Sean Carrigan on the End of his Run as ‘Stitch’: “I Felt Very Honored That Y&R Trusted Me With Such a Heavy Storyline”

Photo: JPI

This week was the end of the line for Dr. Ben “Stitch” Rayburn’s return to Genoa City.   After being exposed as Mariah’s (Camyrn Grimes) kidnapper. “Stitch” went on the run, leaving the door open for a possible return down the line for his portrayer, Sean Carrigan, to redeem the character.

In his exit interview in this week’s Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Carrigan shared he sees “Stitch” as “Emotionally damaged at this point and looking for a lifeline, not knowing what that is, and how to find it.”

Sean revealed he was most proud of his final scenes with Melissa Ordway (Abby), expressing: “First of all, I feel very honored that Y&R trusted me with such a heavy storyline.  I felt it was my duty to try and give it the true emotions that would come from a deep place within ‘Stitch'”.   He went on to say, ” The explanation of why he did what he did is the payoff that I hope that audience wanted,” adding, “I’m sure everybody was scratching their heads a little bit over why “Stitch” did this, but I hope you saw the emotional trauma this character has been going through, so you can understand, in a twisted way, why he did this.”

Carrigan hopes to have a chance at wiping the slate clean for the character with a return one day to the top-rated CBS Daytime drama series.

So, what did you think about how “Stitch’s” storyline came to a close? Hope Sean comes back again to reprise the role? Comment below.

Poor Sean Carrigan!.. as if he didnt have to make the post of that anti-climatic story he has to continue to lie and act to the press?!
This story was a filler that stretched out three weeks too long!
Melissa Ordway and he actually have chem and the story couldve gone in sooo many more suspenseful directions: Stitch should ve been innocent with a capable writer and fooled the audience with the false accusation . Max could ve escaped his psch ward and kidnapped Mariah after following his dad and fearing he and Abby would get back together! Or since its a Chancellor baby any # of Chancellor enemies could ve been responsible, Kays kidnappers from awhile back, Ian Ward etc

I think this story was just the lead into Mariah and Devon wanting more involvement in the infant’s life. I see a custody storyline coming.

Lew S,
Ordinarily I’d agree with you about the custody thing, but as Devon considers Abby such a close friend, I don’t know if he could do that. Also, if and when Chance ever comes back, a lot of things are bound to change, including his ideas on all this, especially Tessa and Mariah’s living arrangements. Abby already resents Mariah’s closeness to her son and Mariah wanting to pull him closer. I hope this doesn’t ruin their friendship. What started out as such a boring SL may actually get pretty interesting.

Hi Violet–hope you’re well—–
I have to ask——
Are my young eyes going weird or—–
is the font/print too tiny to read the posts without a magnifying glass??
—–The print is excruciatingly small. yes???

SuOOO,
Iam hanging in there, thanks for asking. I think you are right and we may be able to adjust the font size in the settings. I’ll get back to you after I check it out.

SuOOO
I told you in my previous comment about trying to enlarge font in the settings, and I did and I think it worked. Give it a try and let me know. Someone else may know of a better solution, good luck.

Hi violet.. there are ways to enlarge but–
it’s also quite easy to adjust the font size for the posts and replies in the post-board codes….
Hopefully, Michael will consider doing that and enlarge the tiny-tiny print.. ..
take care be safe 🙂

I agree. More problems to come. There should have been counselling for all involved about the feelings and emotions involved in surrogate parents, even between good friends. And then there is the unreliable Chance due to his profession. I know it can be hard to know how much time goes by in a soap, but how could everyone not be worried about Mariah being missing for more than a day in her condition? Even if “she wanted to be alone.” To me that was a red flag. And the absolute disconnect Abby is having thinking Mariah can just hand over the baby and walk away, especially after the nightmare Stitch put her through. Abby to me is clueless.

rose,
Today was thinking the same thing. This spoiled daddy’s girl, doesn’t have a clue as you say, but is being so unfeeling and inconsiderate of Mariah, and that this is her right and not a privilege. Iam surprised she didn’t offer to pay Mariah.

