Oprah Winfrey's OWN Buys New Soap From Tyler Perry: "The Haves And The Have Nots"!

Has Oprah Winfrey decided to air a soap opera on her OWN Network?  Well from the sounds of it, no matter how it’s framed, Tyler Perry’s new dramatic series from his Tyler Perry Studios entitled, The Haves And The Have Nots,  will sounds very familiar to soap fans; centering on the the perils and plights of a wealthy family and a family from the poor side of the tracks … something that has been seen on any number of your favorite nighttime or daytime dramas!

According to today, OWN who announced a multi-year deal with Perry to produce and deliver scripted series, just greenlighted two; one this drama and the other a comedy!

The premise of the drama The Haves And The Have Nots is about the dynamics of the affluent Cryer family and the impoverished family of their housekeeper Hanna, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both families.

So soapers, what do you think?  Will you take a look at the new drama from Tyler Perry on OWN? Could this help Oprah change her tune about soaps being an “institution”? Weigh-in!

love Tyler Perry, but I won’t watch………….

if this soap is abt a rich black family then that would be great. there needs to be more racial diversity on soaps and more diverse portrayals of racial minorities. all the daytime soap operas and primetime soaps have rich families that are white. a rich black family would bring a new dynamic. maybe this should be victoria rowell’s comeback vehicle.

Watch the show and then comment. PHENOMENAL!

Oh yes I will weigh in alright.. after she had the nerve to trash many soap fans on YouTube I will never support her stupid shows or network..she’s such a poser.

I’ll have a seat at this table, and I will be right there NOT watching anything that she is associated with, whether it’s a soap or any other type of programming.

Is this seat taken?

I agree with you two and I think you said plenty that I do not need to read any further comments.

Is there room on that table? I couldn’t agree more. She wouldn’t take on AMC or OLTL, but she’ll take on Perry’s crap? Spare me…

May I join you? According to Oprah soaps are dead. Also, I’m not a Tyler Perry fan. I have not, nor will I ever, watch anything on OWN. a complete waste of airwaves.

So true! She couldn’t be bothered with AMC & OLTL! I won’t watch anything involving Doprah! Her channel sucks anyway!

Room for one more at the table? I could swear O said that soaps were a dying commodity – all of a sudden she changes her tune for one of her friend’s soaps. BS!! She’s a phoney – never liked her and now she’s given me even more justification. Hope OWN tanks.

Welel, I wish Oprah the best, but I don’t support her anymore. She had a chance to get two soaps, and she didn’t take it. And as I recall, she told people to stop emailing her, and that if there were another dime to be got out of the shows, they’d still be on (paraphrased). That was a hard time for soap fans, and she didn’t support us or care. So, now? She’s on her own. JMO.

right on! thanks for the scraps Oprah.

I couldn’t agree more. She had no time for us, or the shows we love, so to heck with hers.

When I first read the headline, the words “oh god” came to mind.

I wonder if Madea will have a cameo.

OMG! Madea as the new Viki Riley! or Phoebe Tyler!

Michael – I just wrote this on the FB post, but I’d like to share it here as well.

Oprah has been thinking about getting involved/producing/creating an African American centric soap for close to 25 years. She came to our house when my youngest brother (now 24) was an infant to consult with my mom about soaps. Perhaps, the time has finally come where she’s following through on that dream? (Though I’m not sure about the Tyler Perry component.)

OWN is a cable station that a whole lot of people DO NOT GET. I know she was an AMC fan and she could not SAVE that show..why back another show when sooo many fans want their old one back? Hmm I guess it will be an ethnic program if it comes from Tyler Perry. Sad still miss OLTL a lot!!

Couldn’t get back the soaps we really wanted to on her Own channel.. I guess this soap isn’t an instittution?????? Only AMC & OLTL were. Hmmmmm! Still miss
OLTL also….

