GENERAL HOSPITAL: Meet Nurse Amy, and Aaron: What Were Your First Impressons Of The New Characters?

Courtesy/ABC
This week on ABC’s General Hospital, viewers were introduced to two new younger set characters.
The first was nurse Amy Driscoll played by Risa Dorken, and the second was Aaron played by John DeLuca, who comes on to the scene as a date for Kristina, but who seems to have some fascination with Sonny Corinthos and his “coffee’!
On Wednesday’s episode, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) comes upon new nurse Amy Driscoll at GH, and asks her if she knows where Nathan (Ryan Paevey) is as she has a clean shirt for him. Amy tells her he is in the locker-room, but with a bit of sting to her comments. Later, when Griffin (Matt Cohen) appears the nurses station, Amy seems quite smitten with him and informs him of the patient that OD’d and then rambles on about Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Julian (William deVry) being taken to the PCPD because of it, which Sam (Kelly Monaco) overhears! Sam next takes it upon herself to stop the nurse Amy from gossisping (signaling the throwback to nurse Amy Vining played for years by the late Shell Kepler), and Amy runs off! Still later, Franco (Roger Howarth) comes to GH and runs into Amy to go over his work schedule. She comments in a flirtatious way that Franco fills out his blue shirt very nicely. Amy drops a bomb on Franco, and reveals that Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) cancelled little Jake’s art therapy session with him, so there is a change to his schedule. Franco’s clearly rattled.

On Thursday’s episode, viewers got a major glimpse at Aaron, who is at the Corinthos Coffee house office with his date Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth).  He looks around Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) office and seems very intrigued and impressed. After Kristina introduces Aaron to Sonny, the young man says he is culinary school and a total foodie, and he has been obsessed with Sonny’s coffee and restaurant.
Aaron asks to look around the place, and exits leaving Sonny and Kristina to talk abuot him where Sonny says he approves of the guy.  But is this Aaron even on the up and up? Is he a son of a mobster in his own right? What is the deal?
What were your first impressions of Risa Dorken and Amy, and John DeLuca as Aaron? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, but in case you missed it take a look at Amy’s first scene with Griffin after the jump!
Aaron-son of Paul?…..Amy-a Cassidine and Laura’s daughter?…just harmless guesses-the characters have possibilities and im ok with them but im going to vote for Donald Trump if he builds a brick wall around Port Charles to prevent future newbies from coming in-lol
Nice to see them pay tribute to the original Amy in a way. Original Amy was a ditzy busy body who never thought before she spoke, and hurt a lot of peoples’ feelings in the process. This Amy appears to be a calculated busy body with a stinger, at least where Maxie is concerned.
Though GH DOES have too many characters on the canvas, as many here point out, my first impression of the new Amy was instant LIKE. She seemed warm and maybe naive–not mean. Now also give her a tender, romantic love story.
My immediate impression of Aaron–not so much. Sorry to say, he did not make a great first impression–just middling–one who might get lost in the already-crowded canvas. PS I kept looking for Laura on that crowded canvas–but WHERE IS LAURA?
Now, THERE”s the person that needs a great storyline. How come all the other ladies in her age bracket 9and older) have one and she doesn’t? Let’s see: there are Finola, Laura W., Alexis, Tracy, et al.–but Genie Francis is let to one or two brief appearances weekly. A crying shame, a travesty. Genie, you will always stand out on MY canvas–lol.
Yes-what happened to Laura and her little mystery…last i seen her she was talking to Kevin Collins…Aaron-he is the lesser of the two-thought he was going to kiss Sonny the way he was going on there sounding so enamored with Sonny and his business-lol…he instantly reminded me of Dillion-its why i thought he was Paul’s son!!!
Cassidines might have something to do with this Amy-maybe when Laura was institutionalized Laura had the baby from Stravos, and in her state she never knew about this daughter???
Really can’t stand this nurse . I am really really hoping she is the one killing patients and gets caught soon so she is off the show. I usually mute my tv when she comes on I don’t think she has a warm bone in her body. She is just a nosy b___h that wants to cause trouble. Maybe it’s the actress playing the part I don’t like.
VERY cleaver, Jim.
