The Bold and the Beautiful is one hot soap!  The CBS Daytime drama series scored a strong week of gains across the board in total viewers and in all key women’s demographics for the ratings period of January 26th through January 30th, 2015.

In story, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) had returned to Los Angeles to find her family in shambles – Rick (Jacob Young) has grabbed a gun and wanted to kill Caroline (Linsey Godfey) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), Liam (Scott Clifton) and Bill (Don Diamont) were planning on taking Forrester Creations out from under Rick,  Brooke confronted Maya (Karla Mosley) and Caroline of what was happening between them and Rick and Ridge, and it looked like Ridge and Caroline where hatching their own plan and getting closer again after Rick’s heinous behavior.

Meanwhile, on the Friday January 30th episode, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnnes Wood) walked back in to Liam’s life at his request to help him  get controlling interest at Forrester Creations.  B&B scored 3,968,000 in total viewers and was up +218,000 from the previous week.  The series also led the  women 18-34 demo in total viewers, and was just slightly behind Y&R at # 2 in the women 18-49 and 25-29 demo.

The Young and the Restless, General Hospital and Days of our Lives also showed gains in their total viewer count during the ratings period.

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,797,000 (+56,000/-929,000)

Go B&B!

GH is a lot better right now even with a few problems here and there…i wanted a more explosive bomb episode…here was a chance to kill off some of the unnecessary bloated cast and they blew(pun) it…lol…i knew once that newbie chick(hope thats not offensive to anyone, Andy Cohen…lol)…introduced her father i knew he’d be someone important to free Sonny for his heroic deed but is saving a dozen lives anything compared to his nefarious crimes he committed over the last twenty years to warrant such freedom?…i also believe the remains from the basement arent Luke’s…Dr.O is grateful to Helene for helping Faison escape and in return might just be helping Helene…Commisioner…is he really Valentin Cassidine?…Days is starting to pick up again…as soon as Erik and Daniel learn Nicole was right about Serena(big mistake Days not casting MA as Sarah Horton), i hope Nicole tells both idiots to go burn in Hell and she finds someone who truly loves her!!!

I know– Nicole should tell both them to take a flying leap off a short pier. My goodness the girl must have the word welcome tattooed on her face for both of these jerks to use her for a doormat. I like Nicole with Brady, but it looks like that ship has sail, so I would like to see her with Rafe, now that he has fallen off his high horse perhaps he would be bit more understanding towards her.

The nuSloane on GH looks like he is constipated– at least the other guy could crack a smile once in a while. Not sure I like the change in direction. And putting him in cahoots with Fluke and Helena destroys any chance of romance between him and Anna, which was brewing between her the previous actor playing Sloane.

As for Fluke I’ve given up — I no longer care who he is—just hope there is a decent wrap up that really ties all the threads of this really odd story together properly.

Sonny’s a hero ? I wonder if Michael wasn’t on that boat whether he would have grabbed the bomb to save the governor’s daughter– hah– he would have let her blow up with everyone else, all he cared about was Michael– . But it gets him out prison; Alexis will get Julian out; Franco will be too high to go back and they will figure out some lame excuse to get Ava out, once she is declared dead and comes back for a while in disguise.

I would love a Rafe and Nicole pairing…neither one has had any luck in the love department…GHs nuSloane…not to sure about him yet…i still think he’ll be Valentin Cassidine and yet another villian…i did like the other guy better…hoping he’d turn out to be a good guy for Anna too…he and Anna couldve been almost good as Robert and Anna…they both couldve been secretly working undercover, and him taking over as Commisioner was part of the plan but of course now it looks highly unlikely that will happen now theyve changed actors and taking him in a different direction…i see no reason they couldnt have done that with the other actor…oh, well…and that is so true what you said about Sonny not saving the day hadnt Micheal been there…maybe Ava will be an old flame of the governor and she’ll know a dirty secret about him and he’ll pardon her???

the one lingering diss …. on Fridays DOOL ep:

Brady and Melanie doing the horizontal… wasn’t interested

because I want him with Theresa… and that the baby drama… will unfold… and all this cheerleading by every Salem’ite… just waned and I already had it with saintly Melanie

Brady and Theresa
Eric and Nicole… and…. I only say this because of lack of respect toward NIcole… she didn’t deserve all the blame… love is blinded… she deserves some real honest truths…
Daniel and ummmhhh… goes nowhere !!!! ??? get a clue … Daniel and Jennifer… geez doesn’t she run in to the ground… how these two may not be lovers…but are “besties”…. give me a break… I’ll listen to you if you listen to me… striving for similarities.. YES ! both boring

anyway… it kinda creeps me out some… if Daniel , Eric, and Brady are around the same age range…. ???? (declared bffs) and Daniel DAUGHTER … is dating someone , Daniel’ age?

blech!

wasted reel

@marySF

I too have been wondering… how will Ava get out of this…. per your post… most likely on her own… which would be good… as she doesn’t have to rely on any one in Port Charles… and is on even keel with every one. and can champion her being… mother… and damned if it doesn’t matter that her child… is fathered by Morgan or Sonny

I hope it’s Morgan

DOOL : friday’ ep : had me tearing up all hour about Freddie Smith’ Sonny

Oh Mary SF yes!