Oye! talk about adding fuel to the fire….

wasn’t it said… Oprah said soaps no longer have a future… and it would behoove her to “buy” AMC and/or OLTL… and help her sinking ship?

agree? that, Kudos to Tyler Perry… for his hiring and producing movies for minorities,(which no longer exists? ie: the elections)people of color, should be hired… thats understood…

I hope it does work…. as, soaps/serials… will find an audience, if it’s good.

Tyler Perry… please hire daytime alumni.

Would have been nice if she saved OLTL or AMC but maybe it was bad timing and she wouldn’t have had complete creative control or something .. who knows.. that said, I’m glad that Tyler is even thinking about bringing a soap to OWN and if the cast is worthy of watching, I’d tune in and check it out.
I agree — bring back some daytime faves!

I definately will tune it to see what her show is about….

i just said as much, cause it actually made me think about AMC, being cancelled.

I won’t be watching her channel. I never watch her own channel. And I lost interest in her show on ABC years ago.. Tyler is funny in all but I don’t really want to watch it.

He did Tika Sumpter

LOL she could have saved AMC or OLTL if she wanted a great soap ..
((but she said no, she did not want to have a soap/or whatever, something as that..

AMC and OLTL would have boosted her ratings & her station would have never gone
under like it has…..Oh she didn’t want these kind of shows on her channel(soaps). And that she couldn’t save the soaps(AMC & OLTL). That it wasn’t up to her to do this..She wanted different kind of shows on her station. But these different kind of shows didn’t work…Here we go again she is putting this soap on her channel! Not our beloved soaps..I know people have a right to their own opinions & deceisions they make ,but Oprah did a complete 0ne-eighty and did what she said she wouldn’t do put a soap on her Own channel! Hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!

why she didn’t buy amc ir oltl? she said back than that she will not save the soaps….

You said it !!!!!!!!!!! But yet she is putting this soap on her channel…

Will I tune in? Nope. Soap fans begged Oprah for help to save the genre. She didn’t care about us.
Now she needs us to her t.v. station. Sounds like a PBS rip-off/re-tool anyways.

I will not watch it either………

I like Tyler Perry, and can see where working on a project with him is a mutually beneficial move for both of them, but it is just too bad Oprah was not interested in airing shows of a soap opera nature, when she was asked about One Live to Live/AMC. I am sure that would have brought a whole new audience to her Network, she dropped the ball on that one for sure.

She disregared our beloved soaps AMC & OLTL!!! That still erks my nerves about that whole situation.

Yawn…..I’m so over Oprah! Too late for this horrible excuse of a network….No one, and I do mean, no one cares.

Could not have said it better, Torrey. I removed her channel off of my Direct Tv custom channels-I don’t even know she is still on the air!

oh and she wouldn’t Buy AMC a year ago!

Oprah who?

Whar do you mean Opray who? Opray Winfrey of course!

Oprah said she wanted her network more geared to the African-American audience which is fine. However Oprah told the AMC & OLTL fans NO which is also fine. She makes the decisions and has to live with them. The ratings for OWN are terrible and the talented Tyler Perry’s shows are not going to change them.

Oprah greenlights Tyler Perry, but rejected All My Children and One Life to Live. What the heck?

I don’t understand why any of you are surprised. The reason she bought Perry’s show is obvious! The woman is so racist it’s pathetic. When she turned down OLTL & AMC she turned her back on the very same people who made her who she is. I for one would never have turned on her show if it wasn’t for the fact she followed GH. Well I always say what comes around goes around her station is struggling and will eventually disappear and I hope Oprah will disappear as well.

Yeah, what the heck!!!!!

