Days of our Lives is bringing in what is said to be a short-term, but on contract actress to play a the new role of Summer, according to Soap Opera Digest on Tuesday.

Summer is described as a “passionate loner who has been in and out of institutions and is a small-time thief.”

The NBC soap opera now heading towards it’s 50th anniversary in November is seeking experienced actors only, names preferred, to begin taping at the end of August.

OK, put your casting director hats on! Who would you suggest to play this part from a well-known actress from primetime or daytime television?  Give us your picks in the comment section below!

The actress who played the last Jessica on OLTL???…just hope she wont be stealing elephants…lol

So, SOD describes Summer as being in her early 40s.

What about Jessica Collins? She’s 44.

Bree is 36…a few years shouldnt be a problem???

Well, how about Brooke Sheilds???

Great choice

Jimh – The Bree Williamson was the last actress to play Jessica Buchanan on OLTL. She did a wonderful job. I agree she would be a great choice for this Days role.

Kristen Alderson

No no. bad choice, the girl can not act.

Sorry, but you lost me at the character’s description. Talk about cheesy…

Florencia Lozano? Martha Byrne? Beth Ehlers?

All excellent choices. I’d really love to see Lozano or Byrnes again.

Beth Ehlers definitely!

Kimberlin Brown. Bobbie Eakes. Barbara Crampton. Melissa Hayden.

I like your suggestion of Kimberlin Brown—it doesn’t seem like she will be back as Sheila on the CBS soaps and she can play looney better than anyone—here’s hoping!!!

No pls do not I cannot tolerate her.

Lol. Some of those broads are 20 years apart bro!

Hayden is in her 40’s. All the former B&B broads are in their 50’s.

Andrea evans

Michelle Stafford!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!…Days is starting to get better…dont ruin it!!!

LOL, Jimh! I’ve decided to wish for Julia Roberts whom was suggested by Greg. Jennifer Aniston would be good too!

Now that she has been mentioned i just bet Jennifer Aniston will get the part and will be in scenes with her dad John…as Victor i can see him catching her stealing something from the K mansion and Victor remarking something like, ‘Where is your father? Have you had no proper upbringing?’ she replies, ‘You remind me of him’…she could turn out to even be his long lost daughter or maybe she kidnaps Brady and Theresa’s baby???

Yes, Jimh!

And her character can put Tate on the black market where he is eventually adopted by a character played by Brooke Shields (she played a rabid DAYS fan on ‘Friends’)!

Robin Strasser!! She needs to be on Days some way, some how.

As Lee Dumonde…

Take Summer from the Young and the restless, Ill start a crowd funding campaign

I will be your co chair, Rob!

If you do, I’ll start a counter-campaign.
Maybe we can dump her on GH? Show can’t get any worse.

Ew…that would be like having two Kiki’s!!!

Only if she is the FIRST victim of this Salem killer!

Lindsay Hartley, Alicia Minshew, Liza Huber, Bree Williamson, Emily Vancamp…

Victoria Rowell!

Alicia Minshew. She’s said she grew up watching DOOL and she has friends in the cast. Plus she lives in NY and probably wouldn’t want to do a long term contract on a west coast soap.

Kimberlin Brown would be good! She’s missed in daytime!

Beth Chamberlin, Fiona Hutchinson or Beth Ehlers! Of course of they could also make Carly have a twin and bring Crystal Chapell back!

I said the same thing that it should be Fiona Hutchinson since she played a thief so well on Guiding Light! But I would be happy with Beth Ehlers and Beth Chamberlain also.

Well since it’s the 50th and she is a major super-fan I would love to see them cast Julia Roberts in this role.

I love your idea!

Cady McLain or Alicia Leigh Willis

Jessica Lange.

Knowing what age range would help. My guess is another youngin’…but the article didn’t say.

The SOD article says early 40s

Farrah fath Bree Williams

Gary Busey

Caitlyn Jenner!!!

They want a woman, not a woman wannabe.

Martha Byrne, Beth Ehlers, Jennifer Landon, Cady McClain, or Noelle Beck would be great! And sometimes short term roles turn into long term ones! It happens all the time.

Either Bree Williamson, age 35, or Florencia Lozano, age 45, would be great. Both did outstanding work on OLTL. It would be great to see Florencia and Kassie DePaiva work together again.

Susan Haskell, who played Marty on OLTL, could do this role. She’s good at the troubled outcast looking for attention.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!! That is a wonderful suggestion. Susan is absolutely terrific. I miss her so much.

Love and miss Susan!!

i really miss the second colleen on y n r – Adrienne Leonne, not sure why she was recast with the last one. I really miss her colleen and jt on y n r… maybe days could cast her as summer. She plays tough really well! i could picture her and Shawn D really hot together!

Bree Williamson sounds perfect for the casting breakdown except that she’s a bit too young.

If the age was right, I would say Debbie Morgan as the show NEEDS ethnicity. Also immediately thought of Brianna Brown (GH, Devious Maids) as she’s great at playing bad. She just signed on to a new pilot, so don’t know if she would do a short term role or if the pilot will take all her time.

People seem to ignore that the breakdown called for someone in their 40’s. She may be a bit too old in the age bracket they are looking for, but what about Cady McClain? I think she’d be fantastic in the role and would kill to see her back on daytime! She should be working on a soap opera that is going to use her talents for all they are worth!

Okay, I might be in minority here but I don’t think this is good news. All these actress being named are wonderful, but the gig is short term, I think they all deserve longer contracts if any of them are chosen.

To me it is insulting to offer an experienced day time actress a part only to capitalized on their name and then tossed them to the curb when they don’t their bit to hike ratings during no doubt will be a sweeps period.

This is basically stunt casting which really doesn’t add anything to the show– if this character was all that essential they wouldn’t need a big name to play her– so why bother creating the character at all or why not give any actress a shot at it?

I don’t know maybe some of these actresses mentioned need the work and don’t care if it is short term or think they will be so good that the role might last longer– but for me, this is just a ploy and pretty obvious one at that.

McKenzie Westmore

How about Patty Duke – she’s young at heart and started acting was she was about seven years old. She deserves a consideration.

How about Fiona Hutchinson since was delicious playing a jewel thief on Guiding Light?

“Summer,” really? Y&R already has a (dreadful) character named Summer.

Are there no more names available?! Talk about your lack of imagination. I am disappointed in you, Sony, but that doesn’t surprise me when you put out one movie called PASSENGERS and then a few years later you do it again, but with a completely different plot.

Sony what has happened to you? You are better than this!

They often use a different name in the casting call than the actual name of the character.

Let’s hope. 🙂

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. SU2C research has contributed to the development of more than 10 scientific breakthroughs that have significantly impacted the field and provided new treatment options for breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, pancreatic, pediatric and prostate cancers.
