DAYS Head Writer Ron Carlivati Teases: "There Are Big Payoffs For The Stories That Have Been Set Up, And There’s A Lot Of Exciting Stuff I’m Bringing Into It!"

Courtesy/ABC

Next week. all eyes will be on the iconic Days of our Lives,as Daytime Emmy-Award winning head scribe, Ron Carlivati’s first episodes begin to air starting with the Wednesday July 19th episode of the NBC soap opera.

In his exclusive interview in Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Carlivati talks about his plans for Salem, and since the show is already six months ahead how he is already plotting into early 2018.

But as to what fans can expect when they tune-in to DAYS with the all new writing regime which also features Sheri Anderson Thomas and Ryan Quan, Carlivati notes you will definitely see some changes and excitement in the current storylines airing, and those building to some exciting new ones under his creative watch.  When discussing the murder of Deimos and who will be revealed to be the killer, Ron notes: “When I came in, he had already been murdered, so I took that as a point of inspiration. It had wrapped up fairly fast with a killer that made sense, but I proposed a different killer that prolonged the story, and pulled more people in and impacted the love stories on the canvas a little more.”

When talking about the recent on-screen arrival of Angelica Deveraux back on the canvas, Carlivati revealed: “That was another one where I was able to take that in a new direction, That is a really fun story, which has some larger than life elements and some humor and some classic soap opera conventions to it. You’ll see from my very first episode what I mean by that.”

In terms of the vets. Carlivati said he understands the importance of the the long-standing central characters and how they play into the legacy of the series.  He  will write for the characters of: John and Marlena, Patch and Kayla, Hope, and the DiMeras.  He also noted that Lucas will also have major story.  The scribe let’s fans know to tune-in now to DAYS as a lot will happen: “There are big payoffs for the stories that have been set up. There’s a lot of exciting stuff that I’m bringing into it,”

So, excited to see how Carlivati’s material plays out over the coming months?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Always wanted to see what he could do with DOOL. Time will tell. Excited to watch the first episode on WED.

Ron is going to knock sonny mob central right off the map

Love Ron and days!!!!

I cant waite lucus is finely geting store line John and Marlena patch and Kayla wow I hope they keep R afe and H ope togther they belong togther I will be watching

I’m interested and will be tuning in. Let’s just hope Days avoids yet another in a now laughable and seemingly never-ending series of “The All New Days” promotional campaigns, wherein Ken Corday pinkie swears that this time it’s going to be really, really great….

Gawd I miss—
””That is a really fun story, which has some larger than life elements and some humor and some classic soap opera conventions to it. ””

I miss his subtle humor, he gave me many really good laughs!! And many hard drama twist and turns surprises!

Jean & Shelly, not one laugh not even a chuckle and never a surprise, sigh..

I envy the fans of Days for having Ron…

note; Ron grew up reading and still reads Agatha Christie, every single mystery ,,

I am looking forward to RC writing. So far he sounds like a huge improvement on Higley’s craptastic contrived misuse of characters’ history.

I loved him at GH and hope he’ll do great things at DAYS.

At this point there is no where to go but up– I watched for years and I have never seen the show sink as low as it has — it is so bad right now I am missing the days of diamonds in elephant statues—so I am open to anything Ron will bring to the table– I am going with a wait and see approach– I’ve gotten excited about writing changes before only to see things get worse– hopefully this will be a good fit– just a shame we had to wait 6 months— to get here.

Not at all excited about the new Days stories that will begin airing on July 19, 2017. I just hope Ron C does not screw up the show the way Josh G did.

You mean the way Dena Higley did…..

No. I meant exactly what I wrote.

Go Ron!!! Looking so forward to seeing your take on Days!

At last!!!!!!!!! I have so looked forward to Ron’s arrival. I’ll start watching Days again this Wednesday.

I am really counting down the days until Ron’s writing airs. Can’t wait to see what happens starting this Wednesday!

All I want is for Deimos to have faked his death and returns with better development by RC. He had a lot of potential before the scourge of Higley!

that would be a marvel… it could happen. course, i’d like it if Xander and Deimos were father and son. the nuKiriakis reign.

When Deimos lied to the family and especially Nicole that Xander was dead and he secretly sent him to Greece, I really believed then it was because Xander is his son. Deimos even visited Xander while he was in prison for the Theresa thing, when no one else gave a damn, said he reminded him of himself at that age. So Ron could easily pick up that intriguing thread again!

