General Hospital
RATINGS: General Hospital Bounces Back: Up In Total Viewers And Shows Gains In Demos!

Courtesy/ABC
The ratings are out for the week of July 6th through the 10th. And after a very bad week previously, General Hospital rebounded and was the only daytime drama out of the four network soaps to gain in total viewers!
GH added +184,000 bringing it’s average total viewer count to 2, 723,000. The lone ABC soap opera also gained in total viewers in all three women’s demo categories: 18-34, 18-49, and 25-54, where it showed the most gains adding +51,000. However, the series still tied an all-time low in the 18-49 demo ratings share.
As predicted and previously reported, the ratings uptake on GH featured the return of Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) and the reveal that little Jake Spencer (James Nigbor) is alive, while Luke (Anthony Geary) and Lucky had some touching heart-to-heart conversations, and more.
Over at The Young and the Restless the show continues to be at number one averaging 4,920,000 total viewers, and was up in the 18-49 female demo adding +56,000 viewers – the most in that category of any of the network soaps. However, all four networks soaps showed increases in the 18-49 demo, as well as the 25-54 audience.
The Bold and the Beautiful remained in the second spot slightly down with total viewers at 3, 694,000, and Days of our Lives was only slightly down from last week coming in at 2,344,000. View the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.
So, what do you think about General Hospital stopping its skid with a solid ratings week? Do you think they can continue to hold steady and/or climb? What stories are working for you on your favorite soaps? What stories aren’t … and make you want to tune-out? Which soap is your favorite right now? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
lol
This ratings stuff is nothing more than writer bashing fodder for all the soaps..
The suits don’t pay much attention the the weekly or monthly..
They rely on the September to September, calculate the whole year..
I knew without a doubt GH would come back up, as would the other soaps..
I believe GH will have a great comback fall !! 🙂
GH is going down in flames. Viewers are losing interest. Time to make changes now, or GH will be cancelled sooner than you think.
Agreed and this report is a much rosier portrait of the ratings than I see and has been reported elsewhere.
You did say that, Su. I trust your predictions .
Fingers crossed!
First off SuOOO, you are completely wrong and should stop making things up and posting them on this site.
As for GH, “Rebounding” is very generous considering it is still at extreme lows in the demos, down significantly from last year and down in total viewers, both 1OOK from last year. Stopping the slide would be more accurate and I doubt that will be the case the next round of ratings when they left the little Jake reunion on Tuesday and then had three days of Franco/Ava/Nina. Wednesday 7/15 won’t count because of the Presidential news conference pre-empting most of the show, so with two days of Luke/Lucky/Jake/Liz and two days of Franco/Ava/Nina, the numbers may not be too bad on a four day average if Monday and Tuesday were big enough.
Also, characterizing GH as the only soap to gain total viewers is misleading. It is up from the week before, but look at how low it has been and what the raw numbers for CBS shows are.
Y&R is at 4,924,000 viewers. It is up 414,000 from last year. Does it matter that it is down 26,000 from last week, a number that is statistically insignificant? GH is down 100,000 from last year. And Y&R it is at 831,000 in 18-49, up 114,000 from last year. GH is down 101,000. Given the actual numbers, GH being the only soap up in total viewers, from the previous week, is a misleading positive stat.
It would be accurate to say GH has stopped the slide, for a week at least. It has not rebounded until we see an upward trajectory for a longer and sustained period of time.
I for one tuned our for those three days of, as I like to call it, Non-General Hospital (Ava/Franco/Nina). I just don’t feel optimistic. We need a change, stat.
AJQ, hi..
I don’t give a crapola about your numbers.. = I do not care..
My post was number free..
I said GH would come back up and GH would have a good fall..
I did not throw numbers in my post because they have nothing to do with my comment..
HAND 🙂
Here something to think about. I have an SOD issue from 1999 and the ratings for the last remaining soaps back then for the last week in May were approx. 6.4 million for Y&R, 5.0 million for Days, 4.5 million for Bold and the Beautiful and General Hospital came in at about 4.3 million viewers for that week in 1999.
The bottom three soaps that week were Another World at 2.5 million, Port Charles at 2.1 million and Sunset Beach at 1.8 million.
