 days was trembler and it was gonna shake me up

salute !

back to the grind – greasing the wheel

haha, Patrick, yes! Group hug! It’s like a family reunion, LOL! So happy you found your way back; it’s been quite the challenge. Do you think Michael did this to freak us out? 😉

I had been pleasantly distracted on the weekend by watching Harry and Meghan get married starting at 4am in the morning, and then followed it throughout the day. Real life soap opera with all of the elements right up until the final I Do’s. Happy, loving, joyful, family baggage on both sides, a big change for Royal wedding, etc. Plus I kept away from all of the news.

So when I checked into MF I wondered if I had entered into some alternate universe. Then I remembered Michael was doing a redo. Glad to see familiar “friends” have figured it out, and are settling in.

Speaking of GH ratings…thinking GH could take lots of pages from the wedding In writing the kind of stories we have been asking for. And they did it as a on day event. Truly love in the afternoon, and not so many downer stories.

Days is on fire, finally over taking GH in the ratings is terrific news.

Amen!

GH’s storylines are so predictable and repetitive. Whereas Days has twists and turns that you never saw coming. GH storylines just meander without an ending. Days wrap up their storylines within 90 days.

Well GH, you didn’t listen. In fact, you never listen. We have been screaming how much we hate the re-write of Anna Devane, how much we hate it when new characters come in and take over the show, and how much we hate it when you disrespectfully kick our vets to the curb. Yet, you turn a deaf ear and do everything we hate. Will you listen now?

Justin,
TPTB and Wright’s boyfriend, Ramsey, are ruining this show. I don’t tune in to watch “The Peter August Show.” What a terrible storyline, brought on by terrible acting. The comments on social media are in-sync with ours. TPTB had plenty of time to kill this storyline and change the story arc. But, they had to give this guy a job. Apparently, he wasn’t able to land auditions (or jobs) on his own. Watching him attempt to act, I can see why. To rewrite a beloved character, such as Anna Devane, is unforgiveable. All to prop-up and p*mp out “Mr. Laura Wright.”

Hi dmr; glad to see you! But, I have to disagree. I’m loving Wes Ramsey, I’m loving his portrayal and I’m loving the story.

The writers have to shake things up a bit otherwise we’d just be getting the recycled stories everyone’s always complaining about. Scorpio is back; and he’s had a lot more to do this time around other than when he was just sitting in the back row of Robin and Patrick’s renewed vows. At least this time there’s a bit of the ol’ Scorpio peeking through. And I really enjoyed the standoff between Anna and Jason; and thought Henrik/Peter’s reaction was very touching.

Just loved it and lookig forward to more. I know you don’t agree but I, for one, am really hoping they keep him around.

Hi Rebecca! I completely agree with everything you said. I am really enjoying anything with Anna & Robert Scorpio! Love them both so much.

I also love Wes Ramsey’s portrayal of Henrik. They do need to mix it up or like you said we would have recycled stories. 🙂

Cheers!

Hi abruzzfan! No joke; you crossed my mind recently. You haven’t posted here in ages! Just reading the comments? So glad you found this new page. It was s bit of a challenge. To use another “house analogy” Ifeel like it’s going to take some time getting used to our new digs. I think the other “place” had a private feel and now we’re in an open space. Sigh. Change is always an adjustment. 😉

I LOVE Peter! He’s been getting some negative feedback whereas I think he’s doing an incredible job. The way he carries himself, his smooth, mellow demeanor, his subtle change from pleasant to troubled. I can feel his desire for acceptance, love, his fear of being exposed and shunned. And when his eyes welled up with disbelief, shock, hurt when he found that Anna was really his mother…sniffling mess over here.

Love Scorpio being back. He looks great, he came on strong compared to the last few times he made a brief return. Shame he’ll be gone again. I really do wish they’d bring him and Mac back.

I dont remember if you’re a Carly fan or not. I can’t stand her so I’m loving that Ava got Avery out from under her “step-mommy” claws.

Hope u start to post again or at least say hello. 🙂

Hey Rebecca! Hello again!

This site is sure nice and modern, but it does indeed feel like we are in the “open space” now! I guess a little house cleaning never hurts? LOL

I do like Carly, but didn’t like that step-mommy was raising Avery as her own!