When I say “who’s Fluke?” I mean, I’m not familiar with a Fluke, who is he? Is he on a show? THIS, because I have blocked him & this sl out of my mind. Please FREE William deVry from this dialogue he’s had to spew for months telling everyone & updating Alexis on Luke/Flue!!

Sonny’s no hero, but at least he did try to save Ava. But I see him & Shawn already making plans though Sonny’s barely conscious. Soon, they will turn angry & evil plans. Hated how Dante tried to guilt Michael into going. Nice acting from all.

Love that Jake was very, very concerned about Michael’s safety & almost broke Patrick’s neck to get an update! Did anyone realize that strange?

Robb Derringer was better in every way as Sloane. Tons of dialogue when he was tossed right into that heavy, crazy & action in Nov sweeps IMO. He came into town, badgering heroine Anna Devane & survived. He scored many fans & was great looking, even if 1 yr old, 47, than the NuSloane. He’s very fit, great demeanor, sharp & sharp dresser, killed it in a suit right down to his shoes. Great hair and cut, sorry GM. Please cut yours! Robb had chemistry w/Anna. He was kind of funny, charming. He’s charismatic, nuNotSloane lacks.

Nicole on Days, boy. She did get mad at Serena & call the guy back for the dirt, but Serena’s been acting afool too-fighting in a nightclub, trying to work Daniel. AZ’s Nicole needs to be driving a sl, not the black sheep of Salem! She’s had the same dialogue for years: “You have to”, “believe or listen”..blah, blah…Sharon on Y&R Nicole on Days, the right age, the right look, the experience & charisma, the chops-They need to be driving sl’s on their shows, front & center as leading ladies, Not pinatas.

New writers effective February 16th…Co-Head writers Dena Higley and Josh Griffith!!

Can they bring back Amber now please

Y&R/B&B stay true to soap opera format and are rewarded. That is why they are top 2.

Days has stiff time opposite them.

GH has lost its way.

You summed it up beautifully.

Really enjoying B&B with Brooke and Steffy back. Am looking forward to the big Y&R disaster storyline coming. Not watching GH and DAYS at the moment, they are just blah. The writing of GH has really deteriorated.

Good for BB.I shut GH off. No excuses just the way it is. I cannot bother watching this drivel.

I mean what’s not to love right now– no tedious love triangle with the endless who should be with who hogging the screen– office intrigue, spurned lovers, a gun going off– all classic soap stuff. Not sure how long this will last, but I am enjoying the fresh change of pace from the usual B&B fare.

GH has been camptastic lately but the show has a limited appeal as its viewership and ratings still can’t touch those of #1 Y&R. One way to close the gap would be to drive long time fans away and drag Y&R’s ratings down by turning it into the CBS version of GH like some on these boards advocate. If that does happen, both Mr. Pratt and JFP will find themselves out of a job.

In this day and age, more viewers could want those short disaster storylines. If Y&R does well with the plane crash, then they should do a twister in the Spring and a Summer sinkhole! I have a good idea for a winter disaster. Genoa City can freeze!!!

BTW, 4Hourglass says hello to all T.V. and Movie Buffs!

All and all, its been on and off the same old ratings for the last remaining 4 soaps since ABC cancel AMC/OLTL.It is the end of an era..In a couple of years, the soaps will decline further when the oldest soap fan generation passes on..It will take a miracle if the 18-34 fan base will increase and stick to regularly viewing the shows, that is the only way folks!!..I love my soaps and will support them till they are off the air!

Wow, Y&R loses nearly one million viewers from this time last year. Anyway you want to spin it, that’s a HUGE loss. There’s nothing to brag about by CBS or any of its shills in the soap biz.

It’s not the HUGE loss as you Y&R haters make it to be. Last year around this time was the big Billy/Adam showdown and fallout over Delia’s death which drew big numbers. No surprise Y&R is down from that this year. And it’s still #1.

It is more than obvious-
when Y&R needs numbers up they always go with a ‘kill’
and after a death they milk it forever.. example Cassie..
I wish the plane would crash on her gave so Sharon didn’t have a place go to make sniveling speeches– that has been going on forever (overkill on the kill)
I believe, soon if the numbers don’t go up there will be a ‘kill’ and it will someone who they can milk his/her death for at least a year.. 🙂

Y&R runs on dead or dying stories.. Y&R is full diseases lol .That is obvious ..
so, who will be the next kill to up the numbers??