Over the last 15 years the top four soaps of that week are that last four soaps standing. All of them have lost numbers, but considering GH has almost loss half the audience it once had, I don’t think ABC is popping any champagne corks over this slight bump in the ratings.
Mary SF, I always think about that as well, how the numbers used to be. Something from those days had to be working, that’s why I’m always excited to hear that they’re using history or bringing historical characters back. I know that audience is generally in decline, but GH doesn’t seem to help itself (i.e. knew characters, misuse of vets, etc.).
Let us be clear here, SUoo. The ratings rise are clearly connected with Tony Geary’s exit storyline coupled with the return of Lucky and Laura, not to mention the return of Jake and the promise of a Jason reveal long in coming.
They have nothing to do with Nina, Franco, Denise, Donna Mills, Kiki, Morgan, Sonny and Carly.
After Luke leaves the canvas forever, and if they do not step it up in the writing department and continue with badly paced stories with poorly developed characters whom no one cares about, the ratings will continue to dive.
I think it’s time to hire a new head writer.
Honestly, we have to listen to Anthony Geary. Love him or hate him, he knows good script writing and folks, this ain’t it.
Right on the money, Harry. As always, succinctly and well expressed.
Unless the characters you mention are given sensible, gripping storyline, the non-existing interest will tank even further. The Jason reveal should really happen on the heels of Tony’s exit in order to maintain the rise in the ratings.
I do believe, as you say, everything pertaining to Luke and his exit was the result of these ratings.
Love him or hate him once Tony leaves the show takes a dive! Not cancelled, a dive! They need to quit pissing around with Jason and just flesh out his identity. Billy Miller has been here a year already and he is still Jake! I agree Harry, they need a new head writer. Tony may have been bitchy, moody or demanding BUT he stuck up for the integrity Of Luke, good or bad! I love Roger and Michelle but their characters suck! I would NEVER FF through a GH but when they are on or Morgan, Denise, Kiki, Silas, Sabrina, oh my the list is too long, I have to FF!
Dear Harry..
of course the people tuned in to see the guests raising viewers..
I did say GH would go back up..
And I don’t waste time bitching about the writers, it is throwing good energy into the wind and makes one look like a cry baby ahaa!
GH will have a good fall 🙂 wait for it..
I’m fine with GH stories on the whole.. Sometimes it seems there is writer’s block but they will come back ..
Tony praised Frank..
Tony made mention about his exit story .. he didn’t care for it..
I think Tony should have been killed, out in bang..
I think Tony would have liked that too..
But- RC/FV/team have to go with how the Tony/Lukes fans would take his being killed off.. Many would not like that and all hell would have broken out for killing off Luke.. So what can yah do lol ..
GH will do well 🙂 it will have a come-up..
(I’m a positive person.. glass half full person )
Hey Harry…there’s two new head writers now. Let’s see how it goes! Keeping my fingers crossed!
I hope you’re right Su0000, but I have strong doubts, unless changes are made. I will try to be optimistic.
As Harry said, GH did well, however, Tony’s exit did have a lot to do with it.
By the same token, Su is usually pretty accurate in her predictions. There will definitely be another rise in the ratings as Jake’s true identity is revealed. I also think that if we see more of Monica interacti with Jake, little Jake and just being seen in the Q mansion will help with the ratings. So, I’m with you, Justin…..I will be optimistic.
This must be unpleasant news for all the crazed “Days of Our Lives” fans who are just perched for “General Hospital” to take hold of the fourth place slot which was been in permanent ownership of “Days” for two or three years now.
I read Tony’s interview and then all of the comments. I guess I will be in the minority, but I didn’t have a negative take away from any if his answers. And this comes from someone who wasn’t a great Luke lover at the best of times, and especially the Fluke debacle.
Rose, it appears that you commented on the wrong thread.
Will you please comment about the ratings on the Tony Geary exit interview thread so there is a balance? lol
Sorry about the confusion! Sometimes my iPad has a mind of it’s own. It was doing all kinds of weird things tonight.
I am not a fan at all, Rose, albeit I always applauded his performances. And, I do agree with you….I am right along with that minority.
Rose, I agree.
I may have gotten mad at Tony Geary a few times but it was like getting mad at my colorful, eccentric, and yet, brilliant uncle.
I am going to miss him and I thought his exit interview was lovely, funny, honest and kind of sweet.
