Jeffrey Vincent Parise Returns To General Hospital As Dr. Joe Rivera!

Courtesy/ABC

On-Air On-Soaps along with many General Hospital fans were hoping that the powers-that-be at the ABC daytime drama series would find a way to keep fan favorite Jeffrey Vincent Parise alive and kicking on our screens after finally killing-off his alter-ego, Carlos Rivera.

First, we had Carlos back in visions taunting Anna (Finola Hughes) and Julian (William deVry), but this week fans learned the ultimate plan.  Pull out the old twin plot device and bring Parise back as Carlos’ brother, and that is what they did!

Viewers were introduced to Parise’s new incarnation as Dr. Joe Rivera as he comes to the door at the Quartermaines and reconnects with Sabrina (Teresa Santiago).  It is clear from Sabrina’s introduction of him to a leery Michael (Chad Duell) that she knew Joe way back when  confirming the twin story is true.   She also dated the guy.  And to boot, what is Joe by profession? A pediatric surgeon!  He could definitely help in the care of baby Teddy.  Thus, throwing a wrench in the burgeoning romance of Michael and Sabrina.

Upon his re-emergence on to the Port Charles canvas, Parise was flooded by GH fans thrilled to have him back via social media.  Jeffrey sent out this tweet in acknowledgement:  “Once again I’m blown away by the kindness of @GeneralHospital fans. Thank U 4 the warm welcome back! Gonna B a fun ride!

So, what do you think about GH playing the twin card and bringing Parise back to the show? Are you hoping Joe sways Sabrina away from Michael?  Are you excited to have the actor back on the show in a new role?  Are you perhaps a naysayer, who thinks that somehow down the line this could all be a twist, and Joe is really Carlos? I’m thrilled to have Jeffrey back as a new character. He is a stellar actor and brings a great energy to the show whenever he is on. Welcome back, JVP!

OMG, I didn’t know he was coming back until I saw the episode. I wasn’t a huge Carlos fan, but I LOVE me some Jeffrey. Is he like, the best looking guy ever or is it just me? I’m excited to see him back on screen!!

We’ve had so many “long-lost twins” in the past, some good, others not. Any way we can keep an outstanding actor like Jeffrey is just fine with me. Welcome back, JVP, glad you are (hopefully) here to stay for a very long time to come.

Sometimes TPTB do listen! Thank you GH!!

i am thrilled that tptb/writers found a place for jvp – he is such a great actor……………..

I could cry…. I fall in love on these shows

tearful giddy salute

Oh Patrick…what you just wrote is so sweet…cute!

I wonder if he is really Carlos-you know…the twin switch, and maybe Carlos did have some medical training no one is aware of and its his brother Joe who is really dead!!!

You mean like when OLTL’s supposedly murdered pimp Marco Dane switched identities with his priestly bro? Now that was a clever, creative and ultimately, shocking, storyline….this one, however? Not so much….yawn!

Yeah…i agree…no real shocker here…i also seen twin switches on Dark Shadows, Return To Peyton Place, and Days Of Our Lives-all those shows were better at it!!

That’s what I said on another post Jim…it would be too ridiculous, and it wouldn’t get Julian out of a murder charge. I had hoped that Sabrina and Michael would have a shot…which we now know WON’T be happening since enter “the twin” just as Sabrina says she’s “finally getting her happy ending.” “Joe’s presence should send Julian straight to the psych ward…lol, that’ll get him out of jail! Maybe he’ll have an affair with Heather! I see BLT’s in his future…

and there is never ever really any soap happy endings!!!

Yes, Jimmy. Deirdre’s ( Marlena) real-life identical twin, Andrea on DOODL? Yeah. Too easy and too old a tactic.

Please keep him away from Sabrina and Michael! I like Sabichael!

I like those two together, as well, six feet under!

Not far enough!!!-lol

I like them too Phil. Michael deserves to be happy…which is how I felt toward Sabrina too after being ditched by Patrick and losing her baby. I was surprised though when, upon her return, she made it seem like she went with Carlos because she loved him. My recollection was she went under duress…not threat of physical harm…but felt pressured. Also seemed like she loved Michael and didn’t want to leave him. There was no mention of this when she returned, which would have made their “live story” stronger. Seems now like Michael’s feelings are stronger for her than hers for him.

