Friday night, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ (NATAS) 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in 15 categories on a live telecast on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. When the dust settled, it was ABC’s General Hospital who took the night’s top prize for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series.
This marks GH’s continued record-breaking number of wins in this category and brings it up to 15 victories for the iconic show, which is currently in its 59th year on the air. GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini accepted the award on behalf of everyone connected with the show, when Drew Barrymore presented the final award of the night.

The night also brought with it the historic win of The Young and the Restless’ Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair). The actress became the first black actress in Daytime Emmy history to ever take home the Lead Actress Daytime Emmy. In the emotional highpoint of the evening, in terms of acceptance speeches and significance, Morgan spoke to the current generation breaking glass ceilings.
Morgan expressed: “We are breaking glass ceilings left right and center and I am so honored to be a vessel and to experience this moment. Everybody out there today, we can do this thing called equality and unity together.” In her speech, Mishael shared: “I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do, Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation they can strive to be the best.”
Veteran actor, John McCook who has played Eric Forrrester on The Bold and the Beautiful for over 35 years, finally won his first ever Emmy after four previous nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

The Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series trophies went to two standouts from General Hospital, Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) and Jeff Kober (Cyrus), while Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer), added another mantle to the GH trophy case with his first win for Outstanding Younger Performer.
Days of our Lives writing team led by Ron Carlivati took home the gold for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, while GH won for Direction.
The biggest winner in terms of total gold belonged to The Kelly Clarkson Show. When all was said and done, between the Creative Arts ceremonies held last weekend, and last night, the talk show took home 7 awards including: Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Talk Show Host. General Hospital followed with five total wins for Daytime Emmys 2022.
The ceremonies featured DAYS Suzanne Rogers (Maggie) anchoring the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to her longtime co-star John Aniston (Victor), who was not present, with the help of John’s daughter, Jennifer Aniston, who was seen on tape.
Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica, All My Children) made her first public appearance since the passing of her beloved husband, Helmut Huber and introduced the In Memoriam segment. Grammy-winner Michael Bolton performed his classic tune “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” during the tribute.
Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner were the hosts for the telecast, and with the overturning of the Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade decision on everyone’s mind last night, Turner gave a nod to how she and so many others felt, when Frazier told her how nice she looked in her dress. Nishcelle commented, “I chose this dress. It was my choice.” That moment received huge applause from the audience in attendance.

On the plus side General Hospital won 5 awards out of it’s 7 categories and it richly deserved them! I was also happy for John McCook and Ted King – not necessarily my first choices but all of those categories had terrific winners!
But I have to vent about the ridiculous choice for Best Actress. Sigh. My problems with Mishael Morgan winning were many: there were 3 better choices from her own show – Sharon Case, Melissa Clare Egan and Camryn Grimes – were all WAY better than her in 2021; Amanda is NOT a lead character on Y&R; her storyline was a total snoozefest; she was last in every single fan poll while Cynthia Watros – who deserved to win – was first in every single fan poll; CBS has now robbed GH actresses of the Emmy six years in a row. I completely disagree with this choice the panelists made. There was somebody obnoxious online who kept on repeating endlessly that she would win, which made me very nervous. I know it’s just a silly award but I enjoy awards shows despite my knowing how dumb they are! Mishael Morgan shouldn’t have even been nominated let alone win and I don’t care what anybody else has to say about it.
I don’t get why they couldn’t have taped a short acceptance speech from John Aniston.
That song from Michael Bolton was a time-waster.
The hosts were unobtrusive and kept things moving along fairly briskly.
I would have preferred actual clips of all the acting nominees. The clips packages were excellent but why was so much of what was on the GH package from 2022 rather than 2021?
Just super happy with General Hospital’s five wins! Wish it had won the other two categories as well though.
Well, they won’t even be nominated next year…. considering most of the scenes which would usually end up on Emmy reels are being taped with the temp-hires doing the scenes.

