In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking play, Boys in the Band, a limited engagement of the theatrical production is scheduled next year from April 30–August 12, 2018 a the Booth Theatre on Broadway.

The cast will feature none other than former One Life to Live star, Tuc Watkins (Ex-David) and former Guiding Light star, Matt Bomer (Ex-Ben) along with Andrew Rannells, Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, and more.  The play will be directed this time out by two-time Tony winner, Joe Mantello.

The Boys in the Band centers around a group of gay men who gather in a New York City apartment for a friend’s birthday party. As the evening continues, the cracks beneath their friendships begin to show, exposing the self-inflicted heartache that threatens their solidarity.

This production is from none other than Ryan Murphy along with veteran Broadway Producer, David Stone.

In a statement to Playbill, who broke the news of the casting and the revival, Murphy noted:”The significance of The Boys in the Band cannot be underestimated. In 1968, Mart Crowley made theatrical history by giving voice to gay men onstage, in this uncompromising, blisteringly honest, and wickedly funny play.”

Ryan went on to say: “The play was groundbreaking in its exploration of how gay men treated each other and how they were made to feel about themselves. And while some attitudes have thankfully shifted, it’s important to be reminded of what we have overcome and how much further we still have to go.”

Ticket information will be made available forthcoming on how you can get seats to the production if you are in, or set to, visit New York City next year.

The premise sounds really intriguing! And Tuc just seems like the nicest guy on the planet. I wish him lots of success in this production and hope it opens up new opportunities for him (hey, Ryan Murphy has a dozen things he needs casts for. This is definitely Tuc’s ticket in!). With big names like Parsons, Quinto and Bomer signing along too, it’s bound to do well in theaters.

Sounds like a fantastic revival and a just as equally fantastic cast! Bomer is gorgeous and talented; Tus has the ability to take his good looks and use them to sexy perfection or goofy adorability.

Kudos on landing a great role to all the actors…and…on a soap opera note, would LOVE to see Tuc pop in on GH.

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.
