GH's Marc Anthony Samuel Confirms He Is Off-Contract & On Recurring Status Stating: "Onward and Upward!"

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

There will be a little less Felix is Port Charles, as Marc Anthony Samuel confirmed via his Twitter account that he has been taken off-contract at General Hospital and that he has indeed gone to recurring status with the ABC soap opera.

Marc tweeted after the outpouring of love and support shown to him by GHers,  “Hey fans, thanks for the support. GH is just a small part of a great and ongoing journey. Onward and upward! To be clear guys, I’m recurring. Not on contract though.”

With so many stories playing out on GH these days, and the series at this point playing the romance of Brad (Parry Shen) and Lucas (Ryan Carnes), is Felix now truly the odd man out?

So, what do you think of Marc being taken-off contract? Would you like to see more of Felix on the Port Charles canvas? Comment below!

I would have liked to see more of Marc/Felix. He is such good support for Lucy and Sabrina. I hope that he would be put back on contract soon. I’m going to miss him!

The actor has charisma & talent. He should find something on primetime soon. Felix’s days were numbered when he hitched his wagon to the Sabrina train, who herself is left without much to do these days.

It’s too bad, the character had potential that was never realized due to the writing. First as Sabrina’s propper and then part of a very poorly conceived and extremely stereotyped gay triangle. Very unfortunate because Marc is a very good actor as well. What is all the high priced “talent” getting the show anyway? The ratings are no better since Stafford has been on and Billy Miller did absolutely nothing, just like Howarth and Easton etc did nothing. All these so called “great actors” just come to GH and play themselves portraying their former characters and don’t bring any viewers,… Read more »

The actor Rick Hearst/Ric has played on B&B DOOL & Y&R also and each role he played was totally different the only way you could tell it was the same actor was his face. He would be what I would say a good solid performer and yet RC brings him back to quick write him out in some silly plot. This is the stuff that makes you go WHY?

GH50

Yes, Rick Hearst is a fantastic actor. It is an insult to actors of his caliber when people refer to Howarth as great. When you watch Rick Hearst, you see the character he is creating. When you watch Howarth, you see the actor doing stuff, doing schtick, hamming it up for the camera and his fans. When you see the actor and not the character, it is a fail. That’s what TPTB think people want. To have a segment of fans watch their actor crushes and pretend they are great. How much was made of Howarth pretending to eat popcorn… Read more »

Ha I thought I was the only one that notice these people basically come on another soap and play the same character they formally played. In my opinion it’s kind of how you can tell if someone is an outstanding actress/actor or not.I think Mrs.Tamara Bruan is one of the few who played different characters and you could tell the difference. She played crazy dark haired Ava Vitali on Days in 2008. Then came back in 2011 and played a sweet blonde haired Taylor Walker etc. I really hate when actors/actress do not differ their multiple roles in Soaps..

This is a tad off point but as long as we’re speaking of vets…I never realized how…errrr…not good an actress Kristina Wagner is. She was the gorgeous love of Frisco’s life…the adventurous…and back in the day she was a pivotal and great character to watch. But in the few scenes she’s had since her return I find her so over-the-top…even in the smallest scenes. If she cries she looks like a quiveering-lipped little girl, if she’s supposed to be talking to her campaign supporters she looks like she’s in a musical bobbing her head to some accompanying beat from The… Read more »

GH50, always such a positive and pleasant poster! GH has been fantastic lately, sorry you’re not enjoying it. To answer one of your comments, the GH vets have been used very well in the recent storylines. Everyone has been acknowledging the work of Kin Shriner, Jackie Zeman, Lynn Herring, Finola Hughes, Ian Buchanan etc. I love John York, Kristina Wagner, all the names you mentioned, beloved, iconic characters all. But unfortunately, it’s not 1994 anymore. They’re not leading, front burner characters in 2014. But as supporting players, absolutely, and the show has done a great job using it’s very deep… Read more »

Dan, what is keeping up with the times? Having Todd Manning and Y&R’s Phyllis dominating the show? They started out around 1994 didn’t they? They’re actors who are around 50 years old aren’t they? And then there’s 74 year Old Donna Mills right? All very new and fresh. And of course the point was about the caliber of acting which is sorely missing,

GH50, I’m curious and I ask this in all sincerity in an effort to understand better where you’re coming from. If you were in charge of GH, which characters would you like to see featured? As far as the caliber of acting, in my opinion as someone that has watched the show for about 20 years now, and the opinion of the vast majority of the comments and articles I’ve read on this site and others, the acting on GH is the best it’s been in years. The show has been getting rave reviews not only from fans, but from… Read more »