So I guess since the “total viewers in ALL three women’s categories,” were up to the age of 54, there are no women viewers over 54? This comment isn’t a real question or meant for an explanation…just as an observation. Wonder what TOTAL viewer numbers would be like if the 54+ viewers weren’t there anymore?
Advertisers refuse to count people younger than 18 and usually older than 50. I guess they’ve gone up to 54 now. People need to complain and not allow this ageism because it affects the TV which we all watch.
Us guys should count too!!!
“Us guys?”. Why, Jimh!….. You don’t sound a day over 21 to me…..so frisky…LOL.
I need new glasses…thought it said up in demons…lol…what GH needs is a new family to bring the show much comic relief…i was inspired by a character Timmm created in another posting…CeeCee-the nurse…GH gets a hot sexy nurse named CeeCee who gets a lot of attention from the staff doctors-including Lucas?…CeeCee has an evil faternal twin named su who dresses in goth style and loves everthing wicked…she once wore a latex mask of her sister CeeCee and pretended to be her…Harry, their stern but understanding father tells CeeCee that her faternal twin sister su was born one week later after CeeCee…their mother Liesel who is also a doctor woke up possesed by the devil and gave birth to su on that same day, October 31—she weighed 6.66 pounds…others in the family include the eccentric but adorable Uncle Patrick…their fun loving cousin Trimmm…and their cool but nanny hater friend Shayster who comes to town to destroy Sabrina for being just plain annoying!!!…lol…love you guys and just having some fun with you!!!
Oh, Jimh, I have never laughed so hard, in my life. I swear I have tears streaming down my face. My stomach actually hurts from laughing.
I love you, Jimh. You make me happy.
You make my whole day so much better…love you too!!!
You’re lucky you didn’t “go Bodmin” wandering about those Cornish moors, CeeCee!!!! Whilst I can sympathize with the seriously spooky nature of your visit there, I also derive amusement, due to the “Doc Martin” show. Have you ever watched it? It is quite hilarious….I love Martin Clunes! He’s just so uppity and sarcastic with all the local loonies of “Portwenn” (aka, “Port Isaac,”…did you go there, as well????) No matter how many times I partake of any particular episode, it always makes me laugh! Great, great comedy. As for “Poldark,” I just knew you would enjoy the obvious charms of Aidan Turner….wouldn’t he make a fabulous Heathcliff???? I’m not as into this series as say, Downton Abbey, but it has made for good summertime viewing. Same goes for The Crimson Field and Last Tango in Halifax….just a truly varied array of fine British programming…no wonder I find myself so critical of GH, I’m spoiled by all this excellence from “Across the Pond.” (However, I truly am hoping for a turnaround on our favorite afternoon guilty pleasure….believe you me, it would be an utter joy not to have to take issue with the lack of quality writing on such a regular basis!) Having said that, it also would be ever so nice if one of the areas immediately addressed would be that of inconsistency when it comes to dropping those tantalizing hints that both of us seem to take so seriously. Perhaps it’s my love of international mystery shows, but when a clue is given, I make a mental note of it, and as such, expect it to be followed up so as to lead to an ultimate conclusion. Nathan’s paternity, for instance, not to mention many of the other (apparent red herrings?) that RC left hanging when his ADD-fueled interest in them waned. It’s extremely frustrating, but I do expect these new lady writers to try to offer—at least to a certain extent—some satisfying explanations for the messes that Ron left for them to rectify….the loyal fans who stuck through all the muck and mire of his regime are owed that much!!!! So, your “mannerly” little dude is already a “ladies’ man?” That’s toooo cute! (Although I’m definitely not surprised that he knows his proper etiquette…..when it is introduced as par for the course to a child at a tender age, it becomes as natural as breathing. I’m sure that quality is but one of the numerous things that attracts the girls….such as his Lucy!) In terms of Nico crushing on Maxie, I’m guessing that the fact she is a petite, fashionable blonde chick has something to do with it…she’s just like Mommy! Awww….how sweet!) At any rate, it sounds as though you shall have your work cut out for you for many years to come with your adorable mini-mister!!! And speaking of, I hope your alluded-to upcoming family travels are filled with fun and enjoyment….just stay safe and don’t forget about all of your friends here at MFSoaps!!!! We’ll be counting the days until your return, CeeCeeGirl!!!! Oh well, I best be going now…time for my weekly dose of “Masterpiece Theatre!” P.S. Glad you got my drift on the “wares.” I just knew YOU would! LOL!!!!