Love, not live, story

really, “strong” post

I will reiterate…. I have grown to adore Sabrina

first and foremost… I will always want more people of color
2ndly… I wanted a relationship with Michael… if this solidified her belong

I’ve made no bones about how uninterested I think the character Michael

lightning struck… not as strong as heat induced or come hither

but a chord of semblance… a chemistry WITH two characters

so yes… for all it’s worth… I like these two characters together…

where else could either of these two go ?

it would seem… and I’m still interested that she and Dr. John could… flirt with togetherness… I LOVED CARLOS passion and love for “his” son and sublime believe in his love for his lady love Sabrina

I know it worked

Sabrina has grown on me
Nathan has grown
Michael is much more interesting with finally at last a pairing that is a sensitive portrayal that he the actor can work with… I buy it

pairing Sabrina with Tracy always helps… anyone

I don’t know… I sometimes think.. the actor who portraits Sabrina… is doing a bang up job

a “Latina” and/or Puerto Rican who is finding her way… I root for her

she has a strong back up going for her… and I do not see it as trying tiresome or lack

so… for all it’s worth… Sabrina w/Michael… just like : dante/lulu, maxie/Nathan

go their

Thanks Patrick. i always liked Sabrina. She was sort of like Emily. Sincerely sweet; no ulterior motive which some had accused her of when she was with Patrick. She was supposed to be a stark contrast to Britt who was the gorgeous bitch…Sabrina the mousey nurse with a heart of gold. The problem is even though I like her they STILL haven’t evolved her into someone I feel connected to or look forward to seeing in an episode. On the other hand the show needs balance and it has very few truly good people. Michael and Sabrina, IF allowed to develop, could be a hot chocolate on a cold, winter day. Lol…a comfort couple. Home and hearth couple with baby makes three. They could continue living with Tracy and Monica, Dylan…and start bringing people to the house again. Sabrina, like Emily before her and Lila before her could be the ” heart” of the Q house if Michael took his rightful place in the Q family and they got married.

I always liked Michael. The original, adorable little red-headed actor who was the Spencer of his day…to this adult Michael. First, I think he’s good looking. And honest, sincere, compassionate, loyal. He’s just one of the good guys, untainted, miraculously considering his manipulative mom and mob “dad.” Of course I’m beyond pissed that he forgave Sonny AND Carly with what they did to AJ…the murder of course but EVERY rotten thing they did to him. There should still be some visible conflict in Michael even as he continues a relationship with Carly and Sonny. There should still be inner turmoil…

I agree about Ryan Paevy/Nathan. I think his acting has improved tremendously. I like the actor and the character.

I am thinking that he is Carlos. Kevin Collins, Grant (can’t remember his name), were twins posing as each other in the past on GH. No one stats dead on GH!

I am stunned at this turn

a revelation of cast aplomb and let the show begin

he’s so much FUN
he’s so intriguing
he’s so dashing
he’s so sense of humor

he will go wherever he should

he melds that well with the whole cast

what a dream

Thank “you” General Hospital / ABC / Disney

Sincerely

this man is a KEEPER

He is a keeper! He’s a fabulous actor. He could be paired with anyone on the show & make the scene better. That’s a rare quality for any actor, so kudos to GH for figuring out what a loss they had with Carrrrrrrlos’s demise.

for a long…. long while… every other post of mine included JVP Talent

Mr. Carlos – NOW – Dr. John Rivera

let the dance begin with his charisma

he’s “fine”

Patrick…Love having Jeffrey back. Yea! As a paediatric doctor maybe he can also help Carly on her search for Joss’s donor. BUT…I couldn’t help sense an undercurrent about him. We don’t want “John” to be too squeaky clean , do we?

LOL

absolutely

there has to be some menace to machismo his MOVE

i’m giddy reading all the posts

whenever I’ve read his stuff in SOD… or whathaveyou

it’s really endearing to read how .. he genuinely cares about this craft as an art form

I’m happy he’s happy to be in this genre

Hey, Rose.
You’re such a nice person. I really don’t care about the Joss kidney story. Proverbial needle in a haystack?
The only way this story would turn my head would have to be something astronomically out of this hemisphere. Who is the donor….someone we could never have imagined? Let’s see; Sonny? Another gold medal to add to his lapel and more fodder for his already swelled head.
As far as Joe, I agree. He has that aura of mystery which is so typical and ‘familiar’ to soaps. I think he is still in love with Sabrina. Carlos ‘stole’ her from him. Now, there is another obstacle…Michael.
But, I think jimh may have a great point; that is, Joe was Carlos and vice versa.

Celia I see merit in Jimh’s suggestion as well. Maybe thats why I sensed something under that calm demeanor. No one can account for all of Carlos time, where he’s been, and who he saw. So a real cameleon?