I am excited to see where he takes this show! Cannot wait for him to bring Eve back to the canvas… also I am excited to see him write for Eileen Davidson, fingers crossed that she will play Kristen! I think Ron will do wonders for Kristen. Would love to see Tony be revealed to be alive also and we can have more Dimeras! Also, please bring back the Horton family! I know many are not fans of the Hernandez family, but I would totally accept a return of momma Hernandez if Sandra Santiago were in that role!

ill wait and see…

Yes, bring back the Hortons and do something with Eli, Val and Julie. Give Kate a bigger storyline. She is a character who will benefit from R.C.’s writing.

Yes, yes, and yes, Lew S.
And I want Dario to get is comeuppance….finally, pleeeease!!
By the by, Morgan Fairchild is unrecognizable.

Celia, I agree with everything you said as well.

Hopeful. I went to Salem when roads to Oakdale and Pine Valley were closed to us, but became disappointed by turns the show took. I will give it another try but I hope RC does not get too wacky and weird in his plots like it got to be on GH. That kind of turned me off to Port Charles.

Pay off on current sl’s? Problem is I don’t care about ANY of the current SL’s. I really don’t care who killed Deimos & I certainly don’t want the reveal dragged out. It could be Col. Mustard in the library for all I care. Wrapping up SL’s that have already bored me long enough is a mistake. He should have just started with a Daysaster that wiped the slate clean & moved on.

I’m all for more family interaction and connections but the last thing this show (or any show) needs is geriatric drama. Focusing on 50-something (Stayla, Hope)- 70-something (Jarlena, Angelica) year old characters only works in comedy (The Golden Girls, Vicious) not drama. This show needs to move the younger cast to the front. It sounds boring on paper. I certainly don’t want to watch.

He’s making the same promises (and the same mistakes) we’ve heard from previous writing regimes. “Classic soap?” Nobody is watching “classic soap” in 2017 (as their record low rating PROVE). Maybe Corday should hire some up & coming writers with fresh ideas instead of the same tired people who’ve been doing this for dog’s ages

I pray he will bring back Jack Deveraux!!!

Also on my wishlist: Carrie, Austin, Billie, Celeste, and Charlotte Ross’ Eve (can’t stand Kassie de Paiva).

I hope Ron will write the show well. He is JER Jr., so I am hoping for the JER 3.0 we were promised but didn’t get with MarDar in 2011.

You seem very familiar to me.

Anyway, Bonnie is back, bitches!

I’m hoping Ron Carlivati propels DAYS to and beyond age 55!

Agree with everything you say.

I think I’ll wait till September & tune in for a few days to see how he brings Will back (but an evil twin, doppelganger as he suggests in SOD? Zzzzzzz. How many times have we already seen that?)

And Will’s return is only temporary. A proverbial band aid. It’s doubtful I’ll even watch all 13 weeks of that SL.

DAYS hasn’t confirmed Chandler’s length of stay, Ray C. Many have speculated 13 weeks and created rumors, but most, if not all, long-term contracts have cycles lasting 13 weeks. If Chandler’s contract started out as 13 weeks, there’s a chance for it to be extended another 13 weeks. And Ron didn’t suggest Chandler will be playing an evil twin or doppelganger. He merely stated that that could be what happens, but he also stated he was aware that killing Will was a mistake and he’d like to fix that.

Chandler Massey will undoubtedly be playing Will because Eileen Davidson will most likely be playing Kristen and all her lookalikes, but first, Judi Evans will be seen this week as Bonnie!

Where was it stated that Will’s return was only temporary ? Allison Sweeny was that I know, but never read anything like that about Chandler ?

I will dial in .. to check it out. I have never watched days, but loved Ron’s writing for GH!

Dont break up rafe and hope big mistake

I do not believe for one second that Deimos is dead.I think he is doing a Stephano,he is in hiding somewhere. He just wants everyone in Salem to believe he is dead.I bet he will show up somewhere in a couple of weeks.

I just watched today’s episode, Tuesday July 18. Carlivati definitely had a big influence on that even though Higley and Quan were credited as head writers. Everything that went down in the Brady pub between Adrienne, Jen, Angelica and later Patch and Justin. The Abby scenes had a fresh intensity to them. Dario was arrogant and tough. Everything down to the more intense music and the ‘Dr. Evans’ surprise at the end. No one can tell me Carlivati didn’t have a huge hand in this episode and I was thrilled to see the changes already being effective.

Thrilled for Ron and Sherri , writing team and the whole production cast. This is the new day for which we havev
been. waiting

Hope we see character or Bo and EJ even if intermediate smaller archs. They are linchpins for #Days..

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. SU2C research has contributed to the development of more than 10 scientific breakthroughs that have significantly impacted the field and provided new treatment options for breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, pancreatic, pediatric and prostate cancers.