Mishael is a good solid actress but she simply didn’t deserve to win this year – there were too many much more deserving actresses who ought to have been recognized for their work instead of her. I enjoyed her work as Hillary but her work as Amanda hasn’t been interesting to watch. I was happy with 7 of the 9 winners this year in the daytime drama categories.
Hi Richard! While I believe MM is a beautiful and talented actress when given the material, she just wasn’t on very much this past year. Basically, she was in the background holding Devin’s hand as he idiotically fought for shared custody of the Newman-Abbott-Winters-Chandler baby. So Ned less to say, her nomination and subsequent win was puzzling.
Give it a rest……………It’s just sad to see you so worked up over MM’s win when she deserved it. SHUT UP and move on. GH won the most and you can’t even be happy about that.
I agree on many of your points, Richard and I don’t find them “hateful” in the slightest. Yes, Mishael Morgan’s win was historic, dramatic, and important. But…and it’s a big one…Amanda Sinclair is in no way a leading character. How can she be leading when Devon, her primary scene partner, is a supporting role? Doesn’t jive even by their own rules. Yes, she’s a wonderful actress but fair is fair. Then…we should have clips from ALL the acting categories; I think most fans will agree on that. It definitely heightens the suspense. On the credit side, Kelly Thiebaud, Jeff Kober, and terrific Nicholas Chavez were most deserved winners and I was thrilled by this. I’m also grateful to have the show televised; that was a treat.
Agreed, And I don’t “hate Mishael Morgan” at all – she was in the wrong category and there were too many other actresses more deserving, that’s my opinion – she won and maybe next year the winner will be more deserving.
Soaphound! Well said! I agree on all counts. I can’t even recall what Amanda’s main story was this last year. But I do vividly recall how Sharon stalled Nicholas from giving her the news of what she already knew- that Rey had died. Brilliant and realistic portrayal. Jeff Kober is a mad genius at playing the overly sensitive villain who is a killer, but also easily gets his feelings hurt. Nicholas Chavez is such a unique and riveting actor. He reminds me a bit of Rudolph Valentino. Kelly Thiebaud is also a naturally gifted actor. I didn’t know the Daytime Emmys was televised this year, and sadly missed it.

I remember what Amanda’s main story was last year, didn’t she help Devon take care ofthe baby when he came to visit, oh, and draw up the contract for he and Abby to be Co-parents.
Harry and Violet, I believe Amanda also had the unending, uninteresting story involving her grandfather being responsible for the death of her own father. Remember, at first she suspected Victor was involved, but was proven wrong. I think that was this voting year also. I try to force that story from my mind, like I did when I had chicken pox.

That it took until 2022 for a woman of color to win best lead actress is sad, especially with the great Debbi Morgan having so many good years at AMC (she did win a supporting award in the late 80s).
Wishful temporary stunt casting – Debbi as Portia’s mom on GH. Heck, they can resurrect her character, Ellen from the PC days if they choose. Imagine Debbi and Vernee Watson (Stella) getting into a verbal takedown- now that’s good soap.

I on the other hand am disappointed at always seeing the gh slant by no means whatsoever should gh have won best soap. The hospital fans are too funny they think there show should win every category so nice to see others get recognition and on a final note I hate I repeat hate the younger category all lumped into one

Well, my dreams of Carlivati being fired have gone up in smoke. Those other shows must be really bad if he is the best. Or Ron has, as my Dad used to say, “Pictures of the whole bloody affair”.
The panelists vote based on TWO episodes only! Ron’s overall storyline arcs are poor writing but the panelists don’t actually watch the whole entire year. That is why GH can’t win in this category in my opinion – individual episodes really aren’t the point of GH’s writing, which is accumulative in its impact.

Some of us are called haters just because we don’t agree. We just have different opinions. M.M certainly did not deserve best actress. Those judges can’t judge, that’s for sure.M.M was far better when she played her other character. This time she’s just someone hanging off of Devon’s arm with nothing worthwhile coming out of her mouth. John McCook is great, have watched him so many years but to give him an award for E.D and then pimping out his wife to another man, it took something he didn’t have but wasn’t worth an Emmy. Like Richard, Iam very happy for GH wins.