I don’t think Oprah is racist. She wanted to put her own stamp on the OWN network (Oprah Winfrey’s Network… need I say more?). But, buying OLTL and AMC would have been a good business decision and she wanted to prove that she has knows what will make a network a hit. Having one hit on one network does not mean you know how to guide an entire network with shows ALL geared to empower women. An hour a day, maybe. 24 hours? No. She’s hoping this “hail Mary” with Tyler Perry will rescue her dying network. Sorry. Won’t be tuning in. Shoulda saved my soaps…

I agree with you Mitchell1660….. She goofed major by not buying AMC & OLTL. Yes you need more than a one hit show as you said. I agree this one hit show isn’t
going to help that much. I will NOT be watching either. Her channel could have been
a big success w/AMC and OLTL..She choose not to put our beloved soaps on her
Own channel. She made her bed now, she has to sleep in it. Poor buisness deceision on her part…..Her station will not make it…Plus I NEVER watch the own
channel at all.

I don’t believe that OWN is geared toward the. African-American community, because the majority of her followers have been Caucasian. My beef with her is the statement she made that soaps are dead and we have to accept it. Wow, what a difference a year makes. What happened? Did she read the recent article of the resurgence of soaps and wants a piece of the pie?

I was just mentioning that to a friend of mine. If she would have never made that statement, she might not have lost so many fans….but she opened her mouth and inserted her foot. And for that reason, her network will never succeed.

Never going to watch!

Sorry, Oprah. Too little, too late. I gave up on you when you gave up on us. 🙁

I understand the disappointment of AMC/OLTL fans that Oprah didn’t “save” those shows. But the truth is thode shows were not making money. If they had been, ABC would have kept them on. There is a reason for the term showBUSINESS. That reason is there is a buiness aspect to entertainment. No entertainment executive worth his/her salt will invest resources in something that has been proven NOT to make money, such your beloved AMC/OLTL.

On the other hand, Tyler Perry’s works are PROVEN MONEYMAKERS! Tyler has a LOYAL following that translates into big bucks at the box office and profitable ratings on television shows. So for Oprah, teaming up Tyler (hitching a ride on his bandwagon) is good BUSINESS SENSE, whether or not it offends fans of AMC/OLTL. Good for Oprah!

It is nice to be a loyal fan of a television show, but it is better to be an informed loyal television show fan. Tyler has taken the time to educate his fans about the business aspect of entertainment. He also has been prudent about the costs of (spending money on) show production. His efforts on both endeavors have produce big dividends for him. Maybe if producers at AMC/OLTL had done the same those soaps might still be on the air right now!

Oprah is not responsible for the failure of AMC/OLTL. Nor should she be maligned for not investing in something that was a PROVEN BUSINESS FAILURE. Oprah is not a stupid woman.

It is most unfortunate that the emotions of loyal AMC/OLTL fans are being exploited in such a misleading manner.

More condescending crap. Oprah was built on the daytime audience lead-in and following and she turned her back on the people made her a success. We’re completely informed. We asked Oprah to return the favor by picking up at least of the cancelled soaps and she talked to us like children asking for candy. Without us she’s nothing. We left her and now we see where OWN is today. Nowhere.

Do YOU understand that? That she dumped us? So we dumped her?

This isn’t emotion, it’s business. She didn’t give the people what they want, so no one is tuning in.

What you said, Robert. Amen.

Your reply is a good example of why Prospect Park couldn’t get the financial funding needed to continue AMC/OLTL. You wanted Oprah to pick up AMC/OLTL even if it meant losing money. LAUGHABLE! I am sure that type of attitude provided much encourage to potential financial backers of Prospect Park’s efforts. This is just more evidence that Oprah made the right BUSINESS decision.

BTW OWN is on track to become profitable within five years. Also, investing in projects from Tyler Perry allows Oprah to tap into the wealth known as Tyler Perry fans. This group is so valuable that Tyler Perry was offered the lead role in the ALEX CROSS movie so the producers could tap into that fan base.

Now to respond to the other reply about why OWN has struggled: The Oprah Winfrey Show was syndicated. It had direct access to a larger viewing audience because anyone with a television set could watch tbe show. Not so with OWN. Many cable viewers have to pay additional fees because OWN is not a part of their basic cable plan. For that reason alone it will takeOWN a while to grow to the viewership the Oprah sow had.