So what if it’s still #1, the show bled nearly a million viewers since last year. That’s BAD no matter how you want to position it. Phelps ran off Miller & Muhney, so this was self-inflicted by her, with Sony & CBS signing off on her actions. She’s put her FOJs in those roles and the audience hasn’t stayed. So much for their purge of talent and it not being noticed. Phelps put her dislike of Miller & Muhney over what’s best for Y&R. They are paying the price. I have no sympathy for them. No plane crash re-hash story will bring them back.

Chuckie Pratt’s an expert at death and destruction, look what he did to AMC. His first s/l was a tornado hits Pine Valley. Now his first s/l is a plane crash taking out half of Genoa City. The promos nearly look identical. Pathetic. Good luck CBS, you’ll need it. LOL.

Abigail, I totally agree with you and thought the same thing. The nearly 1 million viewer loss in a year was the glaring fact in this article. Not sure why the headline trumpets, “B&B close to 4 million!!!” when the detailed facts show that it, and the other three soaps, have lost a significant number of viewers in the past year.

I have watched Y&R and B&B for decades and would hate to see them cancelled. That being said, it has felt like a chore watching them in the past decade (especially Y&R) as the writing, casting, and overall focus just isn’t interesting.

CBS has hired/fired several regimes of producers and writers in the past decade. Every one of them has tried to put their own “spin” on a show that, frankly, didn’t need “spinning” — Y&R was a well run machine; all anyone had to do was keep it going, NOT change it.

This upcoming “disaster” storyline is probably going to be just that — a disaster. Y&R was never known for these types of “stunt” events and doesn’t need them. It just needs well-written, character driven plots that focus on the KNOWN characters on the show.

Someone may bash me for my less than positive comments but these numbers tell the truth —- These shows are in trouble and whatever they are doing and have been doing for the past decade is NOT working. It isn’t attracting new viewers; it is driving off long-time viewers like myself.

It is a shadow of its former self. I started watching B&B a few years ago and I do not enjoy it as much as I once did. I dislike the shots of around LA and the constant flashbacks that seem to occur a few episodes a week. Lately the story lines seem to be improving but come on Ridge and Caroline?

I see many trying to say Steffy brought the ratings up but if you look she was 1st on Friday & that day got the lowest rating. LOL

Bold and Beautiful would be great if they could have a hour slot, cause right now you lucky to see 20minutes with all the commercials.

CBS should reward B&B by taking away 15 minutes from Y&R and giving it to B&B. They would both be 45 minutes long. That’s fair!!!

It will be interesting to see where the GH writers go after the Fluke story comes to a close. I think they have exhausted the Spencer and Cassadine mythologies. I guess they could try to bring a new gang into town. but been there, done that. Or they could actually write “soap operas”…build new legacies based on core characters/families we can really care about, with adventure, mystery, betrayals, real romance, etc., instead of all of the emphasis on gimmicks, mind control, lab experiments, Pentonville, Shady Brook, and camp. I like a little of the “far out” kind of stuff, but there has been too much the last few years.

ohh geez rose
the characters of GH and the families are very strong..
the Corinthos family , they are legend.. The two brothers and their father Sonny and mother Carly is very deep and character driven..
The Cassadine’s are a family of many layers and also strong no matter which they go, they bring history and mystery..
GH has many characters and families that are character heavy..
everyone on GH is strongly characterised and connected to strong families..
and GH holds tight to its’ past and brings back vets that we all love to see again even if for a short time, or by mention, it is fun..

GH is not about romance, it has entangled couples of love and lust they are intriguing and some have very endearing love, but not sappy campy goo goo..
GH couples are HOT, not in the traditional box..

The Q’s have been rebuilt as much as possible without digging up graves, all things come to an end.. Michael, Ned Tracy or holding the front and soon perhaps Jason Quartermaine will return.. Q’s are Q’s..

If you want sappy campy love stories then stop watching GH— GH is ”far out stuff” and damned good far out stuff! ..suspenseful, thrilling and always entertaining and it’s a fun soap and and GH is disease free, nobody is blind, bipolar, alcoholic, Ms or PTSD or recovering drug addict none are dying from cancer every 3 years or from old age.
and nobody is crying at a gave for over a decade, regularly .. 😉
note; GH is not a bleak, not a depressing soap..

LOL —- Y&R is by far the campiest soap..
it is total campy and comedians make fun of its’ love gone wrong stuff and countless skits done of the the sappy campy recycled love couples of Y&R is commonly done .. 🙂

and– ALL soaps have gimmicks they need them.. BB had a gimmick it was much like a travel brochure and DROOL even had a stabbing!
I believe Y&R is having a big ‘gimmick crash’.. but, it will never be done with the pazazz that GH could do it 😉
GH is not for everyone so don’t punish yourself by watching.
All is well and as it should be with GH 🙂 AWESOME STUFF !!!

