GH’s Michael Easton and Finola Hughes Deliver the ‘Power Performances of the Week’

By Michael Fairman

It was an emotional week of episodes on General Hospital as the double-wedding of Finn (Michael Easton) and Anna (Finola Hughes), and Peter (Wes Ramsey) and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) took a double nose-dive.

Each installment left us wondering if either couple would actually get hitched, but when Finn and Anna were the first to combust and not Peter and Maxie, it set the stage for two beloved soap veterans to once again, remind us all, why they are always at the top of the game when required to play high drama that tugs at the heartstrings.

In story, Finn is gut-punched, (and no one can play that better than Michael Easton), when Anna reveals that she knew that Peter was not her biological son and had done all the horrific deeds he has been hiding, in an effort to stop Maxie from marrying Peter.  When Finn realizes Anna confided in Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), and they were working together to bring Peter down it was too much for him to take.

Finn walks out on their wedding.  Alone and with tears welling up in his eyes, Finn feels his chance at love is dashed again.  Add to the fact, he has DNA results to prove if he is Chase’s (Josh Swickard) father and not his brother, or not, and the guy has been through the wringer of late.

As for Anna, she has literally imploded her own life, while trying to save others, after realizing the error of her ways; constantly putting her faith in Peter.  When she comes to visit Finn, she knows no matter what she says to Finn it looks bad.  She sees how she has hurt him, and hopes they can still repair their now fractured relationship, but she has to stop Peter and help her God-daughter, Maxie from making the biggest mistake of her life, so she leaves him to go back to the scene of the double-wedding.

Later in the week, Anna shares a heartfelt scene with her ex Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), whom she knows she can have an honest conversation knowing her life of espionage and their shared history.  Meanwhile, Jackie (Kim Delaney) and Finn’s pull is there as well, as it appears Jackie’s attraction to Finn still remains all these years later when he visits her shortly after being blindsided by Anna at the nuptials.

Throughout the week, Easton and Hughes played all the nuances of their character’s emotional life, as the audience witnessed which just might be the end of the line for Finn and Anna.

For all of these reasons and more, Michael Fairman TV names Michael and Finola’s work, The Power Performances of the Week.

So, let us know, what did you think of what happened to Finn and Anna? The double-wedding fiasco? Did you enjoy Michael and Finola’s scenes? Comment below.

Love both actors, was hoping for a happy ending but it like it is not meant to be.
Maybe back to the exes Anna and Robert and Finn and Hayden.

I absolutely agree, they gave power-house performances. However, I DO hope that they can find their way back together. I’m totally rooting for them.

Good performances indeed. Honorable mentions to:

Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) best line: “this wedding makes me nauseous” speaking for many fans.

Jophielle Love (Violet) cutest line: “uh oh” totally unexpected and a great moment of levity.

John J York (Mac) for delivering a well earned punch

And finally

Tristan Rogers for speaking the truth

Those scenes were so good as were the episodes they were in. I hope eventually Ana and Robert work their way back to each other.

Yes!!!

I used to want Robert and Anna to get back together but after the way Anna has treated Robert I am still processing the fact that Anna told Robert b ert that Duke was the love of her life not Robert. However I did like thee scene with Robert and Anna the day of the revelation of peters true nature, but don’t like the pairing of finn and Anna valentine is much better.. would like to see Robert and Holly orr Olivia

You still need better writers. Especially if you are going to bring back Neil. REALLY!!

Time to bring Hayden back.

I love both of these two actors as well as their characters! I’m hoping they can repair their relationship!!

Oh boy, I know I’m gonna get some backlash here but… I like both these performers but I don’t like Anna & Finn as a couple. I don’t feel any passion whatsoever and see even less in common. Anna seems subdued to the point of catatonia around Finn. To me, Chase is the only one who brings some life out of his bro/dad (?) Chase is so cute when he’s teasing Finn, whereas Finn seems too nonchalant with Anna. Just my opinion. That said, this was a terrific week for GH. The Nina debacle with Wiley was also excellent. What was she THINKING telling a two-year-old his mom isn’t really? Bad move!

Soaphound
I agree. This Nina thing is really in my opinion, so Willow will see the heart necklace and say, oh, where did you get that? I’ve been looking all over for it, etc, etc. Also, poor little Wiley can’t put two words together and we are to think he said,Oh Grandma, how are we related?

Good one, Violet. I had the same idea… when Wiley “expressed his concern” about his parentage, how EXACTLY did he phrase that? They act like he was reading “DNA Test Results for Toddlers”!

I feel the writers let no one be happy for any length of time, I wish they would let just one couple survive and be happy !

I don’t understand whT MAKES FINN THINK HE IS SO INNOCENT,HE MAY BE HIS BROTHERS FATHER ISTEAD OF HIS BROTHER ,AND HE BLAMES ANNA FOR NOT TELL HIM ABOUT PETER,ONE IS AS GUILTY AS THE OTHER,and I believe ANNA and Finn make a great couple and should get married

Maryanne’s Granny
I guess I see things a little differently. Finn was keeping the secret that he MIGHT be Chase’s father, so as to protect his family. Anna, on the other hand was protecting only Peter, despite everyone else’s feelings that he was bad. She also felt guilty thinking he was hers and had let him be given to his father. I also see no chemistry between Finn and Anna, nothing, also nothing in common.

Total agreement, Violet. The only good thing that MAY come out of this is the chance for Chase/Josh to have some strong material. Lately he’s just supporting everyone else…though he sure looks great doing it! And Anna already demanding instant forgiveness from Maxie is laughable.

I really hope its not finito for Fin and Finn (Finola and Hamilton Finn!). How many lies has Finn told and kept secrets from his dad and brother(?) and he knew about the blood tests that Anna had done about Peter after he said something about the arthritis… he knew Peter wasn’t her son, but it seemed like he was saying he didn’t know at the wedding.

Anna and Finn:
The odd couple.
Another odd pairing is Finn and Gregory—Finn looks like he could be Gregory’s father. Gregory is so hot!!
Anna and Finn: No spark. No passion. No come hither, baby!!
Anna cannot compare to Hayden. No sex appeal!! It is said that women are the best judges of other women. Perhaps it’s because she gets on my nerves. I don’t know….
Finn was at his ‘highest’ with Hayden. He came alive. I credit Rebecca for that.
The writers used Anna as a patsy with the Faison-Helena-Peter imbroglio—–she was at their mercy —a convenience. Such a farce. Can it get any worse? Just end it and bring back Drew….
And, Franco. Bring him back, too.—-could be Cameron is right about him. What we saw in the morgue was a “facsimile” of Franco? A dummy? Well, Satan already considers Frodd a dummy anyway. LOL. But, I truly like both actor and character.
Best performance or not, by Anna and Finn, this plot is old and tiresome.
What’s more heartwrenching is Chase’s sensitive situation. I hope, this time, the writers handle it with kid gloves—-and, please, pleeeease, do not lose Chase. I have this fear Joshua is at the end of his contract?

Anna with Finn turns my stomach..
Anna has a daughter Finns age and a grandaughter Finn
could date–
The worst pairing of a couple, ever..
No wig and excessive facelift can hide the age facts..
I hope they break-up..
Grandma and Finn are not cool.. LOL
0ooh well, as for the wig, they both have/wear em ..

Bring back Finn and Anna Together Again.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