I think a good gossip is always needed on a soap so I welcome the new character. Soap Gossips have a way of reviewing the stories for us viewers–they’re kind of a dumbed down Shakespearean chorus.
However, WHY did they have to name her Amy? That is just wrong for so many reasons.
I might be ok naming her Amy if she is somehow connected to Laura/original Amy….i remember when AW had John Randolph and his son Micheal who were part of the core Mathews family during the 60s to late 70s…by the 1980s the Randolphs were gone but the show introduced two new characters named John and Micheal who were brothers and i thought with so many names out there why use the same names of major characters who were part of the show for many years and whose memories are still fresh in one’s head…Amy is like that-why not Joanna or Pam but if she is connected to Laura and her sister than im fine with that.
M-m-m-m. I wonder also, Harry. Do you think they are going to say she is the “daughter” of Amy? Someone else speculated that she is Laura’s daughter. I say “huh?” to both of those suggestions. Amy didn’t have any children, and we don’t know of any other Laura daughter except Lulu. But knowing those writers at GH, ANYTHING is possible (sigh!), don’t you think?
I like the way you think, jimh! Let’s “Make Port Charles Great Again!”
President trump would be so proud!
Hey, Timmmmbo! Maybe “The Trumpster” will give a stump speech in Port Charles….that would be yuuuuge!!!! LOL….
I like both of the actors but I think that there are way to many characters on the canvas as there is. I’m hoping that these new ones will become involved in storylines quick and actually be able to help push the story forward. If they don’t, they’re not needed. I think that Griffin is actually Claudette and is transgendered. He’s just acting way to squirley around Nathan.
Love the Claudette idea!!! Agree @ too many characters on this show! Dislike obnoxious Amy already! Id fire her for what she said to Maxie!!
That was my idea…i said that jokingly about Griffen being Claudette-GIVE ME THE CREDIT NOW-lol…ok, i did mention it several posts ago and seeing others think the same so maybe he was a she!!!
lol Jim!!! Sorry, never saw your post but I love the idea! Something is up with Griffin?? Not sure I like the character. He’s pretty bland so being Claudette would be interesting!
Sorry I never saw your post but I’m sure that many of us can connect the dots. 🙂
I said that about Griffen several postings ago…lol
Jimh…not into Griffin being Claudette. Now about his twin?
ie: Griffin
yeah…. I’m starting to think with you as well, plus many others
that locker room scene with Nathan… was a bit out their
Griffin dude… relax
then again… ??? is he lying about being Dukes “son” or was Claudette Dukes daughter…
so
I don’t think he is lying about being Duke’s child because everyone has said how much he looks like Duke– I’m sure they connect the dots on how Nathan’s Claudette and Duke’s son are one and the same person
I think that too– the way he looks at Nathan and his mannerism, it screams I used to be Claudette–if he isn’t I will really be disappointed because I am looking forward to this transgender story.
Jean and Shelly don’t write for gay couple Brad and Lucas so I really can’t see them doing a transgender story. Since Griffin is always going on and on about forgiveness, I’m guessing he was a former priest who had an affair with Claudette and was shot by Nathan in a jealous rage.
alan-thought same thing. As a priest, HE couldn’t give her the green card wedding she needed & if Nathan spotted them together from a distance & shot, then ran- he wouldn’t recognize him, but Grif would know who Nathan is.
griffin as a transgender claudette, what a horrible idea, i will say you guys have quite the imagination but thats all .
Yet when it happens just remember to come back and tap us on the back for picking up on it.
this isn’t passions!!!
No, it it was Passions, Claudette would have been a witch and Griffin would have been her little doll boy that came to life in her dying breath.
Great minds think alike…and its great to hear when others have the same ideas about characters and plots!!!
I think Griffin is the man that Claudette cheated with when she was married to Nathan. Griffin being a priest makes it even more of a scandal.
That’s a good one Mary. You could be right. But who shot him? Maybe Nathan? Or is that what caused him to become a priest?
Just more dumb mistakes by GH. We don’t need Amy. Give her airtime to characters we know & care about-Elizabeth,Epiphany,Felix.
We also don’t need Aaron. GH’s cast is beyond bloated and characters we’re invested in disappear for days/weeks. Brucas are about to be married yet they get no story or airtime. How do you invest when they’re only on once a month.
