Adam Huss Shares on Playing General Hospital’s Nikolas Cassadine: “I’m Very Passionate About The Role”

Photo: IMDb

General Hospital fans have been all up in their feelings, as of late, when it comes to who they want to see play Nikolas Cassadine. However, as of now, the part is being played by Adam Huss.

In story, it was revealed that Nikolas is alive and recovering well from his injuries (and his coma) after being clobbered over the head with a statue by Ava Jerome (Maura West) many months ago, and that Austin (Roger Howarth) has known about this all along and where he is hiding out.

Huss subbed for Marcus Coloma several times during the former Nikolas’ three-year run on the ABC daytime drama series from 2o19-2023. Before Coloma, viewers were used to Daytime Emmy-winner, Tyler Christopher in the notable role from 1996-1999, then he was replaced by Stephen Martines 1999-2003. Christopher returned to the role and played it from 2003-2016.  In addition, Nick Stabile had filled-in for Christopher as the dark prince in 2016.

Adam, took to his IG account on Thursday, to share a special message and ‘thank you’ to the GH fans on his recent return:”Wanted to send love & massive gratitude out for all the beautiful support and comments from you wonderful General Hospital fans. I’m very passionate about this role and can’t answer all of the messages, but EVERY KIND ONE means the world to this guy!”

According to Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue, they share Huss is ‘back for another stint’ as Nikolas.

So, excited to see just how Huss puts even more of his own spin on Nikolas in the episodes ahead? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I welcome Adam, a fine actor.

Love his Nicholas. I don’t find a thing about Adam Huss to not like. Looking forward to GH’s fall season.

I know he has had his troubles but i find it odd that articles like this never seem to mention that Stephen Martines/Coltin Scott also played Nikolas, for 4 years (1999-2003). At any rate, Adam is my favorite of all the Nikolas portrayers.

This article mentions Stephen Martines

He not the best one !!! Tyler Christopher is one of them but the original one was the best then Tyler

Tyle IS the original; he’s the first actor to play Nikolas and the one who played him the longest.

Colton Scott Tyler Christopher an Marcus Coleman are the best ones who ever played nim cassdine

I’m sorry but Marcus was a mouth breather who could not emote to save his life. I understand folks like his good looks but he’s just not a very good actor. This became glaringly obvious when he was in scenes with Nicholas Chavez (Spencer). I felt like Maura West and Genie Frances were always trying to prop him up and he just couldn’t keep up.

Hi Harry! Hope you’re well. I have to disagree regarding Marcus. I thought he was able to convey a wide range of emotions without over-acting. He had a mellow vibe, and while others were singing Nicholas Chavez’s (Spencer’s) praises I was holding my ears or muting him. I thought he was WAY over the top bordering on hysteria during his outburst scenes (I think he’s much improved since). Marcus was able to react by showing hurt and disapproval; disbelief, on his face, while saying in a stern voice or in a hurt manner how he felt about Spencer’s words and actions, without it becoming a screaming match. If Michelle Stafford was still playing Nina and she and “Spencer” got into it, the TV screen would probably have shattered; self-combusted. lolllll

Some articles “forget” about Stephen Martines because he’s a fugitive conman wanted in several states, and that’s not something you want associated with the show.

It’s really too bad, because he did a decent job as Nikolas 2.0. Not as good as Tyler Christopher, but he played fairly well against the first return from popsicle land of his daddy Stavros back in the early 2000s.

It could be said that the only reason Marcus Coloma got the part in the first place is because he looked a lot like Martines… who obviously was not coming back. Unfortunately he couldn’t act as well as Martines did.

Hello, I am glad that they did not kill off Nicholas, eventhough Nicholas is a new character.

It’s Nikolas, not Nicholas.

Scott
I’m flabbergasted by the constant wrong spelling of a character that’s been on the canvas for over 25 years. Are that many people voice transcribing their comments? Michael clearly spells the character name in the headline and story.

I swear some just… don’t pay attention. MANY soap characters, honestly. Steffy from The Bold and the Beautiful is another one I constantly see misspelt.

I was just about to check you on misspelt, but I just learned that’s the British way, so I learned something new.

Lesley Webber and Viki Lord are two others I’ve seen confused over the years.

Hmm no Nicholas is a legacy character if anything. He is Laura’s son and was first on in his teenage years…

New to the show?

I don’t like the Nickolas bring back the other one

No. Also, it’s Nikolas, not Nickolas.

Yea, it’s the Russian spelling of the name.

True enough… though the rewrite of the Cassadines as “Russian” was a dumb idea from the start.

