Get Your Old Soap Block Back With A Twist! – Are You Tuning In To OWN in the Afternoon?

This Monday marked the arrival of All My Children and One Life to Live to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network!  The revival of the iconic shows debuted the first three episodes of their original online return on Hulu on Monday and the action has picked up from there, where the first 40 episodes of each show, will be shown in Oprah’ declared, “Summer Fling with the Soaps!”

While some viewers of the new AMC and OLTL may be confused by all the repeats of episodes running concurrently or the next day on OWN,  On-Air On-Soaps wanted to break this down for a minute, and when we looked at it, this really gives long time fans of the old ABC Daytime programming block a chance to see all their favorite soaps in relatively the same line-up that they were accustomed to up until September of 2011, when All My Children sadly left the airwaves, followed by One Life to Live in January 2012, but with a small channel change tweak, and a a show time switched around!

So now in the summer of 2013, you can watch All My Children at 1PMEST/PST on OWN, then head over to ABC and watch General Hospital at 2PMEST, and then go back to OWN to watch One Life to Live at 3PMEST/PST!

Now we ask you, have you be checking out OLTL and AMC on OWN this week?  Do you think you will now watch all three of your all-time favorite ABC originated soaps in this new format?   Let us know your thoughts as we saw many comments that fans wanted AMC and OLTL back on television and in the afternoon, where they belonged!

I will continue to watch both on OWN and HULU. I am at work at 1pm but I have gone back to my old routine of DVR my AMC and watching it as soon as i get home. But i will still watch first thing monday mornings on HULU to get my full hour of AMC! I want my AMC to be around for many more years so i will support both mediums.

DVR’ing doesn’t count as a view.. so what’s the point of recording it?

Actually it does now and has counted for the last year, if the recording is watched within 72 hours.

In the Nielson Ratings it does…up to a week of programing.

as far as I’ve always known, the dvr recording is counted if it’s watched with 24 hrs. but if you record several days and binge watch on the weekend, it doesn’t get counted.

now if you use a dvd or vhs recording and you’re using cable then they will count you… if you use over the air thru digital tuner, it is not counted.

I’ve been using the later for years, so haven’t stopped watching, but haven’t been counted since 2008, however now that OLTL is on hulu and itunes, I’m counted again – and I even watch GH on hulu now too, so get counted for that too.

It is counted., in 3 ways:
Live Program Viewing (Live)
Nielsen measures Live viewing both at the national level and at the local level. Though when it comes to national reporting (pretty much everything you see on our site) it is almost never reported. In fact, we do not use it at all other than for the purposes of counting the total number of people who watched on a DVR

Live Plus Same Day DVR Program Viewing (Live+SD)
By far, the most commonly reported Nielsen metric for national viewing. This is a combination of Live program viewing (see above) plus any DVR viewing that happens up until 3am the morning after the program airs. Our overnight reports, any daily finals and all weekly numbers reported are all Live+SD

Live Plus Seven DVR Program Viewing (Live+7)
This is live program viewing plus a week’s worth of program viewing on DVR. The same day DVR viewing is already included in this number (in other words, you can’t take total DVR viewing for the week and add it to the Live+SD numbers or you will be double counting the same day portion,

I’m not saying DVR doesn’t count, I don’t know because I’m not an expert, but DVR was given as one of the reasons viewership was down for the soaps on network TV. If DVR is in fact counted, then why was that given as a reason?

Yes I am watching on OWN to.We need a network for these cast members to remain. They are working for low pay for hopes of a network. No matter if she turned them down the first time. The cast and PP need this to work.Backing my soaps no matter what network they are on.ABC gets paid by PP and Hulu for these soaps.Rather they get a network and ABC stop getting double pay for these soaps. They cancelled them so done with ABC excepted GH.

OWN not part of my cable package…but im happy for those who recieve it and can watch…the more ways to watch the better…

I would watch them on QWN if they were the new episodes and not repeats. I will stick with HuluPlus, if and when OWN gets current.

I watch them first thing Monday morning on Hulu and then I’ve been tuning into Oprah in the afternoon. Enjoying every minute of them. I don’t bother with GH…it’s on Abc!

I still watch GH! I don’t want want to watch repeats of OLTL & AMC on Oprah’s own channel. I will watch the new episodes on hulu in aug..

