There may be another primetime soap from Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids) making its way to ABC.

According to Deadline.com, Cherry is creating a new untitled series starring Reba McEntire in the lead role.

Described as a Southern Gothic soap opera, the show is set in motion after a horrible, suspected act of terrorism happens at a 4th of July parade in the small town of Oxblood, Kentucky. The FBI sends a cocky agent of Middle Eastern descent to investigate. He teams up with the mercurial local Sheriff (McEntire) to uncover secrets far darker than either could have ever imagined.

In addition to writing, Cherry will serve as showrunner on the ABC Studios series, which he executive produces with Sabrina Wind via their own Cherry-Wind Productions, McEntire, as well as Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel of Acme Productions. Shultheis and Hanel are long-time McEntire collaborators and served as executive producers on her previous TV series, the WB comedy Reba and ABC/ABC Studios comedy Malibu Country.

Per the deal, Cherry has received a script commitment plus penalty in a competitive situation. Previously, Desperate Housewives aired on ABC, while Devious Maids ended up on Lifetime.

S0, what do you think of the concept of this new soap from Cherry featuring Reba? Comment below!

I’ll need to know more before chiming in. He does good work though.

I know… right ?

she’s always bugged me… never thought her music was inspiring.. always sounded the same.

her voice sounds the same.. in all her music.. not much diversity or strength

IF any one hear listens to country… why didn’t Tanya Tucker usurp Reba ?

Reba “still” has her 15 minutes of fame… I’ll never know

she has done comedic roles… ( with laugh tracks )

it will always sting that the likes of Tanya Tucker was never awarded anywhere near Reba

so have at it Marc Cherry… you bombed on this one

her music is not any good
her comedic series always had a laugh track

and she’s aged.. and jaded… how humble and country she’s not

she is no longer a gay icon

Patrick Reba is a hard working lady. She is a legend, the lady can sing. Patrick you sound bitter my friend lol.

TELL US HOW YOU REALLY FEEL……

Reba is wonderful. As for her singing talent – just listen to her a cappella rendition of Sweet Dreams, performed live in concert. I’ve been to many Reba concerts over the years – what a show! Wish I could see the Vegas act; bet it’s magnificent. As for Tanya, I’ve always liked her and her tough-sounding vocals. Sometimes “things” just don’t fall the way each singer would like, some managers/agents don’t always deeply believe in their clients, and some careers just don’t always last forever.

Reba McEntire? Marc Cherry? Gothic elements? Soapy elements? I’m in!!! Sounds like it could be great.

I dunno about that one, nope..
However;
I see the TV show ”This Is Us” as a great primetime soap..
((( and I really love that show )))

I concurr, Suooo.
I am sorry, Reba bores me to death.

No and no stick to singing please and even that has its challenges

Thank you!!

Your welcome her expiration date long expured

Expired!!!

Since this “new” soap opera is slated to air on ABC, I will NOT be watching! I have only watched “General Hospital” since 2011 when ABC chose to cancel “All My Children” and “One Life To Live”.

Until both “AMC” and “OLTL” are returned to daytime programming on ABC, I will not watch anything except “GH”.

do u think that will ever happen though, least they can do is create new daytime soap opera that has characters from both shows.

Are we eight years old and stomping our feet too? Wow!

Who here is 8 stomping their feet?,NO ONE THAT I KNOW OF!
Not all dramas that are classified as PT Soaps are soaps , but there are ones that are primetime soaps. Networks just slap that label , to brainwash you to believe that lie.

ABC has the best primetime soaps!!!!
Not to watch those awesome soaps, well that is sad, indeed..

i am still waiting for abc’s christmas gift to us…. announcing the return of ONE LIFE TO LIVE !

IMO,, this is what you get..
The creator of this so call soap may well be in the category of ”reality”…
Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids)
Whatever, most likely it will not represent an actual soap opera..

what a christmas gift that would be.. Long live OLTL…

Bring back Devious Maids to at least wrap up the storyline.

OK…fine…whatever. B-u-t…I’m STILL MAD at those CHEESE-HEADS at ABC for canceling Malibu Country……….

ABC shouldn’t be allowed to ever air another soap, considering what they did to AMC, first ruining it so they could cancel it. I’ve been boycotting ABC so won’t be watching.

i’m not sure about this one hope i’m wrong, I have lost hope in Mark since he gave us that lukewarm show devious maids,i hope it leaves up to DHW legacy.

Sounds like Twin Peaks and Fargo had a baby

I love Reba! I loved Cherry’s Desperate Housewives. But I don’t know…this premise does absolutely nothing for me. When I first heard Reba…and Southern…I imagined her as the matriarch of a Southern family…maybe a Blanche Deveraux type….with lots of soapy involved and lots of comedy. I will watch for sure…but it hae better be good. Loved REBA…but MALIBU COUNTRY was awful!!!

