BH90210 ‘Reboot’ Premiere Scores In The Ratings; But Did You Love It … Or Hate It?

Courtesy/Fox

The ratings are in for the first installment of Fox’s BH90210 reboot, although it’s not technically a full-tilt reboot, but more of a twist on a reality-meets-scripted series.  As viewers and longtime fans of the most famous zip code witnessed, each of the actors from the original cast, taking part in the show, are playing versions of themselves. Cast members Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth are two of the shows four executive producers.

According to the numbers, Wednesday night’s premiere brought in 3.8 million viewers and a 1.5 demo rating which was by far atop the leader board for all series that aired that night.

In addition, those numbers make BH90210 the best ratings that Fox received all summer long on Wednesday nights.  It also makes it 2019’s summer season of TV fare highest rated debut and best performing series in nearly three years for a Fox series that is on during this time of year.

With the cast that includes: Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green, Garth, Spelling, Shannen Doherty, Gabrielle Carteris, Ian Ziering, fans took to social media across the country during the broadcast in different time zones with dissenting opinions on the opener, either they were very enthusiastic about the clever way the series merged real-life with the antics of the BH902010 gang, or had no idea what they watched, and were expecting something else.

The opener also honored longtime cast member Luke Perry, who played Dylan on the series, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 52.

So, did you check out the premiere of BH902010’s ‘reboot’?  Did you love it, hate it, or were somewhere in between? Let us know via the comment section below.

The OG BH 90210 is one of my all time favorite TV shows of all time, so I have REALLY been looking forward to this reboot! I truly didn’t know this was going to be a scripted semi-reality show, so, although I liked it, I was a bit let down, since what I was really looking forward to was a TRUE reboot of BH 90210. I was more interested in learning where the CHARACTERS lives had led them over the past 19 years.

I knew what it was and was curious as to how they were going to pull it off. After a shaky start (first :15 – :20), it started coming together and I realized how much I actually enjoyed Tori Spelling and Jenni Garth (my favorite parts of the show). I thought the ‘loosely based on’ the real lives of the actors was clever and funny and brought charm to the show – but seeing as how all those ‘loosely based’ lives started spinning off into complete fabrications by the end of it, I’m not sure how it will work going forward.

I grew up on 90210 (haven’t watched reboot). Looks interesting.

Way better concept than recent reboots. Will & Grace and the good but unfortunate dilemma with the Roseanne/Connors showed that with good writing and with the original production team a comedy reboot can work.

90210 took real-life drama applied it to an already memorable format with all the original cast on-board and made it work.

Hopefully, they can build from this strong start and create stories that are realistic and modern.

If this is what a modern-day 90210 looks like then I’m here for it.

Horrifying!!! Looks like the show received a huge quantity discount on botox and fillers….

I was prepared to not like it, but was quickly won over. Loved it! Hope it continues to do well.

Original 90210 was a guilty pleasure. The CW reboot was a big disappointment.

This one? Just more useless “reality” dragonshit that nobody needs or asked for. Watched the first episode…doubt I’ll bother with another one. Luke Perry opted out of this one even before he had the ultimate excuse not to show up. Now we know why.

Hated it. I only lasted maybe 5 minutes before I deleted it.

It used to be one of my weekly favorites, along with 7Melrose Place. I will watch one or two more, before making my final decision. I also want to see how Brenda/Shannen plays into all this.

I love it.

Hate the reboot! No one gives a crap about fictionalized drama of the stars’ “real” lives. We can Google if we want to know what is going on what is going on IRL. What I wanted to know is what is happening with the CHARACTERS! What a piece of writing garbage! Turned it off and did my laundry. It was a better use of time.

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

No word yet on when Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story will debut on Netflix, but it is assumed later this year.

With the Melrose Place revival the talk of the town, now Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco, GH, ex-Nick, B&B and ex-Peter Burns, MP) has weighed-in on it and if he would show up in the new series if it should find a home.

Currently, CBS Studios is developing a reboot starring Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton. But what is Dr. Peter Burns were to show up alive?

As those who saw the end of the original MP know, Peter and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and then tied the knot with Peter on a beach, supposedly in a “happily ever after” scenario.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Wagner expressed, what we all know who watch the soaps, that no one is never, ever really gone for good. Jack expressed, “You never really die on a soap, right? How they unfold those two characters (Peter and Amanda), it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story.”

Wagner added, “That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you like to see Jack Wagner return as Dr. Peter Burns on Melrose Place, or Frisco Jones on GH, or both? Comment below.
