Kelly Thiebaud Returns to ‘General Hospital’: But Who Will the Daytime Emmy-Winner Play This Time?
General Hospital is set to bring back another fan favorite and lets hope this one can stick around for some time! Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud is reportedly on her way back to tape all-new episodes of the ABC soap opera.
Previously, Thiebaud played Dr. Britt Westbourne on the daytime drama series, but the character wound up poisoned by ”The Hook” (which turned out to Heather Webber) serial killer and died right in front of our eyes. At the time of her death, Britt was set to leave Port Charles and eventually succumb to Huntington’s disease.
As of yet, there is no official word on just what role Thiebaud will be playing on-screen when she steps back on to the soap opera. Kelly is set to return next month in July. Could it be that when she turns up, she will somehow be a very much alive Britt, a twin sister, or someone completely new?

On her return, Kelly told Deadline, “It is good to be home,” while GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini added, “I am thrilled to have Kelly back on our show We have some great twists and turns planned for her character.”
Before, Britt had died, she was embarking on a romance with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) until a cave collapsed on him and he was believed to be dead. With Burton back on the show and the arrival of Thiebaud, could GH be aiming to give Jason a bonafide love interest capturing the on-screen chemistry of Steve and Kelly from the past?

Previously, Thiebaud appeared on GH when she made her debut back in 2012. She left in 2015, and then returned from 2017-18 and again for a longer run in 2020-23. It was in 2022, the actress took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and in 2023, received yet another nomination in the category.
Thiebaud was also seen in the now canceled ABC drama series, Station 19 in the recurring role of Eva, She first played the part in 2020, returned to the series in 2022. Kelly’s voice can currently be heard in the role of Dr. Layla Carreri in the audio soap opera, Montecito currently on podcast platforms everywhere.
So, what do you think about Kelly Thiebaud returning to General Hospital? Who do you think will she playing? And, do you think she might be a love interest once again for Steve Burton’s Jason? Share your thoughts via the comment section below, but below check out our interview with Kelly right after she won her Daytime Emmy.
I’ve always loved her so this is great news!
This is not good news on two fronts one she said she never wanted to come back and shes doing it for a paycheck and two it’s jex trolling because she dies saving joss and that’s how joss and dex started out
Oh for Hell’s sake…
Are you going to start this dragonshit again in every thread now?
I’m entitled to my opinion.
So am I! Dex is worth 100 Lucky’s, 100 Britt’s, 100 Gio’s, 100 Emma’s and 100 puppies put together.
We’ve heard this ad nauseum so give it a rest.
Make me. My love for Dex will go on no matter what.
There she goes again.
Think that’s bad? Now someone is “Gh fan”
Please don’t think it’s me Harry.
Haven’t seen anything bad coming from GH Fan yet but you could follow Steve’s example and call yourself OG GH Fan. And to be safe, Satan should call himself OG Satan.
Are you the same Harry as OG Harry?
Maybe I should now go by OG Steve (TM) to trademark it, lol
Happy to be the founding member of the OG club.
I’d know your style anywhere, Original Steve.
Sorry. In this case I was just kidding. I mean my name is rather common so I certainly can’t claim it. I only take umbrage when another Harry comes on to gleefully root for Queen Carly. But that hasn’t happened in quite awhile.
Thanks Harry.. I still keeping wondering where are our other fellow posters Rebecca1 and Violet Lemm… they have been silent for a while.. hope they both are well.
Violet revealed in previous posts that she’s in her early 90s. Her well worded comments have been an inspiration. Also sending good thoughts her way.
Harry… your reply comments often read like “a warm hug”. I often felt like the only guy who watched and loved ABC soaps growing up..
But now in my 60’s… even harder to find local GH fans
Wow ! Kelly Thiebaud could read a phonebook and it would be exciting! This news made my weekend.
Awesome news. Such a dynamic actress. Since we saw Liesl spend quite some time with Britt’s body, I doubt it’s her.