If you wait until Aug to watch on Hulu, you are going to be behind. NEW episodes are still posted on Hulu every Monday. OWN is showing reruns but that has nothing to do with Hulu.

I have been watching AMC/OLTL on Hulu and OWN. Even though I have seem the episodes airing on OWN already, I am DVR’ing and watching Daily. And I am right there on Mondays for all new episodes on HULUPLUS on my t.v. Wherever the shows are, I am there!!

Admittedly, I was a bit confused at first. I thought the OWN was airing three “new” episodes per day. Of course, the math would not hold up with that lineup (forty episodes would have been aired in just a couple of weeks). Also, I never saw the first episode of OLTL. It seems it started airing with episode two.

That is a minor quibble; I am just thrilled to have the shows back in my living room—where they belong!

if you want the first episode, you can buy it for 99 cents on itunes… or any other episode of the online version, and I think hulu.com has all the new episodes

Thanks, I did see the episode the first day it aired online; I just wondered if they aired it on OWN. If they did I just missed it with my DVR. I have not seen anyone else saying that they skipped the first episode.

They aired the first 3 episodes on Monday July 15. And I believe they reaired episode one on Friday July 19. After that the new episode airs Mon – Th at 3PM ET for OLTL.

I am watching all three and love it!
Wish it would continue after summer!

THIS is why we all need to watch even if we are up to date on Hulu or iTunes. TnB Forever….

yes i am already watching it

Watching and recording…have already watched online but supporting oprah …thanks for giving them life on your network

I watch on Hulu plus but am also recording them on OWN so maybe they will be picked up after the summer for those who only want to watch on cable, for whatever the reason. To show my support I have also staryted to record “The Have’s and Have Nots” on OWN.

I haven’t watched that show yet so not sure if it’s any good or not.

Tika Sumpter is on Haves and Have Nots and she played Layla on OLTL.

I’m DVRing AMC now on OWN, even though I’ve seen the episodes on Hulu. I’m hoping that it somehow helps to show the interest is still there.

Me too. I want to support the shows hoping OWN will extend the series. Still watching the new ones on Hulu.

Yes I love that I can see my soaps again thank you own 🙂

I am watching on Hulu and DVR’ing them on OWN.
Anything and everything to help our shows have at least 40 more years! 🙂

Me too.

I DVR and watch when I get home, but still disappointed with promotion of show and executive producer bias unprofessional behavior on twitter.

I work, so I can’t watch.. but I told my grandma about it and she’s been watching.. previously refused to watch online(not computer-saavy). I hope the repeats find a permenant home on cable.. just not on OWN, but if OWN does get it.. so be it.

I think showing the soaps during early day hours is putting them back to a problem that helped kill them..
People are not home during the day to spend 3 hrs in front of the tv as they were 30yrs ago to watch daytime soaps..

The elderly/retired, disabled, mothers getting assistant are home during the day all others work..
Out of say 2 million a high percent are working during the day and unable to watch..
That is why daytime tv is mainly very low cost talk and cooking shows, because there is few home to watch tv during the daytime.
Just once, when PP had the chance, they should have explored airing the soaps during the evening on OWN .

I have been watching new episodes on Hulu and loving seeing the old episodes on OWN. Can’t wait til they find a permanent place on television. If it’s OWN, great!

OWN in Canada is not showing them- any chance eventually it will?

Mary, I’ve been told it is the FTC that will not let OWN Canada air any scripted programming. You’ll want to direct your questions and concerns to them…

I don’t think it’s a matter of the Canadian government not wanting scripted programming, it’s that the government requires a certain amount of programming be Canadian-30 percent, as I recall

I am only repeating what was told to me by a Canadian viewer. That is what she said was their response when she asked about watching The Have and Have Nots.

so excited about ancient and oltl. watch on hulu and watch the own network all afternoon. 🙂

Watching all three; and letting my TV run without sound from 12-4 PM on OWN….anything to help this effort:)

So happy to have them back on the daytime lineup !!

I don’t get OWN and I’m surely not going to Upgrade my already too expensive Cable package to get it – I currently pay monthly for HULU PLUS and that’s enough, and HULU PLUS has way too many commercial breaks.
But I am happy for those who are able to now watch the show and I support anything that allows the iconic soaps ALL MY CHILDREN and One Life to Live to continue.
Any way you slice it, ABC-TV really really made a big mistake in letting these shows
go. They should have just trimmed each show down to a half hour and ran them back to back.