Well Dan, I’ve seen plenty of reviews from fans discussing GH that don’t find it great. The one’s who do are mostly Roger Howarth fans who followed him here and will basically watch him do anything and applaud but even more than that love to see him do his Todd schtick and that’s what he has been doing. Dan, I have to echo what GH50 is saying. If the majority of the comments you are seeing are praising GH, you may need to check out some other sites for contrast (Serial Drama, for example, which has a link from this site—the posters on there are almost uniformly negative about current-GH, so much so that when I pipe up with my “well, it’s a mixed bag” opinions, I look quite positive by comparison). What I’m seeing is a strong split—substantial numbers who think it’s great, substantial numbers who think it’s awful—with someone like me, who sees a good bit… Read more »

I really like Felix but more upset about John York. Mac is an excellent character. they need to man up and write a decent storyline for him. The guy is very cute, and a very good actor. Why don’t they write him a storyline. What an insult. Anyone over about 40 is relegated to the margins except for Sonny.

You must be joking. Alexis, Julian, Ava, Nina, Silas, Jake/Jason, Tracy, Luke, Ned, Olivia, Nicholas, Liesel Obrecht, Carly & Franco have had the majority of the storylines on GH for the past 3 months….and they are ALL over 40 years old. In fact, GH has concentrated less on the age group of 25 & under, & played more to “older” characters lately. Michael, Lucas, Dante, Lulu, Britt, Elizabeth, Patrick & Sam are not exactly teenagers either. They are all in their mid-30’s.

Sorry to see Felix go to recurring. But GH is so overloaded with characters and talents, it figures some are placed on the back burner. Do wish GH could identify and focus on a few core characters and maybe clean house some more. With so many characters and plots, it is difficult to really become fully engaged as I once did. Minority opinion perhaps, but my opinion nonetheless.

I agree – this is not a big deal. They can still use Felix as much as they want/need until he finds another gig. Many GH characters are recurring, such as: Dr. O, Brad, Milo, Felicia, Lucy, Duke, Epiphany, Diane, etc. and we still see them often. Some (like Dr. O) we see more than some contract players!

Felix was written way too “one note” to have longevity. He was supposed to be Sabrrrrrrrrrrina’s bestie but really all he did was over involve himself and belie their friendship by constantly outing her secrets. He was way too stereotypical. Hopefully RC writes him with a bit more depth or cuts him loose so he can shine elsewhere.

I’m Caucasian, but I fully appreciate & recognize the need for diversity & ethnicity on soaps. When Sean’s character was introduced I thought he showed potential with the PTSD material. Now the character is a boring dud. TJ & Taylor do well, but we see less of TJ these days. I say all that to say that less of Felix/Marc means less representation of AA/ethic characters. I know the character annoyed some but I thought it was a nice change of pace from the usual suspects. And it seems as if RC never intended for his character to find love.… Read more »

Recurring characters often play major roles in more than one episode, sometimes being the main focus.
Felix will be on screen..

a high percent of soap casts are recurring..
Full contracts are for the popular stars, usually..

su0000 how astute of you!!! You are so right. Recurring often means less salary and suddenly a surge of your character all over every story on the canvas. Most actors I venture to say would contemplate what’s worse..a little less money or the chance to sink your teeth into multiple story arcs and suddenly become a contract player all over again?? That’s how it usually works. Expect to see Felix in the coming months in another big storyline…I have no doubt it’s in the works as other stories play out and Spring or Summer comes back around. Yes, davlestev1, the characters you mention were big parts of those soaps back in the day…. and despite being very young at the time, I remember them all well. I also recall how they had integral storylines that meshed with the rest of those from their perspective casts….I never looked at them as being “minorities” solely put there for the sake of “diversity,” quotas or trying to prove a point. It was simply good storytelling with fine actors…much like GH’s Asian Quarter arc or SB’s many Latin characters back in the 1980’s….that’s why I am so against the current craze… Read more »

I’ll miss Felix. His character had such a nice disposition without being sucky in the middle of all of the other drama and chaos that’s been going on. But I do agree with others that he needed more of a storyline beyond a temporary love triangle and Sabrina’s bestie.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Felix isn’t an important enough character to keep in contract. Britt too, I’m glad she was demoted. After Sabrina, I predict it will be T.J. (since we see so little of him anyway, and I believe Tequan Richmond is on contract still) and then Shawn and Jordan.