Long live ALL the soaps, they are loved!!

su0000…i figured if anyone would have something to say, it would be you. In some ways we agree, especially on loving GH, and family’s Quartermaine, Spencers, Carinthos, Cassadine.
And I don’t like overloads of sappy, alcoholics, nervous breakdowns, and on and on depressing stories.

However, I think they need to reconnect to SOME of the fantasy of what made soaps and GH popular. Right now they are doing a little to much extreme-gimmick-soap, and are off track. When things get rough, in this case ratings, it’s easy to throw in outrageous, decadent, and dark, instead of compelling writing.

Right now that’s part of what happening in film (especially the overdone effects), and way beyond beginning to bore people like me who are big sci-fi/fantasy fans, go to sci-fi conventions, am a Marvel/DC comic book collector of long standing. And I even like Revenge and Scandal, but in their right time-slot and place.

But in daytime, I prefer some of the far-out mixed with adventure, romance, a little humor, rich families, etc as a place to drop out for a while from overt guns, violence and the vile things people either do to one another, or think about doing, that you hear about in the news every day. That’s why I started watching GH in the first place.

B&B has been on a roll as of late and it’s nice to see the show focus on it’s younger talent, unlike Y&R, which is the same s/l of Victor vs. Jack over and over again. That cast must average in age of 55+. No wonder the younger demos prefer B&B. Who wants to look at Braeden’s pruneface day in and day out?

I only catch some from time to time but Jacob Young’s doing great. They have heat to overtake Y&R.

I am uncomfortable about Nielson rating system but:

Pratt scares me at Y&R: All women are losing it:
1.Phyllis locked away where only God can visit, I mean Victor-at his leisure. ? Fattie w/big needle chasing her around room-ugh..stop!
2.Kelly chumming up to Austin & thinks her & Jack have future, poisoned herself IMO.
3. Hilary has a full-on meltdown & fled from her hubby, just to run & bang his son, AGAIN!
4. Sharon’s yelling at Mariah, far-fetched. Burning pics..sorry NOPE! She’s on her meds. Does anyone on that show know what bipolar is? She may get depressed & stop taking them, but you don’t skip 1 & go crazy. That would occur over months. I can’t! Worst s/l EVER.
5.Sage popping up at court? What? I know Gabe’s pushing but she seems to have crossed over-hide your bunnies Nick & Faith!
6. Nikki’s dropping babies cuz the booze-bag still chugging it down but nobody notices.
7. Christine’s hatred for Phyllis is out of control & she’ll lose their baby.
8. Gwen all in love w/Devon after 2 bangs.
I think Chloe will show up soon w/a baby in tow.

FORCED WRITING:
Sharon would never yell at Mariah, let alone let her move. Why can’t Mariah move in w/Nick? Mariah&Kevin living together ruins that sweet, new bond they have growing. FORCED.

Victoria wants Stitch to move in because, well, why? What? Makes no sense. She called him a murderer for a year. PLOT POINT

Chelsea is a hustler. She’d never, ever put up w/grandpa Billy’s sh*t. He never stops. What’s attractive about him? NOTHING! But he’s living there?

Michael’s cancer story on once a wk if even. Anyone learning or following his steps re: prostate cancer will be dead before Y&R even gets him to radiation, which I think he’s skipping. Seems out of character to me that he would just die from a curable cancer as long as his pecker’s hard.

Neil can see, but he will seek revenge. Now, how many people are being sneaky creeps?
Joe, Victor, I think Michael’s lying about radiation, Cane (lying to Lily), Colin, Devon, Hilary, now Neil, Nikki, Gabe, Sage, Kelly, Avery (going to see Joe)

Must have a man:
Jill, Nikki, SAGE, Phyllis, Sharon so she thinks, KELLY, Avery, Chelsea, Victoria, Hilary, Summer.

Disasters can be great but characters must stay the same. Only killing 1 person? #KillBill

I just want you to know your post made my day today I have been going thru a lot of personal tragedies and for the first time in weeks I actually laughed out loud. The comment about Michael’s cancer was priceless. Thank you I truly needed this today! 🙂

The reason the ratings are up on B&B the two blonde show hogs KKL & KM have been off for a while and for me watching the chemistry between TK & CG is smoldering. I do not care if their is 20 years difference the TV screen is on fire. Friday’s show I had to go take a cold shower! Lordy!

Excuse me LG not CG!

There is a reason for Great Ratings with women from 18 to 60ish
and it is THORSTEN KAYE!

I think the actress who plays Steffi is probably the prettiest lady on TV.