GH needs to trim its cast. Get rid of Hayden (instead of bringing family on for her), get rid of Nina, KiKi, Paul, Olivia,Julian,etc..
Give airtime and story to people we know & love.
Yes, “airtime and story to people we know and love.”
I liked both of the characters. Thought the actors were great for their roles. Feel like the ball needs to drop quickly on Christina’s boyfriend so we can learn his real agenda and who he is. Not really sure we need the new nurse.
Aaron and Amy are instantly “likeable”
Aaron… how can they make them so cute… he throws me a little bit… as he looks like the spitting image of a younger Tom Cruise
inasmuch as I’ve liked Kristina “exploring” her feelings… I think that GH needs to capitalize on GOOD couples… and these two have it in spades
plus… I like that he’s in culinary school… total foody
Amy: she caught me right away as well… she doesn’t seem in the least apologetic about “her” mannerisms… nurses’ station wherewithal (gossip). I’m in
THESE TWO HAVE CHARACTER
I liked Amy telling Maxie that “We don’t do voice transplants here.”
Maxie does indeed have a very annoying voice as does Lulu. They utilize what linguists call “vocal fry.”
You know what drives me far more crazy than “the fry,” Harry? Upspeak….it is so moronic, despite the fact that people seem to think it gives them some sort of smartly superior tone. And when guys do it, it’s even worse than listening to those insipid females feigning their pseudo-intellectual affectations! I just want to stifle all of them when everything they say sounds like a freaking question!
I wander if Amy studied Amy because she is channeling Nurse Vining! Anyway, good to see a normal actress get hired that represents the look of a real hospital employee! [Shes cute but probably will annoy me!]
Aaron is Tom Cruise lite! He is young, good looking and could turn out to be a good actor. We’ll see. I do hope he is connected to someone already on the canvas. I do think Kristina should have dated someone a little older. Its really not even the age factor, Aaron just looks so young! Thats a problem over at Y&R with Noah. I like his portrayer but the stories he is involved in, he looks too young to be included. I could see him at the coffee shop and not working at Newman Enterprises! My guess is Aaron will work at Sonny’s restaurant or coffee house so he can either flirt with the bosses daughter or be undercover for whomever?
Like the culinary thing with Aaron, just hope ABC doesn’t try to connect it with The Chew the way they cross promote a lot of their other shows and Disney. But I can’t help but feel there’s more to him than just liking to cook.
Am I the only one who thinks Aaron looks like very much like Michael Quartermaine-Corinthos?
Totally & a little bit of Tom Cruise with the smile. I like him, not Amy.
I can see the similarity now that you mentioned it Marie. If they had the same color hair and style they’d really REALLY be dopplegangers!!
AS much as I liked these two characters, it bothers me twice as much that they were even introduced when the cast is so bloated. Enough, already!
Yes, this new Amy echoes Amy Vining. I loved Shell Kepler and the character she created. Was saddened when powers that be just swept the character under the rug. Miss Kepler provided some humor and emotion, and plenty of devices to upend or to turn stories because of her gossip and desire to be among the inner circle. And that romance she had with the boxer sticks with me. Bless you in heaven, Shell Kepler.
Aaron is probably a spy for another crime family as he was just too interested in Sonny. Amy is going to be the busy body agitator around GH who will be snitching on everybody.
I don’ t mind the introduction of new characters but not at the expense of the main reasons I watch GH. I did think that Amy and Maxie had a good mix together. They just bounced off of each other’s energy. As for Aaron, umm, rather pointless to bring him in especially with Kristina questioning her own sexuality. We know her history with men so tossing another one in the mix is not necessary. If they are going to explore her fluidity regarding her sexuality then explore it with the attraction to women. I am not saying we should have lesbian bars popping up all over Port Charles but be real about the exploration instead of just hinting and bobbing and weaving around it. I will not say that seeing Nathan and Griffin in various states of undress was not interesting because it was almost causing my television to smoke. I say bring them both on more but my one question is: how do these doctor locker rooms remain unisex? I mean men and women in various states of undress with no privacy?? I am not offended I am just curious if I should move to upstate New York and do some exploring myself. I love GH. I trust that they will explain all in due time.