Harpo isn’t a start-up like Prospect Park, throwing Oprah behind the idea of keeping soaps alive is probably a more investment worthy idea than PP was. Oprah had the means to do this. Now, if you think all products in a business are front runners in generating profits then you’re laughable. OLTL would have been the reel-in that would have garnered her network 24/7 support from a loyal block of viewers that are proven TV watchers. Take a loss on one, and win on three. PP couldn’t have done that. Oprah could have, and she didn’t and she threw us out with the trash at the same time.

I don’t accept the notion that Prospect Park could not continue AMC/OLTL because it is a start up. That is what start ups do…take those types of risks. The point was that those to whom Prospect Park looked for funding also considered it a bad investment. So Oprah was not alone in her assesment of the situation.

If you choose to hold it against Oprah that she refused to invest her resoures in AMC/OLTL you are certainly at liberty to do. Looks like Oprah may have taken that into consideration the result of which may have included her decision to work with Tyler Perry. With his loyal following, being “dumped” by fans of AMC/OLTL may not negative affect the success of OWN at all. Good riddance to bad rubbish! What a blessing for Oprah!

I’m sorry, did you just call soap fans “bad rubbish”? I think you just clarified my point completely.

Furthermore, if she is such a smart business woman, why is her network failing so miserable? I’ll tell you why…..because when the network started, she did nothing but air reruns of The Oprah Show, Dr. Oz & Dr. Phil…. Rather than taking on at least OLTL….which was continually improving in the ratings, was always under budget & had a stronger fan base than that of AMC, there was no reason for her to not pick up the show. She could have shorten them and made them 30 minute programs, she could have ran them like primetime shows and given them a 3 month break in the Summer….all sorts of options. And I’m not even saying that its her Responsibility to have done this, but when she went online and made that statement, she opened up a can of worms. It would have been better for her to say nothing, than to talk down to the fans that gave her the status that she has today. After that, I cancelled my subscription to her magazine, I have never watched OWN…nor do I plan on watching….I basically have no interests in Oprah at all anymore. She can do whatever she wants with her network, just dont expect the support of the daytime soap watching audience.

Torrey – well said… OWN could have had tons of options…. a loyal following cannot be bought and paid for in this day and age… of technology. I don’t mind commiserating about the cancellations of AMC and OLTL.. i still miss AMC. i’m glad it’s already been said that, because of soaps, Oprah’s lead in shows… she is what she acquired…

i really lost interest in OWN after they cancelled the Rosie O’Donnell show – and this household does watch “Sweetie Pies”. and thats it… so, best of luck to her and Tyler… daytime alumni deserve to be recognized and a BIG part of the television audience… I miss so many of them….

Probably won’t watch. Don’t like the title first of all. Don’t need to add another soap to my schedule. It’ll be interesting to see how it does.

I too think it would be interesting to see if it works. I wonder when they say soap they mean a soap in the classic sense or just a continuing drama. Will it run everyday at one time slot, with one episode per day or will be more like a mini series running a various times throughout the day, because it is cable after all? If it only has a limited number of episode which get repeated over and over day and night then to me that is not a real soap it is just a another series which may or may not interest me.

I too was wondering if it would air five days a week. If it does, it would probably benefit from two airings a day, day and evening, and then some on the weekends. I think OWN is looking for things to fill their schedule so this is one way. I haven’t really seen anything on OWN that lights my fire. She does need a strong show to bring people to the network.

She is such a hypocrite…. First she say’s soaps are a thing of the past and that people
work and can’t watch the soaps REALLY! People have been working for years and so
was I . And this didn’t stop me from watching the soaps. I would record them five days
a week. And watched them when I got home…Those comments she made are bogus!
I like Perry and think he’s funny but I will not watch it…Oprah can’t have it both ways…Put this soap on but not OLTL or AMC! Oh yeah & people have moved on..Maybe
a small percentage have but for the most part there are STILL a lot of SOAP FANS OUT
THERE!!! Including me that still enjoy watching their stories! Again I will defintely NOT
watch this.. In fact I don’t ever watch her Own channel…No cigar!!!!!

