Y&R's Lauralee Bell on Christine and Paul's Upcoming Kiss! What about Nina?

Well, that Christine Blair (Lauralee Bell) certainly has been getting around these days! A steamy kiss with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), hitting the sheets with her former husband and childhood sweetheart, Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), and now this bit of news ala TV Guide!  Apparently, Christine will share an important kiss with another one of her exes, when she and Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) share a liplock on the upcoming November 16th episode of The Young and the Restless!

TVG spoke to Lauralee Bell for the scoop of how the kiss comes about, what this means for the romance of Paul and Nina, and Christine and Nina’s (Tricia Cast) friendship!  Plus, Bell weighs in on the recent transition of the new Y&R regime headed up by executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps and head writer, Josh Griffith, after the departure of her sister-in-law Maria Arena Bell!  And, what she thought about how Phyllis Newman’s  (Michelle Stafford) court case was wrapped up … where the gal got out of  spending time in the slammer! Here are a few excerpts below!

Lauralee on what triggers the kiss between Christine and Paul: “Christine has basically thrown Paul a lifeline by finding the evidence that saves him from going to jail. She’s freed him from this horrific chapter in his life and that’s what provokes the kiss. This isn’t some meaningless thing, though. Paul says, “I’m falling back in love with you.” And Christine says, “I’m falling back in love with you, too. I want to give this a shot.” Danny was the love of Cricket’s young life. But Paul is her adult love. It’s a serious, emotional reconnection. It could be a second chance for both of them. “

Lauralee on if Christine will seem like the villain here breaking up Nina and Paul:  “I think the audience understands that Paul has been through a long period of hell with his sister and his son and he’s just spent. Being with Chris helps center him. He can relax around her. A new relationship is work. As great as things may seem with Nina, there isn’t that same comfort level. Paul needs calm and Chris represents it. Even though he and Nina are technically together, Doug and I have always chosen to play it like there’s something heavily emotional whenever our characters are in the same room. I think maybe Jill Phelps and Josh Griffith looked at those scenes we had at the police station where Paul and Chris would cry and hug and they picked up on their really deep relationship. Doug’s so good at exploring his emotional side.”

Lauralee on how the Phyllis’ trial was wrapped up, and being asked to stay longer at Y&R per the request of Jill and Josh:  “I don’t know exactly how Maria was going to end it but I do know she planned to have Christine and Danny leave town together. I wasn’t supposed to remain on the show. Josh and Jill stopped me in the hall and said, “We’re thinking about not having you leave. Is that okay with you?” I thought that was so nice! A really lovely gesture. I am torn about the way the trial played out. No one wants to see Phyllis in an orange jumpsuit for months. They want to see her out raising hell. But I feel like Christine would have investigated the case so well that she’d never have lost. It made her seem so unqualified in her research.”

So soapers, what do you think about a rekindling of a Christine and Paul romance?  Would you like to see Nina turn bad and play the jilted girlfriend?  And, how do you feel about Phyllis not paying for her past crimes against Christine and Paul?  Weigh-in!

I’m glad Christine is staying in town. She keeps Phylis on her toes, which I love. As for Nina and Paul? They always seemed to have more of a close friendship rather than a passionate relationship. The only thing that would be a bit of a downer, is that Danny and Cricket ultimatley wont sail off into the sunset. But if it keeps some of the old-timers back in the saddle, I’m all for it. Y&R has great new characters, but the classics never die.

I would love to see Christine somehow force Phyllis to admit to the hit and run deed in front of family and friends.! But as a result Christine drops the civil suit and gets on with her life.
Like the idea of Paul and Chris! I don’t want Nina to be jilted, but she needs a juicy s/l!

Glad that Lauralee has been asked to stay. And happy about Chris and Paul. I really liked them when they were together in the past. Chris and Paul were always great together whether solving crimes or helping out the good guys. A force for good is needed on the show.

Paul/Nina has barely been seen since they got together. And while I prefer Paul/Nina and Christine/Danny, I can’t help but feel like this reunion is long over-due. I hope Christine stays with the series, I love when she’s in town! I feel like Jill & Josh want to give fans the best, classic Y&R. And they’ve been doing that since they took their claim over the series.