Now all the gay characters are recurring. We barely see them now. I just fear that we will see them even less and they will never have a story of their own. Even Brad’s friend Britt is now on recurring. They were gone for 6 weeks not that long ago. If that’s going to be the norm, what’s the point of having gay characters at all.

Jimmy

I don’t think this is a slam against gay characters, and Britt’s demotion doesn’t have anything to do with it. Kelly Thiebaud expressed the desire to branch out of daytime, and I think Marc Antony Samuel should do the same. He’s a good actor and I think he would do very well in primetime. As for the storylines, there is so much going on right now, and so many important plot points, like the fallout of the Hallowedding, Fluke’s reveal, Jake/Jason, Nina stealing Ava’s baby, etc… that it’s hard to incorporate every contract character. And being on recurring isn’t a… Read more »

Jimmy…Felicia, Bobbie, Scott, Lucy…yes…we “see” them all the time. That’s all we do. See them. And, it’s barely sometimes. When was the last time a major story involved any of these characters. Mac and Felicia pop up occasionally in his bar, Lucy goes to see them at said bar, and Bobbie is either wearing a bathrobe at Scott’s or sitting on the couch at Carly’s house. Not exactly scintillating stories or much airtime. They’re just fillers who add a touch of vintage GH.

@rebecca1…..As you know, I am always one with a wish list for legacy characters to return to GH….Frisco, Noah, Blackie, Scorpio, Ethan, Lucky, Laura, Holly, and assorted Cassadines, et al. We could never “see” enough of these reminders of “vintage GH,” as you put it…however, the current crop of oldies to which we are now “treated” do absolutely nothing for me…I have already commented about Felicia, and I’ve also found Mac to be immaterial for quite some time. Love Felix! He brings a touch of sincerity….there’s something very warm about his eyes…and yet he brings on the levity as well when the scene calls for it. I didn’t realize that Marc was even on contract. I don’t recall him being pictured in the opening credits. I thought only the contract actors were featured in the opening credits. Guess not! It’s too bad. I liked the character of Felix-mostly his friendship with Sabrina and Carly and his few scenes with Lucy while planning the Nurse’s Ball. This doesn’t surprise me and to be honest, I don’t really care. Felix is not a main character, and even though Marc Antony Samuel is talented, it doesn’t mean GH should keep him on contract. There are so many other storylines going on right now, so many other, more important characters to focus on. Hopefully Teresa Castillo is next, and she will be gone soon. Nancy Lee Grahn Debuted 25 Years Ago Today as General Hospital’s Alexis Davis

Back on September 26th, 1996, (25 years ago today!) the new character of Alexis Davis made her debut on ABC’s General Hospital, and brought to the iconic soap opera, the talents of Nancy Lee Grahn.

Grahn, had already made a name for herself with her captivating portrayal of lawyer Julia Wainwright Capwell on Santa Barbara for which she won a Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy in 1989, in a tie with AMC’s Debbi Morgan.

Back in April, General Hospital, marked this milestone with a special episode for Grahn, that could be remembered come next year’s Emmys.

Alexis, or shall we call her “Natasha”, was introduced on GH as the daughter of Mikkos Cassadine and his mistress, whose throat was slit by Helena Cassadine, which has played into Alexis’ story for many years to come.  At the time of her entrance to the show, Wendy Riche was GH’s executive producer.

Through the years, viewers have witnessed Grahn’s portrayal of: a tough legal eagle, an honest depiction of a woman battling the bottle, failed romances, while all the time being a loving and faithful mother to her three daughters, Sam, Molly, and Kristina.

Nancy won her second Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy, this time for her role as Alexis in 2012, and has been a multi-nominee in the Lead Actress category for her performances on the ABC daytime drama series.

Kate Grahn, Nancy’s daughter took to social media within the last few hours since we posted this story to share a video on how thankful she and her mom are to GH fans and Nancy’s time on the show which afforded her the ability to have and raise Kate.  Check that out below.

Here’s to Nancy for giving us 25 years of her on-screen work as Alexis!

Congratulate Nancy and tell us your favorite Alexis Davis moments via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny Comes Home as Jason and Carly Begin Their Wedding Night

Monday’s episode of General Hospital continued to set the stage for major payoffs in the long and winding road tale of everyone in Port Charles believing Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is dead.