If you are going to pay, get the multipass on iTunes. 20 episodes for 9.99 and commercial free. Then you hook an HDMI cable to your laptop and your TV and watch on the flat screen.

don’t have access to OWN tv channel…

Yes, I’m watching all three soaps every afternoon, and it almost feels like old times again! I also watch the new episodes of AMC and OLTL on Hulu, so I’m a happy, happy soap fan. Hope the ratings will be great and that my shows continue for another 45 years!

I might be the only one that would like have soaps air in the evening.
Days are very busy.. and to be able to be in front of the TV from 12pm to 3:30pm doesn’t work..
I believe that would work for retired people or people who are home during day, but for all others not convenient and no time to daytime watch ..
DVR is ok, but ideal, and not all have the ability to DVR..
DVRing is to watch at night so why not just run the soaps at night ..

I have been watching and taping the Initial episodes of both AMC and OLTL. Online, I was only watching OLTL on Hulu…but now I have started watching, and enjoying, AMC as well. My cable isn’t too great here (Charter) so the picture breaks up now and then…so pretty much been leaving it on OWN all afternoon. I can catch up with GH over the weekend on SoapNet

We got rid of cable after our provider dropped SoapNet and currently we use Hulu Plus to watch AMC and OLTL and we DVR GH. I watch my shows while I’m on the treadmill on an iPad (which was a gift that really came in handy). I love watching my stories this way!

I am glad OWN picked up the shows and I hope everyone who can watch them that way is. This is a huge deal. I’m very excited about it!

DirecTV still carries SoapNet and I have 161 classic episodes of OLTL on my DVR to prove it. LOL

I will gladly watch them like this and on HULU in hopes of them not being cancelled again.

I have been watching these soaps since the beginning of their debut many years ago., I was so upset when AMC & OLTL were taken off the air and I had to watch on hulu which in my opinion is not the same., I was thrilled to watch on OWN this past week., I love seeing them back on my TV set., Hopefully they will return there

If you have HuluPlus and a Roku, BluRay or gaming system you can watch on your TV anytime, or you can hook up a computer/laptop to your TV with a HDMI cable. I’ve been watching AMC on my TV since April streaming through my Wii.

Been doing the same with iTunes but don’t need Roku or blueray or a gaming system…just need an HDMI cable.

I am also DVRing OWN & watching on HULU. I want to support any medium that is showing the soaps. I would also like to post positive, affirmative comments on the Facebook pages of TOLN, Prospect Park, OWN and any other business assisting in keeping these stories alive!

Keep them on

Thank you Oprah!!!! I love being able to watch both General Hospital and One Life to Live. I originally started watching G. H. because OLTL was taken off the air. Now, I love G.H and can once again watch OLTL. Thanks again. Keep the time slot as it is, please.

I love watching on HULU and would not give Oprah Winfrey’s network the time of day to improve her ratings when she did nothing to help our soaps. I watch GH on my DVR whenver I want and do the same with OLTL and AMC. No Oprah, no way. However, i hope those who have not discovered the shows online will find out about them now– and that oprah will have to pay big bucks to help PP/ TOLN.

It totally understand your feelings. But I would rather watch on own and prove her words of two years ago wrong – than not watch on own and risk losing our shows again.

I had not read that there was any danger in losing our shows , but I definitely see your point in proving her wrong. PP/TOLN have said they are totally behind these shows. But.. the more money they make, the more they can do with the shows.

Im watching faithfully 🙂

I,rather watch it on Hulu.com,the only reason that Oprah is bringing back the soaps is because her OWN Network is a failure in the ratings n she needs something to grab her viewer,s attention, now correct me if I,m wrong, but wasn,t she the same woman who turned her back on AMC N OLTL b/c she said that the ratings on those soaps are down, well ,who,s laughing all the way to the bank ,Oprah, certaintly, not you

It is all in PP benefit to have the soaps on OWN, and PP are the winners on this more so than OWN ..

OWN’s rating may increase during the 3 hours however it will increase for PP 10 fold.
PP is gaining more than OWN..
and so far it just for set weeks this summer ..

