DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Sonny and Will Say Their Final Goodbyes and Leave Salem

Photo: JPI

Not a happy day for fans of Days of our Lives’ WilSon.  Although it has been known now for over seven months that Daytime Emmy-winners, Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny) were let-go from the long-running NBC soap opera, it still was hard to watch them have their final scenes on Tuesday’s episode.

As was in the dialogue, the writers and the show left the door open for a Sonny and Will return down the line when Sonny uttered: “Goodbye Salem, for now.” And, as is with most DAYS characters, they seem to somehow return at one time or another.  But still, it looks like the soap has made the decision to rest the characters.

Before their final exit, Sonny and Will had a visit with Sami (Alison Sweeney) to tell her they are moving to Arizona. Sami is up to her eyeballs in trouble with the custody hearing for Allie’s baby versus Nicole (Arianne Zucker).  Will tells his mother he wants her blessing before they go, and that he already received a blessing from Marlena (Deidre Hall).

An emotional Sami tells Will how sorry she is for all the things she has done, and the mistakes she had made when she was younger and along the way that impacted him.  In tears, Will says he is going to miss her, and the two of then share a hug,

After Sami leaves to head to the custody hearing, Will and Sonny look at Allie’s baby and the two talk about how things worked out for the best; even though Allie did not ultimately let them adopt her child.  The two realize they are about to give their daughter, Ari, a new life and Will thinks another baby and a dog might be in their future, too!

Later, it’s time for one last look at Horton Town Square, and Sonny and Will remember their love from the beginning in a short flashback with a few moments of how they came together.

Will says it’s a tradition for when a Horton leaves Salem to visit the dedication to Tom and Alice in the ‘Square’.  Finally, it’s time for Sonny and Will to say goodbye to Salem for now as they walk out together..

So, what did you think of the final episode of Chandler and Freddie’s? Did you want more time spent on WilSon’s history in the flashback montage? Are you sad to see them go? Comment below.

Yes, a proper montage with all the scripted flashbacks. I have a feeling some were cut. How unfortunate. But what was included was still touching. Drew tears for this fan.

Hopefully they will be back by the Hellidays, just like Rafe, Gabi, and most probably Ciara & Hope.

It’s Feb2021 and Sonny and Will are still gone.

No offense, but, it was time. The moment Will got his memories back was the moment I was ready for him and Sonny to exit stage left. The character of Will worked so much better without his familiar memories, and Chandler Massey worked so much better with Christopher Sean (ex-Paul). I would welcome Massey and only Massey back anytime!

BIGGEST MISTAKE. Their ratings still suck as of February 2021. And the fan backlash has failed to get Ken Corday and Ron Corivati to budge. The longer Chandler Massey and Freddie Smith are gone the increased chance they’ll move on and won’t be able or want to return to Days of Our Lives.

Ron Carlivati is Gay himself. I don’t think he had any choice. NBC was being hard nosed. Which means that budget was not the reason. Storyline was.

I lined it. But AM STUPID FURIOUS that we got no explanation why those idiots fired them. I have not watched since. I hope they come back full time soon. But will not hold my breath.

Louise Sorel Back Taping Episodes at Days of our Lives

During a guest appearance with Harvey Brownstone on his celebrity You Tube interview show, Louise Sorel revealed that she is back in-studio taping all-new episodes of Days of our Lives as Vivian Alamain.

This will mark the first on-screen appearance by Sorel in over three years.  However, we heard Sorel’s voice when Vivian made a call to Stefan (Brandon Barash) back in January of this year.

The last few times Vivian was on-screen in Salem, she was played by two different Daytime Emmy-winning actresses. First, One Life to Live icon, Robin Strasser (ex-Dorian) played the part and then exited the canvas back in the fall of 2019.  Next, Linda Dano (ex-Felicia, AW and ex-Rae OLTL), took on the role in early 2021 for a brief stint.

In this newly released interview, Sorel dished with Brownstone on the rigors of taping a soap opera, and how on her first day back she felt “God-awful.”  Louise qualified that with how she found herself apologizing left and right to the cast and crew because it had been awhile since she had so much dialog to recite and to get back into the swing of things.

The longtime DAYS favorite also speaks to the pace in which everyone works at DAYS to get the episodes completed each day in front of the camera.  Since Days of our Lives tapes so far in advance, it will be months till Sorel is seen on the Peacock streaming series.

Check out Sorel’s interview below, where she also shares some behind the scenes intel on her time on Santa Barbara as Augusta Lockridge.

Head Writer Ron Carlivati on Bo & Hope Return: “This Is Old School Days of our Lives, and It’s Something That The Audience Has Waited a Very, Very Long Time to See”

Next week, begins the continuation of the shocking story arc that started last summer on Peacock’s limited streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter 2.

In it, DAYS fans learned that Bo (Peter Reckell) has been kept in cryogenic cylinder for years, and was brought back to life by Stefano’s daughter, Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson).

Now, circle March 16th for Reckell’s first episode back as Bo and March 17th as Kristian Alfonso’s first episode back as Hope to the mothership and Days of our Lives.

Head writer, Ron Carlivati previewed the storyline in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue on newsstands now.

Carlivati shared: “We pick up Hope where we left her off.  She had gone though this whole experience with Harris Michaels (Steve Burton), finding out that he was in league with Megan Hathaway, and we ended her on ‘Beyond Salem’ like, ‘I have to bring Megan Hathaway to justice.  I have to find her and make her pay.”‘

While Hope is on mission, she will also have Harris Michaels back in the mix, and as the head scribe shares, “Hope is on a collision course with Bo, and she’s unaware of it.”

As to what lies ahead for viewers, Ron revealed: “This is old-school Days of our Lives, and it’s something that the audience has waited a very, very long time to see.  You won’t want to miss it.”

Check out Peacock’s promo for the return of Bo and Hope below which teases that while most people get over their high school sweethearts, this one never did, alluding to Megan’s past relationship with Bo, which is the impetus for her revenge plot.

Now let us know, are you looking forward to seeing how Bo and Hope’s enduring love story continues? Comment below.