I’m back to take credit again…hey, we all do it! 🙂 I said on a previous post Joe might be Carlos! Not sure what I believe which is half the fun, but the thought immediately came to mind. Either way he’s probably trouble.

I know you always make sense, Rose. And, if truth be known, I felt the same undercurrent. But, not in a bad way…only that he wants Sabrina.
Then, again….the possibility that Joe and Carlos are one and the same, is the elephant in the room. There is that!!!

And, Rebecca. I see nothing wrong in taking credit. You did say this first. It is what it is.
Just as I will, eventually, take credit if Naomi is, indeed, Liz’s mother. I said it first. LOL.

Celia, Rebecca, & others…Isn’t it nice when we can all have a chance to be brilliant once in a while?!?

Yes Rose, it is! We’re actually brilliant all of the time. We just proclaim it every now and then. 🙂

Thanks CeeCee, but if it doesn’t turn out that way, I’m going straight to denying I ever even thought it! 🙂

What do you mean, once in a while? I am always brilliant! HaHa!!!!
I need your feedback, Rose. I am just joshin’, Rose. The camaraderie on these boards is the best thing, guys!!

He has more lives then a cat!

Sorry but, this was pointless. Especially since Dr. Joe just doesn’t make any sense. There was never any kind of mention of him existing, and it doesn’t paint Sabrina is a good light. And if you’re going to create secondary characters for people like JVP or third/fourth ones for ME, then how about other former cast members who fans loved? Why aren’t they being offered new roles?

It was one thing to do it for ME….people clamored for his return from an abrupt, unjust dismissal and the actor was already known for his chameleon-like array of characters from Port Charles past. But this instance is just gratuitous….more about the showrunner’s desire to bring back a favored actor than for the purpose of a justifiable storyline. Given GH’s propensity for look-alikes, perhaps it should be redubbed “Doppelganger Hospital!”

Very well phrased, Shaybelle. I like what you say about the probable reason for bringing Parise back. Not because he fits in a pertaining storyline, but because he is a fan-fave.
I wish it could always be thus….what fans want, fans get.

I wasn’t particularly fond of Carlos but I have to say that I very much like this insanely handsome man being back on the show. If our first glance at him in his new role is an indicator of things to come…keep it coming, Mr. Valentini. Bravo! Welcome back to the show, Mr. Parise!

SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS GREAT ACTOR BACK ON GH…..NICE SURPRISE!!! HOPE HE HAS A GOOD STORYLINE….

There are 3 reasons why I can immediately get behind this new character.

First, Jeffrey is back! He’s a fantastic actor and the show made a real blunder when they killed him off – twice. The only other alternative for Carlos was prison, since the writers seemed so intent on painting him into a corner time and time again, so he would have been off screen anyway.

Second, he’s not a total newbie because he has ties to the canvas, and a history with Sabrina, meaning he’s not some never before heard of long-lost relative. Even though GH used the tired twin plot device, this one works.

And third, he’s a doctor. The hospital staff needs to be boosted now that a serial killer is on the loose, and not with characters like Andre, Amy and Dr. Mayes who no one cares about. Plus, because he’s a pediatric surgeon, I have a strong feeling he’ll somehow be connected to the Josslyn kidney donor story.

This is one of GH’s best casting decisions lately, so I hope things work out better for Joe than they did for Carlos.

As much as I hate the tired twin trope, I too am glad JVP is back! I’m willing it go for the ride on this one n

Awwwww this is good, very good..
luvs Jeffrey Vincent Parise !!!

I do miss all of Carlos’ wild hair, but this guy is the real deal as an actor, so I’m thrilled anyway. NOW can we get rid of Aaron, Andre, Jordan, Naomi, T. J., Parker and her undoubtedly on-the-horizon wife, and especially Claudette? Pretty please.

I support all of your dismissals!

That list should include Hate-den-lol

Me three, Timmm!!!!….Plus Sabs, Teduardo, Nina, Alexis and Hayden!

Yes, yes, and more yes, Soaphound. But, can we wait and see what happens with the Hayden-Lizzie ‘intrigue’ first, before getting rid of Naomi? She’s smack in the middle of this ‘smelly’ storyline.