Take care!

hi Justin,
I like Peter..
His character is giving many others an upfront story, too..
Peters story includes;
Maxie, Valentine, Jason, Spin, Robert and Anna. Also others.
So- I’m good with Peter/Henrik, the character has brought many others into play and that is a good thing 🙂

Ok, su….enumerate what you like about Peter. I promise I will listen. LOL.
I don’t know what you mean by an “upfront” story. ….Do you mean that the viewer is aware of what/who he is? And, what he is about? If that’s the case, wen know who he is, but not his intent. Good? Bad? In-between?
I guess I am not being fair by not giving the character the benefit of the doubt……so, I will admit, subconsciously, it is the actor who does not jive with me. Am I allowed to say that?
We like some and some others not so much?
I never really throw the gauntlet directly in one’s face…..only half way. LOL. Soooo, we shall see.

New look was a shock. Thought I had gone to the wrong site. Tried to leave comments yesterday, but it wouldn’t take them so take 2.

Yay! So happy for Days. I was wondering if people would check out Days after their Emmys’ wins. I think the Daytime Emmys does a disservice to the shows by not being on TV. If the awards show were on TV, more people would see the winners and potentially check out the shows. Get the award show back on TV.

Glad to see Days doing well. The ratings should be up. The show has been great. Just wish Louise Sorel/Vivian weren’t gone.

Hey, Mo! I think “Vivian” will be back eventually. We saw her being brought back to life. Should be interesting…

Yes, I saw that. Was it Rolf? LOL I also read an interview where Louise said she thinks Vivian is done. I hope not. I love Louise and Vivian.

Seems she was just throwing people off. Guess they do whatever they can to still surprise viewers. It was the doctors formula that brought Will back to life? That was before my time with the show. Been watching about a little over a year. But, the doctor whose diary he’s reading, trying to find out what mystery drug was used. Seems like someone used it on Vivian. Did you see that scene? She was lying in a hospital bed, dead, and at the end you saw a hand inject her with something.

So, lol, at this point no one has to remain dead on this show! Who’s next?Andre?

I wasnt able to comment…hope this works now

I am truly glad to see the comment section up and running, like many this is my favorite part of the website– The new look was a bit jarring at first, but appreciate the need to change it up every now and then and to stay current with technology– and as I get older I do appreciate the fact the new format is easier to read- don’t have to dig out my glasses (LOL)
As for the topic at hand–this is good news for Days, but I worry this might be the excuse ABC will use to cancel its last remaining soap–I hope not.

GH doesnt really have much going on right now…they need a new producer and writers…and im so glad to see your name again…

Jimh; was that you I responded to before or is there a “Jim” and a Jimh?

Well done and well deserved Days! I love watching Days. So glad Theresa and Xander are back. I hope they hook up. Xander needs to be on contract, he makes a great and redeemable villain, unlike Stefan!

I wonder what Will found in Rolfe’s journal that surprised him. Makes me wonder if Serena and Paige were brought back to life and that’s mentioned in the journal, since Ben Weston is coming back.

Love Xander. Glad he’s back.

If Serena is alive, she can stay off screen. Her and her elephant story were big clunkers.

Yes, blake…this sounds like deja-vu. Did we discuss this? LOL. Yes, we did….as I said….Xander should hook up with Theresa….and Paige will reunite with JJ…..fingers crossed she was never entombed and is somewhere safe and sound.
Imagine Eve’ joy!….will her trespasses against her own daughter be forgiven, if not forgotten?

The move to 3rd is only temporary. GH will return!

what with Y&R, B&B… even these shows are separated by upwards of a million votes. add on another million difference less than… that leaves @DAYS, and GH.. with only a difference of 13,000 fans. yet still a million “back” from B&B. so it’s going to be a toss up between the better shows. WHICH as I’ve posted … SHOULD be a feast for GH and DAYS writing teams to just go for it, yeah? I don’t know if in this day and age… GH or DAYS could topple either or CBS shows. @DAYS from this time last year… improved roughly by a quarter of a million. so it’s a crap shoot.. i’m ecstatic… to see a fire lit under Frank Valentini.. if change is no imminent… he must be fired

I don’t like that after I leave a comment, instead of returning me to the comment page, it takes me back to the original page and I have to check on comments again.