I appreciate your post.. a while back ago… on the actor… Ryan Paevey (Nathan)
I get caught off “guard” if you will… on his looks… and physique.. I will not lie
damned if you do and damned if you “don’t”
call him “wooden” and not a strong act
but his presence… is a let
for example… “posts”
I am struck… kid you not… how lovely enchanted I am w/ @Rebecca Herbst
beauty behold
OK… she can act… add smolder
any way…
ie: Dr. Griffin
it’s going to be interesting… what the writers REEL
they struck lightening.. without a story out of the starting gate
is he a “pawn” to ignite Anna
is he a “pawn” to ignite Nathan
is his being Duke Son…
just saying… I hope the writers… whether he’s … ( i’m struck by this… is he transgendered) which… by any stretch is a magnanimous being
I look at him.. and am struck… (again) by beauty
PLUS… he can act
so… it’s a worthwhile prospect to – pronto – give “Griffin” a story
ie: about …. Aaron and Amy
it’s just a bolt of lightening… and NEW imagination trigger… to have new characters strike and “lead” if you will
because no matter how much you prop…
no matter how much you want…
for the “show” to be – led – by:
Sonny and Carly
Jason and Sam
Julian and Alexis
yikes… their own….. relationship… with each other… is NOT interesting enough… so the writers … continue to prop their offspring.. their ??? connections to the canvas… for what?
who cares… about Sonny and his mob
who cares … about Jason… its a little too late.. if they don’t connect him to “Q”
who cares… about Alexis morals and virtue…
just saying… had to explain.. how “distracting” it is from Frank Valentini intent.. that the audience is forced to “watch” the three couples
Aaron and Amy
LOL… I had to laugh… perhaps the writers really do have a sense of humor… and it’s my own done in… that I get intense… when Jason and Sam catch “Franco” that easily in the park… “voyeur”
please do not make it that dumb down… that Jason and Sam are that easily “caught” up in the writers story… for Jason and Franco
argh! I can’t stand this… I love Roger Howarth… ENOUGH of Nina.. angered walks out… talks to either Nathan or Julian and backpedals back to Franco
it’s OVER!
so their you have it…
I hope that this Claudette reveal… is what the fans… majority imagine… that a transgender is with
I walk in my hometown… and see plenty of transgender… am torn.. when bullying plus violence wreaks havoc
enough! yikes…they are REAL
my wish
Roger Howarth “Franco” moves… it’s tiring for all the characters to unleash damnation
of the two shows.. I watch
GH is in front
argh! I’m in love again… Daniel Cosgrove is back in Salem !!!! YES
Days of OUR Lives… Aiden…. rescue and OK damn me… rescue your son Chase
I don’t like the idea of teasing a lesbian story then sending Kristina back to guys. So I agree that I’m not crazy about bringing Aaron on.
I agree, too many stories going on,you get lost.New guy much too nice, cute but who cares.Nurse kind of looks like Maxie.I for one hopes that Ashley Jones is back after maternity. The chemistry and acting with her and Kristina was wonderful!Bored with Dante and Lulu.Too many men! Can’t keep track.Kill off Carlos
I like the Aaron character, seems like he has possibilities for a decent story line, looking forward to see what they have planned.
The Amy character not so much. It felt like they were trying to make her the new “Amy Vining” who was known for a long time in the 80s as the GH nurse who always spread gossip.
I don’t have any issue with these new characters as long as there is a real plan to integrate them into the story. If Amy is just going to pop up now and then to be a busy body — to be like a modern version of a Greek chorus– no thanks. If she has a real connection to the canvas yet to be reveal, if her character is going to be fleshed out and have a real impact – great. And the same with Aaron— the tendency on GH is introduce new characters but then never do anything with them– so I hope they don’t suffer the same fate as the chick Morgan cheated with, or Felix’s sister, or etc……
Amy reminds of my Amy Vining who I absolutely looooved. I always wished they would bring Amy Vining back. This “new” Amy is as good as it gets and it’s goooood. Nice job GH. Thanks for adding humor to the “hospital” like in the 80’s. Hope she sticks around.