I concur with your assessment of why she is doing this…but in the end anything that will help our shows is good. Even if it means she benefits as well, I will DVR on OWN as well as watch on Hulu.

i love those two shows but i cant watch it because i live in nassau bahamas i live outside the usa i need help want to watch it so bace

try this;; put; ”watch OWN on line” ,, in your search..
there are ways, OWN is online ..

bad

I’m watching and I’m hoping that OWN will keep One Life To Live and All My Children on for many, many years to come. I love watching those two shows on TV instead of my computer. THANK YOU, OPRAH and the OWN NETWORK!!

Thanking Oprah is the same thing as if somebody punched you in the face and then your nose started to bleed, and they handed you a towel.

Thank Oprah? She’s not doing the soap fans a favor.. we are doing HER the favor! I doubt OWN was the only channel wanting the repeats (Lifetime, Oxygen, TVGuide). The soaps are a HIT on the internet.. they really don’t have to show the repeats to stay a success.

I sure didn’t hear off any other networks wanting to pick them up. No one stepped up to the plate when ABC decided to
Lose some viewers to stupid shows like CHEW????? Uck.

Lynda,

That’s incorrect. There were networks and channels interested in BUYING AMC and OLTL from ABC, but they refused! ABC is only LEASING PP/TOLN the soaps on a 10-yr basis.

Oprah didn’t offer to help, only thing she did was talk down to the soap fans and tell us all how the genre was dead and that there was no money to be made. Which is funny, because Oprah’s CHANNEL, not a network(more than one) is bleeding money.. so she’s turning to the soaps to bring in viewers.. which will make MONEY.

OH THE IRONY!!!

If you have the correct ports on your tv – all you need is a few cords and you can watch everything from the internet on your television.

Still watching AMC and OLTL on hulu and am proud to support PP and TOLN. I like their vision of online soaps becoming the way of the future. But for others, I am sure they are glad they can see them on OWN, for now.

Heck yes, I want it back on TV. I try my best to watch OLTL on Hulu, but my internet is very slow. It’s very frustrating. 1pm on weekdays was always my “lunch break” where I sat down with my lunch and enjoyed my soap. Did that for 44 years!

when you watch at HuLu change your setting there..
use the low standard instead of HD and then it will not stall, it will give you the speed you need ..

IThank you Oprah for bringing back our beloved soaps. It is so great to watch them again. Thanks Again.

You mean, thank you for airing them on your network. Prospect Park gets the thanks for actually bringing them back.

Hate watching them on the computer, I def prefer to watch them on my big screen TV while I hang out on my comfy couch! Please OWN make this a permanent thing!!

I also hope that OWN will pick this up once we show them they are being watched by many.
But if your tv has the correct ports (most of them do nowadays) all you need is an HDMI cord and you can watch everything from the internet on your big screen TV. 🙂

Stumbled onto OLTL today after GH. So thrilled to be able to watch them again!

I am thrilled at being able to watch on the own channel. I do not like watching on the laptop/pc.. This way I can put them on in all of the rooms I have a tv and watch while doing house work.. I have been watching these soaps since I was a child and missed them dearly when abc gave them the boot.
Thanks Oprah for putting them on OWN.. I hope they will stay on permanently…

If you have a flat screen, all you need is an HDMI cable to watch the online shows on your TV.

I’m so thrilled our shows are back on TV. I have no problem viewing them on Hulu; but, for those who are uncomfortable with computers, this is a wonderful thing. Thank you OWN.

I would if it were in Canada

Contact the FTC…they’re the ones who won’t allow scripted programming on OWN Canada…

Yes, by all means, I would love AMC and OLTL back on TV. I do not always have access to a computer. I am retired now and would love to be able to pick them up again. I have been watching the old episodes to play catch up and watching when I could the new episodes. Thank kyou.

How stupid am I? When I heard Oprah was running the first 40 episodes of OLTL & AMC I actually thought that meant literally the first 40 episodes from 1968-1970. How disappointed & foolish I felt!

Yes. DVR recording them; sped thru the ones I watched online but waiting for the newer episodes I missed when I stopped making time to watch. This will be great to catch up on storylines!

So glad they are back on TV. Not the same watching them on the computer.

Esther, if your tv has the correct ports – all you need is a couple of cords to watch on your TV.

one HDMI cable is all you need.

Now, if only you could repeat them in the evening hours. I don’t have a VCR and still work 8am to 5pm. I can watch bits and pieces on my lunch hour sometimes, but I’m already a little lost. Loving what I do see, though!

I was surprised she wasn’t doing that either. Maybe you could suggest it on their website?

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Photo: ABC

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
