GENERAL HOSPITAL: After Saving Kristina, Marco Sees Natalia Dead; Michael Reveals He Takes Pain Pills as a Result of His Burns
In a dramatic and emotional episode of General Hospital that aired Tuesday, July 1st, several lives were in peril with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) feud at the epicenter of it all.
At Charlie’s, the fire that was ignited by the gasoline poured inside around the bar worsened with Kristina (Kate Mansi) trapped inside. She grabs a fire extinguisher to start to try and squelch the flames, but they are about to get dangerously close to her. Meanwhile, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) who was headed to the Metro Court Hotel to see his mother, Natalia (Eva LaRue), sees the fire from his car and decides to go in and help.
Once he hears and sees Kristina, he grabs a blanket and is able to shield himself and Kristina enough from the flames to get them safely out the back. Now affected by smoke inhalation, the two get help from the firefighters and paramedics who arrive on the scene. Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shows up and wants to know what happened.

Meanwhile, after the christening, and at the Quartermaine’s after learning about the fire at Charlie’s, Michael’s (Rory Gibson) starts to descend the staircase and begins to flashback to being trapped in a fire at Sonny’s penthouse that burned him so badly. It marked the first time that we saw Michael’s PTSD over the incident.
Later, Michael opens up to Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) as he needed a drink to calm his nerves, as he was worried about Kristina, but he realizes, he can’t drink because he just took a pain pill. Sasha feels terrible as she never knew Michael was still in this much discomfort. Michael levels with her and says he has some residual nerve damage and hopes to soon be pain-free. He also explains it’s not as bad as the debridement (the process of removing all of his burned dead skin). Sasha and Michael connect over his trauma. He promises her that nothing like what happened to him, or Kristina, will happen to his children.

At the Metro Court, Sonny’s security guard cannot get Natalia to open up the hotel room door. He leaves to get some help, but Anna (Finola Hughes) and Chase (Josh Swickard) arrive. Anna gets the key from the hotel and they open the door to find an unconscious Natalia. Chase and Anna also see the bottle of empty pills, the liquor bottle and glass, and Natalia’s clothes thrown all over the place, looking like she was trying to pack for her trip to Belize.
Next at GH, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dr. Isaiah Gannon (Sawandi Wilson) are on their shift, when Natalia is brought in by the paramedics. They are not able to revive her and she is declared dead. Elizabeth calls Lucas (Van Hansis). He thought Marco would have shown up at the Metro Court to see his mother by now. But, Elizabeth tells Lucas the news.

Molly (Kristen Vaganos) arrives at the Quartermaines and then learns of the fire at Charlie’s and is becoming emotionally overwrought. Cody (Josh Kelly) drives her there. She is in tears and in a panic that she cannot lose another sister. Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) has been with Sidwell at Spoon Island going over legal documents, and gets the call about Kristina and she heads out. Alone, Sidwell makes a call and is furious at whoever he is talking to that they were not supposed to burn down Charlie’s with anybody in it.
Alexis makes it to outside Charlie’s and reams out Sonny. She tells him she will not lose another child because of him. At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Brennan (Chris McKenna) is there (after talking with Joss about WSB business), and Carly becomes emotionally distressed thinking back to Michael’s burns. Brennan says she must have PTSD from seeing her son in so much pain and suffering.

At the end of the episode, after being urged to get checked out at GH, Marco runs into Lucas who tries to break the news to him about Natalia, but they get interrupted by Anna and Chase. They say that they need to speak to him about his mother.
“My mother? Why? Is she here? Is she OK?,” an emotional Marco’s asks before pushing past Lucas. Next, he runs to a hospital room and stands there in shock looking at his mother’s lifeless body in the bed as he breaks down in tears.