@Shay.
Hi, Mia bella.
No, I have never watched “Doc Martin”…..Perhaps I should start. I am so into anything British….the history, the culture, the royals etc. I am so in love with London proper…Bond St. It is to die for…the shops are endless!!
Then there’s Stratford-upon-Avon; so ever loved by the Bard. I visited Willy’s birthplace; Hathaway House; his tomb (Holy Trinity Church) and The Royal Shakespeare Theater.
Have you been to Bath? Amazing how far advanced and brainy the Romans were, Shay. I don’t have to tell you that. The Roman baths of Bath are so well maintained…the aqueducts and steam baths, still in existence…..not to mention the masterpiece that is The Colosseum in Rome.
We will be leaving Sunday…’scouring’ the shores of the Mediterranean; then Monaco; then Amsterdam where many Van Aardens still reside….so exiciting!!!!!!
You were right on two counts. I love the brooding type of man…Heathcliff set the tone for many a soap idol….and, Bronte well depicted him as the archetype of the brooding and tormented romantic hero.
Second: Nico does compare me to Maxie because of my stature and hair. I hope he doesn’t grow up having an Oedipus Complex…LOL.
Maxie always manages to look so fresh…love her clothes…that remark she made to MadMaddie about what she was wearing? I must admit Donna Mills was so great and so nonchalant as she answered, “It’s vintage”! I found their banter completely comical and so entertaining.
Anyway, I always get your drift, Shay. Why? I may not be as eloquently descriptive as you, but I think we are of a mind….later, ShayGirl.
Oh, CeeCeeGirl, “Doc Martin” is the ultimate dramedy! It mixes actual, well-researched medical conditions with some of the most delightfully absurd characters and situations, and the unifying figure for all of it is Martin Clunes—as the snarky, put-upon, but extremely professional, Dr. Martin Ellingham! This series is a continuation of the “Saving Grace” film, if ever you’ve seen that. There were some slight modifications made to the television version, but the local flavor–and yokels—definitely remain the same. It is now filming its 7th–and possibly last–season, although it is easy to catch up on all the previous ones, because like so many British programs, there weren’t that many episodes done each time, and they were often produced only once every two years. But they are all superb….wonderful guest stars, too. Many familiar faces from both the UK’s stage and screen communities…if you are an aficionada of nearly any regularly run British show in this country, then you will definitely recognize the names. (I even just read that Sigourney Weaver is currently on set doing a cameo guest shot….not bad for a Yank!) At any rate, the show is simply an utter joy and a real kick in which to partake. Do look it up when the opportunity allows. (I watch it on one of my local PBS stations…I’m lucky in that I can access channels from two major markets, hence, I get a lovely variety of both dramas and “Britcoms,” and speaking of the latter, if you want a naughty chuckle, check out “Vicious.” It’s a nasty little piece of a sitcom with Sirs Derek Jacobi and Ian McKellen as a long-suffering couple of over 40 years…..it’s every bit as prickly as one might expect….definitely NOT for the delicate ears of the kiddies, but great fun…My favorite character is a big, bawdy woman called Violet, played to perfection by actress Frances de la Tour (—de Force, as I refer to her…Hah!) There is nothing she will not say or do….she’s both brave and shameless….oh my!!!!! (Apparently, she has just been cast in the upcoming season of “Outlander,” so you shall soon get a taste of her talent!) I guess you can tell I am a seasoned foreign tv fan….as a matter of fact, I barely watch anything but….GH is nearly the sole exception! Hence, I could go on for hours about all of the fabulous miniseries, mysteries and comedies that have come out of the UK, but that is quite enough for now from your fellow Anglophile. On to your travel itinerary….sounds very eclectic and enjoyable! Perhaps you will even run into Mr. Geary in one of those infamous “coffee shops” in