I was thrilled to be able to see everyone in one room again! Overall, I was very happy with the show.
As a GH fan, I was over the moon with their wins! I was also happy to see John McCook finally win an Emmy. I don’t watch Y&R or B&B, but was glad to see the love spread around. Scratched my head when DAYS won for writing, but I’ve watched that show since I was in kindergarten. So, bully for DAYS.
It was so nice to see Suzanne Rogers on stage. It’s a shame the teleprompter seemed to be giving so many people so much trouble, including her. Dear John Aniston richly deserved his award.
Susan Lucci’s appearance was very touching. It was nice to see her in the mix again. Someone hire her stat!
I liked Michael Bolton’s songs and thought they fit in perfectly.

Congrats to General Hospital as Best Daytime Drama! Kelly, Jeff, and Nicholas had a great year. Need Jeff Kober back on the show pronto. Should have got Writing to go with Directing. Surprised that Kimberlin Brown did not take Supporting Actress but she will easily win next year. Happy for John McCook after 35 years. Not aware of any DOOL or Y&R work.

It was so wonderful to see a real Emmy telecast with everyone present in the same room for the first time in a long time, and back on broadcast TV. I thought it was a well produced show for the most part. No cheesy skits or unnecessary filler or BS like we’ve seen in years past.
My only complaints were it would have been nice to see clips of the nominees in all the categories, particularly since NATAS no longer releases the Emmy reels to the public in advance of the show anymore, which I think is a great disservice to the viewers.
And what was with the cheesy movie soundtrack music when the winners would come to the stage to accept their awards? Someone from GH wins, I want to hear the GH theme, someone from Days wins, I want to hear the Days theme, and so forth. That should be an Emmy award show basic. It’s not that hard.
As a GH fan, I was thrilled to see them win their 15th Best Drama Series award. I have no idea what shows they submitted since they don’t release that information anymore, either. Congrats to Jeff Kober, Kelly Thiebaud, and Nicolas Chavez on their wins! All very much deserved.
I remember saying to a friend when the episode aired last year that if Kober submits the scenes where he was holding Laura and Portia hostage, has sort of a mental breakdown and gets shot, he’ll win an Emmy, he was that good that day. It appeared those were the scenes he submitted, based on the all too brief clip they showed. I was glad to be right.
I’m not gonna be one of those spoiled GH fans and say that they should have won every award. Every fan of each show thinks their favorite show was robbed when they don’t win.
Even though I don’t watch B&B, I know people that do and I know what a legendary actor he is in the business, so congrats to John McCook for winning his first Emmy after 35 years on the show.
And congrats to Mishael Morgan for being the first African American to win Best Lead Actress. I can appreciate and respect the significance any time a glass ceiling gets broken in the entertainment industry, or any walk of life for that matter.

I truly think actors and other nominees should make the effort to attend awards ceremonies when nominated. Jennifer Aniston could have appeared on video with her father if he couldn’t attend. Kelly Clarkson was a no show too. The viewers of these shows deserve that. The nominees certainly deserve their privacy but can fit in a major awards show.

