Days of our Lives Daytime-Emmy winning star Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady) announced he has finished taping episodes of the long-running NBC soap opera.  Greg has played the role of Eric since 2012..

Vaughan was a guest on GH’s Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton’s (Jason) weekly podcast, That’s Awesome! with Steve and Bradford, where he shared “I’ve finished my reign at DAYS,” and that he was in the middle of reprising his role of Calvin on OWN’s Queen Sugar.

Due to the COVID-19, Vaughan shared he was there for a week, and then production was shut down.

To the Days viewers he expressed: “To all my DAYS fans, if you’re listening, I love you all. It’s never over, so I’m going to say it’s over.”

Greg also shared that he made the decision in late 2019 during contract negotiations citing, “I’m taking a break, if you will. Days was going through a renewal negotiation and not knowing where they were going to go,” adding that he felt his “time was coming to an end (there), anyway”

Listen to the That’s Awesome podcast with Greg as special guest here.

Remember when the news broke about everybody at Days being “released from their contracts” and how they immediately put out tweets & statements saying not to panic, that Days was in great shape and everybody was coming back…. or words to that effect?

Since then, we have learned that pretty much half the cast is either confirmed to be gone, or rumored to be gone when the show begins airing new episodes (presumably in October).

At this point, it’s probably going to be a shorter list to mention who still WILL be there. And realistically speaking, I don’t expect to see Victor Kiriakis or Doug Williams (given their age & health issues) on the set any time soon.

Hell forbid we turn on the show in mid October and see the screen crowded with ReRon newhires (anybody who saw General Hospital after February 2012 knows what a Devil is talking about here) and nobody resembling a legacy family member (Horton/Brady/Kiriakis/DiMera)

Now on the other horn….. Greg putting in an appearance on Spin & Jason’s podcast…. is this a hint that he’s on his way back to Port Charles?

I say yes, but…… here’s a Devil thinking outside the box……

Greg is a great actor, but the whole time he was on GH, I never recognized the character he played as “Lucky Spencer”. He was like a totally different guy who happened to have the same name. And now that Jonathan Jackson has returned on multiple occasions since then, it would be even less likely for Greg to be accepted in the role.

But what if he were a Drew Cain recast? Realistically, he looks closer to Steve Burton than Billy Miller did. Nothing against Billy, but I don’t think he wants to come back. But the Drew character still has a place in Port Charles.

Let’s hear it, mortals… Is the Devil on to something here??

I won’t disagree! But the core legacy family members are getting up there in age. Drake Hogestyn is 66 years old. Deidre Hall is 72 years old. Susan Seaforth Hayes Is 77 years old. These three people may no longer not want to be on the show as often as they used to be. Also factor in the fact that Susan’s husband Bill Hayes is 95 years old: she may not want to be away from home on a daily basis. Susan, Drake and Deidre May see being released from contracts as a blessing in disguise. Then there is the very reality that for DOOL to survive the show has to appeal to younger viewers who were not alive in the 1980’s. Recast Drew Cain? Absolutely not!

I would say that you are on to something! GH recasted Tamara Braun and Sarah Brown, why not try it with Greg Vaughn? And Drew is not the legacy character that Carly is.

Well, he’s fine as Eric, although his character is a bit sanctimonious at times. Will they keep the character of Eric and recast, or simply have him leave town for a different job or what ~

A bit shocking especially after two decades Eric and Nicole finally get married! So, where does this leave Nicole, does she stay in Salem or is Ari Zucker leaving, too? I just don’t know how Nicole can stay in Salem unless they break up the couple. Is Ari Zucker leaving, too? I understand and respect Greg’s departure – but for sake of story, where does this leave Nicole? Will they find purpose for her to remain in Salem? Lots of departures from DAYS this fall. I look forward to some new actors to come onboard.

Gosh, is ANYONE going to be left on DAYS? Eric, Hope, Rafe, Ciara, Gabi, Sonny and Will are all leaving?? Something’s going on there and it ain’t good in my opinion!