That is who she is supposed to be . They are copying characters. I hate the New Amy and do not find her amusing in any way. Amy V. was a beloved character played by Shell Kepler. Only will there ever be one Amy. If they wanted to add a gossip, should have changed the name.
Can do without Amy, rather see Ephifany more. Like Aaron the actor is likeable and attractive. A great addition to the show which has the best collection of hunks on TV. Ryan Paevey,Matt Cohen,Chad Duell,Ryan Carnes,Billy Miller, now John DeLuca, what a group!
As long she is not coupled, I’m ok with it..
No big deal ..
i’m so sick of reading how bloaded the GH cast is, maybe people should get a list of the contract players and recurring players, and and then maybe just stop trying to figure out who should get airtime vs who shouldn’t. in my opinion if your under contract then you should be on air more and or at least be a part of a major storyline, if your recurring character then your their to fill up air time, or enhance the storyline of the contract players. so fyi, lucas and brad are not contract players, they shouldn’t have ‘their own storyline”. so as for aaron and amy now, they fit perfectly as recurring characters, i’m not expecting them to have “their own storyline” Also at one point the vets were newbies, and i’m sure back then, viewer felt the same about them “taking over the show” but i love the newbies, like hayden nate, nina, and kiki, plus what is the freaing timeline for a character to no longer be a newbie?
I am having great difficulty understanding your post, Aria, but I think what you are trying to say is that you are tired of reading viewers’ complaints about a bloated cast. While I like Amy (despite the unfortunate choice of names) and think her character is actually needed, I maintain that there is an art to introducing new characters to the canvas. For the last five years or so, GH has failed in that endeavor.
New characters need to have an introduction and they need to be slowly integrated into the fabric of the fictional landscape which included having connections to core families and/or veteran characters. Nina has been an epic fail, not just due to the actresses’s propensity to chew up all the scenery, but because she was not tied to any core characters. Indeed, Nina was only tied to other new characters and and instant families whom we did not know. And there was a sense of a fast food approach to her family, and her romance with Franco which led to collective viewer apathy thereby leading to poor ratings. The same holds true for Sabrina, Ava, Franco, Jordan and so many other characters.
Viewers are not adverse to new characters but what they are adverse to is is a rapid and copious addition of new characters who are not tied to core families and core characters.
Harry, you say it SO well–and I agree with you 100%.
VERY aptly put, Harry! I’ve said as much so on numerous occasions, as well. Since the time that Britt and your not-so-beloved Dr. O. hit the GH scene, there has been precious little new character development and backstory involved in any introductions…they’ve all been slapdash to totally non-existent, and as far as I’m concerned, there’s been absolutely no impetus to accept or be ingratiated to any of these newbies….none has possessed either the charisma or interest to grab the viewer. The only glimmer of hope I have seen as of late is Griffin….he’s the first character that has intrigued me in an age. The same may be able to be said for Finn depending upon how his scenario plays out, although it’s early days to reach a verdict based upon what we’ve seen thus far…..I can roll with the lizard gimmick, as long as Hamilton’s sphere starts expanding past the clingy, towel-bearing Carly.
New characters work cheaper and if they hit it off FBI makes more money! I try to point out to some fans, most of our beloved characters started off being new!
Not FBI. Fv frank valenti
I think most people wouldn’t feel like the cast was bloated if the writers were creating compelling, interwoven storylines for the vets and then wove the recurring characters in to enhance the plot. Unfortunately, there really don’t seem to be any stories on the canvas other than the current Carlos mess so if you’re not a fan of mob stories you’re out of luck. Everything else is more of a character description than an actual story: Nathan has an ex-wife; Christina might be gay; Morgan is bi-polar; Hayden’s dad ran an off-camera Ponzi scheme; Finn gives himself mysterious injections; Jordan likes Andre; Laura is trying to solve a vague mystery. Sure, they COULD be stories but the writers only touch on them from time to time and that creates a hodge-podge feeling of randomness to any continuity the writers are trying to establish.
New characters are much more accepted when they are enhancing well written stories that intersect and connect the characters viewers already love. It also helps when the newbies are fully developed instead of stereotypes (the gossipy nurse, the foodie) because as the veteran characters grow to know and accept the newbies so do viewers. Another problem with the GH newbies is they never feel like there is a pre planned arc for the character; they always feel like they are being dropped in and the writers are waiting to see if they are interested in doing anything with them (Darby, anyone?).