Not a big Tyler Perry fan but am glad to hear there will be more racial diversity in soaps. But what has changed since Oprah said the AMC and OLTL didn’t have a big enough audience for her to buy? Oh, right– her network tanked.

A very resounding NO WAY!!!!

I thing the verdict is in and the majority of soap fans will not be watching anything on OWN. Too bad that Ms. O didn’t have the foresight to rescue both or one of the ABC-canceled soaps and streamline them to make them affordable/profitable. Tyler Perry is a talented person, but Ms. O’s callus treatment of soap fans when it mattered is coming back to bite her in the butt. I think they call that karma.

She is probably not dealing with unions etc is why she went this route but I would not get too excited OWN is in a lot trouble staying on the air though I never watched her show ever. People we all know she is very wealthy but it takes a lot of money sponsership etc to keep these shows going. Look DOOL is laying off at least 50 employees production crews etc. I predict in 2 years the only soaps that will be left our the Bell’s. And no I am not trying to be nasty it is just a feeling I get.

I sadly must agree with that prediction and I suspect the Bell soaps would not be too far behind. The genre and format that was set up 50 or so years ago just might be able to survive this changing world. Perhaps if soaps had some interactive element that might get the younger audience involved, but they don’t seem to have the patience, loyalty or desire to support these shows- they like trends, and I guess our old soaps may have go the way of analog televisions sets and bunny ears and become a memo in the history of television as we knew it.

May watch, but I’m not sure. The comments Oprah made about soaps are discouraging…

After she said there wasn’t a dime to be made on soaps I am not interested in her or her new soap. She didn’t have to save OLTL and AMC, she could have said I am starting a new network and am not able to do it, but the way she said it left a bad taste in my mouth. To me it felt disrespectful to the viewers. She rode the back of the soaps for years and many of her viewers watched becasue they were already on ABC. She tries to do a lot of good in the world and I give her credit for that. I am just not interested in her show. It’s like someone talking bad about your mom and then saying…now be my friend!” My answer… uh…No thank you.

Eating your words can be fattening!

First, I would not watch anything on OWN …. partially because I find Oprah arrogant and partially because I don’t want to take the time to hunt down her channel (not even sure our cable provider carries it).

It isn’t clear if this Perry show is a daily or weekly broadcast. If it is weekly I would allow her somewhat of a pass because there is a world of difference between a daily soap and a weekly one. So, her refusal to take over AMC or OLTL would not be changed.

This is the part that gets me:

“OWN who announced a multi-year deal with Perry… just green-lighted TWO; one this drama and the other a comedy!”

She green-lighted TWO shows, not ONE. TWO of them.

How am I suppose to take her seriously when she said something about financial considerations in saving AMC and OLTL? Now she suddenly has money to support a drama AND a comedy. It sounds like she could have easily save one of those shows.

It wasn’t and never should have been Oprah’s job to save any soap opera (One Life/All MyC). People seriously, let that go. If Oprah and Tyler Perry have a vision for a new soap drama, more power to them. It may be a daytime or night time soap and reach out to a new and more diverse audience. It’s amazing how much heat she’s receiving in this blog from so called soap opera lovers. If you want soap operas to make it or even a chance for your old favors to ever return…you should strongly consider supporting this project. When one soap works, it may make it easier for the next one (example…the new Dallas). Nuff Said.

It’s not that it was her job to save AMC and OLTL (I agree, it wasn’t)–it’s the reason she gave for not doing it. She wouldn’t pick them up because soaps had no future (not just those two soaps, but ANY soaps)–and now she’s premiering a soap?

I think people have every right to raise their eyebrows.

