Days Of Our Lives
DAYS OF OUR LIVES: The Iconic Horton House Burns to the Ground; Harris Clings to Life
There was plenty of evil intent on Monday’s February 13th episode of Days of our Lives. First, fans were not happy that the series chose to burn to a crisp the beloved Horton home that has been the centerpiece of the show since 1965.
The Horton house is where Tom (MacDonald Carey) and Alice Horton (Frances Reid) lived and raised their family for decades. All of the Horton family Christmas ornament hangings have been held in that set, and so much more.
In story, a masked man pours gasoline all over the inside of the Horton living room then sets it on fire and exits. When the fire alarm goes off, Chad (Billy Flynn) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) come downstairs to find the place torched. In short order, Doug (the late Bill Hayes) and Julie, Chad and his children, all make it to safety outside and watch the iconic home burn.

Julie is overcome with emotion. She cries out about all the history there is in the home as firefighters work to extinguish the fire. Doug tells Julie that the important thing is that they’re all safe, but Julie watches almost half her life go up in smoke! Meanwhile, Thomas (Cary Christopher) asks Chad about the pictures of his mommy! Chad is about to respond his son, but gets a call with a voice which has been altered saying. “Maybe next time you’ll listen.”
Any Days of our Lives fans, we are sure, had trouble with the decision to torch the Horton home. Hopefully, as previewed, this will give Julie at least a story as she is determined to rebuild the home in upcoming episodes.

Elsewhere, there were gunshots and wounds and a near-death situation for Harris Michaels (Steve Burton) after he was shot. Ava (Tamara Braun) finds Harris outside the Bistro, bleeding out. She flashes back to Harris telling her that he loves her.

Tripp, Wendy (Victoria Grace) and Stefan (Brandon Barash) come upon Ava and Harris. Next, Tripp goes into doctor mode. Ava cries that this wasn’t supposed to happen. Stefan asks what she meant by that and she responds, “nothing.” When Rafe (Galen Gering) and Jada (Elia Cantu) arrive on the scene, Rafe gets a call about the shooting at the Brady Pub. Later, they check Harris’ room and Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) reveals he thinks Clyde is responsible for the shooting and that he was coming after him.
Outside the bistro, as the paramedics arrive, Tripp loses Harris’ pulse and starts chest compressions. After awhile, they get Harris to breath again and he is taken away.
So what did you think about the torching of the Horton home? Did it upset you? With Steve Burton exiting Days of our Lives on-screen, which was originally believed to be in the spring, will Harris make a full recovery? Comment below.
It doesn’t matter if it gives SSH story – it’s a story nobody wants to watch. With limited episodes left for Doug, it’s just damn sad.
Ron needs to either explain the story or flat out blame it on Allar and the substitute writers. If it was part of his outline, it’s his dumbest move since killing AJ Quartermaine.
Obviously Redneck Clyde was behind the shooting of Jason… er… Harris, and the attempted hit on Lucas.
Not so sure he torched the Horton house though. Sure, the timing suggests it was part of a three-pronged assault at the same time (and as an owner of many pitchforks, I’m familiar with three pronged weapons) but….
….that distorted voice that called Chad at the end of the show… didn’t sound at all like Clyde to me. But it DID sound a lot like Everett. Or NotNick. Or “Bobby” or whoever he actually is.
Why would he burn down the Horton house? Hell only knows, but why would he turn up there so many times if he’s not a Horton… but just happens to look exactly like a dead Horton relative.
Could Nick Fallon have a long lost twin who was given up for adoption? Sure, why not? It’s the most common soap cliche ever. And considering the weirdness of that branch of the family tree… his Grandma Marie fell in love with her own brother Tommy, and it freaked her out so much she became a nun. Even though the Hortons were not Catholics at the time. Nick’s mother Jessica also became a nun at some point. And Fuzzy Devil Memory is blurring all the details, but I think she also had some toxic relationships either before or after she put on the penguin suit, one of which probably resulted in Nick being born. So if they wrote in a long lost twin given up for adoption, it wouldn’t be that strange.
And the other thing we know about kids being given up for adoption on soaps… some of them really have an axe to grind against their biological family members, blaming them for everything that went wrong in their lives. (see the original Carly on GH, the real Eve Donovan on Days, etc.)
Destroy the touchstone to the past, dumb move
Why did they have to burn the house? It makes no sense to destroy history.
I think it is disappointing and disgusted that the writers chose to erase all of days 60+ years of history by burning the house that is been part of days for so many years completely unforgivable!!
Whose reprehensible idea was it to destroy history. The Horton home was the heart and home of the show.
I too have watched days since the beginning.Wothout Nicole show name and Eric finally together they’re will be no show The rest is all repeat .Back to past with Pon really find something new or I am totally turning it off
The Horton home going up in smoke symbolizes what’s happened to a once iconic show. It’s been a smoking pile of ashes for several years. This is spectacularly disrespectful but sadly, I haven’t been able to care about the show for a while.
Do you no longer care about loyal followers? I’ve been watching since I watched with my Mother. So it’s been at least 57 or 58 years and I’m 69 (almost 70) now. I heard you are planning on getting rid of Days? Is this true (which would be extremely uncalled for)? And why get rid of “Nicole”? You got rid of the problem maker … don’t punish a wonderful actress like Arianna!!!
And further more, why destroy the Horton home? We have already lost Bill Hayes by natural causes. (And my sympathy goes out to Susan Seaforth-Hayes.) Do you have to take EVERYTHING from us???
Livid over the decision to destroy the house and all of the history. It’s a slap in the face to longtime viewers.

ARE SOAP MORE RELEVANT IN 2026?
With the daytime soaps being mentioned in the mainstream of late, including a recent New York Times essay, Ryan Gosling’s high praise of Days of Our Lives icon Deidre Hall (Marlena), Late night host, John Oliver asking to be cast on a soap after doing a bit on his show, it seems daytime drama may be culturally relevant again, or is it really?