Harry and Alan you both express better what I was trying to say, I feel every time fans complain about the same thing still you two made valid points why . I do feel a lot of the characters have great potential but aren’t going anywhere because none really have a storyline. Even though I’m so done with the Carlos charater at least he keeps Anna in a storyline. I GH is way better then the other 3 soaps no matter how hard I try I can’t get into them so for now in my opinion GH is way better even though they have an inflated cast and no ” real” storyline playing out, ( Laura, best example ). As for the two new characters I like them both, I didn’t feel they were taking anything away from anybody else.
We didn’t need theses characters, but I don’t trust Aaron.
The second Aaron started sucking up to Sonny and gushing over his coffee and his restaurant I lost any interest in the character.
Amy could have potential but based on the character development of other Jean and Shelly creations such as Darby, Andre, and Curtis I don’t hold out much hope.
Of course, the first thing I think every time I see a new character is “why am I watching a stranger when Genie Francis is on contract…?”
Your last sentence says it all as far as I am concerned, Alan!
You are so right!
AMEN!!!
I haven’t given Aaron much thought but hearing Amy speak to Maxie I immediately thought of Amy Vining. Thinking maybe she’s a daughter or maybe a niece or something. I agree on too many characters but I like Amy, so far
I do like both characters—their stories ought to be interesting.
GH just won an Emmy, so they are going to take that.as a pat on the back to continue in the same direction with all sls.
Jason – whose memory recovery never takes him back to being a Quartermaine, only a Morgan – will reunite with Sonny and Carly and his thuggish ways. We saw hints of that with his “buddy” talk with Sonny. That’s what they used to do. Are they afraid to have Kristina be gay?! Reveal the Griffen and Nathan connection already! And Finn with the biga** needle. Sup with that?! They take so long to reveal stupid sls. They build them up and build them up and then it lets you down. Laura and Kevin would be a good match. Anna and Kevin would be a good match. Too many characters that we just haven’t invested in, nor do we care too. Who keeps approving the additional characters. Just write for the ones you have. GH is on the brink of my saying bye-bye-bye!!!
I don’t like amy’s attitude. I’m waiting for someone to slap her. My husband walked in the room & thought she was Maxie, lol! Idk about Aaron. He’s a little too excited about coffee. When he was off exploring the restaurant I was like oh no, he’s planting bugs for the cops or another mobster! Idk if I want Christina with him. Btw when will we see Ethan again?
Good assessment there. Great point , you’d think Paranoid Sonny would follow Aaron out to the restaurant and wouldn’t let him walk freely around the place. I agree, SLAP her and then slap her again. Ethan should return.
Amy would get fired if it were a real hospital. There are laws now. Of course things get talked about in a real hospital, bot not aloud. She reminds me of Maxie. If I keep watching, hope she’s not there long…this is only about the character. ABC still should have cancelled GH and kept OLTL!! I started watching GH again after several years because of some of the cast from OLTL. Glad Michael Easton is back, but wish he were McBain.
I think she sounds like and looks a bit like Maxi.
I cannot stand the “New Amy” and her portrayal of a beloved character played by Shell Kepler. She is mean, nosy and I do not find her funny at all. BTW she is not new to the hospital, she is being portrayed as always been at GH. Remember her interaction with Monica and the way she was talking about her family behind her back? So forget the idea that she is related to Laura etc.
Not sure about Kristina’s new friend Aaron, but kinda like the new Amy character. She reminds me of the Amy Vinings character grew up with. Have her tone down the loudness, needs to be a bit softer, even if gossiping is frowned upon at work need it to be more like standing around the water cooler or general conversation like on Grey’s Anatomy and less like she’s the announcer bring those that joined the show already in progress up to speed. Love being able to catch up on episodes on the ABC app as it now airs at 2pm when still at work. Keep up the Good work GH.
Amy is a good, dingy nurse. We haven’t had a busy body for a while. I think she may be the one murdering patients.
