Adam J. Harrington Posts “Good Night All”, After GH’s Sonny Shoots John “Jagger” Cates

It looks like it’s the end of the line for John “Jagger” Cates (Adam J. Harrington) after his obsession with bringing down Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) got the best of him.

On Friday’s August 30th cliffhanger, while facing off in the rain (Sonny always has climatic moments in the rain! Remember Sonny/Brenda wedding?), Sonny tells Jagger, “You can come after me, but going after my daughter (Kristina) is unacceptable.” Next, Sonny pulls the trigger and shoots Jagger square in the chest. Jagger goes down, and Sonny shoots a second time!

It’s been awhile since we have seen cold-blooded Sonny. Following the airing of the episode, Adam J. Harrington took to social media and shared, “Good Night All” in reference to the apparent death of Cates.

Photo: ABC

Adam first appeared on General Hospital back on the Friday, February 2nd episode when the ABC daytime drama series re-introduced the character of Jagger, first played over 30 years ago by Antonio Sabato Jr.

This new version of Jagger went by the name of John, and as writing regimes changed hands it seemed like the plans for the character may have changed. In the end, Cates was out for revenge about all us on Sonny Corinthos, in particular for what he did years ago by making Karen Wexler a stripper.

So, it would seem John Jagger Cates has met his maker. If that is true, how do you feel about saying goodbye to Adam J. Harrington? Comment below.

BYE!

Adam, you played your part very well, I hope Jagger does not die. Instead I hope he comes too not remembering Sonny shot him . Jagger pushed Sonny to his limit, So Jagger needs to stop his venda and move on.

I still have hope that isn’t the real Jagger. But Adam knocked Agent Cates character out of the park. He was a demon-possessed with fury till the end.

Trust me, demons had nothing to do with whatever’s going on with that guy.

He’s going to meet a lot of demons in his new home, of course.

I was thinking bullet- proof vest, but would there still be that much blood? Did Cates just stupidly go to the Q’s to get Sonny, unarmed, expecting him to surrender and just go along with him peacefully? Gee, he was even stupider than I thought.

I guess it would be possible to rig a bullet proof vest with fake blood packs to give the appearance of bleeding out. But that of course leaves you open to the risk that somebody might take a head shot, just to be sure. Which is what I thought was going to happen when Sonny took the second shot, but apparently that was also to the chest area.

Now if this was the ReRon era, I would think the whole thing was staged, Jagger’s not really dead, and “Sonny” was a stand-in with a dumb latex mask on, and there’s a video camera mounted somewhere near the boathouse that filmed this entire episode to set Sonny up on the bogus charge of murdering a Federal agent.

But that’s a stretch, obviously. And who would Jagger get to play the fake “Sonny” in this scenario?

the new writers are screwing this show up-where is Frank?

This incarnation of Jagger/John never caught on with me. The writers definitely toyed around with the character and not in a good way.

Excellent point James. With the name switch, one could consider the 90s character Jagger Cates and the current John Cates – with little connection.

Same could be said for Drew Cain (Miller’s version) and Drew Quartermaine (Mathison’s version). Two very different personas.

I hated the writers changed horses in msinstream. They could have had Cates and Sonny resolve their troubled past. Adam I’d see heavy acting. Justwishtheyhadtturned Cates into a despicable character. Hope he gets more work. Like to see him on a Will Trent or The Rookie.

Lol..nothing ever turns out happily ever after on soaps. I can’t imagine WHY tgey chose to bring Cates back! There was no story for him there…the Karen thing was over 30 years ago, AND Jagger cheated on Karen and broke her heart! With vendetta about Sonny turning her into a stripper was LONG ago and totally irrelevant. Not to mention, Sonny was with Stone through his Aids and Jagger was nowhere to be found. None of this silly storyline rang true.