Amsterdam….Hmmmm!!!! As for the rest, it should definitely be a good time! No, I’ve not been to Bath, but I am quite aware of the Roman influence on that historical city…amazing, isn’t it??? What I find intriguing is how so many ancient peoples roamed early Europe….not just the Romans, but the Vikings, too, for example, and how most individuals have no clue as to the composition of their true DNA due to such early mobility. Being of “European extraction” really does cover the gamut, eh???? Needless to say, I hope you have a wonderful and safe journey…although I must ask how long will we be without your wit and wisdom here at MFSoaps???? Then again, I suppose it is a fine time to take a break from GH….there’s too much mind-numbing minutiae left for the new ladies in the writing room to obliterate…..perhaps upon your return, there will be a much improved atmosphere in Port Charles….at least one can pray it will be thus!!!! (I certainly couldn’t make it through today’s episode…..) Lastly, I think it’s adorable that Nico has a crush on Maxie….especially if it’s based in his love for his mommy. Let’s face it, the best men are those who grew up with an affectionate and healthy respect for their mothers…when that is absent, they are sadly clueless as to how to correctly treat women! You’ve obviously set your little man off on the right foot! And yes, that mini b-fest between Ms. Jones and Maddie was simply delicious! I’m looking forward with bated breath to a rematch of these petite blonde powerhouses!!!! Anyway, I really should be going now….as always, it was lovely chatting it up with you, CeeCee. Take care, and please do try to grace us with your presence up until the waning moments before you take off for your “most excellent excursion, ” because you shall most assuredly be missed! Later, Girl!!! P.S. I always get your drift, too….LOL!

Thanks Shay…i didnt need to be too descriptive…we already know your classy!!!
Love GH so much I don’t see it boring at all been watching sicne I was 16 now at age 44 still a big fan of gh love all the storyline would like more on Brad andLucas and bring back Scotty daughter and spinelli and bring back felica and mac and Lucy and Ana and let jake remember that hes a Q

Nobody else so skillfully—and colorfully!—utilizes religious imagery as you do…….perhaps we should refer to you as “Father Harry!”
6.66 pounds, that is excellent!
That stuff all came to me after reading your CeeCee The Nurse under a different posting…ill give you some credit!!!
Awwww….thank you, jimh! I wasn’t fishing for a compliment, just contrasting myself to a current GH character who revels in revealing herself at every opportunity! I’m sure you know to whom I am referring…LOL!
Hi, ShayGirl.
I have caught a few episodes of POLDARK. I love Aiden, and the brooding character he plays…. and his locks!!!!
The only deterrent for me is Cornwall….such a dreary place…Land’s End…even that name conjures up images of trolls, and the craggy coastline gives me shivers. I’ve been there…..I kept looking over my shoulder…LOL.
Back to GH: yes, I know exactly “where you’re going”, Shay…chuckle, chuckle…
Now, unless Paul is a crafty, slimy, sneaky sociopath, I doubt he could be Nathan’s father.
It makes one wonder. I could still see and hear Liesl in my head, when she said that Nathan’s father was much worse than Victor. Now, I’m thinking that those words were written without any consequence or how heavily they would hit the viewer. I suppose the writers expected us to forget that incident. How can we ‘unhear’ the words? That has been the problem for me ….how we are taken for granted.
I am not familiar with past GH boogie men. Perhaps the new writing team will shed some light on the mystery.
Nico IS precocious, Shay. His brain is way ahead of his body. Then, again, he surely likes the girls. Sometimes I do double-takes with the stuff that comes out of his mouth. He is a very well mannered little boy, mind you. Nonetheless, yesterday, he told me he kissed a girl in his class, named Lucy. When I asked him what about Maxie?, he said, “I like them both”. LOL. WOW!!
Buonanotte, amica.