Hmmmm…..I like Reba, but doubt I’ll be watching.

and wait.. didnt reba narrate a retrospective series about 20 years ago — a half hour a day, with the best of the abc soap moments..

maybe she could do this again and it would be a great way to build the momentum for this series

– are you listening at abc daytime??????

Not a fan of Reba. I do not dislike her but I need a better reason to tune in.

I’ll definitely watch. I would def rather AMC and or OLTL but that’s not going to happen so Reba I will watch.

That’s your opinion that ABC has awesome Primetime Soaps.
And saying that AMC AND OLTL will not return since The Rat Network cancelled them , is a horse of another color! ABC has FULL CONTROL rights of both soaps. You never know what they might do. They either bring back Love In The Afternoon , or they can further watch the failing network thats dropped down to a 2.3 low ass ratings to further extinction and I wouldn’t give a c***sucking s***!

ABC better wake up , or stay asleep in their ignorance , as idiots!
None of us work for Disney ABC TV. And if I did. I’d be PUKING in DISGUST , WORKING FOR A COMPANY THAT DISRESPECTS ITS VIEWERS AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THEM!
A**HOLES!

I’ll give anything starring Reba a try, but I hated ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Devious Maids.’

DID NOT WATCH DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES OR DEVIOUS MAIDS…..I WILL GIVE THIS ONE A TRY SINCE REBA IS A VERY TALENTED LADY….

General Hospital

Lane Davies Joins the Cast of General Hospital Setting up a ‘Santa Barbara’ Reunion with Nancy Lee Grahn

Some very intriguing casting news out of General Hospital. The ABC daytime drama has cast former Santa Barbara favorite, Lane Davies (ex-Mason Capwell), in the role of Fergus Byrne, an attorney who crosses paths with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn).

According to TV Insider, Davies will make debut the week of May 22nd.  As soap fans know, together with the aforementioned Grahn, they created the Santa Barbara supercouple of Mason and Julia Wainwright. Davies portrayed Mason Capwell family from 1984 through 1989.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time in Port Charles for Lane. From 2002-2004 he played Dr. Cameron Lewis and also shared on-screen story with Grahn.  At that time Davies, played Xander Smith’s father.

GH fans are wondering about the last name of Davies new character, “Bryne”. If you recall, Alexis got herself involved with therapist Dr. Neil Bryne, who died when Harmony broke into Alexis‘ house and killed Neil by injecting him with opioids.

Taking to her Instagram, Grahn shared her excitement at the upcoming on-screen reunion with Davies, “It never gets old. We do 😂…. but it doesn’t 😍. Lookin’ forward to another romp.”

So, what do you think about Lane Davies returning to GH to play an attorney in Alexis’ orbit? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

One Life to Live Alum Jonathan Groff Receives 2024 Tony Award Nomination for Leading Actor in a Musical

Nominations were announced on Tuesday for the 77th annual Tony Awards by previous winners, Renée Elise Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline Williamson, One Life to Live) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

When the dust settled it was Stereophonic (which is loosely based on the story of Fleetwood Mac) and Hell’s Kitchen (Alicia Keys musical) that both scored 13 Tony nominations to lead the pack.

However, Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along made quite the comeback and is nominated for several awards including Best Revival of a Musical and for one of its stars, Jonathan Groff (ex-Henry Mackler, One Life to Live).

Groff is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and will go up against Brody Grant — The Outsiders, Dorian Harewood —The Notebook, Brian d’Arcy James — Days of Wine and Roses and Eddie Redmayne — Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club.

In addition to his previous Tony nod for his role in Hamilton, Jonathan was nominated for a Lead Actor in a Musical for his role as Melchior Gabor in the original production of  Spring Awakening.

Jonathan co-stars in the revival of Merrily We Roll Along “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe and previous Tony winner Lindsay Mendez.

Back in 2019, Groff visited Live with Kelly and Ryan and discussed his debut on One Life while working at night on Broadway in Spring Awakening.

He shared on his experience on the soap, “I do remember my first day because I was doing Spring Awakening on Broadway at the time, and One Life to Live was my first time ever being on TV.  So I got this offer, and I was like, ‘Yes, I would love to be in a soap opera,’ and we finished Spring Awakening at 11:00 p.m. and I woke up the next morning at 4:0 a.m. to walk uptown to go to do One Life to Live, and I called my agent and left a message, and I said ‘You have to get me out of this, I can’t wake up at 4 o’clock in the morning!'” You can watch the clip below.

The 77th annual Tony Awards will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, June 16, with Tony and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose returning to host for the third time.

So, rooting for Jonathan to take home his long-awaited Tony Award after several decades in the theater? Do you remember him as part of teen scene on OLTL? Comment below.
