Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement honoree, Edward J. Scott, is returning to his original stomping grounds at CBS’ The Young and the Restless, this time as the senior producer of the daytime drama.

Scott had previously served a 14-year run over at Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful in the same capacity. In coming home to the ranks in Genoa City, Scott will be part of the production unit under Josh Griffith, the top-rated soaps executive producer and head writer.

In addition, Ed would be back on the series where his wife, Y&R icon, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) is still front and center on-camera.  Both Melody and Ed received 2024 Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmys at the ceremony back in June of this year. Deadline broke the news of Scott’s B&B exit to head back to Y&R.

Edward is a seven-time Daytime Emmy-winner. He began his association with the Bell family and Bell-Phillip Television Productions back in 1976 when he joined The Young and The Restless as an associate producer. He was with the show, even as its EP, at one point through 2007. Next, he ventured over to Days of our Lives as a co-executive producer of that soap, before returning to Bell-Phillip and The Bold and the Beautiful from 2010-2024.

Back in May of this year, it was also announced that Steve Kent was no longer with Sony Pictures Television where he oversaw Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless. Currently, he serves as Y&R’s executive in charge of production working alongside of Josh Griffith and company

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Edward J. Scott and Melody Thomas Scott after receiving their Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 51st annual Daytime Emmys, where Ed spoke about his the rise in his soap opera producing career and forever being indebted to Bill and Lee Phillip Bell (Co-creators of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful) for the life has lead.

So, what do you think of Edward J. Scott returning to The Young and the Restless as the soap’s senior producer behind the scenes? Comment below.

He is 80 years old. Can’t they find some younger producers who have fresh ideas instead of recycling the same old group.

Ok I’m going to go full blown and get attacks everywhere and frankly I don’t care! All this means is they are not moving forward you have a show in reverse and I like him but you are still having a 83 year old on five days and a 71 year old the same conversation the same everything since I was a kid. Conversations about business in restaurants making women mental cases and quite frankly no one gives a crap does anyone care anymore that Sharon after everything that has went down still hung up on a horn dog . Victor his children are adults and he still tells them who to date . Now one last thing we have voice coaches my sister use to be one/MTS still talks with a baby voice she has the money go to a voice coach . Drives me nuts and I like the actress.

Wow. I’m speechless.

Wtf?

I hope this might be the start of Y&R’s return to its greatness. But I doubt it as long as Josh Griffith remains as EP and HW. But I can dream, right!?

100% correct Susan! When I read he’d be working UNDER Josh Griffith, then it makes no difference as CBS and SONY allow him to destroy Y&R.

Girl you are so right on that, I wished JOSH would go elsewhere!

Ed Scott is a good producer. He previously did good work at Y&R and maybe his efforts will help. Now, just because a person is blessed to reach a golden age, it doesn’t mean they are worthless? Which young actors on the canvas are the next Jack Abbott and Victor Newman? Kyle and Adam? I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Let Eric Braeden do what he loves best – You got that?!

One could only hope Josh Griffith is on his way out! I look forward to Mr. Scott coming back and getting things in order!

Wow!! I am absolutely surprised and happy that he’s back at #YR. I was stunned when he got canned from that show years ago. Welcome back Ed!!

get rid of Josh, give the show some life

This is a big step in the right direction! I hope this means a shakeup with the writing staff including the awful Josh Griffith. Ed Scott was phenomenal with y&r back in the day. I don’t understand the negative comments on him at all. His y&r was can’t miss television! I will say it only works, though, with a new writing regime. Get Nancy Curlee and Stephen Demorest on the phone stat! Their Guiding Light was the golden era of daytime TV.

I think the Young and the Restless is the most boring soap on television and needs a really radical shakeup. No offense to Mr. Scott but It really needs new blood. The only thing holding the show together is Eric Braeden and Melanie Thomas Smith. It has no working class families, no teen scene, a morbid preoccupation with Cassie’s death that is revisited every couple of years and tedious corporate intrigue that goes no where. It’s almost unwatchable and needs to cut its very large cast.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Nick Confesses His Drug Problem to Victor; Joshua Morrow, Mark Grossman, Eric Braeden Bring the Newman Bond

Published

When The Young and the Restless can deliver an emotional side to their stories and their family dynamics, it usually makes for some great scenes delivered by their A-list cast.

Such was the case on the Friday, May 1 episode when Adam (Mark Grossman) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) returned to Genoa City and gave their father, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), an update on what had gone down with Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) in Las Vegas.

As Victor questioned, “What the hell happened?” Nick piped up, “We both made mistakes along the way, but we’re here now and we’re sorry for giving you so much worry on top of everything else that you’re dealing with,” which was in reference to Victor trying to reclaim his company Newman Enterprises et al.