If she’s playing a character that they don’t mention the resemblance to Britt, they’ll need to remove Britt’s picture from the memorial wall.
Out there guess – Sarah Webber? Pairing her with Jason would bring drama for Elizabeth.
I like your ‘pout there’ guess, OG Steve!
I doubt we will ever see Sarah Webber again, in any form. As if yesterday’s news wasn’t evidence enough, it seems obvious that the Valentini regime has no interest in keeping the “traditional” families of Port Charles populated – unless they can retcon a newbie into those families (i.e. Cody, Sasha, and Gio)
If they were going to bring Sarah back at all, they probably would have done so last year when we got a brief recast of Jeff Webber and finally found out who Elizabeth’s mother was, after all these years. And of course, neither of them stuck around for very long.
What about playing Celia Quartermaine’s long lost daughter? She bears a striking resemblance to Celia, and it would be fun to see her go toe to toe with Tracy. Failing that, she could play Sasha’s big sister with whom she also resembles.
I still say that Yuri is the son of Celia and her husband Grant Andrews. They just up and disappeared one day, never to be heard of again, so it wouldn’t be out of the question that Grant got “homesick” after the breakup of the USSR and he and Celia moved back there and raised their son in Grant’s native country.
We’re more likely to see a Sarah return than ever have Celia turn up in PC again. She was a poor attempt (similar to Alexandra before her) to add another female to the Q household after Tracy departed. Celia was so far removed from Edward’s branch of the family that she was able to carry on with Jimmy Lee.
Now, if evil Grant Putnam and a new satanic dog were to come and haunt Anna again – that would be fun.
I was flattered when they named that Rottweiler after me, but he wasn’t really such an evil dog in the end. He and Anna became friends, once she started feeding him.
That’s a flaw with all dogs really. Even Cerberus has that weakness. It might be the reason for some of the escapes from Hell over the years.
Or bring back Sky Quartermaine/Chandler
Please, God…let her be Britt the Britch…I love that character and even though she died in front of us, the writers can find a way to undo her death.
Either way, glad Kelly is back on the show!!
Happy to say that Frank Valentini finally listened to a Devil’s offers to send Britt back up. I’ve been trying to do this since Jason came back last year.
YEAH!!!! The only time that I have enjoyed Jason since his most recent return from the dead was when he was paired with Britt, so hopefully the two actors will get the opportunity that was taken from them previously.
FANTASTIC!
Can we bring back the great Kathleen Gatti also?
Yes, please!!!
Seems likely that they will use Britt’s medical condition, and likely long recovery process as an excuse to explain why Dr. Obrecht has been MIA herself for the last few years. Probably set up in that clinic in Switzerland again. The same one where Robin, Robert, and Duke were all held as vegetable-prisoners a decade or so ago.
Which of course leaves the question… Is Scotty Baldwin over there too?
Happy to see her back, but if they pair her again with Jason , and sideline Liz , (now that lucky is leaving) it won’t be fair, why can’t this show concentrate on the people they have there right now instead of always doing big returns with disappointing results?
This is amazing!
Best news.I heard all week.I hope they put her with Jason no matter who she plays
YES!!!!!
In general, I hate it when they rewrite what they’ve done (we know Britt is dead, we saw it, come on now), but if they go that route in this case and have her come back as Britt, I could probably get behind it (i.e., buy whatever half-baked explanation they come up with and just move on), because it would certainly be no worse than some of the utterly ridiculous storyline turns of late (don’t get me started on the whole Gio mess). KT is worth it (i.e., buying the ret-con), and I’m actually afraid if they try to create a different character for her, it will fail epicly (see: Roger Howarth and Michael Easton and their many characters). Britt should never have been killed off, but they did it; it might be better to just have a ridiculous rewrite and bring Britt back, and we can all roll our collective eyes for a couple of weeks and then get on with it. We the viewers have swallowed worse (and for far less gain).
