(INTERVIEW) GH’s Kristen Vaganos Talks on Burgeoning Romance of Cody and Molly, Her Co-Stars, and the Davis Family Bombshell Waiting to Happen
On General Hospital, Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos) could be the verge of a major romance with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), and is on the verge of major fallout with her sister, her mother, and her father, if it comes to light that Kristina (Kate Mansi) cut the brakes to Ric Lansing’s (Rick Hearst) car when aiming to hurt Ava (Maura West), but instead almost killed Molly’s father.
Couple that, with the fact that now Ric and Ava are blackmailing Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) for the Cassadine fortune, in an effort to keep Kristina out of jail and from Molly ever learning what Kristina did. It’s quite a soapy mess!
Michael Fairman TV caught up with Kristen Vaganos last week on the red carpet at the Daytime at Night – A Benefit for St. Jude concert and fundraiser at the world-famous Troubadour nightclub in West Hollywood, California, where Kristen was on hand to support her GH co-stars including: Josh Kelly who was performing a country number on the stage all for a great cause.

As the real story goes, Vaganos took over the role of Molly in 2023, after both Holiday Mia Kriegel and Brooke Anne Smith did not stick the landing as Ric and Alexis’ daughter. The part was recast after Haley Pullos had to step away from the part following her various legal woes stemming from her DUI car crash in April of 2023. Now, Vaganos is firmly in the part with a storyline that has far reaching tentacles.
So, what does Kristen think of all that lies ahead ready to be exposed to Molly, her GH co-stars, and more? Check out our chat with her below!

At this point, Molly seems to be really believing in Kristina, even after everything the two have been through. Would you say that’s where their sibling relationship is at?
KRISTEN: Yes, she really does believe in Kristina at the moment. I think she needs it, you know what I mean? She’s lost so much that she really needs somebody to hold onto. And obviously, that makes the fall greater if and when it comes, if you really believe in someone again. So, I think that’s the most interesting way to play it. I just think like Molly lost so much. She needs Kristina. Some constant, you know.
How has it been to work with Josh Kelly, and in this burgeoning romantic relationship between Molly and Cody?
KRISTEN: He’s the best. Josh is just like his character in that he is wacky and silly and always up for something. I am a lot like Molly. So our off-screen relationship is a lot like our on-screen relationship; where he’s getting me out of my comfort zone and making it more silly and fun and spontaneous. I think that’s why our scenes play really well, because he’s like that in real life.

Photo: ABC
Do you feel that the powers-that-be are going to invest and take their time with a Molly and Cody pairing, so they become a couple to root for?
KRISTEN: It’s definitely in the works right now. We continue to have more opportunities to work together, and we have a really fun time with our dynamic. I think it’s a really interesting one. They’re polar opposites, and to me that is innately worth investigating because it’s fun and it’s like, “What happens if you put these two together?” I think it’s interesting and I think we’ll see a little bit more of it.
Rick Hearst recently visited the Michael Fairman Channel for a livestream interview and he said you and him just hit it off right away and he loves having you as his on-screen daughter. Did he ever offer any advice on working on daytime or at GH?
KRISTEN: I love Rick. By the time he came on, I had my footing a little bit, which was great and so we could really just slide into play our relationship. He was lovely. When Rick came on, I was so excited by the fact that they were bringing him back because I really felt like it was an investment in me too and in the character. And then when he returned, he was just so amazing. We’ve had a really good time together.

You had a daunting task when you were cast as Molly. Previously, two other actresses had replaced Haley Pullos in the role and neither worked out. Were you like, “Are they going to throw me out the front door, too?” I would think that if I was an actress going into a role which has had multiple recasts, I would be a bit nervous walking into the part. And then, of course, being prepared for the soap audience reaction to another new actress stepping into the role, when, at times, they can be quick to judge. How did you prepare yourself emotionally for what might lie ahead?
KRISTEN: It was really interesting, because you everybody knows that there’s going to be bad reviews and there’s going be people who don’t like you, and that’s just what you sign up for. But, it was really interesting to come into a space where people had such strong opinions that they made casting choices based off of it, and hiring choices based off it. And that was really interesting because, I know I can do a good job, but do I know that I can fit the mold of what the fans already believe in as Molly? That’s a different story. Once I saw how strong their opinions were, I really wanted to do right by them. This role existed before me. It’s more theirs than it is mine. So yes, it was daunting and I wanted to make them feel comfortable.

Photo: ABC
How was it to work with your on-screen mom, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) the first time you met her?
KRISTEN: What I had on my side was that I did a chemistry read with Nancy before I got hired. So, by the time I did get hired, Nancy had sort of given her seal of approval on me. So, that felt good and we sort of clicked right away as well. Kate Mansi and I were actually just at Nancy’s house the other week for dinner with Nancy’s real-life daughter, Kate.
I’ve known Kate Grahn since she was little girl, and she’s become a major talent in her own right.
KRISTEN: Kate Grahn is such a sweetheart. We all do Pilates together. We’re truly like a happy family. It’s kind of amazing.