At the very least, if she wants to regain some credibility, she needs to explain what has changed her mind in the year since she made that statement (maybe she’s had a revelation, maybe she regrets not picking up AMC and OLTL, or who knows? I’d like to hear and understand her reasons.). If she doesn’t, then people have every right to assign whatever motivation seems most plausible to them–even if it isn’t very flattering to Oprah. She has nobody to blame but herself. She said what she said, and it was widely publicized. Now scarcely a year later she’s expecting people to forget she said it? Not in the Internet age–and not among soap fans, who don’t forget things like that.

Oprah’s comments:

“I understand the loyalty, the sense of disappointment” says the self-proclaimed AMC and The Young and The Restless fan. “But here is the [deep] bone-marrow truth: There just are not enough people who are at home in the daytime to watch them, and because of that they’re going off the air. Citing the steep slope that soap ratings have slid down over the years, Winfrey adds, “I will not be taking on the responsibility of trying to revive an institution that for all intents and purposes indicates the time has come for it to be over.”

Okay, these are Oprah’s words over a year ago. It left some soap opera fans pissed because now she has been inspired (?) by Tyler Perry to launch her own soap opera. First, soap opera fans can form whatever opinion they choose, but this is how I see it.

A person who is a multimillion (may be billion), I imagine makes business decisions based on their understanding, belief and projections from the future. But, they can also make mistakes. Perhaps, a year later, circumstances or her particular situation had changed. Her soap is still in the planning stages and I am sure that she will make future statements about her change in attitude. But the belief that someone must invest their money (fan or not) is absurd.

Finally, I will continue to believe that hollywood follows patterns and is pretty much unoriginal. If any soap opera catches fire, the hollywood power establishment will invest and produce them. If they fail, they will vanish (simple). So, if Oprah/Tyler Perry’s soap opera fails what do you think that will mean for the industry (think about it).

I think before this news, if someone said, “She turned her back on her loyal audience when she wouldn’t pick up AMC and/or OLTL,” I would have replied, “Not so fast; she gave a credible business reason why she wouldn’t do it. I think she’s wrong, but plenty of people in Hollywood agree with her.” Now, however, I think they’ve got every right to wonder what’s up. Apparently it wasn’t what she said at the time–that the time had come for soaps to be over–because here she is helping create a new one. And I think in the absence of an explanation from her of what has changed, or what’s different, if people now want to attribute her decision about AMC and OLTL to something like snubbing the audience that made her famous and rich, I would at least have to say “You have a point; it does seem that way.”

I do absolutely agree with you that she was under no obligation to take AMC and OLTL on if she didn’t want to. But if not doing so, and saying soaps were a genre whose time had passed, only to create a soap a year later, makes some people into former fans because they feel she has dissed them, I think she’s got nobody but herself to blame, either. It doesn’t make her look very sincere and empathetic, and for someone who built her career around projecting sincerity and empathy, that’s a big problem.

As for what difference the Tyler Perry soap will make to the future of soaps, I think very little, no matter whether it succeeds or fails. I think if it succeeds, people will say, “Niche network, different from normal soaps, Tyler Perry after all, not really relevant to what’s going on with network soaps.” If it fails, I think they’ll say, “Niche network, different from normal soaps, Tyler’s success has been movies and it unfortunately didn’t transfer, not really relevant to what’s going on with network soaps.” Especially if it ends up differing in significant ways from the traditional afternoon soaps–if OWN gives it a non-afternoon time slot, if it isn’t on five days a week, if each episode airs multiple times (as is the case on many cable networks).

I think more than money was involved in bringing AMC and OLTL to OWN. I imagine it would be far easier to start something new than get involved with something on-air that is so onerous as these soaps. I get people are upset the soaps ended, but it wasn’t her fault. And I think she watched AMC.

I lost respect in Oprah a long time ago. I stopped supporting any endeavor of hers. Take your self worth books and shove them wear the sun don’t shine.