I completely agree. I feel the same about Roger Howarth as Franco. They never should have brought him back as Austin so soon after Franco’s death, when they could have easily written Franco’s “death” as a plot to catch Peter. Instead we got a bland, boring new character who they tried to connect to the Q’s for a minute before that plot fizzled, and then he was killed. Speaking of which, did we ever learn who killed Austin?
Really, they should have brought him on as Austin in the first place. No Todd. No Frodd. Just a doctor with Quartermaine family ties. Might have been a more credible character that way. And of course they also should have never come up with that whole “Pawtuck Mafia” dragonshit. Let alone warped that entire story to make it about Cyrus the Virus.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you wrote that they never should have killed-off Britt. Totally agree. So, I really hope Liesel was able to bring Britt back from the “edge” of death.
they never should have killed-off Britt
Well, they killed her off, per the request of Kelly Thiebaud.
Britt should never have been killed off, but they did it
They did it per the request of Kelly Thiebaud, who did not want the option to return to General Hospital or the role of Britt Westbourne; they were merely following the actor’s request.
Well, they didn’t have to grant her request (and did we get confirmation of that, by the way? At this point, I can’t remember if that came out of her mouth [or Frank’s, etc.] or we all just “understood” that she’d asked for it; I know she wanted to leave, that part I do remember, even if the rest is vague; and come to think of it, even if she did, it could have been that she agreed to say it was her idea, given how much viewer grief they knew they were going to get [and did]–lordy, I’ve become so cynical and suspicious, especially where this show is concerned). Anyway, my point is, no matter whose idea it was or who asked for what–the show did it; they killed Britt, and now KT is coming back, so they’ve got to figure out what to do (actually, I guess they already have, but we don’t know what it is, so it’s still worth debating, I guess).
I’d like whatever it is they do to succeed; she’s a bright spot. Plausibility went out the window ages ago on GH, so at this point, just bring Britt back, concoct whatever barely believable (or more likely, totally unbelievable) story they want, put it on the screen, I’ll howl at the utter ridiculousness of it for two weeks–a month, tops, I promise–and then it will all be forgotten anyway and KT can go back to being Britt, who’s needed and missed. I know the “familiar face, new character” thing can work on soaps, but this show has such a horrendous track record with that, that I’d really hate to see them try it with KT. (Side note: I did exactly this when they brought AJ back to life years ago. I don’t even remember now what the lame-ass story was, but I do remember thinking it was utterly unbelievable, and I totally Did. Not. Care.after a week or two, it was just so good to have Sean Kanan back and watch Leslie Charleson beam as though Monica had been given a new life.)
Once upon a time (and I’ve been watching soaps 50 years this year) I would have thought this kind of thinking was heresy and would be the ruination of soaps, but that battle was lost long ago, and the kind of storytelling probability I think is so important is long gone (though I’m really impressed with Beyond the Gates so far–I’m watching it on Paramount+ and am only three weeks in, but I’m loving it, it’s what soaps used to be, at least so far, to me; Michele Val Jean is a goddess, and Douglas Marland, Bill Bell, Agnes Nixon, Claire Labine, Harding Lemay, and Bridget Dobson have stopped rolling over in their graves, or at least have taken a break from it for a while). So if I’m going to be stuck with “exciting” storylines like the Gio debacle that work (to the extent they do) only because the actors can sell it, fine, at least give me Britt back; one more utterly preposterous return from the dead won’t matter three to six months from now anyway, especially in Port Charles, Land of Ridiculous Resurrections.
(And +1 to all the comments about hoping Kathleen Gati comes back.)
This post is a classic, and I enjoyed reading it. Thank you.
I am SOOO looking forward to her return. I would be delighted if she returns as Britt and without the Huntingtons. As an extra bonus, I’d like Liesel to return with her, having spent the last umpteen months off the canvas nursing Britt back to health.