So, what do you think about how the life of Natalia Roger-Ramirez came to an end? How do you feel about Kristina being saved by Marco in the fire; the daughter of one mobster, and the son of his rival? Do you think that Michael may become dependent on pain pills, or Drew will find out about the pills and do something to make Michael look like an unfit father? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, watch the moment that Marco rescues Kristina.
I really hope that Michael’s mention of the pain pills was meant as a PSA, since he stopped himself from having a drink, even though he wanted one after having “fire flashbacks” because of what happened at Charlie’s.
In that sense it would have been a relevant detail that Mikey is smart enough not to combine booze and pills, which of course is a lesson that Natalia had to learn the hard way.
But what I hope it does NOT lead to is a story of Michael becoming an addict, and Hallmark Drew & Willow using that as an excuse to steal his children from him.
Not that it wouldn’t be a “family tradition” for Michael. Alan, Monica, and AJ all famously had their addiction issues. Hell, at one point Monica even imagined an “alternative timeline” where Jason completed his medical training, became a famous doctor, but also a big time coke head!
So the genetics are there… I just don’t want these writers propping up Drew & Willow anymore at Mikey’s expense. Certainly not because he’s on drugs that he would have never been on if some terrorist (probably Sidwell) hadn’t attacked him
I missed that storyline when Monica dreams Jason was a cokehead. It must have been amusing.
It was during that odd period in 2011 after Bob Guza left as head writer and Garin Wolf took over at least until the Valentini/ReRon regime took over in February 2012. Most of his writing was atrocious, especially towards the Spencer family. But this piece was entertaining in a way. Even if it was an alternative timeline, triggered by Jason’s 666rh brain surgery and Monica wondering what his life might have been like if he were a doctor.
Wolf’s one saving grace was his respect for Monica. It was during a writers’ strike that Wolf wrote a newly alcoholic Monica hitting Sam with her car.
Then, during his short stint as head writer, Wolf brought Monica back from attending every single medical convention as Guza (instructed by JFP) stopped writing for Monica.
As good as that was, there was no excuse for the lady in white or the character of Siobhan.
I hope the writers don’t turn Michael into a drug addict but with the recent horrible writing, they might mess this up also. I like the possible PSA announcement
but go no further with a drug storyline. Let Michael be happy and recover from everything he’s had to deal with – without drugs.
And end Drillow!!!!
Interesting connection with the Michael not drinking and Natalia. If they were to portray Natalia’s death as a true suicide, wouldn’t they have to put a special warning on the episode and the national hotline number?
Right now, I think they’re in the last steps of moving along some of the Q-adjacent stories to launch Monica’s goodbye and the who gets the house story to follow. The studio is dark for the next 4 weeks, so I wonder if that’s already bern shot.
Oh good catch paralleling Natalia mixing her prescribed drugs with alcohol with Michael’s reticence to do the same. I really hope nothing prolongs this endless custody battle. Even on a good day I despise child custody battles and this one is especially dreary. Moreover, I’m tired of Teflon Drew winning at the expense of others as it reminds me too much of someone who shall not be named. I really could use an injection of positivity into my escapism right about now and that’s not something I normally say.
Time flies Harry.. just keep remembering that.
But what we’ve irrevocably lost in such a short amount of time.
I cannot disagree. This Canadian guy will always love your General Hospital
Why the hell didn’t Kristina run out the back door she came in from? That was ridiculous. And why didn’t she turn on lights when she came in from the back? She had plenty of time to get out on her own. I wish Michael & Sasha would get together. And I love Cody & Molly together. Hurry up!
Interesting how cool Joss is. Never a bad dream about murdering Cyrus. No flashbacks. Like it never even happened!
Glad to see Natalia gone. They really trashed her character. She started out as a tough as nails “momager” of Blaze’s career. Yes, a homophobe but we got past that. She worked well with the girls at Deception. But suddenly she’s the ex of Sidwell! And oh the mother of Marco too who is also gay? And she is a drunk with a previous DWI conviction! I could have seen her & Sonny together if not for all that. She was very supportive of him when he was sick. They destroyed her character & could go nowhere else with it. Too bad.
They have to destroy any woman who dares to fall in love with Sonny whose name is not Carly. I swear, there’s a writer’s template that says so.
Eva La Rue, but her character was a homophonic bitch.
I was referring to the character, Natalia, not Eva LaRue the actress.
How ironic that Marco saved his sister’s former girlfriend from a Blaze.
So tired of EVERYTHING always being Sonny’s fault. These writers are ruining a good program. Bout ready to stop watching
But Sonny is planning to warn Sidwell by harming his son, Marco, who saved his daughter’s life. Not excusing Sidwell for starting the fire that burned down Charlie’s but he gave orders that Charlie’s had to be empty. He wasn’t trying to hurt Histrina. Now Sonny is willfully going to plan to hurt Marco, again, the man who saved Sonny’s daughter. Maybe Sonny is the propeller that keeps the vicious cycle going. And maybe Sonny is not only as bad as Sidwell but worse. I’m with Tracy on this. I’m weary of Sonny being portrayed as some cuddly, charismatic, town hero with dimples when really, he is a stone cold killer and criminal.
I’m as tired of Sonny as Maurice Benard is tired of Sonny. Time to retire both the character and the actor.
Maybe with Jonathan Jackson leaving.. they had to burn down Charle’s since the main reason for giving the bar a make-over with a stage and a bunch of neon and real guitars hanging on the walls, was gone.
Interesting connection with JJ, but they never really have to destroy a set unless it’s critical to story.
With Charlie’s and The Floating Rib gone, the only bar set is The Brown Dog – which is actually a smaller reworked Rib.
Frank & team have remodeled many sets over the last 5 plus years. Next on the list should be the main Metro Court dining room and we’re almost due for some tweaks to the hospital hub.
I had hoped for a few live / open mic performances from a few cast members when Lucky starting working there.
I really liked Natalia’s character and I thought Eva did an excellent job portraying her, No redemption needed. She was the realest character on there. General Hospital is getting too heavy. No humor or lighthearted moments that I see
It’s interesting that not long ago, Elizabeth told someone that she couldn’t give them any medical information on someone, due to HIPPA, but she turns around & calls Lucas, about Natalia? She’s NOT related to Lucas. Unless Natalia or Marco had listed Lucas as a contact, Elizabeth just broke the law. I used to work in the medical field, & they take HIPPA SERIOUSLY. Of course, this is a soap, & things are not necessarily done, by the book. Natalia ‘s death is sad. She really felt alone, & in a way, she was. Unfortunately, Marco now has no chance to apologize to her or vice versa. Lucas was pushing Marco to make good w/Natalia, before it was too late. NOW, IT’S TOO LATE..
Let Marco go after ADA for trying to use her to get to Sonny. L I bes to see if he is as ruthless as his dad
He should go ruthless ON his dad. It would be easy for Marco to convince himself that if he did not have to stop to rescue Kristina from the fire started by his daddy’s goons, that he might have made it to the Metro Court in time to save his mama’s life.
Probably not, since I’m pretty sure she was dead the moment she passed out on the couch, but at least the case could be made to make old Sidwell feel guilty about it, in his son’s eyes.
Whatever you writer decide to do please, please don’t have Micheal depending on pills and for god sake don’t let Drew find out bouth the pills so sick of him he needs to go please hurry up and get ridge of him and willow
Whenever anything is mentioned presumably in passing, it becomes a plot point. It wouldn’t be realistic to believe Michael still doesn’t have residual effects from almost being burned to death. It would seem the deck is stacked against him, either from family history of addiction or Drew finding out about the pills and using it against Michael for his nefarious reasons.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