In the story of the Davis girls, Kristina’s the daughter that always gets the most attention from Alexis, as she is the one emotionally on the edge most of the time, while Molly is the thinker and the more level-headed of the two. Molly truly feels she comes second, correct?
KRISTEN: It’s exhausting when someone else is the problem child. They get all the attention and you’re expected to just have it together and save the day, and put it aside and exhale and swallow your pride and all that. So, Molly’s got a tough job.
One of the things you play so believably is Molly as the assistant district attorney. She is organized, and all, “let’s get down to business.”
KRISTEN: Thank you. I know that they (the powers-that-be) also wanted to age Molly up. They took the new casting opportunity to make her feel more mature. So, that was part of my task. I have actually always been much more mature for my age, people always say that about me. I think it’s a good element for the character to have. But yes, I love her professionalism.

When this secret comes out that Kristina cut the brakes to Ric’s car, and that Ric and Ava have been blackmailing Alexis for the Cassadine fortune to keep Kristina out of jail, could you see Molly ever forgiving her mother or sister?
KRISTEN: It’s a good question. I don’t know if and how that is going to unravel. I haven’t even seen a script. I don’t even know anything that you don’t know on this topic. I feel for Molly in the sense of like, if she loses Kristina and Alexis then what does this poor girl have left? I think it could be really interesting to see Molly go on a real rampage. She’s never really done that. I would love to see her just like … lose it.
Now, let us know, are you rooting for Molly and Cody to fall madly in love? Do you hope Kristen gets her wish and Molly learns the truth of the deception from her sister, mother and father of Kristina cutting the brakes to Ric’s car and almost killing him and the blackmailed that ensued all to not have her sister face jail time? Share your thoughts in the comment section. And in case you missed it, check out our latest interview with Kristen’s on-screen father, Rick Hearst below, where he had many flattering remarks to share on his latest on-screen daughter.
Love the new hair cut and style Cody has. It brings back memories of Cutter Wentworth.
Bring Back Dex and get rid of Molly!
There’s some space in Ferncliff
Ha ha ha ha!!!
Jesus Christ, shut up already!
Vaganos is a find! Captures the original essence of Molly and adds some sophistication.
Yes. I never cared for Molly until she took over the role.
She has turned out to be my favorite Molly. Haley seems too young to play all this heavy material. Kristen and Ric look so much alike-totally believable as father and daughter. I cannot wait for Molly & Cody’s relationship to get going! They are so much fun together. Great new couple. Hurry up!

GH and DAYS Alum Brandon Barash and Wife Isabella Welcome Son ‘Sebastian’ Into the World
Congratulations are in order for General Hospital and Days of Our Lives favorite Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny and ex-Stefan/Jake, respectively) and his wife, Isabella Devoto Barash, who welcomed their newborn son, Sebastian Antonio Barash back on June 5.
For the first time his Sebastian’s birth the couple is posting and beaming with pride at the new addition to the family. This is Brandon and Isabella’s second child and second son together following the birth of Joaquin Lee Barash back in September of 2023. In his heartfelt post on Instagram accompanied by several photos of his growing family, Brandon expressed, “The heart is indeed a muscle, and boy, can it stretch. We welcomed our newest addition Sebastian Antonio Barash (Antonio after Isa’s dad) on 6.5.26. Lil Seba, I vow to love you with undying ferocity and without condition. As for our new family of five, we have all already evolved for the better as we rise like the lotus through the muck of sleepless nights, soul-tingling baby whimpers, and yes, poopy diapers. These babies teach us a clinic on love…all we need to do is saddle up, be still, and take em in. Isabella Barash, you’re my hero. Thank you for the gift of your love. House is full, hearts fuller.”

BRANDON’S BUDDIES CONGRATULATE HIM ON WELCOMING NEW SON
Several of Brandon’s former co-stars have already jumped in the commenting thread including, Rob Scott Wilson (Alex, DAYS) “Congrats my brotha!!,” Dan Feuerriegel (EJ, DAYD) and Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS), with whom Brandon appears with in the Day Players Band and more.
Back in April of this year, Brandon was granted an emergency restraining order against his ex-wife, Kirsten Storms claiming that the GH favorite was exhibiting concerning behavior and he feared for the well-being of their daughter, Harper. They each now live separate lives in Tennessee.
We send our well-wishes to Brandon, Isabella and their new son, Sebastian as they build their burgeoning family unit.

‘General Hospital’s’ Controversial Luke and Laura Rape Episode: Writer Sheri Anderson Reveals Behind the Scenes Decisions and Admits ‘I Was Wrong’ to Defend It (Exclusive)
It’s one of the most controversial storylines in soap opera history, when Luke (the late Anthony Geary) raped Laura (Genie Francis) back in an episode that aired in 1979. In the story, one fateful night while believing his latest assignment for the mob would get him killed, Luke drank heavily, and confessed his love to Laura. She had been working at the disco at the time and tried to comfort him.
Luke said, “I’m not going to die without holding you in my arms just one time. Dance with me.” As Herb Alpert’s “Rise,” played in the background, Laura tried to leave as she was getting fearful of Luke. The camera panned away as Luke forced himself on her and Laura screamed, “No!” The aftermath also became a huge problem for the series years later. GH tried to pass it off as a seduction, while viewer outcry, and as the world evolved over the decades called it then and now what it was, “rape.”
The script writer for that episode was prolific soap opera writer and three-time Emmy winner, Sheri Anderson. The popular scribe is best-known for her work on Days of Our Lives and also her tenure as its co-head writer, but she also spent a few years at General Hospital smack dab in the late 70s and early 80s, under then legendary executive producer, Gloria Monty.