I’m with Damien on this. As much as I dislike kidnap stories, there had to be better ways to handle this. And, after all those weeks of torture, it’s wrapped up in, what, two episodes? Never cared for the Stitch character but even he deserved better than this adolescent psychotic break with reality. Saying he saw a man buying protein bars at a 7-11 on the outskirts of town? Sounds like lyrics to a Springsteen song, circa 1980.

Loll Soaphound
This story hasty wrap up along with the Tara/ Kyle story wrap up is total toilet seat scripting

It is stunning that Josh Griffith continues on as headwriter. In a capable writer’s hands, this story could’ve been riveting drama. Shout-out to all the actors, for making “gold” of what they were handed.

What was the point oh yes to set up a fuss over custody etc I think we had that story from Griffith concerning Christian and now does the kid even exist did we wipe that out? Bill Bell would not even recognize the soap he created.

Kay,
Yes, where is Christain, and speaking of existing, why haven’t we seen that new baby? Do they not want to show a baby of color or are they just going to show Abby holding what looks like a loaf of bread forever?

Violet it probably has to do with Covid and no one wanting a infant on set.

Kay,
To tell you the truth you are probably right. I didn’t think of that but now Iam surprised they had the little guy that played Harrison on set so much.

I feel that Sean did a great job, as usual. There was so many possibilities with this SL. I thought he was the kidnapper right from the beginning but did not want it to be, so thought up kinds of other possibilities including Nina locking Mariah up. Even though. they say this is the end, I never say never and with Sean and his mentally ill son out there somewhere, there are endless scenarios to terrorize Abby and Chance.

I never was a fan of Stitch or the portrayer BUT this was semi-interesting and the story went flat, like that! Abby was the best thing that ever happened to Stitch. Why couldnt he desperately ask for a second “Chance!” Why couldnt Stitch reveal himself to Mariah, deliver the baby and keep her captive and have dialogue with Mariah about how this should have been his and Abby’s baby. Or, maybe capture Abby with Mariah and have great scenes between the three of them and finally the girls get the upper hand and foil Stitch! Send him away AND then have Max return in a couple years for revenge on what the girls “Did” to his father!

There was so much they could have done with this. Its pure laziness!

Wow Y&R brings you back for such a lame story line then just kicked you to the curb…so sorry they did that to you I think you are a better actor than half the idiots they got on this show! Good luck in all you do Y&R you really suck!

General Hospital

Lane Davies Joins the Cast of General Hospital Setting up a ‘Santa Barbara’ Reunion with Nancy Lee Grahn

Some very intriguing casting news out of General Hospital. The ABC daytime drama has cast former Santa Barbara favorite, Lane Davies (ex-Mason Capwell), in the role of Fergus Byrne, an attorney who crosses paths with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

According to TV Insider, Davies will make debut the week of May 22nd.  As soap fans know, together with the aforementioned Grahn, they created the Santa Barbara supercouple of Mason and Julia Wainwright. Davies portrayed Mason Capwell family from 1984 through 1989.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time in Port Charles for Lane. From 2002-2004 he played Dr. Cameron Lewis and also shared on-screen story with Grahn.  At that time Davies, played Xander Smith’s father.

GH fans are wondering about the last name of Davies new character, “Bryne”. If you recall, Alexis got herself involved with therapist Dr. Neil Bryne, who died when Harmony broke into Alexis‘ house and killed Neil by injecting him with opioids.

Taking to her Instagram, Grahn shared her excitement at the upcoming on-screen reunion with Davies, “It never gets old. We do 😂…. but it doesn’t 😍. Lookin’ forward to another romp.”

So, what do you think about Lane Davies returning to GH to play an attorney in Alexis’ orbit? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Back in 2019, Groff visited Live with Kelly and Ryan and discussed his debut on One Life while working at night on Broadway in Spring Awakening.

He shared on his experience on the soap, “I do remember my first day because I was doing Spring Awakening on Broadway at the time, and One Life to Live was my first time ever being on TV.  So I got this offer, and I was like, ‘Yes, I would love to be in a soap opera,’ and we finished Spring Awakening at 11:00 p.m. and I woke up the next morning at 4:0 a.m. to walk uptown to go to do One Life to Live, and I called my agent and left a message, and I said ‘You have to get me out of this, I can’t wake up at 4 o’clock in the morning!'” You can watch the clip below.

The 77th annual Tony Awards will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 16, with Tony and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose returning to host for the third time.