I think a couple things GH could really use…is pay-off and respect for the viewers. I will use my favorite couple as an example…. Spixie. We waited years and year (and years) for resolution to the promise that seemed to be made under the Guza/Phelps regime……. that Spixie were true love, meant to be.. their story was told like a song with chords and lyrics that pointed to one thing under Guza/Phelps… but under RC and FV it was like the writers changed the song entriely and not only that but ignored the previous verses and chorus.. and just made up an entirely new song. The ending felt SO wrong and false. If RC didn’t like or get Spixie, he did not have to drag Spinelli into the Naxie story… Spin and Maxie could have remained friends and co parent Georgie while caring for each other deeply, maybe some subtle under currents of what could hinit for the future….but leaving the Spixie story “to be continued at a future date” since Spin is with Ellie, Maxie with Nathan.. while RC told the Naxie story WITHOUT disrespecint Spixie, Spixie fans and history. That is just one example, but one I give because it is close to my heart. Other fanfs feel similarly about other couples………. I feel the writers simply don’t respect fan investment or history……. and they give very little if any pay off for that investment………………….. as for the ratings increase… YAY!!!! I <3 Lucky and those final scenes with Luke were brillian………. some of the best scenes I've seen on GH in a long time……I will miss AG and I'm so glad Jonathan Jackson returned for a few eps. <3
I guess Nathan looks better with his shirt off than Spinelli! Here the thing about Maxie, she is quirky and goes off the handle or used to in a fun kind of innocent way sticking her foot in her mouth. Now it seems like they have her with this Chippendale’s dude and she has no life in her! Her demise actually stated with Levi, one of the worst characters EVER on GH! Then Nathan completely sucked the energy out of her!
Do you wonder why Maxie has no energy left, Timmm? LOL. Having a stud like Nathan around is a distraction and a destruction for Maxie. Have you noticed how thin she’s gotten? Lots of aerobics!!!!!
Seriously, I agree with you…..there needs to be a storyline that binds these two in more meaningful ways than just sex. However, some fans crave to see that. As much as I love seeing Nathan’s buff upper body, I would be more curious and fascinated in finding out who his real father is. I would be so much more Interested if he were to be involved in Nina’s upside-down life…past and present. A structured storyline would give Nathan a more dimensional acumen than just catching bad guys and his prowess in bed. As it is, he is just a piece of gorgeous art….might as well hang him up.
As far as Maxie? My son, who is only six, counts the minutes for Maxie to appear….he is smitten.
On the other hand he asks me why she needs help in the shower. That’s the cue to turn the channel.LOL.
@CeeCee….Your Nico sounds like one precocious little dude! (Hope he didn’t witness the “drop the soap” shower scene with Brad and Felix today….that’s a whole different kind of “help” to be had!) Having said that, I’ve been meaning to ask if you’ve been watching “Poldark?” Not unlike your beloved Nathan, the eponymous character’s portrayer (Aidan Turner….) has been quite touted for his rugged physique, not to mention his dark, brooding good looks! He really is quite fine in the role, and I could not help but think that you would enjoy his considerable charms. (There were some rather revealing skinny-dipping scenes that proved to be an international sensation…..) At any rate, the program is a very well-done historical saga to boot….and as another humorous footnote, in last Sunday’s episode there was a moment which also called to mind GH for me. In it was a high-society female character wearing the latest fashion of the period which featured an extremely revealing, pushed-up décolletage—yes, I’m sure you know where I am going here—and one outraged mature male called her out for it by saying “Cover yourself, Missy!” and that she should have more modesty and not be “laying out her wares for men to slather over…” Need I say more????? LOL…..Lastly, I am also waiting for the big reveal of Nathan’s father…the mystery has gone on long enough. I wonder if the truth is even in the pipeline, or have the show runners yet to decide on the paternal figure? (Could it be Paul???? Since Dillon and Nathan have taken a disliking to each other, it would be a real kick if they turned out to be brothers, although for the life of me, I cannot figure out why Liesl would consider Mr. Hornsby to be a worse babydaddy than a Cassadine….hmmmm.)
No no no to Guza! He was horrible. Only good thing he did was Luke’s intervention, I think RC and FV are getting worn out working with old storylines from OLTL and recycled GH. Rating are ALWAYS down in summer; school and college out, vacations, etc. but they definitely need to get
(Continued) More creative in their thinking. Spixie is OVER, they were NEVER a good match, hence the “non-wedding”. He met his perfect match with Ellie. Personally I think Robin needs to come back and have closure with Patrick, Rosales secret needs to come out (Alcazar?) and she needs somebody or something to blow up and make her part of the bigger picture – maybe Btad is adopted son of alcazar and he and Rosalie are siblings. Then they try to take what they can from Sonny and Julian and The two big men join forces to destroy them. Another wedding blow Up at Lucas and Brads.
Spixiefan – I understand what you are saying. I believe that the Spinnelli actor wanted to leave GH and the Maxie actress was staying, so it made I difficult to keep them together?
