Never underestimate the power of a good soap opera, right? Well, here is another! Last night, the highly touted new soap in the hip hop world, Empire scored some very impressive numbers!

According to TV Line, “The series premiere on Wednesday night brought in 9.8 million total viewers and a 3.7 demo rating. That marks the network’s highest-rated series launch in three years (since Touch), and broadcast TV’s No. 2 debut of the season (trailing ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder).”  At the epicenter of this “Dynasty-esque” drama is the talents of Terrence Howard and Taraji B. Hensen as Lucious and Cookie! And how about those one-liners of Cookie’s?

In story as viewers learned, Lucious has ALS and wants to decide which of his three sons in man enough to run the company when he is gone! Meanwhile, Cookie just got out of the slammer after 16 years and wanted what was rightfully hers, half of the music business empire!  And even at the end of the first episode there was a death when Lucious proved he will kill to protect what is his!

So did you check out Empire?  If so, what was you favorite part? Will Empire become the next hottest enduring primetime soap opera? Comment below!

Media has greatly changed during the past decade as to what the public likes/wants to view..
Empire is an example of ‘change’..
It will be a blockbuster, a must see..

goes to show why the soaps struggle to get ‘new’ viewers because they are still in the 80’s the 20th century media production lol .. and we love them !!! 🙂

I agree su0000…Dallas had to retain it’s 90’s soul (purely from a long lasting formula viewpoint) to do as well as it did…and it was full of holes…full of camp…and like Empire makes me think of one of my favorite lingos…”Once upon a time there was an engineer..choo choo charlie was his name we hear…CHARLIE SAYS…Love my GOOD N PLENTY…CHARLIE SAYS…HELPS TO RING THE BELL….love the nod to what makes a primetime soap PRIME TIME!!!

Let’s say 80’s soul that propelled it to the 90’s…either way…LOL

Taraji P. Henson Developing Cookie Lyon ‘Empire’ Spinoff With New First-Look Deal Via 20th Century Fox

Looks like more ‘Cookie’ is on the way, if this long bantered about Empire spinoff takes place.  But, news today via Deadline makes the whole thing look more promising! Series star, Taraji P. Henson has signed a new first-look deal with 20th Century Fox where she would star and be one of the EP’s of the new show.

The show would be written by Empire EP Danny Strong with Stacy A. Littlejohn and Yolonda Lawrence, and Empire director Sanaa Hamri to take those reins again behind the camera.

Henson said in a statement on the deal: “I believe that normalizing stories around stigmatizing matters will make them more palatable for audiences to embrace.  Art can change perception and I plan to develop projects that can help further the conversation.  I also aim to help cultivate and establish new young talent and their stories because they are our future and deserve a voice and a platform to be heard. I’m so excited to have 20th, led by the talented Carolyn Cassidy, support me in this new endeavor!”

20th Century Fox TV president Carolyn Cassidy shared on Thursday: “We were lucky to have a front row seat to Taraji’s meteoric rise as a fixture on television through Empire.  Through that relationship everyone at the company grew to appreciate her passion for storytelling and her strong creative gut instinct. With Empire finished we look forward to helping her explore stories that need to be told through her talent and advocacy.”

Empire ended its sixth and final season a bit shorter than expected due to COVID-19 shutting down production, but now Henson has a way forward to tell us more of Cookie’s story.  This would just be one of the projects Henson would have under this deal with 20th Century Fox.