The only question is just how did she land in the middle???? Did she buy “Baby Rachel” from the almost supernaturally fertile Heather, unbeknowst to Papa Jeff????? (Meaning did Ms. Webber have another child or children under the radar just like with Franco? She supposedly suffered a miscarriage during her second pregnancy with Jeff.) It would seem that twins with Liz being the other child isn’t the answer, or this nuttier than fruitcake character would have been raising the red flag when her son expressed a romantic interest in Elizabeth…..so maybe there is only a half-sisterly link between Hayden and Nurse Webber? Or Naomi had Jeff’s twins and these two are full-on siblings, but then how does Heather enter into the equation??? Perhaps whilst she was participating in her own maternity ward hijinks during the Jason and Franco births, she happened upon Naomi’s own “special deliveries????” It still doesn’t explain Jeff’s past in the equation….when first he left Port Charles, he headed for Nevada, then overseas. Did he meet Naomi in Vegas??? I’m sure whatever scenario is conjured to set up this storyline, it will be as full of holes as most others!

@Shay.
Hey, babes….,
Well, now; this ‘Jeff-business’, as you know, is virgin territory for me. I am assuming Jeff is Lizzie’s Daddy?
LOL, Shay, as soon as Heather entered the ‘equation’, a few thoughts entered my mind….not as sophisticated as yours due to the fact of my limited knowledge……I find myself quite handicapped when many of you get nostalgic and take a trip down memory lane…… yet, I wondered.
If Nutty Hetty did not react to the news that her son is interested in Lizzie is perhaps for the simple reason she had not borne Hayden or Liz. Just speculating here. It is impossible to give a judicious guess on these soaps……so, ultimately we accept whatever is served on our plates.
So many scenatios: Liz and Hayden could be twins, fathered by this Jeff person, as I said. Naomi kept Hayden and gave Liz to the Webers. Daddy Ray was cockooled, and was never the wiser. As the Italians say; he is “cornuto”…. Wearing horns ( when a wife cheats on her spouse).
OR: the women are half-sisters, which would have no bearing on Franco doing the no-no with Liz.
On the other hand, if they are hanf sisters, and Heather did give birth to Hayden ( the father being Ray), then Franco and Hayden are half siblings.
Is it possible Heather ‘gave’ the baby to Ray and Naomi?A reverse situation could be applicable here. HaHaHaHaHa. Now, I am taking this to the utmost extreme……the imagination gallops, Shay. I hope you are following me because I can’t seem to follow myself, LOL.
Nonetheless, there is a definite ‘something’ between Naomi and Heather. Undoubtedly, the storytellers don’t have the plot within their grasp yet. Will it fizzle out like Fluke’s?
Whatever happens, I am just glad to see Heather. She is simply and indubitably a riot to watch.
Accidental pun. Later.

We should wait a minute because you are correct sweetie, Hayden is FINALLY getting interesting courtesy of Liz’s suggested mother. Hayden and Liz can scratch their eyes out and then Sarah Webber rolls into town to put BOTH of them in their places and THEN Richard Dean Anderson reprises his role as Jeff Webber AND HE is connected to Laura. GH is back!!!

@CeeCee…..Well, one can never underestimate Heather’s powers of duplicity….she is a seasoned pro nonpareil! You know, I had another thought about her lack of concern for a Liz and Franco physical pairing….just suppose she really isn’t the Franckenbirth mama after all….since she’s lied about nearly everything else when it suits her purpose, why not the truth regarding this mad artiste’s real origins??? That would clear the way for her to have produced baby Liz (and/or Hayden)…..just a notion! (I’m hoping against that first suggestion….I mean the lovely Liz as Heather’s daughter???? Ohhhh nooooo! Now Hayden, I would believe as this shedevil’s spawn, given she definitely has exhibited similar tendencies!) Honestly, even though I was pretty much privy to all of Ms. Webber’s inspired lunacy during the ’80’s when her antics were heavily featured onscreen, the modern day regimes have already so incorporated major revisionism into the past lives of all our beloved legacy characters that anything is now possible!!!! It seems as though Heather has lived most of her life in the shadows, and has plenty of skeletons in her closet left to unearth! As for the details of Jeff and his Heathers I/II, I had to check online for details, because I never really “knew” them…..perhaps I briefly saw them through some flashbacks, which soaps once heavily utilized—and would be an excellent means of bringing people up to speed today—but I still needed to fact check on specifics about these characters. Even with such information at hand, there are still plenty of major loopholes and lapses left open to interpretation…..and you can bet the showrunners will shamelessly exploit them! Let’s just pray this twisted family tree tale isn’t as convoluted as the “Clusterfluke!”

I guess they thought it would be too soon to bring him back from the dead a second time. So they used the tired twin storyline. Too much! This show is getting ludicrous and I wanted to throw something at the tv when he walked in. Love the actor but enough is enough already. I may have to move on.