NICK’S CONFESSION

Next, Nick, explains one of the ways he messed up while trying to go after Matt Clark, when he admitted to this father with tears in his eyes, “That’s one of the ways I messed up … I took Fentanyl willingly. Some of it was because of Matt, but most of it was on me. I was in a lot of pain, dad, after my accident, I was burning through my prescription meds really quickly after I left the hospital. I could see that it was becoming a problem. But honestly, I thought that I could manage it.  I was wrong. I was out in LA and Matt had taken Noah (Lucas Adams) and Sienna (Tamara Braun) and he gave me this bag of pills and said I could use it to trade for information. When I went out to that drug warehouse, he was trying to convince me and Sharon (Sharon Case) that Noah was a drug addict. I just put the pills in my pocket of my jacket and I came back to Genoa City and I was in a lot of pain, dad, and I was wearing that jacket. I put my hands in the pocket and the pills were there.”

Nick sadly added, “I was desperate. I couldn’t get anymore prescription meds, so I took the fentanyl  I’m deeply ashamed that I was so weak, but all I can do is stand here and tell you the truth that I’m going to make this right and I’ll get better.”

BROTHER TO BROTHER

Adam stood up for his brother and reconfirmed to Victor the plan for help Nick through his pill addiction, “Nick is already on his way to doing that. Sharon has set up an appointment with an outpatient facility. He’s going to do the meetings and he’s going to push through this better than ever.”

Courtesy/CBS

“You should also know that the only reason I’m standing here is because of Adam,” Nick confessed to Victor. “Every time I fell, you were there to pick me up. You risked your life to save me, and that’s not something I will ever forget.”

In the climatic and emotional ending of the scene, Nick in tears admits his shame to his dad, who comes in to give him hug. Nick says, “I’m so sorry. I know that this is the last thing you or this family needs.”

All three actors, Joshua Morrow, Mark Grossman and Eric Braeden, were excellent in this exchange in their scenes, but at its epicenter continues to be the Emmy-worthy performances by Y&R MVP, Joshua Morrow. Nick’s heartbreaking journey and fall from grace with his pill addiction problem has finally shown the clinks in the armor of the man who is always on the ready to help others … now he needs to let others help him through this. Can we do it?

So, what did you think of the scenes between the Newman man featuring Joshua, Mark and Eric on the Friday episode of Y&R? And though who watched also know that at the very end, Matt Clark who clearly has been injured wakes up from being conked out, so there is more revenge to come on the Newman clan. Share your thoughts below, but take a look at these scenes from a Canadian viewers who saw them air yesterday.

THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Matt Clark Detonates a Bomb and Seemingly Blows Up the Newmans!

Published

If you want to get rid of most of the Newman clan in one fell swoop, Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) found a way to do it on the Tuesday, April 28 episode of The Young and the Restless. But, was he successful? The outcome won’t be revealed until tomorrow, but for now it has left Y&R fans wondering and considering the fate of Nick (Joshua Morrow), Sharon (Sharon Case), Noah (Lucas Adams) and Adam (Mark Grossman).

In story, Adam and Nick arrives to an abandoned gas station outside of Las Vegas in an effort to save a kidnapped Sharon and Noah. However, by the time Nick and Adam arrived on the scene, Nick was in downward spiral after he collapsed on the floor after having popped a fentanyl pill laced with bad drugs within it, thank to his arch-nemesis Matt Clark.

Watching from his car on a hidden camera that is sending the video feed to his phone, Matt snarled, “Little Rich Boy Newman finally hit on the bag from the bad batch. What a shame.” Nick was in bad shape and Sharon asked Adam what happened. He explained Nick was driving the car on their way to rescue them and he was in bad shape. To help him with his withdrawals, Adam enabled Nick to take a pill to help him, with the plan to get Nick to rehab, immediately after saving them.

MATT PROMISES AN EPIC FIREBALL

Noah realized the laced fentanyl pills had to come from Matt. Meanwhile, Sharon came to the realization that if Nick was going through withdrawals, he must have been taking pills for awhile now, which Adam concurred, and that his working theory is Matt slipped Nick some tainted pills.

Later, Matt called Riza (Tina Casciani) to tell her “I have the Newman clan cornered. They are right where I wanted them all along.” He then shock her by adding, “There’s gonna be a huge fireball. Like, epic. And the Newmans are gonna have a front-row seat.”

Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) who is with Riza in a hotel room in Vegas learns of on Matt’s deadly plan. Chelsea calls Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) back in Genoa City for urgent help, and he tells her her to send him the coordinates immediately of where Adam, Sharon, Nick and Noah are.

SIENNA PLAYS THE EX-WIFE CARD

As if luck would have it, Sienna (Tamara Braun) who is on her way to the abandoned gas station sees Matt’s car pulled over on the side of the road. Next, she jumps in the passenger seat. Sienna pleads with Matt to let the Newmans go and whatever he is planning to do to them to stop.

Sienna goes so far to say, if you let the Newmans go you can have “me.” Matt doesn’t buy her act. She pleads again and says, “Please don’t say it’s too late for us.” A vindictive Matt, swipes the feed of the gas station off of his phone and in its place becomes a remote detonator. Matt presses the button, triggering an explosion, and some sort of bomb that blows up the gas station and presumably everyone inside. We fade to black.

Now let us know, do you think all of the Newmans got out before the explosion? Will anyone be injured or missing? Will Matt Clark just get away or take Sienna with him as a bargaining chip once again? Weigh-in via the comment section.
