Head Writer Ron Carlivati on Bo & Hope Return: “This Is Old School Days of our Lives, and It’s Something That The Audience Has Waited a Very, Very Long Time to See”

Photos: NBC/Peacock

Next week, begins the continuation of the shocking story arc that started last summer on Peacock’s limited streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter 2.

In it, DAYS fans learned that Bo (Peter Reckell) has been kept in cryogenic cylinder for years, and was brought back to life by Stefano’s daughter, Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson).

Now, circle March 16th for Reckell’s first episode back as Bo and March 17th as Kristian Alfonso’s first episode back as Hope to the mothership and Days of our Lives.

Head writer, Ron Carlivati previewed the storyline in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue on newsstands now.

Carlivati shared: “We pick up Hope where we left her off.  She had gone though this whole experience with Harris Michaels (Steve Burton), finding out that he was in league with Megan Hathaway, and we ended her on ‘Beyond Salem’ like, ‘I have to bring Megan Hathaway to justice.  I have to find her and make her pay.”‘

While Hope is on mission, she will also have Harris Michaels back in the mix, and as the head scribe shares, “Hope is on a collision course with Bo, and she’s unaware of it.”

As to what lies ahead for viewers, Ron revealed: “This is old-school Days of our Lives, and it’s something that the audience has waited a very, very long time to see.  You won’t want to miss it.”

Check out Peacock’s promo for the return of Bo and Hope below which teases that while most people get over their high school sweethearts, this one never did, alluding to Megan’s past relationship with Bo, which is the impetus for her revenge plot.

Now let us know, are you looking forward to seeing how Bo and Hope’s enduring love story continues? Comment below.

Can’t wait

So excited for them to be back

I am looking forward to Bo and Hope’s return. I’ve been watching Days since I was 4 years old and still watching it to this day. I remember climbing up on the sofa next to my grandma and watching it everyday. Bo and Hope are my favorite couple of all time. So so glad they are coming back.

They were the greatest couple ever follows by Steve and Kayla.

Yes so looking forward to this.

I’m happy, I’m excited! I have always loved Hope. Thank goodness they got Kristian Alfonso to return, her absence has been palpable.
For me, I have always said that if Days of Our Lives ends, the last scene should be a kiss between Bo and Hope.

Can Carlivati write for Bo and Hope? That is the central question. Remember Ron: Old school DOOL is character-driven, not plot driven.

That is indeed the question… because Ron seems to have trouble with writing for couples of any kind. The only pairings that seem to be safe in Salem actually ARE the old “supercouples” from the 80s, like John & Marlena or Steve & Kayla…. and even those are subjected to a constant string of kidnappings, comas, and most recently, fake deaths that John & Steve don’t even know are fake yet, though I would guess that is about to change.

As much as I hate to say it, I doubt Bo & Hope are back to stay. What we’re about to see in the next few weeks will probably be the storyline originally intended for the third season of “Beyond Salem”, but now that Days itself is on Peacock, there wasn’t a reason to carry on with the “spinoff” (if that’s even the correct term for it).

One would hope they have Bo around for whenever they officially write Victor’s death into the show, because it would be completely ridiculous for him to NOT be there. But after that, I’m guessing you will see Bo & Hope sailing off into the sunset again. Which admittedly is a better ending than him dying of brain cancer, at least. Or the fact that 90% of Bo’s return that time was wasted on him alone in a dungeon.

Currently watching him destroy Belle as a viscous sister with a foul mouth. I keep yelling at the screen saying That’s not how Belle would act.

Yeah…. Belle’s never got along very well with Sami… which probably goes back to Sami making a dumb teenager mistake and trying to sell Belle on the black market when she was a baby…. but she was never this hostile to Eric. And one would think the alleged “death” of their mother might bring them closer together. Maybe it’s because they subconsciously know she’ll be back. It’s not like it’s the first time Marlena has died.

I can’t squeal loud enough, or smile big enough to show how happy and grateful I am for this gift from Days!!! I’m over the moon

I love Bo and Hope and I am so happy that they are coming back. I hope it is not a temporary return. Bo is the best character ever on DOOL and I can’t wait to see him again.