How inspired to make him a pediatric surgeon since all the kids on this show are either SORAS-ed or rarely (if ever) shown.

At this point I just hope the show will just keeps adding more and more new characters every week until the credits take up the entire hour (that would be more entertaining than anything Jean and Shelly have on screen these days).

Hilarious!

Awesome News…. loving this new Character and he is looking good 🙂

This actor can say more with his eyes than many can say with pages of lines. He proved that yet again when he stepped thru the door as Joe. Was a huge fan of Carlos and his rolling r’s so I am excited to see how he makes this polished character his own. Glad to hear the higher ups listened to the fans!

Love him and happy he us back.in this awesome new role, I just do not want Sabrina and Mike break up I love them 2 together.

Thank you, FV! I am so happy that Jeffrey is back. He is a superb actor and will be a great addition to the GH family as a character who has a chance of actually sticking around! Jeffrey, could you and Teresa make up a new song about Dr. Joe? I loved the old one about Carlos! Welcome back!

i hate carlos, so please don’t let this be a plot twist down the line where its reveal that he’s indeed carlos, i’m like joe or better yet, DR. Joe, so lets not turn this into a cheesy plot twist on top of and old twist,( twin thing) so far everything is playing out great let him be a doctor, and now we can have him budding heads w/ the other doctors, griffin and Finn, we need female doctors by the way.

I love a greaseless cleaned up Carlos. He looks like a shiny new penny. Lol

I laughed the first time… your post.. and I continue to

from the very start… their were posts that …. were under duress that Carlos needed a bath a shave a mobbed up henchman that just would not do

LOL

lets go that 180

come full circle

Jeffrey Vincent Parise with full scrutiny REELED in spotlight

with the cast on his own shared the screen

and yes… character actors are that much better brighter and “shiny”

love him don’t you

Joe Rivera alright for now. Maybe he’ll give Michael and Sabrina something to do.

I don’t care if they used an old staple—I’m just glad the actor is back because he really is good. Always fun to watch.

Love having J back. Hope Michael finds someone more his age to love. Think Sabrina would be better with J.

Sabrina would be better with a pair of cement crocs!

@Timmm….I second that motion!

Yes, pooki. I agree. As, I am sure, so will Shay. She abhors Sabrina’s interloping and mingling with the mightily colossal, aristo-cats, THE Quartermaines. LOL.
Did you used to watch PASSIONS, pooki? I do think that was Rebecca’s ( Andre Evans) pet name for Julian (Ben Masters).
As crazy and ridiculous that soap was, I truly loved it!!

I have a funny feeling they’re just recycling the Ava/Denise storyline from last year. I feel Carlos somehow paid one of doctors to make it look like he was dead, and then said he came back as his “twin brother” so he can get the upper hand on Julian.

I hope Joe kills Sonny and Julian but it won’t happen and I don’t think Joe is Carloooooooos!

Enough of this guy already! There are so many underused characters now and this one keeps coming back over and over. Somebody listen and bring back Ian Buchanan!

No, FV has HIS favorites and that’s who we are stuck with!

I dont know if he is really Carlos but Parise is an outstanding actor!

So many things can be done here. Number 1: reveal that Carlos and Jienare lily’s Rivera’s brothers and let Sonny feel terrible about how he treated Carlos.
Number 2: have Joe ask Sonny to seek revenge on Julian. Sonny agrees due to guilt even though he knows this will anger Micheal.
Number3: John and Alexis. I know seems off, but i dunno i think it could work. If not Alexis, have him paired with Claudette!!
Any other ideas out there?

Love that Jeffrey is back BUT that means more Snorebrina!

With a bit of luck, maybe Dr. Joe will “surgically remove” Sabs and son by taking them all back from whence they came…..she always wanted to snag a doctor, so now here’s her chance!

Edwardo, what a freakin joke! Edward is spinning and spinning! He is NOT Michael’s kid! Edward hated Sonny and would NEVER accept this thug as a grandson!

Best news of the week! Handsome, excellent acting skills, charisma galore! What a treat to see him when he was at the door!
Really don’t care what plot device would have been used to bring him back, just glad they had the sense to not let this talented guy get away!
Would be neat to see if he has a little bit (just a teeny bit) of a darkside to contend with.
Bravo GH executives!!

“… What a treat to see him when he was at the door! ”

I was floored

RIGHT ON post

I would really like to see the characters that are on the canvas develop. I was never a big Carlos fan and really don’t think Michael fits in with this story very well. Just my opinion. =) Have a great day friends.

