Even after it’s beautiful series finale on Sunday night on PBS, Downton Abbey is still making pop culture news.

First, the ratings for the season six finale and final episode of the British soap are in, and it was watched by an average of 9.6 millon viewers making it the highest rated season-ender of the series, but not the most-watched episode ever of the series on PBS.  With its 9.6 million viewers on Sunday, the last installment makes it the fourth largest audience to date for the series, behind only the 10.2 million for its season four premiere, the 10.1 million for its season five premiere and the 9.9 million it attracted in January as it kicked off its final season.

Elsewhere, on Monday’s night’s episode of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, none other than Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe winner John Legend performed the haunting theme to Downton Abbey with a twist! Legend added never-before- heard lyrics in a humorous salute to the series complete with photos of the characters he is singing about encircling his piano.

I really like John Legend, but this attempt at humor just wasn’t very becoming to me. Love the theme music but wasn’t wild about the lyrics. It’s a little too soon for me, as I’m really missing the show.

I totally agree. I like John Legend as well but did not really appreciate these lyrics coming so soon after the ending of what was my favorite show of all time. I will miss it so much that it’s difficult to find any humor regarding it right now.