The OG Cassadines were Greek. Mikkos is a very Greek name. Their island family compound is off the coast of Greece. I’m not even sure where the whole Russian thing came from… unless they claim that was Helena’s family background. But that doesn’t work, because Alexis had a very Russian sounding name (Natasha Davidovich or whatever it was) and obviously she had no genetic ties to Helena.

Tyler Christopher will always be Nikolas to me. Please bring him back.

We need to accept the fact that this won’t be happening in the near future.

Steve Martinez is Colton Scott real name. Said he was a recast 1999 to 2003.. he played a good Nik an so did Tyler Christopher. An Marcus colman

Glad joshua is returning to stir things up and Adam huss back in action with Ava now Nina needs to go. Thanks for saving Sasha good job coty

I like Adam’s take on Nicholas. He does not come across as weak and winy as the last one.

They to keep him!

I am so sick and tired of seeing Laura’s children treated so badly and sent off the canvas so often. Laura is a central character on GH and her family has been decimated. TPTB need to right that wrong. I know Cyrus and Martin were added as her long-lost brothers but, golly-days, give us back her children.

Keep Adam on contract!

Adam Huss is fine, but lacks the touch of the aristocratic that Valentin conveys effortlessly. Huss can develop this combination given time. Plus, he looks like his age is about right for the roles.

And that passion of which he speaks, transfers over. He stepped onto this role during a climatic peak for this character’s story arc, and pulled in an emotionally gut wrenching performance. When Marcus played Nikolas, I felt nothing and either tended to chores while he was on screen or fast forwarded. If we can’t have Tyler, whom I loved, then I’ll happily accept Adam. He’s damn good.

Sorry but GH should have Never gotten rid of Marcus Colmes his was a fantastic Nicholas. Adam Husk is a good Actor but not for the role of Nicholas

Marcus can’t act. That’s why he was let go. The end.

I don’t really like Huss in the roll of Nikolas. I wish Tyler Christopher would reprise the roll. I think is waa the best actor in that roll.

GH’s Adam J. Harrington Reveals the Behind the Scenes Story of Becoming John “Jagger” Cates

When Adam J. Harrington showed up on all-new episodes of General Hospital, it shocked viewers of the long-running ABC soap opera, because he was the recast John “Jagger” Cates.

The character was previously played more than 30 years ago by Antonio Sabato Jr., and as fans of the soap have seen, Harrington’s version of Jagger and his circumstances are quite different. As it turns out, Adam was in the dark at what GH role he would be eventually cast in.

Speaking with GH co-stars, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) on their Daily Drama podcast, Harrington shared the behind the scenes journey that led him to being the new version of John.

Photo: ABC

Adam shared, “I went into a chemistry read with Laura Wright (Carly) for a different character. I was told I wasn’t going to get the character, but hang tight, there’s something else. Then, that kind of took a couple of months and now we’re in December (2023), and then all of a sudden it was like, ‘here you go.'”

Once Adam was given a role on GH, he explained, “I still didn’t know who I was playing. I should have asked at that point. So the deal gets done, and I go, ‘By the way, who am I playing?'”

Photo: ABC

That’s the point where the GH powers-that-be let him in on just what he was about to take on. “They sent me a one sheet with John “Jagger” Kates in the description,” shared Adam. “It wasn’t until I went on YouTube and spent a good three or four days, watching all of Steve (Burton’s) storylines in the nineties (that I figured it out). By the way, they were fantastic. The production value … it was amazing the level of the acting, and the relationships you guys had. I really enjoyed it. So, that’s how I found out (about the character).”

Burton and Anderson asked Harrington about his thoughts on being a recast. “I thought it was important to go back to his circumstances and his upbringing, because that wouldn’t change no matter what he had become in the 20 or 30 or 70 years since we’ve seen him,” Adam shared. “I looked at what Antonio Sabato Jr. did and thought, ‘There was no way in hell I can even touch that or even come close, nor do I want to.’ The only thing I recognized was given his upbringing and what he’d gone through, it was a common sense of humor in there that’s either used defensively or as a way of getting through the world.”

Photo: JPI

As to how Adam should approach the part given it was a recast, he noted, “What I had been told from the brass is don’t worry about following that same emotional storyline. He’s gone away for a very, very, very long time, become successful and he’s come back. Basically, they were saying, you bring in you.”

Being part of the fabric of GH for awhile now, Harrington expressed, “I will say this about my experience so far. I am in absolute awe of the cast and the crew and watching how you do this on a train that refuses to stop. I said to a friend, ‘I’m on a train that’s going a hundred miles an hour, and they slow down to about 90 to kick you off after your scene is done.'”

So, what are your thoughts on Adam as John “Jagger” Cates after now seeing how the role has evolved and changed since its original version over 30 years ago? Comment below.