I thought the week these numbers represent was one of the best GH has had in quite a while after a lackluster few weeks, so I’m glad to see the viewership numbers reflect that.
Unfortunately, you can’t have Jonathan Jackson return and a big storyline twist like little Jake being found alive every week, so I hope they can get their regular weekly stories up to snuff. I’m not one of these “the sky is falling, GH is gonna be canceled, fire everybody” people, but there’s undeniably some storyline issues that they need to improve.
This past week, I loved the shows on Mon and Tues that focused on The Spencers and little Jake being reunited with Elizabeth, and the wonderful scenes with the woefully under utilized Leslie Charleson and Billy Miller, as Monica told Jake about the history of Jason. And then Wed-Fri was a fast forward fest for me, as the focus shifted back to the ‘B’ and ‘C’ stories with Denise and Morgan, and company. GH is a Jekyyl and Hyde show right now. Great some days, cringe worthy other days. I hope they can get back to some better consistency.
Thats the problem Dan, they have two good shows a week and the rest are borderline un-watchable! Like you though, I will never threaten to quit watching the show UNLESS Nathan becomes the police commissioner!
Oh, Timmm….The immense pleasure you take in the deriding of Nathan is completely equal to my doing likewise to Sappy. In our eyes, these characters can do no right…..LOL!
So true, i ff scenes between denise and morgan!!!!!
Maura is so good at being Ava and then they write her into a corner and Denise is born. There goes here Emmy chances! Its like OJ running for 200 yards and getting four touchdowns in a game and then going out afterwards and murdering two innocent people! Whats the use!
Well put, Dan! It’s not for nothing that I referred to last week’s Wednesday to Friday episodes as “General Tedium.” Their inane tangents featured some of the most consistently boring and terribly drawn characters ever to curse Port Charles with their presence. Until these mostly wastes of space are reinvented, minimized or entirely eliminated, the up-and-down ratings pattern is going to remain constant.
By the way Shayster, I think Nathan’s dad is going to turn out to be C3PO!
Not so, Shay. Deep down, Timmm ADMIRES Nathan…. It’s a facade. He really likes our gorgeous cop. Timmm just likes to stick it to me….LOL.
I like the C3PO reference, though.
GH would pick up its ratings if they would just stop dragging these damn storylines so long….. People tend too lose interest and they just stop watching……. You guys need too work on bringing back AMC, OLTL….. So sick of all these damn talk shows…… Please my dear writers get it together….. I’ve been watching GH for over forty years and this is the worst it’s ever been…….. Fire those writers and bring in some more creative writers… Just my opinion
Angie, hi
I like shorted stories too!
I wish both Y&R and GH would move faster..
seems all the soaps have that problem.
hmm if the stories were to move faster than the writers would need to work double time coming up with new stories to begin and figure out their path for months ahead..
that could be a challenge for writers.. but they could give it try!
adding; Jean Passanante has been brought on ..
good or bad dunno ..
DAYS .. yes, it’s obvious why no one is watching, barely any romance and slow-paced stories. GH, though .. good to see ratings were up, but they should have been higher for Jonathan Jackson and the return of Jake. I’ll be shocked if the next ratings report doesn’t show at least 2.5 for Elizabeth & Monica reuniting with their long-lost sons!
I think the ratings will sink for the week of 7/13 because of the change in focus after the 7/13 episode. And it think this points to a major issue: character integration. The 7/14-17 episodes were like a different soap from the week of 7/6. Liz went to bed at the end of the 7/13 episode and finally woke up to bring Jake to the doctor on 7/20. I know time moves slow on soaps, but come on. Many posters hate certain characters but if there was a better mix, I think some of that hatred would go away. If you don’t like Kiki, you may hate her less if her stories are more interspersed instead of seeing her 4 days in a row. Just my 2cents
It shows ONE thing, you bring in top notch talent [JJ] and tell a decent story OR in his four arc episode, have people act that can freakin act, BANG, higher ratings. It doesnt take a genius! You can take Franco, Nina, Nathan, Piano Teeth, Sappy, Moron and DAnise and fire them and start using the good talent you have and write some good stories from start to finish!