Aaron is too wishy- washy. Kristina needs a real man to turn her on, or commit to being gay. She has been quite a disappointment.!

‘General Hospital’s’ Amanda Setton Talks Her Reaction, Scenes, and Co-Stars After Becoming a Daytime Emmy Nominee for the First Time (Exclusive)

When the nominations were announced for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this week, General Hospital fans were thrilled to see Amanda Setton’s name as one of this year’s Outstanding Supporting Actress nominees.
It marks the first time in her career that she has ever been nominated. Setton has played Brook Lynn Quartermaine since 2019. Soap viewers first saw her in the role of Kimberly Andrews on One Life to Live during her run from 2009-2011.
Amanda received her Daytime Emmy nomination for her emotional turn as Brook Lynn learned she had been lied to by her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) for years, after giving up her baby for adoption as a teen. Little did she know she had a secret son living with her this whole time at the Quartermaine mansion in Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza).

During an exclusive conversation live on Tuesday night, July 14, during the Michael Fairman Channel’s annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special, she discussed her reaction to the news, her nominated reel and her GH co-stars.
GOING FOR EMMY GOLD
Setton explained how she found out she was a Emmy nominee! “Frank Valentini called me, our boss. It was such a beautiful moving moment. I’ve known Frank for 20 years and to share this with him, I’m indebted to him on a lot of levels. I was in the car with my husband. We were going for a hike. We got away for just a couple days, just the two of us. It was early in the morning and to share that moment with Frank, to share that moment with my husband, it was the best. We cried and I’m just so grateful.”
The Supporting Actress nominee shared what scenes she submitted: “My reel was obviously about the Gio storyline. It started with the scenes with Lulu (Alexa Havins) and shout out to Alexa! She’s the best. It’s when I first find out that she knows and that I had boy. Then, begging her not to tell Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and just to leave it alone, then into the scenes with Rena Sofer, shout out to her! She is the best. I love her. I spoke to her today. She deserved to also be nominated. They are the scenes right after I find out at the Nurses’ Ball, and right after Brooklyn finds out that Gio is her son, not her cousin. Then my reel ended with the scene with Gio in the kitchen when Brook Lynn’s first sees him after the Nurses’ Ball and she says, ‘We can work this out,’ and he’s like, ‘No, we can’t,” and he walks away. It was an amazing story and kudos to the writers.”

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCENES
It is always important in the Emmy game to put together a submission, so that someone who doesn’t watch the show day to day, can grasp the story of what’s happening to your character. Setton explained how she went about assembling the choices for her scenes. “Between Michelle Henry (producer, GH) and Frank, they said, ‘You need to tell the story. Find the scenes that tell the story.” Once I did it was clear to all of us, the story has been told,” shared Amanda.
“Anyone who’s watching this reel can get a feel for the intensity of the story. I think after even the first scene where you’re just like, ‘Wait a minute! This girl had a baby? She didn’t know if it was a boy or girl?’ Now this nemesis of her wants to … ‘What’s happening? What’s going on? And then the mom knew the story? ‘ So by the end, your heart’s just broken for this girl.”
Initially, Amanda like the viewers were trying to figure out how GH would make sense of the story, where suddenly years later we find out Brook Lynn got pregnant at summer camp by Dante! Setton said, “Once they (the writers) started building it out and you saw all the different relationships playing out between her and her mother, her and Dante, her and Lulu, her and Gio, her and her husband Chase (Josh Swickard), even Tracy (Jane Elliot), and then the fallout of all of it, it just touched so many characters on the canvas. I think it was like a huge juicy burger for the fans to just take a big bite.”

AMANDA SETTON TALKS ON HER TV SON GIOVANNI MAZZA
In addition to Amanda, both Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner (Emma) landed their first ever nominations in the Emerging Talent category. Setton shared how she and Mazza have developed such a close bond.
“Gio and I are super close. Right from the start, we just hit it off. He is such a delight. He’s so hardworking. He’s such an eager learner. He’s always looking to be better. He always wants to grow. That’s a huge testament to his work ethic,” explains Amanda. “He’s an amazing person, and over the last couple of years, we’ve had many deep conversations about work, about life, perspective, gratitude, values, a lot of different deep things. I could not be more thrilled for Gio and this moment for him. It is well deserved. He has worked so hard for it. I really hope he wins. Although, I also love Braedyn!”
