Days of our Lives Confirms Taping of Doug Williams’ Funeral and Honoring the Late Bill Hayes

After Stephen Schnetzer revealed his return as Steve Olson and Deidre Hall (Marlena) revealed the return of Gloria Loring (ex-Liz), on recent episodes of The Locher Room, Days of our Lives fans just knew that the show must be taping the funeral and related episodes on the death of Doug Williams.

Since DAYS tapes so far in advance of air, look for them to first stream on Peacock sometime this December.  Just how DAYS head writer, Ron Carlivati and team will ultimately craft the final exit of the beloved Doug and to celebrate his portrayer, Bill Hayes remains to be seen.

However on Monday, a spokesperson for Days of our Lives told Soap Opera Digest, “With Bill Hayes’ passing, the show is doing a special celebration for the life and memory of the character he portrayed for so many years. ‘Doug William’s’ funeral is giving us the opportunity to welcome some important and fan favorite, legacy characters back to Salem, including Gloria Loring, Stephen Schnetzer, and more. The episodes taping this week include Doug’s funeral and the historic 15,000th episode. They will not air until December 2024.”

Hayes passed away back on January 12th of this year, leaving behind his wife and co-star for more than five decades, Susan Seaforth Hayes.  Following Bill’s memorial service and the Horton house burning to the ground on-air, Michael Fairman TV spoke to Susan, who related that the writers and producers did come to her about how they planned on dealing with Doug’s death.  Susan expressed, “They have, and they have been very sweet about it.”

The list of who could show up for Doug’s funeral and his history could be a number of people, but obviously top on the list that people are hoping for will be Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams), who played Bill Hayes’ on-screen daughter.

So, who else would you like to see from the life or times of Doug Williams, return to Salem for his final goodbye? Comment below.

What used to be 6 is now 8 months prior to air? That sadly puts Doug’s passing around Christmas.

Thank goodness the other shows are able to still be cost effective filming 3-8 weeks prior to air.

Being 8 months ahead is excessive. If a storyline stinks, we can’t voice our opinions because they are too far ahead to change anything. Who was the brains for allowing that?

James – they just can’t seem to help themselves on this. And yes – no time to adjust if fans hate a story or if there’s a real-world issue that comes up to impact peoples thinking.

In 2020, production on all soaps ceased for 4 months. Instead of using this to keep the tape to air down to a normal 2 months, they’ve actually increased the pace.

With their barebones business model, there’s no easy way to close this gap now. They can’t stop production for 6 months and not pay staff.

Whenever I think of this gap I’m reminded that at a few points in the year, some GH scenes make it to air in 2 weeks.

Bo and Hope, Sammy of course have to be there.

Doug funeral is an opportunity to bring back Sandy who is Tommy’s daughter, Addie’s two children Julie and Steve , Bill’s three children Mike, Jennifer and Lucas, Mickey’ children Sara and Melissa and Marie’s daughter Jessica. Which are Tom and Alice’s grandchildren.