Calling all the Sonny apologists who make excuses for every crime, every abusive tantrum, every murder. (Sounds like a certain political cult leader and his tribe…)

Frankly, I’ve forgotten all the transgressions, but I do recall Sonny murdering AJ. There is absolutely no growth in this character, no moral center, no rooting value, and yet we see how the GH brain trust endlessly and nauseatingly promotes this flawed character as the show’s leading man…

I would agree if Sonny put 3 bullets in him.. but he’ll get off for it only being 2.

Thank you, GH fan! Funny stuff!

Stop trying to bring real life logic into fantasy story writing. Smh

Right!!!!!

Hear, hear! You’re spot-on, James! Let’s send Sonny to the slammer and focus some stories on him and his fellow inmates at Pentonville!

Thank you, Bill. You have an interesting twist on the matter. Cheers!

Good lord!! You just had to bring Trump into the conversation. STHU!!

Awww. Someone is shaking her head over logic. Isn’t that adorable.

Feels like a bad dream where not much makes sense. Drew barely knew McConkey and wouldn’t need consoling. Nina (the old family friend of McConkey who would have more reason to be upset) was absent during Drew’s speech and still doesn’t know McConkey died. I don’t know what to make of Sonny. My time with GH was pre-Sonny LnL glory days then I began re-watching in 2015. I haven’t seen this cold blooded shooter in Sonny in that time but maybe he existed in the past. I don’t know. Alexis leaving Kristina at the PCPD to visit Sonny rather than just calling him, thereby causing the situation to escalate. Kristina stealing her mom’s keys and fingerprinting her father’s guns……Good grief. Train wreck.

Sonny shot Dante in the chest after learning he was an undercover cop. He shot him, then Olivia walked in and told Sonny he just shot his son. He also shot and killed A.J. Quartermaine.

Wrong on the last part….

He technically “shot” AJ Quartermaine, in the sense that he picked up a gun that had already had the trigger pulled by Ava but it jammed up on her. Who knew that the Jerome family bought their guns at WalMart?? So we can be generous and assign 10% of the blame for the shooting to Sonny as he was holding the gun and aiming it at AJ, whether or not he actually had to pull the trigger.

Of course there’s the mitigating factors that Sonny walked in on a scene where AJ appeared to be strangling Ava. And Sonny at the time believed that AJ had murdered ConKate because she left a confusing message in her own blood.

In any case, the bullet didn’t even kill AJ. He died a week later of a cardiac arrest in his hospital bed. Shortly after Ava was seen in his room convincing herself that AJ had to die before he remembered that she had confessed to him that she had murdered ConKate, in order to preserve her brother Julian’s “Derek Wells” alias.

Drew was acting stupider then usual. As you said he only knew McConkey for a few weeks, acting like he lost dear ‘ole dad, and even stupider Willow, right there to hold his. hand.

Great actor. He made me detest his character, in spite of his gorgeous blue eyes.

Yep…I agree. When they make you hate them, they’re doing a great job. Same with K. Mansi, who plays Kristina. I’m so sick of her character doing the same disappointing behavior that everyone expects of her. If I have to hear “My baby” one more time! Everything she promised her sister went straight out tha window when she decided she wanted the baby for herself. Her excuse that Molly & T.J. arguing and may break up was weak and she knew that! Ugh! We knew the storyline from the minute it was introduced.

Feeling kind of sad the show couldn’t do anything with this historical character other than make him an agent of chaos. A grudge from almost 30 years ago just doesn’t explain his crazy vendetta against Sonny.

Why even bring Jagger back just to kill him off? Why not find another Sonny enemy in law enforcement? So Sonny kills Agent Cates off now what? Does the show bring in Jagger’s kid and little sis to avenge him? The original Stone is probably not happy that Sonny killed his big brother. I am sure the show won’t deal with the Robin fallout either.

Keep thinking there is some crazy twist around the corner. Agent Cates did look rather possessed at the end of his run. And then there is that strange FBI Agent with a wad of money stashed in her designer handbag. Who is she working for – certainly not the FBI. And why would the FBI take Ava up to GH’s version of “The Train Station”? My last question: Who was Agent Cates really working for – who was on the phone that rattled Jagger every time he/she called?

