When CBS Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs, CBS Entertainment, Angelica McDaniel started off Tuesday with a tweet stating it was a “Big Day”, fans on social media did not know what was about to go down.

But it was a major day indeed for Angelica and the shows of the CBS Daytime programing line-up of: The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Talk, The Price is Right and Let’s Make A Deal.

The Los Angeles City Council proclaimed September 20th as “CBS Daytime Day” in honor of the network’s accomplishments for being 30 years consecutively as the number one daytime network.  CBS ended the full 52-week 2015-2016 broadcast year again at the top, a position it has held since 1986.

On hand for the Los Angeles ceremony today were Y&R stars, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and Kristoff St. John (Neil), along with Y&R and B&B co-creator, Lee Phillip Bell, as well as B&B cast members, Don Diamont (Bill) and Heather Tom (Katie), plus ‘Price is Righ’t host, Drew Carey.  Watch the news segment via CBS Los Angeles here.

McDaniel shared in a statement: “This winning streak is an incredible source of pride for all of us at CBS. It speaks to three decades of great storytelling from the best creative artists in front of and behind the camera, and the amazing support from a very passionate and loyal fan base.”

For the soaps in the CBS line-up 2015-2016 broadcast season, Y&R retained its title of daytime’s most watched drama, with 5.20 million viewers, and highest-rated in the key womens demos of  25-54 (1.8) and women 18-49 (1.2).  And its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful ranked second among daytime dramas viewers with 3.96 million viewers and women 25-54 (1.5).

CBS soaps anyway, way way way overrated ! #Baffled

give the benefit of a doubt

when Billy Miller and Michael Muhney left or were erroneously fired… their final scenes aired January, 2014

which is ALMOST 3 YEARS AGO

Y&R has never recovered

save for Justin Hartley… and that’s out of sight out of mind

Y&R is #1. Muhney is unemployed. Hunter King has two jobs,. Daytime and Primetime. That’s the rreality. Divine order.

———- Question;

How many soaps were there during the past 30 years?????

And- was there not one, not one, that was better than Y&R during 30 yrs, if even for a year?.

Why has there never ever been another soap at the top?
Why has there not ever been 2 years out of 30 that another soap was on top?

Last question;
What are the odds during 30 years of many soaps not one was ever atop of Y&R, for even a year or two? what are the odds .

List of U.S. daytime soap opera ratings, wiki ( type in )

gives every listing and ratings of every serial

WOW

gobsmacked to the gills

As The World Turns… turned an reigned for quite a NUMBER @ #1. YES

which is my only #1 soap… evah

you could clearly see the reign… of GH in the 80s
and yawn… nevertheless… groan Y&R took

so… YES… @su to not quite answer your question… but the whole enchilada and cake

my DAYS had it’s best years… (ratings wise ) from 1995 -2003 always in the top 3

but– the fact is;
During 30 years only Y&R was #1 ..
No other soap in 30 years was #1, not even once, not even for 1 year.
Y&R holds the record of being #1 for 30 years.

what are the odds of that… huh

oltl was great in its final year and with ratings up-had it not been cancelled it might had hit number one!!!

I think the last soap that was #1 was Days when Jack and Jennifer got married.

Fabulous episodes. Still some of my favorite.

The first time they got married. 🙂

Congrats.

I don’t think the CBS soaps have really been number 1 for 30 years. I just think even when the soaps weren’t good, people watched out of habit.

There were certainly times when Another World, Santa Barbara, One Live to Live, General Hospital, and Days of Our Lives deserved to be number 1, but weren’t. Only naming soaps I’ve watched.

The numbers are more accurate now than they’ve ever been because we have reall time counts and real reporting instead of extrapolation and polling. GH is my favorite but, Y&R is numer one. It’s not debatable. It’s just the truth.

I’m not debating the numbers. I meant, substance–I don’t think CBS soaps have been the best soaps for 30 years straight.

Let’s not forget CBS DAYTIME has been number one for 30 years– in those 30 years there were other soaps on that network that help them achieved that feat– it wasn’t all just Price is Right, Y&R and B&B–

REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.

The Michael Fairman Channel spoke with Nicholas Chavez for a virtual interview when he first joined the show in 2021, and spoke to him right after when he won the Daytime Emmy in 2022 – you can see those below.

No word yet on when Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story will debut on Netflix, but it is assumed later this year.

Currently, CBS Studios is developing a reboot starring Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton. But what is Dr. Peter Burns were to show up alive?

As those who saw the end of the original MP know, Peter and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and then tied the knot with Peter on a beach, supposedly in a “happily ever after” scenario.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Wagner expressed, what we all know who watch the soaps, that no one is never, ever really gone for good. Jack expressed, “You never really die on a soap, right? How they unfold those two characters (Peter and Amanda), it’d be fantastic how they sort of tell that story.”

Wagner added, “That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I’m asked to come back, I’d absolutely entertain that.”

Photo: Fox

The original Melrose Place aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. The story featured the residents of an apartment complex, whose lives were intertwined. Eventually Wagner and Heather Locklear dated fro 2007-2011.

As previously reported, the new Melrose Place share that some of original neighbors and friends reunite after a death. The loglines add, “The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you like to see Jack Wagner return as Dr. Peter Burns on Melrose Place, or Frisco Jones on GH, or both? Comment below.