One of the most unforgettable moments of 2025 in the soaps is when Gio takes to the Nurses’ Ball stage after overhearing Lulu and Lois talk that he is the biological son of Brook Lynn and Dante. Ready to begin to play his violin, he smashes it pieces and storms off. Setton was in the scene and recalls, “That was wild. He did such a great job with that. That is not an easy moment to hit, pun intended. He nailed it.”

THE CONNECTION WITH JANE ELLIOT
On General Hospital, Brook Lynn is close with her ‘Granny,” the one and only Tracy Quartermaine, and in real life Amanda is very close with Jane Elliot, with whom she was able to share the news of her nomination. “First of all, this woman has become one of my closest friends.”
Amanda adds, I’m not exaggerating. I am confident to say she would say the same. We’ve become really close friends outside of work. We speak, almost every day. We just went out to lunch last week. She’s become such a close person in my life over these last few years. She’s such a leader. Jane’s a really special person in my life after my family. I wanted to share the news of this nomination with her and she was over the moon.”
HARD WORK PAID OFF
Getting a pat on the back from her peers is one of the more touching moments in Amanda’s career, as she explains: “I have to say we’re in the daytime world, so for us it feels so wonderful and so rich. But in the landscape of the entertainment industry, in daytime, we’re in the trenches. We work really hard. We have a ton of pages. We have a ton of really high stakes, dramatic work to try to do in a grounded, authentic way, continuously every day on television. Not that it’s thankless, because thank God we are employed actors on a network TV show, and we are also grateful. But, I’m not going to lie, and say it doesn’t feel good to just get a little ‘thank you’ or like a little, ‘I see your work.’ It feels fulfilling.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Tells Danny: ‘The Place They Were Holding Me Was Bad, Really Bad’

What happened to Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) when he was captivity by the WSB? That is the question on many minds of General Hospital viewers, especially following the airing of the Tuesday, July 14 episode of the ABC daytime drama series, which also received a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards yesterday.
In story and in the pick-up of Monday’s episode, Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) comes face to face with his father at the Quartermaine boathouse. Jason assures his son that he is home for good. However, Jason is confused why the WSB suddenly released him from Jakarta in the last 48 hours.
Danny goes in on his father for taking the fall for Cullum’s shooting when it was Rocco who shot the now deceased WSB director. Jason tried to explain he had to make a last minute decision and didn’t want Rocco’s life to be ruined by shooting another man.

JASON WANTS TO TAKE A SHORT TRIP WITH DANNY
Jason promised Danny that from now on, he is his top priority, and that time away has given him a new perspective. When Danny tries to get more intel from his dad on what he went through, all Jason would say is, “The place they were holding me was bad, really bad.”
Danny admits that the person he told that Rocco shot Cullum was Port Charles bureau chief, Jack Brennan, but he told him that WSB would want Danny to drop the whole thing, and just leave it be now that Cullum is dead.
TRACY SEES JASON
Suddenly, Tracy (Jane Elliot) shows up and is happy to see that Jason has resurfaced saying she knew he would be back. As she welcomed him home, Jason has a favor to ask her.
Next, he proposes much to Danny’s happiness, that he and his son are going to away together for a few days to catch up on things. So, that there is no issue, Jason asks if Tracy can please tell Alexis that he has returned to Port Charles and anyone else that would need to know, so they are not concerned for Danny’s welfare and that they know he is with his dad. Tracy agrees, and she and Jason share a hug.
Now the question is, what happened to Jason? We know his face is beaten up. We saw in flashbacks he was held in a cell and we can see he had been experiencing what seems like PTSD from being in captivity.
Previously, GH co-head writer, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten previewed to Soap Opera Digest on Jason’s return, “His imprisonment has had a profound effect on his outlook and how he intends to conduct the rest of his life. His decision will have big implications for Danny, Britt, the Quartermaines, Anna and especially Sonny.”
So, what do you think happened to Jason while being held by the WSB? Did something horrific occur? Will Jason tell Sonny he can no longer work for him so he no longer puts himself or his family in any kind of danger? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