I also have replies here but so far it doesnt seem that you get notified via email. So I have to look for the thread, open up comments to see if any reply comments are here.

I have to get used to this new format. I posted a reply to another poster’s comment, but didn’t see the usual “my reply is waiting moderation” or some such.

No worries, Lou…..I went through the same thing….but, all is running smoothly in this corner of the US. LOL…
I think you’ll be OK…..

Good I am glad for Days but they made a big mistake in letting Louise Sorel go

Neither ; here nor their ; “The Chew” has been CANCELLED. riotous applause ?

Michael Fairman: Hi! Congrats on your new site; it’s very comprehensive and must have been quite the feat getting it all together. But, I’d like to point out a few glitches that I’m experiencing; not sure if everyone is:

In the past, when I got an email from your site it alerted me that I had a reply. When I clicked on the link it took me to that reply. Now, it just tells me my comment has been approved. Are you going to be sending an email when we get replies to the comment and will it be directing us to it? I’ve had some replies but didn’t know it.

The site’s not as “user-friendly” now. Any updates?

Thanks, Michael!

Thanks for getting back, Michael, but Im just as confused as before! I get the first part; we’ll be getting emails to let us know we have a reply. Just like the “good old days…” 🙂 But if I understand u correctly we have to click on the comments and then look for the reply? Is it me, did I not understand u correctly?

No worries. I’ll figure it out when u start sending reply emails. (Didn’t get one re:your reply either. Just came back to the page to check out others comments and stumbled upon it.)

Thanks again.

Thanks, Rebecca – I had the same question!

All the media outlets that cover soaps were crowing how DOOL beat out GH for third place for the period covering the first week of May. You would have thought world peace had been agreed upon by world leaders.

However, while I’m happy DOOL is doing well, they slipped back into fourth place for the week ending May 11. There are only four soaps left, so someone has to be in first, second, third and fourth. I frankly hope all of the shows are doing well enough to be seen as valuable to their networks so we can enjoy our shows for decades to come.

It’s sad that one show’s fan base feels that they need to bash another’s when ratings go up or down. DOOL is the only show to have any increase in their ratings year over year, and it was an incredible increase of 292,000! GH lost 35,000, YR lost 92,000, and BB lost 196,000! Isn’t odd that the top rated shows lost so many while the bottom two didn’t lose as many or had significant gains? Something to think about.

DAYS and ‘Supernatural’ Alum Jensen Ackles Joins the Cast of Justin Hartley’s CBS Series ‘Tracker’

Look who’s joining Justin Hartley’s hit freshman drama, Tracker! None other than another soap alum, former Days of our Lives and Supernatural favorite Jensen Ackles.

In a reveal via Hartley’s Instagram on Thursday, Ackles is set to play Hartley’s on-screen brother on the CBS procedural drama. In Tracker, Colter Shaw is estranged from his brother, Russell, which has been a big part of the mystery of season one.

Ackles is best known for his long run as Dean Winchester in The CW’s Supernatural, a role he reprised in the prequel of the series The Winchesters. He also recently starred in ABC’s Big Sky as Sheriff Beau Arlen and in The Boys as Soldier Boy.

Photo: CBS

Jensen was the original Eric Brady on Days of our Lives, a role he played from 1997-2000, before departing for the world of primetime and film.  Eric was in love with Nicole played by Arianne Zucker. The part of Eric was recast with Greg Vaughan taking over the role in 2012.

In his Instagram post, Justin thanked everyone for watching Tracker, and then revealed Ackles as the surprise casting announcement in the role of Russell, while Jensen was playing pinball in the video! No word yet on when Jensen’s first episode as Russell will air. Stay tuned.

Check out Justin’s casting post featuring Jensen Ackles below.  So, what do you think of Justin and Jensen playing brothers on Tracker? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Days Of Our Lives

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on DAYS?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor. I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job.” I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you want to see Lisa Rinna reprise her Melrose Place role as Taylor McBride? Comment below.