I am so sick of the bring back the dead with a twin that I been throwing up ever since I saw Joe!!!!!!!!!!! KILL HIM OFF TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, “Grantlover!” By the way, are you referring to “Grant Putnam/Andrews?”

Oh come on. That’s all I have to say.

I am so glad GH found a way to bring Jeffrey Vincent Parise back. I think he’s an awesome actor and he’s quite good-looking, as well. I’m not bothered by the ‘unknown twin’ storyline – it’s no more unbelievable than a lot of other storylines on all the daytime ‘dramas’. I loved the character of Carlos with Sabrina, so I’m hoping that chemistry continues with Joe and Sabrina. I find Sabrina to be a bit boring, but she came to life when she was with Carlos. I’m not a fan of her and Michael together, so bring on Sabrina and Joe!

I am THRILLED to have Jeffrey Vincent Parise back! I screamed out loud when Joe came to Sabrina’s door! I really had to do a double take when he came on to see if it was the same actor! His whole aura had changed! But where did he go? What a tease!

I was pleasantly surprised. It was a surprise when Carlos’ ghost popped up in Julians room, and then to see jefferey again when sabrina opened the door. Great they brought him back, and loved they voice, look change too.

Never been in love with Michael and Sabrina tho… not even a like.

John J. York Back at General Hospital

On Friday, May 10th, General Hospital fans received some wonderful images and news. John J. York who has played the beloved Mac Scorpio on the ABC daytime drama series is back at work and taping all-new episodes of the show.

“Mac is back!” read the General Hospital social media post hashtag. John is pictured with longtime leading lady, Kristina Wagner and in other pics with Wagner, along with his TV son, Josh Kelly.  York has played the younger brother of Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) since 1991.

Previously, York announced he was taking time off from GH to undergo treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple smoldering myeloma (two blood and bone marrow disorders). This included chemo treatments, finding a blood doner match for  blood stem cell transplant and more.

Late in 2023, York shared an update on his health on social media. At that time, John expressed, “(Things) are actually going along very well. I’m still in the middle stages of everything.” He added, “I’m feeling really good. Hopefully, hopefully, things go the way they are, maybe be back on the show late spring, early summer.

York’s return pics were greeted with wonderful excitement from his GH co-stars on the Instagram post, including  co-stars Finola Hughes (Anna) and Cameron Mathison (Drew).

Michael Fairman TV is wishing John well, and thrilled to see he is back at work.

(INTERVIEW) William deVry Talks on His Roles in Hallmark’s ‘A Whitewater Romance’, New Film ‘Pocket of Hope’ and His Time on the Soaps

For soap favorite, William deVry life-after-daytime has been reinvigorating, filled with new projects and new directions. This Saturday, May 11th he can be seen in the latest rom-com from Hallmark, A Whitewater Romance (8pm ET/PT) starring Cindy Busby as Maya and Ben Hollingsworth as Matt who play intense business rivals, and featuring Will as Jim Burdett, set against the backdrop of the outdoors and Canada.

In addition, Wil has been busy prepping other projects in which he is executive producing and starring including: Colt & McQueen and Christmas in Bordeaux, and producing and starring in a very dramatic departure for deVry, as the lead in the new true-life story feature film, Pocket of Hope.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with Wil to get the lowdown on his latest and upcoming roles, his expanding career aspirations, and to get his reflections on his three main soap roles: Julian Jerome on General Hospital, Storm Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful and Michael Cambias on All My Children. Read on for what deVry has been up to of late and his reflections of the past.

In A Whitewater Romance, you play the character of Jim Burdett, tell me about him?

WIL: My character runs this whitewater rafting company and the deal is that there’s a corporate retreat that is organized at my company. Jim is sort of old school. He’s been running the company for quite a lot of years. Jim’s not social media savvy. In the story, Maya and Matt get there, and they end up obviously enjoying themselves at this corporate bonding retreat. They discover that Jim was going to close down the company. He stayed open specifically to accommodate this corporate retreat. And then, of course, Cindy Busby’s character, and Ben Hollingsworth character do this little online thing for Jim and get business booming. Before he knows it, the entire summer is booked with clients and they basically saved his company. It’s a feel-good movie with beautiful, stunning locations.

And, are you a good guy in this?