Only now, with his memory in tact, Sonny is very much alive, no longer living as “Mike” in Nixon Falls. and back in the town which he ruled as the mob kingpin.  Problem is: his wife, Carly (Laura Wright) just got married to his best friend, Jason (Steve Burton) and they are about to have their first night together as newlyweds.  And without all the subplot and subtext, Sonny has no idea that they were first brought together to be a united front to save Sonny’s territory from the ‘Five Families’.  Only now, the two have admitted they truly are in-love with each other.

In story, after the bomb that went off was proven to kill mobsters Buscema and Novak, and not its intended target – the newlyweds – thanks to a double-cross from Ms. Wu – Jason, Carly, and Ms. Wu discuss Cyrus Renault’s (Jeff Kober) involvement and that Wu is happy for Jason and Carly.

At the wedding reception, Michael (Chad Duell) gives a touching speech about his mom and Jason and gives the official toast.  Later, Jason and Carly head out after Carly throws the bouquet which Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) catches.

Meanwhile, back in Nixon Falls, Sonny gets out of dodge and away from Nina (Cynthia Watros), thanks to Jax’s (Ingo Rademacher) plane, while Nina gets a visit from Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Anna (Finola Hughes), where she admits that Peter (Wes Ramsey) was in Nixon Falls, and caused the fire, and is going to go after Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and the baby.  She does not tell them what she did keeping Sonny away from his family for 9 months.

Anna and Peter split up to find Peter, and Peter’s exit ride hasn’t show up yet to get him out of Nixon Falls, so Anna catches him, gun drawn.

Later at the Corinthos home, Jason and Carly are alone together in the bedroom with wedding night jitters, but Jason says there is no rush as the two kiss, just as Sonny arrives home, smiles, looks around, sees photos of himself with Carly and the family, and heads upstairs!

Will Sonny find the two in each others arms and not tell then he is alive?  Will something call him away? Will Jason and Carly have sex? When will Nina get payback for all that she has done to Carly and Sonny?  Will Peter get away from Anna? Let us know your theories in the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Sonny Tells Nina He Knows Exactly Who He Is; Jason & Carly’s Wedding Comes to an Explosive Conclusion

Is it game over for Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), or does she have another trick up her sleeve to keep Sonny (Maurice Benard) to herself, now that he remembers who is he?

On Friday’s dramatic episode of General Hospital, “Mike” looks to be gone and Sonny has come back in full force complete with a super hero moment escaping from being trapped underneath the beam that had fallen on top of him inside the burning Tan-O.  Sonny makes his escape after inhaling so many fumes, that he needs medical attention and is rushed to the hospital with Nina going along with him.

Inside the hospital, once given the all clear, Phyllis (Joyce Guy) tells Nina, “Mike” is asking for her, while Jax (Ingo Rademacher) pleads to let the doctors handle this situation.  But, Nina heads inside the room to see Sonny.  Then came the dramatic moment that many GH fans were waiting for.  As Nina calls him “Mike, he rips off his oxygen mask in anger and says that his name is Sonny and he remembers everything!  Nina does a pivot, knowing she is caught, and says the name may have have been a fake one, but they cannot deny the way they feel about each other.  She tells him that she honestly loves him and Sonny defiantly tells her NOT to say that.  Meanwhile Jax confirms to Phyllis that Nina always knew that “Mike” was Sonny and hid it from her and Sonny for months!

Back in Port Charles, Jason (Steve Burton) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) wedding comes to a conclusion! No one interrupts the wedding and the two look lovingly at each other to start their new life together as husband and wife.

Courtesy/ABC

After the ceremony, mobsters Ms. Wu, Vincent, and Charles have a moment where she says “be wary of tomorrow”.  Jason and Carly have a moment alone where Jason looks truly in love with Carly now and all of those feelings he had buried for years have now come back to the surface. How will this all play out when Sonny comes back into everyone’s lives, alive and well?

After the reception had ended, Jason and Carly get in their limo to drive away as newlyweds.  She asks Jason what Ms. Wu whispered in his ear at the reception, he says she confirmed something he already knew.  Meanwhile, Vincent and Charles get in their limo.  Charles shares the world is about to be a better place without Carly and Jason in it.

Next, Carly tells the driver to start the car, and we see a bomb device under a car and the chapel blown up as the show comes to its conclusion.

Our bet is that the Novak/Buscema car was blown to bits, not Jarly’s limo thanks to a Wu double-cross, but we shall see next week! Great performances from Maurice Benard, Cynthia Watros, Laura Wright, and Steve Burton throughout this one.

So, what did you think of the moment Sonny told Nina he remembered who he is? What did you think of Jason and Carly’s nuptials? What do you think will happen next? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.
