GENERAL HOSPITAL: Josslyn Puts an End to Cyrus Renault’s Reign of Terror; Will Brennan Help Her Cover Up the Crime Scene?
By the time the Thursday, February 20th of episode General Hospital began, viewers knew this would be the end of the line for Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), but who would kill him? As it turns out, it looked at the beginning that there would be two likely suspects, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) or Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy).
As the action picked up, Lucky (today played by Guy Wilson subbing for Jonathan Jackson) has been stabbed by a syringe full of digitalis by Renault, who flees the scenes at Liz’s (Rebecca Herbst) house as she calls 9-1-1. Once the paramedics arrive, Lucky is rushed to GH. Liz calls Laura (Genie Francis) and alerts to Lucky’s health crisis.
Eventually, Anna (Finola Hughes) arrives at Liz’s house and puts out an APB for Cyrus. Aiden (Colin Cassidy) comes home and Anna takes him to the hospital where he sits with Laura. Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) is the attending physician and learns from Liz, Lucky received a lethal dose of digitalis and begins to save his life. Later, he comes out to tell the family of Lucky’s condition, only he pauses before he reveals any update.

Meanwhile, Jason is visiting Sam’s grave having a crisis of conscious. He wants to kill Cyrus right now. However, he knows that Sam would want him to do what’s best for their son, Danny and that is to not leave Danny with the possibility of losing two parents, or even having one behind bars for the rest of his life. In the end, Jason chooses doing what’s best for their son is paramount, and to honor what Sam would want him to do.
Josslyn, who is now in the cabin the woods where Cyrus lives, continues to rummage through drawers, closet, the couch anything she can turn upside down determined to find incriminating evidence to bring Renault to justice for killing her boyfriend, Dex Heller. Not giving up in her search, she finds an envelope taped under a desk drawer and there finds the hospital bracelets of all the patients Cyrus killed including Dex and Sam McCall!

As Josslyn is photographing the evidence with her phone, Cyrus shows up at the front door wielding an ax! An ominous Cyrus tells Joss that she shouldn’t have come to the cabin and is about to go after her. However, Josslyn pulls out a gun from seemingly her back pocket and fires two bullets through him, one hitting his chest. As Cyrus slumps to the floor, he calls Josslyn “a murderer” is his final moments on earth.
Stunned by her actions, and not knowing what to do, she looks at her phone and a list of names pops up including Jason and Jack Brennan. She makes a call saying she needs some help. Then, at the end of the episode, Brennan (Chris McKenna) shows up at the cabin door looking over the crime scene.

Now the question becomes, is Brennan going to be there to help Josslyn clean up the crime in order to protect her, or does Brennan have an ulterior motive to hold over her head? Remember, he is the one that led Josslyn directly to Renault with breadcumbs on the cabin location. So is he on the up and up?