Is it a bit of a coincidence that Holly is showing up next week on the heels of all this havoc with Cates being shot? Holly and Selina Wu had a very nice project they worked on together the last time she was in town. Wondering now if Holly has got her hands back into the cookie jar again. Does she want to take over Port Charles and get rid of Sonny?

AJH was a great asset to the show as Jagger. He constantly held my attention despite how the story may have gone astray. Best Wishes on his future endeavors.

On another note, I’m disappointed that the writers didn’t go with a Who-Dun-It story. So many people wanted Cates to “pay”. Shame.

It could still turn out to be a Who-Done-It, I don’t think Sonny will be advertising the fact that he’s the killer and the gun isn’t his, unfortunately Kristina went to her dad’s apt and took his gun.The one good thing being, that bastard Cates is finally gone.

Hi Miss Violet. I agree with you from an earlier post about how Kristina may have inherited Sonny’s bi polar or other mental illness. I would prefer she see Dr. Collins right now instead of Alexis taking the reins. Every time Kristina seems like she’s gotten more mature we see her backslide. It’s a bit troubling that she can’t just sit still. A:Going to Ava’s to defend to her Dad, only to lose her baby. B:Getting her hands on Sonny’s gun and will probably get blamed now. I like Kristina and I feel bad for Kristina. I root for her. I appreciate a complex character. It has been uncomfortable seeing the ugliness between Kristina, Molly and T.J. though. At this point I think the only way to redemption and forgiveness is through a mental illness diagnosis.

It amazes me that Sonny would be wearing gloves and carrying what is probably an “untraceable” weapon, and yet would shoot a supposed Federal agent on the Q estate where dozens of potential witnesses were present including his own kids, one of whom is a cop.

Maybe he also had a “cleanup crew” waiting in the boat house to get rid of the body before anybody else shows up and notices Jagger is dead?

Seriously, when was the last time this show had a whodunnit?

Wasn’t the Hook storyline a “who’s doing it” ?

I dont’ even know where to begin, is he dead? did sonny outright killed him? are the writers gonna really let sonny get away with murder? I feel the writers screwed up Jagger big time, talk about most ruined character, I mean the actor was great whether they had him playing a good guy or a villain he deliver as an actor but the character was simply ruined royally by the writers. As for Sonny, I swear if the show keeps playing him like the mobster with the heart of gold I’m gonna puke. Sonny is exhausting to watch and so is Kristina, but kudos to the actors, Maurice and Kate M. are doing a great job, their character are a lot to take in and hard to root for.

The most horrible ending of John I really loved him he was so fresh and cute! So sad Sonny will get off again make him pay!

I am so he is gone could not stand him

Great actor.. he made us hate him and want him gone. He’s vendetta was a far stretch, though. For a man wanting a man to pay for having his gf/wife strip, and give her drugs is understandable. But it would have been more acceptable if he didn’t have an affair, and have a child by that person. His wife divorce him over that. If he loved Karen,he would have never cheated on her. He used his brother & an ex wife for his hatred of Sonny. Glad the character is gone.. Good luck to Adam

Thrilled Cates is gone!!!!

The whole Willow and Drew situation is awful… but might as well go for full on disgust and have Michael and Nina hook up !

It’s pitiful he’s sleeping with her mother Nina and Michael is his nephew GH went wrong on this one.

I am sad to bid farewell to my favorite GH character. It feels bitter sweet knowing how much this man gave to his role.He and Maura west had great untapped chemistry What a shame!

I wish you all the best in your future and will be looking forward to see what you do next!

Love it!!!

I have so many questions, but I’ll choose this:
1) which is easier? Voice overs in games or being a visual actor (tv or movies)

I know John Cates wasn’t your first choice, but I originally thought there would have been at least some good chemistry until the Sam/Spinelli spoof. I hate that John’s son lost his father in the process all because as John pointed out, Sonny groomed her. John wasn’t wrong. Cant wait for your next project and you’ll be missed on General Hospital. this fan will miss those blue eyes.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