WIL: It’s almost like, wait!  Will is playing good guy? It’s funny because our director, Jason Bourque knows I’ve been playing bad guys for so long. Even the Christmas movie that I did with Terry Hatcher, Christmas at the Chalet, I went through such an arc. My character was so focused in his business and kind of unhappy because he was living his life for other people, and you don’t really realize that you might be slightly unhappy because you don’t take time to do inventory for yourself. In A Whitewater Romance, Jason had this idea that I was this really kind of ‘happy-go-lucky’ guy. And by the second day of shooting, he goes, “I think maybe Jim is a former military …” We both laughed because it was a subtle joke, because you know, I can be a little bit serious.

Photo: Willdevry

How was it to work with Ben and Cindy?

WIL: Great. Cindy being a lead, they set an example for everybody. Cindy is so low key and very friendly, and basically the trailer door is open if you want to discuss anything. Ben was also a producer on this. He might have had a little more stress on him than just sort of acting. But honestly, you couldn’t tell. Both of them had a good sense of humor. I would work with either one of them in a heartbeat again.

You have some exciting news to share; as you are about to be the lead in a new film?

WIL: Yes, I’m the lead in a new film called Pocket of Hope. It’s based on the true story of Chad Gaines, and I am playing Chad. It’s a beautiful movie. It’s in the present day with Chad talking with his daughter. He’s always been reluctant to share his past with her, and because there was a lot of trauma involved, he didn’t really want to put her through that. She’s no longer a young lady and so he feels now is the time to share that. There are a lot of strong flashbacks in the movie. It goes back between the past and the present, which I think is really engaging. The budget is well over a million dollars. We start filming at the end of May in Los Angeles, and then we will go on location in August to shoot the remaining scenes.

Courtesy/Willdevry

How do you feel about tackling a dramatic role such as this with tough subject matter?

WIL: It’s a heavy-duty role. There’s a lot of responsibility. I’ve prepared my whole life for these kinds of roles. It’s really exciting to play a true life individual, who has a story to tell. I think it’s a great honor for me and for the director/producer David Kohner Zuckerman, as well. David is wanting to do Chad’s story justice. We’ve got a good team for this. Robert Altman Jr’s, Cora Atlman, is playing my daughter. When you find a troupe that you like to work with and you can collaborate with, you stick together. So, we have David, as I mentioned and also Deran Sarafian, who is consulting on the project. Deran and I have been working on my other project together, Colt & McQueen. We are the luckiest people in the business right now to be working with Deran. He has had a lot of successful pilots that he’s done for Fox, ABC, and NBC and also Marvel and Netflix shows. He was also a producer on House for Fox.

In Colt & McQueen, you play a former LAPD detective, right?

WIL: Correct. He was basically dishonorably discharged for something that he didn’t do. He is going be trying to clear his name of any wrongdoings. However, in order to make a living, he sort of does these unsanctioned assignments for the captain of the LAPD, who is also on his way out. He’s a good guy. Kin Shriner (Scott, GH) is in it and he kind of plays a man of the streets who goes by “The Professor.” Rebecca Staab (Elizabeth, Port Charles, et al) is in it, and she plays the character with the code name “Leather Jacket” within the LAPD system. We go into production on it in July.

You’re doing your own projects now. That must be liberating in some ways and harder in others.

WIL: I just said, “Look, if I’m going to stay in this business, I have to have some control over my career now as opposed to just auditioning blindly.” That can be a frustrating process. I am learning a lot because I’ve never produced before or executive produced, but the effort is there, and the will to do so is there.

Speaking of projects, you have another one you are working on, a romantic comedy called Christmas in Bordeaux. What is the theme of that one?

WIL: It’s a tale of family traditions, renewed passions, for love and life and spiritual and cultural awakenings. Finding value in the time we have left. And of course, a happy ending for all involved.

As an actor, when you finally get to the point where you get to act you probably really enjoy that. It’s just the challenges of all the things it takes to get there that can be daunting for a performer.

WIL: As an actor, you have to be so good and so comfortable and embrace the rejection. The rejection has to feed you. It can’t defeat you. However, I kind of do take everything personally. If a casting director doesn’t want to bring me in for something that’s their prerogative. I don’t really get angry about it, but I take it personally because I kind of feel like, they should bring me. I can’t just sit back and accept my fate based on other people’s ideas of what I’m capable of or not capable of. Sometimes my resume is a benefit, and sometimes it’s a detriment. It’s up to me to change the narrative.

What would you want to say to the GH fans who had been so supportive of you through the years?

