The Young and the Restless has hired Michael Mealor to take on the role of Jack’s (Peter Bergman) son, Kyle Abbott.

According to Soap Opera Digest, he will debut when Kyle returns to Genoa City during the show’s 45th anniversary week of March 26th.

dont get it,,never understood what happened to blake hood,,,

He had a voice like Rocky the Squirrel

Boes, you say that like it’s a bad thing.

LOL, Boes….Blake had a strong resemblance to Peter ( Jack)….but, yes…you’re too funny and right !!!!
That voice did him in….
Just as Harry’s comment (above) did me in….without fail….Oh, my Lord!! Cracking up.
Aside–what’s up with Phyllis?…is she tired of Billy already? What the heck is she preaching about?….the irony of anything justifiable coming out of her mouth BITES!!
How is she ‘better’ than Sharon? How soon we forget….

My sentiment exactly. Jill Farren Phelps happened to Blake Hood, he wasn’t one of her picks. I am really enjoying what Mal Young is doing with the show. I recognize characters again, Nikki, Sharon, Lauren, Ashley, Jack, even Phyllis. I hope he continues, and I’d like to see Kyle written in a worthy storyline.

I liked Blake. He had kind of a Michael J. Fox thing going on.

I liked him, too, Timm. Maybe he was a threat to someone at the time. But at least they’re bringing back a character that could make the boardroom, not just the bedroom, more compelling.

Jill Farren Phelps fired him

Let’s hope the mix of actor and story works this time. Kyle abbot should be a strong character on the Genoa City landscape. There so few third generation Abbotts. We have Abby and Kyle in play now. Is Keeno still alive? Of course, Colleen is deceased. Summer was determined to be a Newman after all. Let’s do this!

Oh Lord please don’t bring back Summer!

Wonder who he will be paired with now that Summer is gone, maybe a Summer recast in the works.

Maybe, Faith will be sorased, Karen.

i think Summer is coming back.

Hope not. She would put anyone to sleep.

Well, well, well! I just wish that they’d hired Blake Hood back for the role.

me too… w re now on our 4th kyle… should ve gone back to the best which was the very 1st, Blake hood. Clearly the recasts are’nt working!
i hope the show commits to a young generation story.
say what you want but i really enjoyed summer and austin. that was the last time the show invested screentime with the young characters! was really hoping for a mariah/ austin/ summer triangle back then. lol. but then it turned into the scooby murder mystery. ..oh well

this show has had so many Kyle’s. i hope this one works

The character of Kyle Abbott is the new version of Tom Hughes from the cancelled ATWT. Before Scott Holmes started playing Tom in the very late 80s, at least 10 actors had played this son of two prominent show characters who were played by the same actors for decades.

I really think the constant recasting of Kyle, Abby, and Noah over the past decade has not done the show any favors. These characters are the “next” generation of the main families. The show needs to find an actor for the each part, keep them employed, and give them their own identity/plots. Otherwise, where exactly will the Newmans and Abbotts be in 10 years? (75-ish year old Victor; 65-ish Jack; and 65-ish Nikki won’t all be on the show as major characters in ten years).

I know nothing about this guy. I hope that he works. However, I thought the two the last three actors (Hood & Buchanan) were fine in the part but neither actor was giving any time or any plot opportunity to establish themselves. Let’s hope that this one is given a real chance in the part.

(I know that the current actress playing Abby has been with the show for roughly 5 years. However, the writers have given the poor woman NOTHING to do. During this time, Abby’s personality basically has been a blank slate — other than her poor choices of romantic partners).

Better news would be the show not hiring anyone else until they have some actual stories for the actors they already have.

Agree with you, stories are very boring.

Agree again with you Alan…I respect all viewpoints but I cannot understand those who think Mal Young is good for Y&R, IMO he is destroying Y&R with his type of writing…

Well said

amen to that. this show can’t even write for who they have now. the show is pretty weak right now on the storytelling

I Would have preferred Blake return. This guy is handsome. If he can act and they have a story, go for it!

He’s darling. Give him a break, surely the show knows what they are doing good luck Michael,!

Yawn….. I’d be more interested in Jack’s son Keemo making a return to Genoa City.

Peter Bergman won’t allow that he has made it well known Keemo never happened. I would like for him to have a wild affair with Hilary and stomp that little twit Devon in the dirt be a womanizer that is what Jack was when he started on the show.

Kyle Abbott is to Y&R what Kevin Buchanan was to OLTL

And what Joey Martin was to AMC.

And what Jamie Frame was to AW.

And what Marah was to GL.

Does Jack ever even mention Keemo? Wouldn’t it be a cool story if Keemo’s kids turned up to live with Grandpa Jack?

I’ve always felt it was important to develop the younger cast and next generations of the main families– as well as introducing new families. I remember when Y and R brought in Tricia and her sister (Meghan, I think.) It added a new development into the story for Nina and Ryan. By the way, the Tricia character is one I’d love to see back in Genoa City.

As for Kyle– time for big stories. I can see it already: Tessa or Mariah.

My point: make him a relevant character. Make Abby relevant. Make Mariah relevant. Make Reed relevant. Make the Ashby twins relevant. Make Faith relevant.

I hope he is this time the right cast for the role of Kyle

For now, I’ll just say this: I hope that this Michael Mealor dude is A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over that Lachlan Buchanan dude.

Later.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
