Fans are in for a treat today (Friday, May 22nd) when ABC’s General Hospital airs an encore presentation of one of the finest hours of soap opera in the history of the genre, with its 52nd anniversary episode from April 1, 2015.

In the episode, viewers finally learned what turned Luke (Tony Geary) into Fluke, which has been the on-going story for months; but it all lead up to the shocking reveal, when Luke revisited his past in his broken down childhood home and the demons that haunted him.

The episode goes from black and white to color, as Geary plays two roles: Luke and his abusive father, Tim, in one of the greatest performances of his career.

It is there we finally see Luke’s mother, Lena, played to perfection by Laura Wright (Carly).  And, it is in these scenes we meet for the first time Chloe Lanier as a young Patricia Spencer, who was so good, she was later cast as Nelle.  Playing the young Luke in another powerful performance was Joey Luthman,

Throughout the twists and turns, viewers learn that Luke not only killed his father, but accidentally killed his own mother who he loved.  It was a harrowing moment of deeply repressed memories.  The ending in the present time also features the Spencer family rallying around a distraught Luke in the hankie-inducing final scenes.

From the performances, to the script, to the direction, to the writing his one had it all.

So, will  you be watching today’s 52nd anniversary episode of GH?  Do you agree it was one of the finest episodes of the series? Comment below

There seems to be no place to discuss the Nurse’s Ball repeats that I for one am enjoying, watching my favorites and FF through the rest. Emma and her two co-horts were so cute. Dr.O, thinner but so talented as were many others. I cant wait to see Sonny and his dad sing Summer Wind again. That was really special. If we have to see repeats, what better way than watching and remembering all the wonderful performances by the cast.

I absolutely loved today’s episode! It was great!!

Hated this the first time around and hate it more the second time around. Luke left fans of GH with a bitter after taste. Why the hell do they not repeat reruns from over ten years ago? No one wants to watch recent repeats.

Hi Harry,
Sorry you aren’t enjoying the Nurse’s Ball repeats. I kind of like seeing all the talents these people have besides acting. Who knew Luke could sing, and you are probably saying ” he cant!”. Nice seeing the real Nickolas again. Can’t get used to this new guy. Harry, do you watch any of the other soaps, because if you do then you may be enjoying the really old reruns of Y&R. Cheer up, hopefully it won’t be too much longer and we’ll be back to normal.

I agree, Harry. Do you remember “A Daytime to Remember” in the 90’s? Every day for a week, each show aired one of their classic episodes. I haven’t watched General Hospital in months. I turned it on last week out of boredom, and “The Juilliard Bootleg,” Laura Wright’s talentless boyfriend was on screen. I immediately changed the channel. The show is in the toilet-has been for years.

Love this post! Great content Micahel.

Maurice Benard Confirms Steve Burton is Upcoming Guest on ‘State of Mind’

Over this past weekend, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) revealed that he is finally going to have longtime co-star, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) on his State of Mind You Tube series for a sit-down interview.

While speaking with Soap Opera Digest at Nancy Lee Grahn’s (Alexis, GH) ALS fundraiser, Maurice confirmed the taping is happening this week and should be posted in about three weeks time.

Benard shared, “I wanted Steve Burton and I’m shooting him Tuesday, my good friend, but he’s been through a lot and I’ve been asking for three years, but he’s finally going to do it.”

In addition, to the episode, it appears Maurice also confirmed he will be doing a You Tube live on Tuesday, May 7th as well at 3 pm PT possibly with Burton.

As GH viewers know, for year Jason was Sonny’s henchman, and his right hand. Now upon Jason’s return, the two are at complete odds, due in part to Sonny’s medication being completely manipulated by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and his growing paranoia.

As for what Burton will discuss, as Benard teased Steve has gone through a lot of personal ups and downs as well as professional, over the last three or more years, but has always landed on his feet. It will be interesting to hear this thoughts on those matters and how he soldiered through.

So, excited to see Maurice and Steve have a serious chat on State of Mind? Comment below.