WIL: It blows me away how loyal they are, and their passion. I want them to be of aware that. I’m excited to work for myself, and if that doesn’t work out, I am very comfortable going on to do something else with my life. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) and I had talked about it at one point, and how she absolutely loves the business. I have other things that interest me and move me. I hope every single fan of Julian Jerome comes along on this journey with me.

Looking back, do you think your best role on the soaps was Michael Cambias on All My Children?

WIL: I think with Michael Cambias that All My Children destroyed the character. I sat down with the executive producer at the time, Jean Dadario Burke, and she said, “You’ll be here as long as you want. We did a focus group and you’ve got a 96% approval rating. That’s through the roof.” Two days later, I was called back into her office as they had fired the head writer. I was told Megan McTavish was coming back and they were going to make my character irredeemable, which as everybody knows, Michael Cambias went on to do horrible things to Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) family and then he was off the show.

Then, you went on to portray Storm Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful and the heartbreaking suicide storyline which saved Katie’s (Heather Tom) life, but cost Storm his.

WIL: Storm had a lot of potential. When you’re going through such a beautiful, heart-wrenching, horrific story like that, I wanted to give the audience a lot of credit. Soaps have a smart audience. I wanted them to go on the journey with me. I didn’t want to ruin it for them by playing the problem. I didn’t want to create the drama before it was time to pay the price, if you know what I mean. I allowed it to play out on-screen without any foreshadowing. I think that’s why it worked and that’s why it broke everybody’s heart, and I think that’s why it won a Daytime Emmy for Best Drama Series. Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer, B&B) trusted me with a vehicle that ended up being the Ferrari for that year. I’m eternally grateful to him.

Do you ever check out General Hospital nowadays to see how your old castmates are doing and what is happening in Port Charles?

WIL:  I like to check in. I like to see what Kin Shriner (Scott) is up to, and I like to see who’s showing up and who’s going. I like to see Maura West (Ava) who is such a terrific actress and who played my on-screen sister. We had such a good working relationship and I hope she is on the show forever.  I was happy with my eight years on the show. I knew for 18 months it was time for me to leave. I knew in my heart the character was done. Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) was thrilled with how I left the show. Those six and a half years on General Hospital were a lot of fun. I really loved going to work.

So, will you be watching William deVry in ‘A Whitewater Romance’ this weekend on Hallmark? What do you think about his upcoming projects and roles? Miss him on daytime? Comment below.

GH’s Kin Shriner Remembers Jackie Zeman on the One-Year Anniversary of Her Passing

Today on May 9th, marked the one-year anniversary of the death of Jackie Zeman, who for 45 years played the iconic nurse Bobbie Spencer on General Hospital.

Jackie passed away at 70-years-old from cancer and leaves behind her two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey, and all of her enduring fans, and of course. her GH co-stars and dear friends.

Perhaps, her dearest friend was Jackie’s longtime co-star Kin Shriner (Scott) where for years they shared stories on-screen as Bobbie and Scott, and off-screen developed and cultivated an unbreakable bond.

Michael Fairman TV spoke exclusively to Kin Shriner to get his thoughts and his memories of Jackie on what is for him and many, a sad and heartbreaking day.

Kin expressed: “It does not seem like a year. I think of Jackie every day and every day. I am approached often as an ambassador to the old days. Every day somebody talks about the heyday of General Hospital bringing up Bobby, Scotty, Luke, and Laura. And it always saddens me because I know that Jackie would still want to know that the fans still love that period of time and we miss her, and I miss that. I don’t get to come in and have a scene with her again, ever. So, it’s all sad and I can’t believe that it’s a year.

When asked what does he think Jackie’s legacy is, now reflecting on her passing a year later, Kin shared, “Her legacy is that It she changed daytime television in the seventies. She was the catalyst that came into General Hospital and created Bobbie Spencer from the wrong side of the tracks, the fiery firecracker woman that she was.”

Shriner added on their deep connection, “Jackie brought it all to the screen and she brought it to real life. She raised two great kids, and was a spitfire of a woman and someone that I enjoyed being around from the day we met to the day she died, I was in her life, and she was in my life. We went through a lot together, you know, ups and downs, and it’s just sad that she’s not here anymore.”

Share your thoughts to Kin’s words on the loss of Jackie Zeman via the comment section below, and also your thoughts that is has already been a year since we lost this daytime icon.

Coming up, make sure to watch Kin and many other stars from the soaps on the Michael Fairman Channel’s very special livestream event Daytime Stands Up  in conjunction with The Locher Room and Stand Up To Cancer on Thursday May 16th from 8 pm ET/5 pm PT.
