The 2024 awards season is now officially underway with the Primetime Emmys next week on January 15th, and last night’s 81st annual Golden Globes honoring the best in motion pictures and television as voted on by the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association).

The telecast was back on CBS this year and produced by Dick Clark Productions, and it certainly was a step up from other recent award shows in terms of the banter between the presenters. The best moment of the night came when former Saturday Night Live and motion picture stars, Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig presented together, and became overwhelmed by cheesy comedy music that would interrupt them, only for the two to give into the music and dance.

In the winner’s circle, leading the pack was HBO’s Succession for its final season. The drama took home four Golden Globes on Sunday. Netflix limited series Beef took home three including: a first for wins by Asian actors in the category of Female Actor and Male Actor in a limited series for Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.

FX’s The Bear won three – Jeremy Allen White took Make Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, while his co-star Ayo Edebiri took Supporting Actress honors in the field, and the show was named Best TV Musical or Comedy.

Succession’s, Keiran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen all took home acting prizes as did Elizabeth Debicki for her role as Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown.

The ceremony was hosted by comic Jo Koy, who in his opening monologue, attempted a joke about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, only for cameras to catch a not-so-pleased Swift shooting Koy a bit of a daggered look.