The Young and the Restless iconic Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and her husband, Emmy-winning producer, Edward J. Scott have been named by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences as Lifetime Achievement Honorees at the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Melody and Ed will be presented with the award on June 7th during the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards (8 PM ET/delayed PT) broadcast live on CBS and streaming live and on-demand on Paramount+*.
In a statement Melody and Ed expressed, “We are honored and humbled to receive this recognition from NATAS. Throughout our decades-long careers in front of and behind the cameras, we have had the opportunity to work not only with each other, but also with an incredibly talented pool of people who excel in their crafts and are passionate about the art we create in daytime television. We are grateful to have worked side by side with them and to be included with such esteemed recipients who have made their mark in our industry. Melody Thomas Scott recently celebrated 45 years in the role of Nikki Newman, having joined the show in February 1979. Scott’s character has matured from the girl from the wrong side of the tracks to the serial’s luminous and resourceful leading lady. After garnering a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in 1999, she went on to win in the same category for the Soap Opera Digest Award in 2001 and received four Soap Opera Update Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress (1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996). Scott began her career at age three. She studied singing, tap dancing, ballet and jazz and became one of the world-famous “Meglin Kiddies,” performing in USO shows as she started booking national commercials and guest spots on such series as “Wagon Train,” “My Three Sons,” “Ironside” and a recurring role on “The Waltons.” Scott made her motion picture debut at age eight when she was cast by Alfred Hitchcock as the young Tippi Hedren in the thriller “Marnie.” She has co-starred with legendary actors Clint Eastwood, Geraldine Page, John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Scott has worked on stage and in numerous television shows and was the subject of Lifetime Television’s “Intimate Portrait.” As a lifelong fan of “I Love Lucy,” Scott served as a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center in Jamestown, N.Y., which is committed to preserving the legacy of the great comedienne. Edward J. Scott is a six-time Daytime Emmy Award-winning producer who has played a pivotal role in the historic development of the soap opera genre for nearly five decades. Scott is currently supervising producer for The Bold and the Beautiful, the #2-rated daytime drama in the U.S. and the most-watched daily drama in the world, which is nominated for 12 Daytime Emmy Awards this year. Several stars from from daytime drama television past and present are scheduled to participate for an evening of stories of emotional on- and off-screen experiences with cancer, and moving tributes to beloved daytime favorites who lost their battle plus musical performances.

Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

Haley Pullos Receives 90-Day Jail Sentence Following DUI Charge And Wrong-Way Car Crash

Former General Hospital actress, Haley Pullos (ex-Molly Lansing-Davis) is going to be doing time in jail, exactly one-year after her arrest from a hit and run wrong-way car collision.
The crash resulted in bodily harm and damages to the other driver, and now Pullos who pleaded “no contest” to the charges and will serve 90 days in jail. She was taken in custody on Monday, April 29th, after the ruling.
According to Haley’s attorney, Mark Daniel Melnick, the 25-year-old actress struck a plea deal and after her three months in jail will be sentenced on July 29th. As part of that sentencing, she must serve five years probation, 200 hours of community service and pay $8,260 in restitution to Courteney Wilder, the other driver in the crash and her driver’s license is revoked for a year.

According to TMZ, the plea deal for Pullos has the “no contest” to one DUI, while the judge dropped the felony DUI causing bodily injury and misdemeanor hit and run charges.
Melnick said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Haley is very grateful to the court for a minimum sentence and for recognizing her remorse and the strides she has made in her sobriety.”
Pullos had played the daughter of Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn) on the ABC soap opera since 2009, but after her car crash and DUI she was replaced by three different actresses until the show finally settled on the current Molly, Kristen Vaganos.

Back in April 29 of 2023, and at the scene of the crash, the police found edibles and mini-bottles of tequila in Pullos’ vehicle and that she was intoxicated. As it turned out, this was to be the second hit and run in the evening for Pullos who had an earlier collision with another car.
The courts decision follows a year-long legal battle with Haley’s pleas changing throughout it, ranging from “not guilty” to “no contest”. She sought treatment for her drinking at a rehab following the crash.
Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrayed Pullos’ on-screen mom took to X on Monday night, April 29th and shared on the sentence and the specific jail, Haley will be serving time: “As Haley’s TV mom I can tell some truths about her as I’ve loved her since she was little girl. She made a HUGE mistake, knows it, owns it & has spent the last yr doing EVERYTHING imaginable to take responsibility 4 it. It’s not that I oppose jail. It’s that I oppose this jail.” The jail in question by Grahn is the L.A. county jail.