Jakes return. ha ha Lets face it. If they thought that would have upped the ratings they wouldn’t have made it a big secret. They would have had it out there so the people who cared, I am not one of them, could have been watching. Lucky’s return and Lauras that could have done it. If they want the ratings to rise, Re-Ron needs to stop being a 12 year old and trying to shock the fans. The show is so stale, people fans don’t bother. Laura’s return was a joke, she got so little to say, she was a backround player for the most part. Now its back to the ones no one cares about. Franco, Nina, madalin Sonny/Carley round 67 . No one I care about. Dante, Lulu and Valerie how long before we get the soap staple the GH one at least Val’s pregnant ?? Jake looks like he was brainwashed.
why are ghs ratings so important!
They are not important to most fans, the millions who are not on the forums to read of them have little knowledge of the weekly rating postings.
The ratings are writer bashing fodder, they excite people in that way, actually..
Rating are like a roller coaster, up and down..
I believe some find the ratings to be a competition of the soaps ..
Mine is winning!! No! mine is winning, I dunno lol ..
The network and sponsors care about the ratings..
they have their own way of tallying them.. Of course demo is at the top of the tally ..
They are mostly concerned of September to September numbers..
If the ratings get too low the soap most likely will be canceled or a change of staff will occur….
Anyways the posting of the ratings is for bitching about everything/a bitch fest..LOL
If the rating go up, then there are some happy campers! 🙂 but still some need to find fault..
It’s a vicious circle! … And we love it !!
I do not care for ratings much….never follow that drivel. I just like a good story…one with substance, one that makes me cry or laugh, one that keeps me enraptured and involved, one with wit….etcetera, etcetera, etcetera……What’s needed? Jimh’s suspenseful scenarios, Timmm’s and Harry’s wit and sardonic humor, and Shay’s comparative sarcasm.
Nonetheless, Mark; I do believe that the ratings make GH’s boat float….LOL.
As we all know, GH has way too many stories going on. They can literally cut out half of these stories and have a better show with a nicer flow. GH has very “strong actors” and it’s sad that their talents are being waisted. I will use their character names: Franco, Ava/Denise, Nina, Jake/Jason, Rick, Laura, Tracy, etc…Just to name a few. What do all of these people have in common; “THEY ARE ALL EMMY WINNERS”. The problem is, they are all STUCK IN STORIES THAT SUCK!!!
Other characters that are “not as strong” and their stories are weak too: Morgan, Kiki, NU Lulu, Valerie (OMG – Why?), Nathan (sorry), Ron Carlivati, etc…
I know I left some people out in “both” of my categories, but I think the GH fans know what I mean.
Side Note: Where’s Spinelli? I singled him out because “to me” he really brings something to this show. I remember him from his very first scene on GH. Some may think he’s annoying but I think he’s a breath of fresh air. The writers grew him up but still kept him quirky and smart. He’s the only person in the whole city Port Charles that even had a clue that Jake is Jason and if you remember, he didn’t even see Jason’s face, he saw the back of him. Why didn’t the writers let him pursue his instincts and continue this storyline? That would have been awesome.
I know ABC has to put their “stamp of approval” on the writing so, in fairness, I don’t want to come down too hard on Ron and his writing team.
I love GH: I have been watching it for a long time. It’s my daily escape from reality. It’s a good show, but I know it can be a “BETTER” show.
Has anyone gone to the Y&R viewer survey at http://www.cbs.com/daytime to express their views on Y&R? I have and I hope TPTB listen to the fans. I love Y&R (as I do all 4 network soaps) but all shows could stand to benefit from listening to their core fanbase.
GH can rebound but like Pratt, the storytelling needs to be balanced. GH’s fans (a lot, but not all) have been complaining about the show for about a year. The ratings finally caught up with the mess on screen.
I hate Pratt and his shtick got old fast. I’m hoping that after its low point, when Cady’s character was stabbed in the neck by JACK ABBOTT, and the outrage on Twitter at that time, that Pratt was told to tone it down. Because low and behold, about 4-5 weeks after, the writing changed and the ridiculousness mostly stopped. I believe that the show tapes about 4 weeks behind, so my theory might be correct. Who knows.
YR has been better thankfully, and its ratings haven’t suffered, yet.
I’m going to check out Days when it reboots again. GH will need a complete overhaul before I can tune in to it though.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.
Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT
Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”
Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”
Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES
In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”
Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”
You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.
General Hospital
‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera?