According to GH co-head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, when speaking with Soap Opera Digest, “We’ll soon learn why. Brennan’s presence in Port Charles and his proximity to Carly is no accident. His feelings for Carly are accidental, though, and those feelings will come into direct conflict with his intentions for Josslyn.”
So, what did you think about Josslyn being the one to shoot and kill Cyrus Renault? What is Brennan’s plan in all of this? Are you glad Cyrus has been brought to justice? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, take a look at the preview for today’s Friday, February 21st episode of General Hospital.
Cyrus came after Joss with an ax. It is definitely self defense.
I hope we see Joslyn tell Sonny. It would be a great “bonding” moment as she now can understand Sonny in a way she had never thought possible…
My dragons had a nice dinner last night. Welcome to Hell, Cyrus!
Did they eat that awful pony tail too?,Yuk!
Why, why, why can’t we have a whodunnit on this show anymore? Once again, they set up a wide range of characters that can off the villain and instead show the assailant on camera.
Another missed opportunity (after both Shiloh and Peter). Whodunnits can’t be that difficult or expensive to film. I know I’m going way back, but the “Who Killed Susan Moore” storyline was one of the best whodunnits in daytime.
That said, count me intrigued as to where this alliance between Joss and Brennan winds up.
Frank seems to be immune to doing “Whodunit” murder mystery stories. They’ve passed on the opportunity many times in recent years. Most recently Jagger Cates, also Ryan Chamberlain, Peter, the list goes on. You had half of Port Charles that wanted Cyrus dead, which they set up perfectly. They could have made an exciting story out of that. Instead there’s no drama, there’s no mystery. Just like with Sonny shooting Jagger, a story they dropped cold, two bullets to the chest, and a 5 year run on the show is over just like that. The character of Cyrus deserved a better exit. No creativity, no imagination.
I agree in principle, but the issue with whodunnits is that they can quickly spiral out of control if they are not written properly. Remember the “who killed Silas Clay” story? Or the “who killed Diane Jenkins” story on Y&R? Given the direction of the writing recently, I’m not sure I would have trusted it to be written in a satisfying way.
I understand your point, but the writers need to craft the story before putting into scripts. They need a beginning, middle, and end, as well as to know who the murderer is. Too often they don’t plot out that point or change it halfway through the arc; then nothing makes sense.
This is true, Rodd.
Completely agree with you. I’ve been harping about the same thing for years.
This whole story went off the rails when they started having Cyrus kill random people, and it never recovered. Even though Jeff Kober was great, as he always was, in the scenes with Becky Herbst trying to make sense of Cyrus’s actions, the explanation was weak, which is what you get from a weak story that never made sense.
Josslyn killing him was very blah and very anti-climatic after they had seemingly set up a classic ‘Whodunit” on a silver platter with half of Port Charles wanting to see Cyrus dead. That would have been interesting, this wasn’t. Instead the story becomes about Brennan and Josslyn, and his apparent intention to recruit her for the WSB, which is a story I really couldn’t care less about. I don’t like the Brennan recast, either. But that’s a story for another day.
Cyrus deserved a better ending story. He was a good villain at the beginning, but in the end, he went out with a whimper, like many GH villains over the years.
Kudos to Jeff Kober, he took a role that was supposed to last 6 months and turned it into 5 years. Sorry to see him go. Thanks Jeff, it was a pleasure to watch you work!
Good riddance to Cyrus!
She goes in there sleuthing without gloves on, leaving her finger prints everywhere. After she shoots him she moves the ax. Ugh….. It was annoying to watch. Just call 911! I doubt she’d have the book thrown at her. He went after her with an ax. And although I like Brennan, it DID bother me weeks ago when he suggested to his colleague that Josselyn should search for Cyrus. He knowingly sent this young girl down this dangerous path. He gambled with her life.
And Brennan wants her to be a WSB agent? She did everything wrong including letting Cyrus know she was on to him. I think what the writers are doing is paving the way for Joss to have a star struck romance as a WSB agent ( think of young Anna with Scorpio and Duke). Sidwell and Natalia’s son is surely on his way to PC and most likely going to be paired up with Joss. Try as they might, Joss is no Anna Devane.
I know, right? She’s got Carly’s temperament!
Very reactive. Acts before thinking. Righteous indignant. She is hardly someone who lives under the radar.
Bring on Beyond the gates: Finally there will be equality in storylines! I like Joss but she’s always front and center in her own story or someone else’s! Certain characters on GH are never put on the back burner! Also these are the people who are always up for daytime awards because thy always get the stories!!
What terrible timing for Johnathon Jackson to not be there for the pivotal scenes he was to play this week. Strange no explanation as to why.
The scenes where Lucky and Elizabeth met Tobias came across as flat with Guy Wilson. As well his life and death struggle this week due to Cyrus were flat as well.
There was a death in Jonathan Jackson’s immediately family.
I get it. But it really didn’t matter as Lucky lied tgere with all the tubes and the mask hiding much of his face. Had I not known there was a temporary replacement, I would have believed it to be JJ in that hospital bed.
Too bad it wasn’t someone else that got the treat of getting rid of Cyrus, someone who would have really enjoyed and appreciated it more. Yes, Joss wanted revenge for her BF, but she was more or less forced into it.
I feel cheated that we got robbed of a who-dunnit. GH sets up these great story opportunities and then lets us down with showing us exactly who offed the bad guy right from the start. I see where this plays into the WSB vs Josslyn recruiting story, but geeze!, I really wanted a good mystery like in the golden days.
Can they at least close out one long-standing semi-mystery and have Austin’s morgue tag among those in Cyrus’ collection?

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away, and I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things. Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH) and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that A Martinez, when he felt like he had a great show or great scenes would mark it down. So, when Emmy Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing his mom, Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. It wasn’t for him. I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremonies to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment from the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve and Bradford below.
Now, let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