During her visit last week to the Michael Fairman Channel, where Anderson opened up about a specific moments throughout her storied writing career, as well as the state of the soaps now in our culture, she recalled the events that transpired before and after that led to her scripting the infamous rape episode on GH.
ABC NETWORK EXEC DECIDES LUKE SHOULD RAPE LAURA
Sheri began, “What happened was Pat Falken Smith (then head writer, GH) came in from a meeting and she was stoned-faced, and we said, ‘What’s going on?’ She said Jackie Smith, who was head of the network, wants Luke to rape Laura and we were like, ‘What? We can’t do that!” She said that’s what we were going to so, because we were exploring ‘date rape’ at the time.”
“So, on General Hospital, or any show that I’ve been involved with, we would get as much research as we could on the subject, especially when I was writing,” explained Anderson. “I would always send the script to a therapist and say, ‘is this accurate? Is this emotionally correct?'”
Anderson shared from the writers viewpoint what the story was about at that time: “Luke was from the wrong side of the tracks. He was trying to prove himself to the mob and they said to prove it, you have to go kill a senator Mitch Williams. Luke couldn’t go through with it, which meant he was a dead man. He went back to the Campus Disco which he owned and Laura was there. She was waiting for her husband (Scotty Baldwin). So, when Laura was trying to comfort Luke, things started to get out of control.”
THE COINED “SEDUCTION”
“The script which I wrote was 110 pages, which was typical at the time. Gloria Monty, who was a brilliant executive producer and director who changed daytime, was the director of that episode,” explained Anderson on the writing for the soap back in the late 70s. “They probably cut 30 pages of material, because she was so intent on the rape and making it as brutal as she could. So, we were just going forward and thinking, ‘Oh, my God! That was really awful.'”
Over decades, the moment was called as aforementioned, “a seduction,” a “date rape,” and then as GH viewers recalled, it was in 1998 that Luke admitted to his son Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) that he actually raped his mother, Laura.

ANDERSON COULD NO LONGER DEFEND THE STORY POINT
It is not lost on Anderson, how GH at the time, tried to pass off the on-screen incident, “In retrospect, and I believe Michelle Val Jean (creator, head-writer, executive producer of Beyond the Gates) once said that it upset her, that we would say it was really a ‘seduction’ and all of those things, because it was not. It was rape, and (back then) I would try to, in a sense, defend it, and frankly, I was wrong,” revealed Sheri.
“I wrote the rape episode and I actually wrote the episode after it and we had Emily McLaughlin who played nurse Jessie Brewer who came to me later and said, ‘thank you.’ Because she said, ‘I wrote the aftermath of it so poignantly for her and Genie,’ recalled Sheri. “Then, we had Irene Kassorla, the real-life therapist come in, and on the show do group therapy sessions. So, it was really fascinating for me I thought that we were doing it extremely well, and I still think we did it extremely well. But, yes, it was rape, and it was wrong.”

GLORIA MONTY SWORE SHE WOULD NEVER MARRY LUKE AND LAURA
In an ironic twist, when Pat Falken Smith and Sheri left General Hospital to return to Days of Our Lives, suddenly Luke and Laura were getting married, after Gloria Monty swore she would never let them tie the knot. As soap fans know, the wedding remains the most-watched episode in soap opera in history with over 30 million people tuning-in on November 16 and 17 of 1981.
“People talk about that story thinking Luke raped Laura, and then they got married. No! Luke raped Laura, but it destroyed their lives with the secrets that they carried. Laura would not tell anybody that Luke was the one who raped her, and their lives were altered in so many ways. It took a long time to bring them back as a couple because they had such chemistry personally, so it was just the obvious way to go,” explained Anderson of the writers mindset at the time. “Gloria Monty said to us, ‘We’ll never marry them.’ Then, when as a writing team we left and went to Days of Our Lives, she married them two months later.”
You can catch our full informative chat with Sheri Anderson below.
So, what did you think about what really went on behind the scenes at General Hospital when the decision came down to have Luke rape Laura in the controversial scenes? Did you appreciate the insight provided by Sheri? Is it still one of the more troubling plot points in the storied history of Luke and Laura to you? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Will Chase EVER get a grip and realize Willow is a manipulative woman capable of heinous crimes?
Next, Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) comes loaded for bear to Carly’s (Laura Wright) along with two men from the WSB. He tells her that.“We have reason to believe that Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) is on the premises.” Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) is also there at the time and the two could not look more nervous or suspicious if they tried.
