GENERAL HOSPITAL: Spencer is Laid to Rest; Heather Rants on Kevin over Esme’s Death

Courtesy/ABC

Wednesday’s February 7th episode of General Hospital was a somber one as Port Charles gathered to say goodbye to Spencer Cassadine at a gravesite service honoring the young man, who is now presumed dead.

With Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) reciting the eulogy, her words were superimposed by moments of Spencer family and friends and of course his girlfriend Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) mourning him – each putting a white rose on his grave.

Returning for the funeral was Cameron Webber (Willian Lipton), Spencer’s best friend, who had an emotional reunion with Trina, and of course, Josslyn (Eden McCoy). Cameron tells Trina he’s so sorry for her loss, but she says she is sorry for him as she is well aware that Spencer, Joss and Cam have been friends since they were children. Laura, Kevin, Cyrus Sonny, Ava  Portia, Curtis Sam, Dante, Joss, Kristina, Gregory, Finn and Liz are also there.

Later, Liz (Rebecca Herbst) goes to visit Esme’s grave which has a signpost in it, not a tombstone. Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) joins her and places a white rose on the dirt in front of the marker for Esme.

All of a sudden, a prison guard a shackled Heather Webber (Alley Mills) arrive at the gravesite, and Heather cries out for her daughter, Esme. She then lays into Kevin, blaming her death on him, for the mere fact that he resurrected his serial killer brother, Ryan. It was Kevin who tried to trying to cure him, and then unleashed him back into the world so Ryan could get his hands on Esme and twist her mind.  In the end, Heather tells Kevin to do better by Ace than he did for Esme or there will be hell to pay.  Next, Heather is taken away.

Now home and devastated, Trina tells Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Portia (Brook Kerr) she is not returning to Paris for the semester and she is also not going to go to PCU. In fact, she’s not attending school at all. Eventually, an emotional Trina Trina heads out. She later pulls her turtle dove out of her jacket pocket and recalls the time Spencer gave it to her and the importance of it in Sprina’s relationship.

What did you think of Spencer’s funeral? Was it emotional for you? If so, what was your favorite part? Seeing Cameron return? Heather lash out at Kevin? Trina remembering the love of her life? Or another moment? Comment below.

Like many, I was confused why there was fresh dirt (frozen ground in February) for two graves that had no bodies.

Alley Mills is good, but oh boy, there was quite a bit of scenery chewing going on. Lindstrom and Herbst are two of the best actors on the show. Very powerful moments in the seldom scenes they share together. Heather was right (in a convoluted way) that Kevin does share some blame.

Loved the scenes with Heather and as I’ve said before, she may be Kookoo, but she is so right on the ball sometimes and I really felt for her loss which has been so much over the years. I loved her convo with Liz, asking her to watch over Ace and as you said, she wasn’t far off the way she lit into Kevin about his brother. Also, I just thought that dug up dirt was completely stupid and confusing and laying those white Roses on top was just nasty.

It was almost unbearable to see Cameron as it reminded me what a loss to show it is to have William Lipton offscreen. I know it’s his choice, so I have so support him, but I hope he will come back this summer. The show needs Cam in its younger set, and he is just so good.

I agree, why dig graves with no bodies? One would think Esme would have been cremated..but then there is no body to burn… over played the funeral.

The highlight for me was seeing William Lipton as Cameron back. As for the whole funeral service, it felt rushed and odd to have fresh graves without bodies. The eulogy by Alexis was nice. But I would have liked to see Trina, Cameron, and Joss speak about Spencer. Ally Mills was great!

I wonder if Chavez will really return? I think 50% chance. I wish we had seen the actual funeral.

Why bury caskets with no bodies? Also Ally Mills was way over the top and just embarrassingly bad!

I know that in real life not everyone can show up to a funeral service, and there’s always many reasons for that, and that is also true on soaps, still the amount of no show for Spencer funeral was interesting mainly because they are suppose to be related to him, for example, Michael, Molly, Aiden are all supposed to be cousins, even if that’s not the case what about the fact that They know Sonny or Laura? no support for them? Where was Valentine? Charlotte?, I mean Cyrus showed up for crying out loud, Did Martin and Molly have court cases? and where was Carly? I mean I know she’s in everything, but what was she doing that she couldn’t show up to her dead best friend son funeral? and crazy heather got to visit an empty burial yet, Nicholas wasn’t? Emma couldn’t fly in either? okay enough of my ranting, lol, it was more of an observation. lastly, the scenes with Kevin, liz and crazy heather were intense, sad and the whole time I kept thinking was how beautiful Rebeca Herbts is, like damn girl your just beautiful, but I’m glad someone that’s not related to Esme showed empathy for her.

I find it hard to get too invested in these funerals when you know the characters are not really dead.

Maurice Benard Confirms Steve Burton is Upcoming Guest on ‘State of Mind’

Over this past weekend, General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) revealed that he is finally going to have longtime co-star, Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) on his State of Mind You Tube series for a sit-down interview.

While speaking with Soap Opera Digest at Nancy Lee Grahn’s (Alexis, GH) ALS fundraiser, Maurice confirmed the taping is happening this week and should be posted in about three weeks time.

Benard shared, “I wanted Steve Burton and I’m shooting him Tuesday, my good friend, but he’s been through a lot and I’ve been asking for three years, but he’s finally going to do it.”

In addition, to the episode, it appears Maurice also confirmed he will be doing a You Tube live on Tuesday, May 7th as well at 3 pm PT possibly with Burton.

As GH viewers know, for year Jason was Sonny’s henchman, and his right hand. Now upon Jason’s return, the two are at complete odds, due in part to Sonny’s medication being completely manipulated by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and his growing paranoia.

As for what Burton will discuss, as Benard teased Steve has gone through a lot of personal ups and downs as well as professional, over the last three or more years, but has always landed on his feet. It will be interesting to hear this thoughts on those matters and how he soldiered through.

So, excited to see Maurice and Steve have a serious chat on State of Mind? Comment below.