She probably would have ruined OLTL if it was brought to her network. Another network will hopefully see the value of it soon.

Sell the rights back to Anges Nixon ABC.

“The Haves and Have Nots” Could they have possibly come uo with a more cliche title? That is pretty much the basic premise for every soap I’ve ever watched. BRING BACK OLTL and you’ll have an instant, loyal audience. Oh, I forgot, its on OWN so no one would watch anyway. Darn.

I will watch with bells on. So sad that people are angry at Oprah because she wouldn’t save their prescious AMC & OLTL that only catered to a certain type of audience. Believe me if she had taken on those soaps she would have made sure the cast was more diverse. I’m sure those so-called loyal soap fans would run for the hills because they couldn’t relate because of their wharped minds.

Whether Oprah wil l” have or have not” my viewership remains to be seen. According to La Winfrey, I thought soaps were on their way out. I won’t be doing Miss O any favors.

WOW!!!!!!! what a bunch of haters. These people speak such negativity from these message boards. You show the world your TRUE feelings in anonimity. It is amazing to see such pessimism spewed from the very people who said that they supported her. Oprah and Tyler WILL prevail. With or without you and you hatred. Accept it for what it is and move on.

My goodness! I have never read so much vitriol. I am amazed by the foolish thinking of some people being angry with Oprah for not buying AMC and OLTL? This is sad and laughable all in the same breath.

ABC and Oprah both made business decisions. ABC’s president of daytime operations Brian Frons wanted out of the soap opera business because of the major cost of production. He opted to cancel AMC and OLTL to replace them with talk shows because they’re cheaper to produce. Oprah entering a new industry of owning her own network was being honest with people by telling them soap operas as we know them today are a dying genre. Soaps are very costly to networks who buy into the Nielsens’ form of a rating systems. If the networks don’t see ratings bump then they usually ponder renewing a soaps (Days/GH) contract for another year. There was a time when networks would give daytime dramas a five year contract. Those days are over.

Oprah made the right decision and she doesn’t need grief from AMC and OLTL fans. You’re directing your anger at the wrong person to begin with. And MF, yes, I will be watching OWN’s new night time drama. Also, you should be fair with your writing about Oprah’s venture with Tyler Perry, when you know full well there’s a big difference in a weekly prime time drama oppose to a daily episodic one.

I soooooo agree withyou because it is a AWESOME soap opera I love The Haves And The Have Nots…..

Oh I’m sorry, but Oprah, didn’t you say soaps time is OVER now? I guess you realize you missed that train when you talked down to the AMC and OLTL fans. You were so condescending! I won’t be watching your new soap or anything else on your station! You treated the soap fans like crap and now no one wants anything to do with you! Hope karma bites you in the a$$!

At the beginning of the latest episode of General Hospital star, Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos) State of Mind series, he delivered some heartbreaking news with a purpose.

Kyle Oldham, the daughter of former All My Children star, Lee Meriwether (ex-Ruth Martin), who previously made a guest appearance on Benard’s show, returned for a new interview which will be coming soon.

During their conversation, Oldham shared that her beloved mother has Alzheimer’s. Sadly, according to Benard, Kyle also revealed she has been diagnosed with the disease as well.

Maurice expressed, “We talked about her mother and having Alzheimer’s and it was an amazing interview. And then Kyle said, ‘I gotta tell you something. I have Alzheimer’s.’”

Apparently, Kyle has agreed to come on State of Mind, periodically as the effects of Alzheimer’s take a hold of her to help educate others. “We decided that she was gonna come in … she was gonna call me and tell me as she progresses,” Benard shared. “She was going to come in again so the audience could see with their eyes what Alzheimer’s does to someone.”

Benard’s guest for this current episode of State of Mind was Vernee Watson (Stella, GH), who along with Maurice, was part of the Alzheimer’s storyline on the ABC daytime drama series that saw Mike Corbin (Max Gail) eventually pass away.