What is happening with this show???

My guess is that NBC wants to reinvent DOOL. Gone or rarely seen will be the core legacy group and in their place a whole new set of characters. Look what is happening now: Sarah, Eric, Hope, Sonny, Will, Brady, Rafe, Kayla and Steve have either gone or will be leaving.

Magnifique

I could mind – ALL – the upheaval… walk in shit

you could swirl exclamations expletives , just don’t touch Greg Vaughan

i’m patiently awaiting the return of Kristen/Brady/Rachel. THIS IS TEARS welling

aside from Rafe’alicious… it was always Eric Magnifique presence

i’m now in trepidation… that walk in shit just stank

he’s an actor !!!!

if @GH does call…. FIRE : Roger Howarth ; Michael Easton ; Chad Duell
for this Keeper.

Mr. Greg Vaughan

GH needs him!

Time for a recast.

What about Nicole?

No more recasts! They have been a series of disasters ever since ReRon took over the show. Worst of all being that OLTL pet calling itself “Eve Donovan” (no resemblance whatsoever to the actual character) and that bug-eyed abomination they tried to pass off as “Diana Colville” last year. And thank all that’s unholy that we got the real Vivian back, however briefly, to undo the damage done by another sad recast.

Unless they can somehow convince Jensen Ackles (the original Eric) to come back, don’t bother with a recast. And that’s not likely, since he’s just now wrapping up a decade or so on a prime time series (which admittedly a Devil hasn’t even seen. Hey, I’ve got eternity to work with here, I’ll get around to it eventually). Chances aren’t that great that he’s wanting to go back to daytime, but who knows? The Cheetoplague certainly isn’t making it any easier for actors to find work, so if the offer was made, he might think about it, out of boredom, if nothing else.

Imagine seeing the ORIGINAL Eric & Nicole back together… but I wouldn’t bet your soul on it.

Josh Kelly ? ex Cutter OLTL
Chris McKenna ? ex- OLTL , Y&R , B&B

use his salary to bring back Blake Berris.. ALIVE Jade Harlow… there is so much potential to out their.

WE NEED Jenny Bear Salary….. ! FIRE !

now that would be satisfying

Please GH, dont ruin this, sign Greg as Lucky. People will complain that its not JJ. SO WHAT! JJ doesnt want to come back and IF he ever did, it would be with his pal Anthony. So be it. BUT, lets talk about now, Greg needs to come on the show. Laura needs him. The new Nicholas sucks. Spencers need a man around PC! Plus, Greg had really good chemistry with Kelly Monaco. Time to shake up Sam and Jason.

Shake up Sam & Jason?? They haven’t had a moment’s peace since he escaped from Whiny Heiny’s Russian torture chamber, for Hell’s sake!

As far as chemistry with Kelly Monaco, that might actually work better IF Greg came back as Drew Cain. At least Sam & Drew have history (albeit originating from a false pretense) and a kid together. The fact that she was ever with “Lucky” was just another example of how Greg’s version of that character bore very little resemblance to Luke & Laura’s kid, who only ever truly loved one woman. (And for the love all that’s unholy, I wish he would get back to Port Charles and get her away from Frodd! )

If there’s going to be any sort of “triangle” with Sam & Jason, it’s not at all conceivable that she would go back to Lucky (assuming Greg as Lucky) at this point, but feelings for Drew would be completely understandable.

For the Days fans reading this who might not be up to date on the GH stuff… just think of the Roman/Marlena/John clusterfuck from the early 1990s. It would be essentially the same deal… except Roman & John weren’t actually brothers. (though with all the 666 different rewrites of John’s backstory, it’s hard to remember if they ended up being actually related or not on some level)

Sorry to see him go ,but good luck in whatever decides to do.

Loved him as Lucky, paired with Elizabeth. Never watch days.