Yes to bo and hope

No to ej and Stefan poisoning each other a little to much

Of course it’s “old school”; he’s never had an original idea in his life, and the ideas he does have he merely repeats over and over and over.

I can’t wait. I love Bo and Hope. They will always be my favs

Not fair for everyone that watched for decades!!

Looking forward to seeing Bo n Hope back n Salem

I am so excited to see Bo and Hope back together. I have missed both of them!

I have watched Days since 1975. The return of Bo and Hope is so exciting. Brings great new storyline that so many have missed. Welcome back Bo and Hope. I have for years wanted to meet both of you in person!!!

Don’t want to have to get it on Peacock, just wish it was back on NBC!!!

I too wished it was still on NBC. I don’t get peacock. I can’t afford it. Pay to watch my soap is ridiculous. Have watched it since 1975.

Definitely! Love the true loves of Days! Sure would like to see Sami and EJ back together and EJ finally a permanent good guy fighting his crime family with his mama behind him all the way! Bring all 4 ladies back from the dead!!!! Welcome home Bo and Hope!

Finally!!! This is exactly what every fan who has watched faithfully for decades has been waiting for. Bo and Hope!!!!!

Bo & Hope won’t solve the problem of the unbelievable
story lines. Enough of bringing people back from the dead and stupid prisms! Enough of Greece! I could write better than this!

I’m so glad they are coming back I was so bored with the drama of the new younger couples. I’ve been watching since the late 70’s woth grandma & Mom. Still watching was getting kinda bored though

Love them and ron

No , not the story line I would like to see. I have been watching dool for as long as I can remember. Do something interesting and exciting with the characters they have . Bo is dead and should stay that way and Hope left the show so let her stay gone . I hope this is temporary! Get away from the dead coming back story line . It is OLD !! Make people happy and go back to the way show was

Bo was already revealed to be alive in Beyond Salem 2 which is still available for streaming on Peacock.

Beyond Salem is terrible! I tried but couldn’t!

I can’t wait, thank you for bringing them back. I won’t miss a episode,!!!

Looking forward to watching this week.

OMG! Yes, I am so excited to see Bo back and with Hope on a mission! Total old school DOOL! Can’t wait….been counting the “Days”!

I hope their son Zack is revealed to be alive. That was a dreadful mistake killing that young child after all the story he created and was embroiled in.

Stefano could have kidnapped him … Or maybe Megan did as a way of ensuring Bo would comply with her demands! Or because she wanted to raise Bo’s child. I think viewers would accept any ludicrous to have Zack alive.

I have always loved Days of Our Lives. And watched it for years. It made me sad when it moved to Peacock, as I do not have that.

VERY MUCH looking forward to seeing Bo and Hope together again !!!! Best thing to happen to DOOL in a LOONG TIME !! Lol

hope theyre not making him a villan after taking it of nbc now you have to pay

As a senior, I do not have peacock, so I have not been able to watch anyway. Changing things all around when seniors can’t afford the extra to see their favorite shows is sad.

I think the new story line is crap. But what is worse is the plunging neck lines on woman who r going to the office , it’s disgusting. Chanel is a horrible actress.. very disappointing story line, treat the audience like morons.

I hope they get back together!!! Just deprogram Bo!

I hate the storyline now! Kristin and Megan are boring! The entire but in Greece is not believable!
Please get back to love, scandal, deception & the
problems if every day life! I have to stop watching bc it’s very boring!

Please please these storylines are long , boring and ridiculous, paying to watch this is more frustrating. The show needs to get rid of writers and hire new ones, I’m up for hire. The whole Sloan Chanelle story is just DUMB! THE Bo and Hope thing is dragging either kill him off for good or let them live happy!!! Their hair and makeup is just sad, and acting is not believable anymore!!! Fix it quick!!!

And with this Dimera Ceo position in 1yr they changed Ceo 6 times, come on, thus is not a Soap it’s a circus of a show

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. SU2C research has contributed to the development of more than 10 scientific breakthroughs that have significantly impacted the field and provided new treatment options for breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, pancreatic, pediatric and prostate cancers.