Reviving tension between Christine and Nina could make for good storytelling. A story of women’s friendships affected by love of the same man provided the Lifetime movie machine with much fodder! Christine is a legacy character with many Genoa City connections, professionally and personally, on the current canvas. And recall, she is a stepsister to the Abbotts, and close to Katherine Chancellor. I like her as an opposite to Phyllis. I applaud the decision to promote characters inherently good to counter the over-the-top unpunished and unredeemed behavior in most of the characters in recent years. Paul Williams deserves something positive and he and Christine were good together.

At first I thought you were mistaken about Christine being related to the Abbotts but halfway through the day it came back to me. John Abbott did marry Christine’s mother Jessica and I believe she later passed away from AIDS. I guess I forgot about the connection since the writers haven’t used it in years. If they are seriously thinking of bringing back Christine to the canvas they should play that connection, perhaps have Christine become the new legal head for Newman now that Jack has taken over it. Can you imagine Phyllis and Christine working for the same company- now that would be a hoot.

Your storyline development is great .. send it to JFP 😉 Can you inagine the fights bt Phyllis and Chrsitine .. awesome

I always felt like Nina & Paul were ore like brother & sister. The only thing that bothers me is please don’t let this be where Paul leaves town to start a new life with Christine. Doug Davidson is a great man and JFP has a habit of getting rid of veterans.

Well I am thrilled that Christine will find evidence to get Paul off the hook for shooting his son, because it means that ill conceived storyline will end. As for a Paul and Christine reunion I don’t know how I feel about that. On one hand it does honor the history of the show, but on the other hand it is like been there done that— I don’t see what is left for this couple to explore. So if they can come up with a new angle for this romance, maybe, but otherwise I see this romance ending up in one of two ways- with Paul and Christine riding off into the sunset never to be seen again, or with Paul alone and heartbroken again.

Chris and Paul were always great together. Ever since Christne left, Paul always seemed unhappy. I’m all for a Chris/Paul reunion.

The Paul character is one of the most dull boring lackluster character in any soap..
I snore when he’s on screen..
Pairing him up Chris will be like watching paint dry.. Only good thing about it , it might stop his constant whining..
Sorry to their fans, but they both are terribly dull..

Love love all the other characters’ and Y&R is getting better !!!

Amen to that. I have been getting the word out to friends who had given up on the show to tune in again, because it is getting better. And I get what you are saying about Paul. The Paul Williams of today is nothing like the young rebel turned hero of yesterday. I think sometimes a character gets put on the back burner for such a long time the writers don’t know how to get them back into front burner status again. In his day, Paul Williams was an interesting character at the heart of many major s/l, but over time they stopped writing for him and now he is like that favorite pair of jeans in your closet, you know don’t fit anymore and never will, but you just don’t have the heart to get rid of them.

Both Paul and Christine can show their true talent if they get the right material. The recent Ricky Storyline proved that he has great talent. Acting is a talent either you got or you don’t.

I don’t understand why they give Phyllis a way out of everything, she never pays and everyone helps her get away with everything she does.I don’t like Phyllis. She needs to pay. I would love to see Paul and Christine back together but not see Nina turn bad and play the jilted girlfriend.

Punish Phyllis once and for all !!!!

i am glad that doug davidson (paul) will be front and center………..

Well, I’m happy to hear about this!!!
Can’t wait!

Great seeing Christine again, and I’m so glad she’ll be back to be the foil for Phyllis! (and a s/l for Davidson to finally sink his teeth into) but mostly want Stafford to “SQUASH THAT BUG!” 🙂

I and some of my long time Y & R friends felt very frustrated throughout that Phyllis was getting away with such an emotional and just obviously wrong crime. I and many others still like to believe in justice . All things cannot simply be let go. It was an excellent idea to bring some of the happy romances and good endings back. You have brought couples back together that just belong together. In todays world of too much reality we like to have some romance and happiness blended with all the strife! I love that the new writers are doing this. If everything ends badly that is depressing and hard to watch. Again I LOVE THE NEW WRITERS AND STORYLINE!!!!!! Please continue to give us good amidst the struggles! Thank You. A long time fan.
