General Hospital Preemptions This Week for MLB Wild Card Playoff Games

Photo: ABC

This week, General Hospital will be preempted on Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5, and potentially again on Thursday October 6, due to Major League Baseball’s wild card playoff games airing on ABC.

In the best of 3 games, the Texas Rangers face the Tampa Bay Rays in an American League wild card series, starting on Tuesday with a 3:08PM EST start time. If the series goes a full three games, then Thursday’s GH will also be preempted.

Encore episodes of GH will be seen on the east coast on Tuesday and Wednesday, while all other time zones will be preempted for the game.

In addition, GH will not be streaming the episodes on Hulu or ABC.com as is it a nationwide preemption.  That way, everyone will begin to see the all-new episodes on the same day when they resume.

Hopefully, Thursday, GH will resume with an episode that teases: Spencer and Trina affirm their feelings, Tracy has a slip of the tongue, Valentin surprises Anna, and Sasha is in danger.

So, going to miss GH for the next few days? Comment below.

Is Blair Cramer ever coming back? The only reason I’m recording this show is to see Kassie DePaiva. I loved the scene she had with Michael K Knight. I hoped she’d be around a little longer than one scene with him and one with Jane Elliot.

Hahaha, stfu

I do not know who/what Kassie DePaiva is..

Just another one dug up from the soap opera graveyard…LOL

Seems the writers/whoever have

been doing a lot of digging lately.

She’s an actress who played a very popular character, Blair, on OLTL. She’s also been on Days. No need to be rude to people who like the actress and the character that was brought to GH for a short appearance. As for “digging” most viewers who are into the soap genre like to see soap actors either join the show OR bring their popular character to another show whether for an episode or longer.

Kassie was only brought on for 2 episodes.

I don’t think she needed to come back from all, but admittedly, OLTL never aired in Hell, so I don’t have any attachment to the character.

Problem is, they wasted her appearance on something that doesn’t make sense. Again, not an OLTL fan, but I believe she was married to Todd Manning, right? So how did she become Marty’s “ex wife” in the years since her last appearance… and Marty’s been in Port Charles 3 or 4 years now himself.

If they had to bring her back at all, they should have done so for a storyline that was actually relevant to the current stories on GH. And that is the story that was left hanging in mid air when the OLTL transplant characters were abruptly pulled off of GH, due to the legal red tape involved with the Prospect Park streaming revival of OLTL & AMC. Namely the question of whether Lorenzo Alcazar was hanging out in Llanview under a different name, while most of the Port Charles residents believed he was dead (except for Jason… but he was unavailable for comment at the time, having recently been “presumed dead” himself).

And the question of Alcazar’s whereabouts is very relevant right now, because nobody fits the profile of the mysterious “Pikeman” mercenary smuggling organization better than Alcazar. They are doing the exact same things Alcazar previously tried & failed to do in Port Charles.

So the Blair character could have served that story by picking up where it left off in 2012. Instead of wasting time with another dead end story that’s already wasting the talents of a few GH veteran cast members… this whole ridiculous “Deception” thing.

Why do we h have to give up three days or more of our show for sports fans? Why can’t they show the games on some sports channels, God knows there’s enough of them.

Totally agree with you

Cuz MLB is part of Disney/ABC.

Enough said, They screwed up Disney World, why not make life miserable for everyone else

100% agreed.

Gee, I was actually afraid everyone would be jumping down my throat, like where’s the spirit, etc? Glad to know there are others like me.

I could care less about Baseball and agree that with all the sports channels they should be showing this there where people opt to watch it instead of taking our show off the air. Even if ABC owns MLB they can have an ABC Sports channel. Would actually think that their views would go up because if people can watch their shows they will be tuned into ABC while those who want to watch MLB will be tuned into that channel. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone..

I think it stinks that some stupid games that will be on other channels will be on during the day and interrupt our soaps. Hope it’s a ratings disaster. When will the networks stop this stupidity? Ugh1

I’m thinking about getting done with it all together. I’ve been watching General Hospital for years. , this is how they lose fans from watching the show , baseball don’t even start till after GH , I don’t understand why they have not show it. Baseball starts at 3 PM

Same goes for political preemptions

I’d rather see GH! So many sports channels, and other useless shows, but they have to interrupt a popular soap! We all are not Baseball fans, and I live in Tampa Bay area, Tampa Bay Rays in playoffs, big whoop!

Disney owned ABC has a sports channel ESPN yet they gotta show baseball on abc? WTF!

Since we must endure MLB and the Rangers won yesterday (best 2 of, everyone please root for them today so GH is not pre-empted for a THIRD day tomorrow.

Why can’t U put general hospital on at late at night some where about 2am.

They used to do that. Or leave it up to the affiliates. And in the age of digital TV, any ABC affiliate could have the option available to play GH on one of the subchannels. And of course they could always release it to Hulu for streaming.

Or just play the ball games on the sports network they already own.

There are any number of options they could have used, any one of them making more sense than a nationwide blanket pre-emption.

Late night airings typically occur when an episode is preempted shortly before or during airtime in one market or region (ie. for “breaking news”. Nowadays, if they know ahead of time that GH can’t air as scheduled in a large chunk of the country, it is preempted nationally.

Preemption is probably not the best term here as no show was produced to air Tuesday or Wednesday as it was known months ago that baseball would have the time slot those days. Thus, an episode intended for Tuesday won’t air on a later date (as would occur with a news related preemption.).

CORRECTION Best 2 of 3 wins series. If Rangers win today it’s all over and we have our favorite soap back tomorrow.

So unfair that they didn’t air for everyone to see season 61 episode 21 like ABC quoted they would here. So what happened to Sasha?? Why didn’t you air it on demand?

Breaking News

Patrick Mulcahey OUT as General Hospital Co-Head Writer

After various reports surfaced, it has been confirmed that Patrick Mulcahey is out as the co-head writer of General Hospital. This is after a very short tenure of under five months.

Mulcahey was named to the position back in January of 2024 along with longtime GH writer Elizabeth Korte. They replaced the team of Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, who had been the head scribes of the long-running ABC daytime drama since 2019.

A source informed Soap Opera Digest that stories created by the co-head writing team of  Mulcahey/Korte team will air through mid-summer. However they added “There will be more news to share at a later date as to the composition of the new writing team.”

In addition, eagle-eyed soap fans have seen that in recent episodes former co-head writer, Chris Van Etten has been credited, as he is reportedly a breakdown writer with the show.

Soap Opera Network is reporting that Korte has assumed the head writing duties solely on her own at the moment, while Buzz blog initially reported Mulcahey’s exit.

We will have more on the GH writing team evolution in the days ahead.
